Great coffee shop that honors US Vetrans and the armed forces.Ive been here a number of times and have always left with a smile and a satisfied tummy. They serve breakfast all day but closes after a late lunch hour.

I absolutely love this place small place, But let me say when we entered we were greeted and seated by a gentleman. Our waitress Stephanie introduced herself with amazing energy and a beautiful smile 😊 the food is so good, made from scratch thanks for the great home like comfortable visit. We will be back on our next Vacation. Also Military friendly lots of neat military history decor.

Tried the pastrami. It was OK but kinda skinny in the meat department along with the fries it was OK. The constant asking by our server to enter a drawing which really transfers to a veteran donation of sorts was a little excessive, literally every 5 minutes until my buddy I met for lunch gave up 10 bucks then she kept asking afterwards anyways like dont you remember we just gave/donated 10 bucks?? The place was in diners and dives show, to me it didnt live up to the hype.

What a break gems in town of fountain valley. Biscuits and gravy is a bomb 💣. Waffle combo is very good. So full after finish. Salisbury very good after breakfast now ready go to take a nap.Staffs so friendly and funny 😁. Atmosphere very interesting. I love the military team here so cute. You can see in the pictures I share. Small cafe that is military themed. There are many memorabilia all around the walls and tables. I loved it! My in laws took me here for breakfast and service and food was wonderful! I ordered their Perdu with bacon and sausages. Their sausages were very delicious. The French toast was amazing. Never had an empty glass. We were checked in on often. My in laws have been going here for some time and the servers immediately recognized them. Definitely a great place where they pay attention to you! Will come back and recommend!

Great all American diner with the best waitresses. Tons of food, but I think it’s old military recipes. My chicken fried steak took up the entire 12” round plate. But the brown gravy didn’t do the meat justice. If you want great service and a large hot meal that tastes average you have to go here. All the Marine stuff will make you feel proud of America.

A small cafe catering to military veterans - especially Marines. The area around the kitchen & cashiers station looks like a ships bulkhead and the place is filled with Marine & Navy memorabilia.The feature menu item is SOS served on a stainless steel mess tray. The SOS is tasty but not nearly as meat-heavy as USMC SOS, which is a meat-filled hamburger gravy. This retired Marine was disappointed with the limited amount of meat in the SOS. :(The place is open every day, for breakfast & lunch.

Ive always loved this place and want to support their business but the last few visits the food has really slipped. I stopped for breakfast today and the eggs were really bad. They had to be dehydrated/reconstituted or at least a perfect duplication. How do you screw up scrambled eggs? You guys cant do that. Im sorry, I cant go back.

Average food. The country fried steak is famous because its huge and 1 foot long, but that doesnt mean its good. Its too thick. Either they should pound it thinner, or they should pick a thinner cut to begin with. Maybe the country fried chicken is better, Ill have to try it next time. The gravy is great.

Support local! Pauls has been near my cousin since she was a kid and theyve only recently started to visit. Hearty portion sizes, great coffee, and amazingly delicious food! My wife and I shared the chicken fried chicken and it was of the charts good! The country potatoes were outstanding. Pauls has an incredible military support theme that I really appreciated. We will be back at least once a visit!

Be careful or youll drive right past this gem. You walk into a retro dreamland, a true diner with all the sights, sounds and smells of days past. The food is incredible, with huge portions bursting with flavor. The service is top notch and the prices are quite reasonable. The military theme is tastefully presented and conveys the honor of our troops. Now that I have discovered Pauls, I will make it a point to go there every time I visit SoCal.

One of a kind place...lots of cool memorabilia to check out. We love how friendly everyone is here, both the staff making you feel like youre at Mamas house, and the fellow diners. Especially enjoy the old-timers, most likely revered vets, treating themselves to a good meal is nice to see. Weve been coming here with our best friend, an Army veteran, every time he comes to visit from NJ and will keep coming here for years to come. Try the ham steak, tacos, pancakes and skillets are awesome!

Been here a few years back. Awesome breakfast and lunch only with a hugely inspired Military theme. Veterans and current Military personnel will greatly appreciate the decor and menu. Today I had the Korean Beef and Rice breakfast with scrambled eggs. They only have this special item available on Wednesdays. So get in early on Wednesday to be certain to get it for breakfast. Mom had the breakfast tacos and my wife had the Vegetable Omelette. Coffee cups are big and the coffee is tasty.

First off the restaurant was super hot. Then when we got our food we got items we didn’t order and got charged for extra sides that our server said come with the meal. The sausage patty was dry and tasted like a hamburger and the hash browns were mushy. Then when we tried to explain these extra charges that we weren’t aware of they argued with us and told us it’s not there fault. I don’t not recommend this restaurant to anyone.

They are friendly, interactive, and we havent experienced anything wrong with our orders!... weve been coming here for about a year now, and all the waitresses are great! The food is good and you get plenty of it... the theme is of Military service, so theres pictures and items of the many women and men thats have served our country. Weve only come here at breakfast, but its tasty. The place is pretty small, but they make due with what little room they have. Support their business if youre in the neighborhood!

The military themed decor put up by the previous owner is a nice touch but doesnt make up for the horrible breakfast I was served. The bacon was obviously fried hours before my arrival as it had the texture of shoe leather. Hash browns had pieces of canned Ortega chilies mixed in but it didnt help as the potatoes were unseasoned and tasteless. Farmer Brothers coffee is what they serve here which tastes like hot water with brown crayon. This place has seen better days.

