I really like these, the price seems reasonable enough and everything is always fresh. Its a to go only shop, so expect to take your food elsewhere to eat it. My only reservations is that the food flavour varies from day to day from what I noticed. Sometimes theres a lot of flavour and other times it is noticeable that the flavour is less then it was before. So due to the flavour profile consistency Id have to go with a 4/5. Staff is always nice though, could brand the inside more with the logo and make it more lively. But overall its a good little shop

It is a smal mom and pop shop. Good atmosphere, but small foot print. The prices are stellar, great value. They even have a frozen take home option as well as party box options. All and all a stellar place that is a throw back to easier times.

This very small restaurant offers good prices & decent food. Im not a big pasty fan but my wife wanted to try it. I preferred the beef vs the chicken. They have 3 or 4 outside tables & none inside, its pretty much just a get it & go type place. I wouldnt go out of my way to try it but it was near where my wife was working. Id go again mainly because its better than a burger & fries and their prices are on point

You have got to try their pasties. They are the worlds best, imho. I included Pasty Kitchen in Nice Places to Make Photographs, because this little walk-in restaurant has been in this location for many years, and the architecture is so incredible to photograph. It is truly photogenic. If you go there today, you will notice that they changed the sign. Just dont forget to order some pasties before you go on your way.

I chose the beef pastry and got a small side of beef gravy for lunch. I felt transported to Great Britain! A delicious comfort food.Just under $5 for the pastry and .75¢ more for the extra gravy. It reminds me of the British take of the pot pie with all fresh ingredients they also offer catering. A must try.

Inquired and found out the original ownership that ran nearly 60 yrs. is no longer. New owner bought about a year ago. Obviously, all too often when that occurs, things can take a severe downswing. Im happy to report, it appears the new owners intent is to not do stuff too radically different. Good Thing 👍

The new owner has really improved this long standing classic spot. The pastys have more meat in them AND they now have store made potatoe, macaroni and broccoli salads that are delicious. They have also added seasonal pastys. Im looking forward to the Thanksgiving version.

One of my all time favourite places! Have been going here since I was a child. I hear new management has taken over but it’s still as delightful as ever, and the prices are reasonable.Free parking is available in back, and while there’s no inside place to eat there are a few tables on a side patio.The pasties are served in two sizes, both filling. The small is plenty for me, but if you have a big appetite you can always opt for the large. You can choose between beef, chicken or vegetable. The beef and chicken pasties have a mixture of meat and veg inside. They are always ready, served hot (or buy frozen to take home) and are delicious. Remember to ask for ketchup as it makes a great accompaniment.Please go out of your way to make this a stop even if out of your way, as it’s well worth it!

The meat pies are perfectly cooked, out of the oven and in your hands extremely fast. Chicken or beef are the two options same is available for gravy and fresh made chocolate chip cookies. One sammy one was enough to fill me but I purchased 2 so the other was half eaten before I was totally stuffed. Only down I can say is they seem a little under spiced. But price is perfect and both staff folks were very polite and helpful.

Small place that sells, pretty much, only savory and sweet pasties. I recommend the beef pasty with chicken gravy. Its cash only so please come prepared. There is no seating inside, but there is a small area outside to enjoy them. And you can pick up some frozen pasties to stash at home.

My love affair with your place has come to an end due to your switch to a milk based shortening. They are a simple kitchen making simple food and very simple people who are professional in taking your order. The food is great for lunch and kids because they are handheld and easy to eat. I love their gravy, and love how they have other things other than their pastries. Every time I visit my doctor here in Los alamitos, this is the first place I go to for lunch after a long wait in the clinic. Ive been coming here before my kids were born about 10 years.

