Wonderful Japanese restaurant to come and enjoy delicious food. I went for the bento box and was not disappointed. Very, very delicious food and the box came with a soup and salad. I highly recommend.
Best tempura Ive had outside of Japan, great teriyaki chicken, and the fried squid was outstanding. Generous portion sizes on the dinner platter, I wish I had discovered this place earlier in my stay, I would have gone multiple times.
I go there weekly with a friend.Food is fantastic. Not much for sushi. Tried the rolls definitely a must try.
Got two rolls the other day. I asked for the Parker roll not to have avocado for my husband. He liked his roll. Mine was ok but I think they were confused and also took the avocado off of my roll. So it only had oysters and They are very small rolls. It was $29 total, which wouldn’t be bad if they were better quality rolls.

Beware of LUNCH.The food was WRONG, and the service was SERIOUSLY lacking.Walk-in To-Go order, was told that the meal would take about 10 minutes to prep. I watched the Bento Box come out within 5-8 minutes, and be set next to the sushi counter.I then watched 12 (total) people come in behind me and be seated.EVERY SINGLE TABLE got their sushi, and mine was still unprepared.This happened over the course of an additional 20 minutes.I asked the young man up front about it, and he went to speak with the sushi chef. I FINALLY saw the rolls prepped after about 30 min total.(Of course, by this time, the Teriyaki chicken in my Bento Box was TOTALLY cold.)When I arrived back at my office, I discovered the rolls in my order are not correct... One of the rolls, Im not even sure what it is.Instead of Teriyaki Chicken, I received Pork.The salad was rubbery, and the vegetables were cold and inedible.Overall, I paid $36 and received a lunch I was virtually unable to eat.In short, I got two visits for the price of one...My First... and My LAST.Eat here at your own risk.(Your mileage may vary...)
Have been dining here since the 1980s. Restaurant has gone through at least one ownership change that I am aware of without any changes in the quality of food, presentation and service. Think the busiest time of day is lunch service as the restaurant is located very close to Travis Air Force Base. We were there for dinner. Seated immediately. Service was excellent. Server was pleasant and attentive. Sushi excellent. The sushi chef has been there for as long as I can remember. Believe he is from Okinawa originally. Brought a friend of mines mother here for her birthday. She is from Japan and found the menu to be authentic. Cant say enough good things about this restaurant.
This is a nice place for some quick Japanese food. The lunch special is the way to go👍

The service was friendly and we did not have a long wait for drinks or food. I ordered the ten don which I am usually wary of because some places just put tempura on rice and dont know you are supposed to put a sauce on them. Ohkura made it right. The tempura could have been crisper, but there were very nice pieces of vegetable including onion which many places now mysteriously leave out of tempura. It was very tasty. I noticed at least 3 tables were occupied by Japanese patrons which is a good indication of Japanese food done well.
Everything was delicious. I can say I will be back.
This place has been my go to restaurant for japanese food for 20 years. They have never let me down. Excellent food that could easily cost more anywhere else. During your meal you should notice that there is always a fair number of Japanese eating. That alone tells me Im right on my assessment of the quality.
Our favorite Sushi restaurant. We never disappointed every time we go here. If you really love Sushi or Japanese cuisine this is the place to indulge to your appetite. The Sushi chef here is the original since they open. You are getting the real deal. Enjoy and disregard the previous review comparing their Sushi to Safeway.
Pretty much the same food every dish. Chopped up Chicken of some sort. Sushi color was to dark for me had The spicy tuna. The lighting was low maybe thats it. Soda was flat. Soup not hot. Salad only one kind of dressing which i dont know the flavor. I guess Im new but the fried tempura was not what i remember from another Japanese place, buy it was ok. The tempura sauce very watery. I like the thicker sauce but thats me. And more taste which this did not have.
The food here was great, the decor was authentic, and the service was good. However, the portion sizes were huge, and the bill reflected that. Not exactly a gripe, but it is interesting to note that that is the least authentic part. In Japan, the portions are smaller, and the food less expensive by reflection. Welcome to murica I guess. If ti ou dont mind bringing some home though, this is definitely a place to check out.

Surprisingly excellent sushi in Fairfield! The sushi is prepared will and with an attention to detail and aesthetics, as well as flavor. The hot food, such as teriyaki and tempura are well made too. Service is always fast and friendly. The only knock would be the decor, which is definitely below-par. But if youre in the neighborhood, its an unexpected treat for the Travis AFB area.
By far the worst sushi I have ever had. Just ate here ordered 4 rolls couldnt even get down an entire roll. My wife and I are disgusted. Better off eating sushi out a grocery store. $52 wasted.
I dont understand why this place has such good reviews. I ate here recently and had the worst sushi ever. Safeway sushi would rate better than the quality this place serves. Couldnt even finish dinner and walked out. Not fresh at all, DONT GO.
Ive been going to Okura with my family since it opened, and by Fairfield standards, I think the food is still one of my favorites.Each person in my family orders from the dinner specials each time. These specials are typically your choice of two items on the list, miso soup, and a salad topped with the chefs special miso dressing. While in college, my parents would bring me a container of this dressing. If you like it as much as I did growing up, theyll likely sell you a to go container of it.Well usually order the Monterey Roll, a rainbow roll, and maybe a Parker or other roll as a 3rd if were really hungry.I do not agree with the poster that said that Safeway sushi would be better. Okura is not the highest class of sushi restaurants ever, but its a local family owned restaurant that does a good job with general Japanese cuisine. The owner Michael, his wife, and the sushi chef have been there since day one and they know their regular customers well.
They accommodated us even though they were closing soon. The hours listed online may be out of date. I enjoyed the Orion beer, and fish plate. Staff was welcoming and pleasant. Id recommend it.
This is a small restaurant near my work that my wife picked one afternoon and Im glad she did, it was just what we need for lunch. Older restaurant but clean with great staff.

Do not order the shrimp tempera they literally only included one shrimp. It is way overpriced and the lunch plate was mostly just lettuce and random fried vegetables.

Good food, but always a wait even if you call ahead. I called when they opened they gave me 15 to 20 minutes, 30 minutes later. Sacrifice for the kids, lol.
Service was fast, they allways filled my drink before it ever got past half. The squid was cooked perfectly, the sushi was good and not to expensive, will go again.

2021-10-29 23:27:02Visiting the area for a couple of months and wanted to try a sushi place. Ohkura is located right outside of the main gate to the AFB. It doesn’t look like much from the road, but once you are inside you will find it is very clean, quiet, casual and the staff is polite and friendly. They sat us right away, brought our drinks, answered any questions about the menu and even made a couple of suggestions. The food is prepared fresh at the sushi bar and it not only looked amazing, it tasted delicious. The prices are typical of what you would expect at a casual sushi restaurant. The menu had plenty of options. We would definitely eat here again.

I truly enjoy how comfortable they made me feel whenever I dine in or ordered for take out. I love their bento boxes (shrimp tempura, gyoza, beef teriyaki, nigiri), gyudon, and their grilled squid!

2021-11-05 03:12:59Been coming to Ohkura for about 15 years. Always a great place for Japanese food. Today I got a tonkatsu donburi, I havent had a donburi in awhile. Fantastic, quick and yummy!

There is a large disparity between price and what you get here. I have to assume the good ratings come from those that havent ever been to another sushi restaurant.

2019-02-08 20:48:47It was really good. I had the Travis roll and Ohkura roll and they were both delicious, also very huge rolls. I also ordered the Seasame chicken but it didnt come with any sauce. It was still good but could have used something on it.
