I cant believe I have lived in Lafayette for over three years and just discovered this place. In summary one of the very best Japanese restaurants I have eaten in, as good as anything I have had in Japan.Went for lunch. Started the meal with hot saki and toro sushi; outstanding, even the ginger and wasabi served with the sushi was outstanding. My wife had the sushi sampler with salad, I had the grilled miso sea bass with miso soup and rice. Everything was beautifully cooked, presented and tasted fantastic. As an added bonus, the food was served on what looked like a Japanese version of Heath pottery, nice touch.The restaurant decor is bright and tasteful. Staff were very pleasant and helpful. Total cost for this amazing lunch was only $70, plus tip. Like Arnold said; I will be back!You may have noticed all my reviews to date on Google have been 5 star, this is deliberate. Life is too short to focus on that which does not make us happy. This is why I restrict my reviews to those things/places/services that make me happy and appreciate life. Sure, I have been to some really dreadful shops, hotels and restaurants etc., but, like I said, life is too short to spend time thinking and writing about them.

I really liked this place. I went there with friends for the first time few days ago and I must admit it was better than expected. The server was very friendly and attentive, the food was fresh and tasty. We only ordered rolls and the Dragon roll was my favorite. I highly recommend the place!

I came in to pick up a delivery. The food looks and smells so good. I was going to ask them for a to go menu so I could order dinner from here. The people were so rude to me, like In a classist way. They didnt care to answer my question, for a menu, so I could order food. Im sad to miss out on something delicious... but you should be nice to people. And you shouldnt pay money to mean people

First time here and everything was delicious. We ordered the beef teriyaki, lion king roll and fried calamari. To be honest the calamari was our least favorite. We truly enjoyed the beef teriyaki, the sauce is delicious and we will be back for more.

Unpretentious Japanese eatery, but very good quality from (so far) limited experience. Most of the staff appears to be Chinese. The tonkatsu was crisp and tender. Will patronize again.

One of my favorite places to go. Casual and boy a lot of take out. If you want to snuggle in for the evening and just have sushi by the fire this is a place to order. Otherwise you can go casual and sit at table or bar counter and enjoy delicious fresh and real crab meat. Sake beer and wine served only...

Good selection of sushi rolls. I refreshing yet light one is the Lafayette roll. Has no rice. Instead its made with thinly sliced cucumber. Wish I took a picture before I ate it. Plating of the sushi rolls was nice.

Randomly stopped on a Tuesday night before going to Trader Joe’s. About 1/2 full. Sat at the bar. Service was quick. Ordered sake and seaweed salad both came out quick. Ordered 3 rolls, also pretty quick. The spicy rolls were pretty spicy without using the wasabi. But really enjoyed the rolls. No issues and reasonable price.

Great sushi in a relaxed and laid-back environment with a very friendly vibe.The sushi is very good with my personal favorite being the California roll and crunchy as well as the salmon nigiri. Some other good ones are the Lafayette and lion king.

Delicious food, fantastic fresh fish, but I am sooooo sick of being nickel and dimed when I order from them. Their prices are also very high, but if you ask for cucumber in a roll to be added, boom $1, ask for any variation on anything... boom, another $2. It is just really annoying to pay such high prices and then get tiny extra charges every time.

Our first time and probably last time eating at this small corner restaurant. Cold service, they sat us at the worst seats in the house, pricey for mediocre Japanese food!I read some of the reviews before we went there and sorry to say that a lot of the negative things mentioned in the reviews seemed to be holding true.

After coming here very regularly for the last year, I have to say this is my favorite sushi place around. Weve gone to many in WC, PH, Lafayette etc, but this beats them all as far as quality of food, price, ambiance and service. Its bright, airy, spacious and super clean. It gets busy on a Fri/Sat night, so come early (before 6 and you can always get a table). Everything on the menu is great, but a Mt. Diablo Roll, Hamachi Sushi and a glass of Pinot Grigio is the definition of heaven to me. And they pour a very generous glass of wine!

My husband and I enjoy sushi dinner from Oyama every Monday as a way to feel a bit healthier after weekends of BBQs, parties and eating out. The sushi rolls are really nice; not too crazy with combinations and the sashimi pieces are very fresh. Definitely our favorite sushi spot in Lafayette.

Three feet across from me, the owner sat at the counter talking loudly on his cell phone the whole time I was dining . Two other staff behind the counter chatted loudly and continuously. And during my meal, right in front of my table, two other restaurant staff rolled out a cart piled high with the days garbage. The food was ok. But I will never return.

I thought this place would be my new favorite sushi spot and was super happy to find this place. However, with my second visit I was rather disappointed with the service. They discriminate against their own kind at Oyama, pretty sad. I guess I will not be going there anymore since I was treated like I was not welcomed. The sushi was not THAT wonderful where I can just go spend my money elsewhere and receive better treatment.

Always good sushi but my go to is the seafood udon. Consistently good. Not sure why it is never that busy, but my wife and I like this place for a local spot for sushi and udon.

Fair to middle. It was sushi nothing really special sushi nothing jumped out and made me say this place is fing awesome, the sashimi was cut thin and the prices were a bit high for the sushi portions but they did give us big rice balls.