I went to the Pasty Kitchen, May 26 for lunch. Ordered 8 pasty pies. A couple to eat now and freeze the rest for later date. They were delicious and reminded me of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. They were Perfect and way better than all the burger joints. So you want try something a little different but great tasting. I have been going here for years. The pasties are unbelievable. I used to live around the northern great lakes, and these meat pies originated there many years ago when the coal miners would take these tasty meat pies down in the mines with them. This is a great little British Pasty spot. Honestly I don’t know of another anywhere nearby so we are fortunate to have it near!Pasty’s are very filling I always go with a small but I course most getting the large. They sell freshly cook or frozen the price is extremely reasonable!I don’t really recommend any of the other pastries they aren’t my taste. I’d say a little on the dry side.There is some street parking in the front and a very small amount of spots in the back. You might have better luck down the side street if it’s busy. There is very limited seating outdoors only so parking usually will free up fairly quickly.

Do not drive by! This is an iconic hole in the wall restaurant. It doesnt look like much from the outside, actually not a lot on the inside either, no eat in -just the kitchen and cash register. Order is filled while you wait, and then you go. The proof is in the food freshness, rich flavors, fresh ingredients and wrapped up in a fabulous pastry crust. You will be putting this on your list of musts when you come to the area, or if you live here it will be a weekly. Yum!

Go... I said, go. This mom & pop kind of place has been here, on Katella, for... forever! Different owners but always the same product since before the 70s, yes, I was around in the 70s. Pastry, hand held pie, beef or chicken with cubed potatoes and a little carrot (a good blend, not over bearing). A little salt & pepper for me, and ketchup, and you have a meal in your hand thats different from your typical burger or sandwich. Take some home for the family.

Just stopped in for two large beef pasties after meeting with my doctor one block away. By far the very best pasties outside of the UP or most upper Minnesota or Wisconsin pasty shops. Authentic crust and loaded with meat. What a meal… plus plenty of ketchup for some sweetness to balance the flavors. Excellent!!

I first tried pastys there in 1964 when I worked in Los Alamitos. There a tasty treat for lunch everyday. They were 50 cents or a dollar then when my pay was $1.65 per hour. The original owner was a great man and a pillar of the community. I also went to high school with his son. They have my full support. Just wished I could stop by today but we now live in Arizona.

I came on Thursday 2/24/22. I have gone here about 15 years. Today was different. The beef was very juicy and usually it’s a stout potatoe and meat pie. Todays was either better beef, with more flavor.. I’m not sure but a complete improvement! The 3 young men there in staff were polite and professional. Pasty kitchen is good but not great. I wish it could be a little better, but it is good for the price. The meat pasties are quite hearty. The dough for the pasties is good, genuine, simple, and not messy. But I feel like even with the gravy I want a little something more to amplify the flavor in their products. Pretty great. Reasonably priced. Nice flavour Great gravy. Full disclosure I am a Brit so am somewhat versued in the pasty arts. In the UK these things are everywhere. You can even buy them individually packaged In the grocery store. While this was really great the only critique I would give was the pastry itself was a little thin and somewhat undercooked. Now with that said I wouldnt call that a deal breaker for me I would absolutely come here again. With pasties, the filling (and the filling was absolutely spot on authentic) and the pastry are co- heroes. Again not slamming these guys by any stretch because I 100% enjoyed it. But unless these comments are made ? Hey!! the owners arent gonna know. I shall definitely return. Keep up the great work.

This place has been a favorite for me since high school! The meat pies and gravy are absolutely delicious- my favorite being the chicken pie with the chicken gravy- and there really is never a wait longer than a few minutes! I got two, large chicken pies: one large pie was satisfying, and pretty tasty, but a bit bland. Perhaps I was supposed to add seasoning to taste? I always see a line (small one but a line) on my way to pick up kids from school. So today was the day.. check this place out. Ordered beef, Chicken and apple turn over.. beef and chicken was yummy. Perfect for on the go hungry kids snack.. I think I will frequent this place for this purpose. Apple turn over.. was not my liking as I like my crust bit crunch and flaky but yummy nonetheless. Staff at the cash counter was energetic. They also except credit card with 3 % transactions fee but no limit on spending. Overall a great fun experience.