Tried this place today and it was really really good. The portions were huge. My boyfriend got the chicken fried steak and I’m pretty sure it will last him 3 meals, it was bigger than his head! I had the corn beef hash, biscuit and gravy and the home fries. The home fries needed some salt and pepper but were good! The biscuit was good and very fluffy. The staff was amazing! We came in at about 1:15 and they close at two. I felt super bad but they made us feel super comfortable and we’re all really reassuring that it was ok. The vibe of the place was very homey and had a ton of cool stuff.

A hole in the wall gem! Hosting and servers are on top of it, food is delicious, and if you have a love for the military you will appreciate the decor inspired by all the branches. The food here is so good! Its hearty homestyle cooking. We come here often. The only reason I would give it 4 instead of 5 is that the service is not great. If the servers know you, they are so welcoming. But to my father (hes hard of hearing) and I, they were pretty rude. Our server was so annoyed with us because she had to repeat herself to him. Hes the veteran and he doesnt really want to come back now. :/

Extremely disappointed that a very small plate of iceberg see through non green lettuce dotted with sprinkles of bacon and cheese was all that was on the plate . Very small portion for almost $6. The cafe was excellent. The service was perfect. I took the family there for breakfast. We live 1 1/2 half hours away, and was our first time to be there. We all got something different, and enjoyed every bit of it. The only problem we had were the patrons. While we were waiting outside I would say good morning to people as they passed by. I got looks of shock, and people acting like they were going out of there way to say anything back. We will go back to the restaurant. I hope people from Fountain Valley get friendlier.

We were very disappointed in both entrees ordered. I had the pot roast /spinach omelette with hash browns. We both had the biscuits with gravy and my daughter ordered the chicken fried steak. My omelette was flat (not fluffy) and tasteless and the hash brown were limp, tired (not crispy) and also lacked flavor. The country/milk gravy was awful! The predominant taste was an odd, overpowering sweetness, making it almost inedible! This was particularly distasteful on my daughters country fried steak, on which you would expect, a savory gravy, traditionally with the taste of sausage or bacon.The woman at the cash register, overheard us perplexedly discussing the gravy, and she replied, We think its the milk. Her comment would seem to indicate others shared the same feelings as us.Since it was on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives were wondering if they are under new ownership?Needless to say, we wont be returning!

I ordered the chicken fried steak breakfast. The good news is that it covers the plate and is way more than you can eat. The bad news is that its sooooo tough, youll be chewing each piece for a day. I tried to use my fork to cut a piece, using all my strength. Im a big guy. The meat wouldnt budge. I guess you can say this place is just your average greasy spoon, but there are so many greasy spoons that are better than this place. Just go somewhere else. Im really surprised its as busy as it is. Maybe the other dishes are better, but dont order the chicken fried steak.

We like it scrambled too. Pauls was on diner drive in and drives. The place is a dive with great food and people. You should also get the chicken burger for lunch. They have the large steak fries. Probably the worst customer service experience I have had at a restaurant in a very long time. The waitress came by to give me water, and then I sat for 15 minutes waiting for her to come by and get my order. In the mean time, the woman at the front and the waitress managed to spend 5 minutes chatting with customers whom they clearly knew, and also spent 5 minutes figuring out the order of a customer who had gotten there long after I had. I left after 15 minutes of waiting. I have no idea if the food is any good, but the customer service is enough to put anybody off their lunch.Perhaps I will return when these people figure out how to treat customers.

Havent eaten here. But Ive been looking for an SOS recipe for many years. Was always told it couldnt be made at home. Not unless it was made in a 50 gallon stewing pot. And that the flavor just couldnt be replicated on a stove top... Well Paul has proven that to be totally untrue. His recipe given on Triple D is not only fast and easy. But delicious!!! And if I can make it this good at home? I can only imagine how delicious Pauls must be... Im just very grateful that he gave out this recipe freely. Ive made it several times. And it never disappoints. Thank you Paul. :-)

Went to Pauls for breakfast this morning and it was a great blast from the past. My family and I used to go there quite a bit and then we moved away so it was nice to get an awesome meal.I had the waffle combo and my son had the chicken fried steak (see the pic its huge)The restaurant has done a ton for covid-19 including temp checks on entry, outdoor dining, plexiglass at the register, and requiring masks and social distancing.

This place is one of the rare gems that are going away in HB FV. Places like these are being replaced by big chain, printer food restaurants. Paul’s is so beyond cool even the hipsters can’t find it. The food is real, and the ambience is as serious as a heart attack. I love this restaurant.

A little expensive for what you get there. . . but you do get big helpings of food. Everyone knows everyone at this place and the wait for breakfast on weekends used to be 15 mins or more, now not much at all on weekends and no wait on weekdays. Hamburger is not so good. bun to meat ratio is inappropriate - too much bun. . . and the bun is not as good as some . . . like BunzBurger in H.B. on Center which uses Brioche bun.

Food is good but for such ordinary fare its overpriced. Cheap foods like eggs, potatoes, breads, and especially coffee cost way too much in restaurants. Drinks are way too much money. Back off maybe 50% and maybe youd get more traffic.