Ive been going to Pasty Kitchen for at least 15 years. Their new management is horrible.....no gravy so the guy first says 8 minutes to make more. I told him why did they bag my food then he then told me 15-20 minutes, obviously because I complained about bagging my food already. He was quick to offer me a refund instead of an apology.

When I went in, supplies were limited. No cookies, no cherry turn overs. Only 3 small beef pies. The cashier told me they only make so many cookies in a day and that basically you cant have one unless youre psychic and know when theyre made because they sell out so fast. Doesnt seem like theyre set up for success. Why would you ljmky the one thing that sells out?? The food was alright. Probably wont come back.

This place is the best! A true community staple. Prices are insanely reasonable. I take everyone here at some point. The beef and chicken are fantastic with the gravy! The veggie one -my favorite- doesnt need it in my opinion, because the beans keep everything moist (aka the easiest one handed meal outside a burrito). I come by every couple of weeks when I want that good for your soul kinda full feeling. What Im trying to say is come here at least once in your life. My mom always made homemade pasties for me on my birthday. She can no longer make them and I don’t have the patience or time to make them. Pasty Kitchen is a great place to get a pasty. It is not as good as mom’s, but is a very good meal at a very reasonable price and you get it quickly. The people that work there have always been very nice and professional when I have gone there. I also think they have some cookies...The meat ones are deliciously prepared with veggies (like potato, onion, carrot, peas, etc.), seasonings, and a stew-like sauce... Like a pot pie that you can hold! I swear it tastes like your grandma made it! If your grandma is a great cook, of course! :)The small is only $2 and change (I think it comes out to just a little over $3 with tax) and its NOT small. The food is great. Just not what it once was. Management and day to day operations have changed in the last couple months and i cannot say it was for the better. I have been coming here going on 2 decades now. Food has always been delicious filling full totally satisfying, and price was always reasonable. Dare i say... a great deal. Until now. I have lived in the area all my life and never went here until recently. Their prices were amazing and their pies are to die for! A small pie is enough for a small meal, I loved their beef pies and their gravy was an amazing compliment! Prices here are cheap, like $3 dollars for a small pie and $6 for a large pie. By the by, the large meat pies can be shared between 2 people, or one extremely hungry person. Dont make the mistake I made, this place is CASH ONLY!

Awesome little place! Watch them make fresh pasties, its really neat. Order a few, dont forget the gravy and a peach or apple hand pie for dessert! We had our first Cornish Pasty on a visit to the UK in early 1990s. They everywhere in the UK the way burger joints are here in the US. The pasties at Pasty Kitchen are the bomb. You wont go wrong! I don’t live in California anymore but when I visit I always try to get to Pasty Kitchen. It was here as a teen I tried my first pasty and I’ve been searching for them ever since. The ones I find are usually overpriced, fancy schmancy and don’t compare. They sell hot ones and frozen ones and I’ve purchased both (frozen to take home if I’m traveling). My go to order is a large beef with a side of gravy. Always get the gravy. I usually buy an apple pie too. These are great hand-held meat pies you can eat while driving or you can take them to the beach or wherever. I took a bag-full to my nephew’s and they loved them (especially his daughter!). I was there in March 2021 and I noticed the prices went up. They now take credit cards, previous to this trip, it was always cash only.With Covid restrictions, only one party can go in at a time to place the order. They are super-fast though, the hot ones are heated up and ready to go. It’s kind of fun to watch them make the pastys through the big window as you wait your turn to go inside.Also, the guys who are usually making the pastys were not there. Actually, one of them was there but he wasn’t making them, he was supervising. This makes me think the Pasty Kitchen sold and he is training the new owners. Entire supposition on my end based on my experiences over the years and what I saw.

This place is great! Its super cheap, and the food is delicious. I like to come for lunch, and then get an extra pasty and save it for dinner later. The beef one is my favorite, but chicken and veggie are also very tasty. I would definitely recommend you get one (or both) of the gravy flavors. I prefer the chicken but the beef is also great. I have never tried any of the sides, or the turnovers but I have heard from others that those are also really good :) something to remember is that they only take cash or check and there is no inside seating...also he careful because sometimes the inside of the pasty is really hot. I always burn myself because I am so excited to eat it that I dont like to wait for it to cool.

They also make great fruit turnovers and big chocolate chip cookies. The meat pies aren’t marked, so if you are keeping them frozen for future meals you will have a difficult time figuring out what is veggie, or beef or chicken. Plus, and this is the big thing, they only have 3 kinds of pasties, which are really pretty similar (beef, chicken or neither), whereas I recall going to a pasty shop and seeing at least a dozen varieties on display. At least theyre pretty cheap. And yes, also about as quick to pick up as regular fast food. They were popular in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan Cornish immigrants who came here a 100 years ago to work the midwest iron ore mines; they`d cook them in the morning, wrap them in towels and have a hot meal at lunch in the frozen winters. If you like English pies you have to try this place,my favorite is the beef pie but the chicken pie is good also.Kudos to the staff by because i was 30 cents shy on my order and she took it out of their tip jar to pay the difference what other business would do that?None that i know of.Ill remember to tip them well next time i go there.Thank you I didnt want to have to share my pie with you doing that i was able to buy 2 pies🤗

After a rousing session on the bog, I was hungry for some savory pies. Empanadas? Been there, done that. Samosas? Uh, no. Siopao? No, Ill pass. British pasties? Yeah, why not? I rang a bird, picked her up in my Union Jack mini cooper at her flat & we motored on down to The Pasty Kitchen for some brilliant pasties. Thats no hairy dog bollocks, either!A small little shop, I already had in mind ordering 1 small beef pasty, 1 small chicken pasty & a side of chicken gravy.Hearty, hearty, hearty. Did I say hearty? If these were small, Id hate to tackle large. With a heaping helping of potatoes & carrots (What? No peas?) to go along with meat, the pasties were cheap & filling. Of the two, I preferred the chicken over the beef. The beef pasty consisted of seasoned ground beef, whereas the chicken was made up of thick chunks of white meat. The dough wasnt flaky, as say a croissant, because it needs to hold up to all the ingredients. I must vehemently say - pay for the side of gravy! Its totally worth it! Otherwise, methinks the pasties may be a tad bit dry without it. My palate has always preferred chicken/turkey gravy over beef, as chicken/turkey is generally lighter, creamier & less salty. Whether you smother or dip, its all good. Everything is better with sauce. I dont go a day w/o slathering Awesome sauce all over me ;p BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAThe Pasty Kitchen also offers vegetable & fruit pasties. For those on the go, frozen pasties are available & buy four, get one free!Service was good. The lady obliged me when I wanted to take pics of the pasties I just bought. No indoor seating, but there are 3 picnic tables including umbrellas to dine at.Parking by way of street in the front & a shared private lot in the rear.The Pasty Kitchen, I am aghast at how cheap & filling your pasties are! As I dug into each bite, I envisioned myself as a filthy British chimney sweeper during tea time, savoring a proper meat pasty and recalling the jolly good time at the pub last fortnight. Without nannies flying around on an umbrella, of course ;p Inexpensive, satisfying & stick to your ribs good, The Pasty Kitchen is a great place to go when youre looking for a snack or a meal.Ready! I noticed the Pasty Kitchen while visiting los alamitos today and thought I would give it a try instead of the regular chain food places I can get near home. Too bad I did that. Chicken pasty is suuuuper dry and one bite of cole slaw had me saying my meal was finished. Cheap price and quick service is what makes this experiment not regrettable.

I lived in Cypress near this place for almost 20 years never going there once I did, I was hooked, WOW they are great, grab yourself a desert as well to top it off great for lunch no waiting fast service but if you plan on going back to work maybe better stick with the small meat pie they are very filling and delicious
