The food is authentic, delicious southern Chinese food; you would expect the place being more like a traditional Chinese restaurant with big round table with lady susan in the middle; that’s not what this place is. The back garden of the restaurant facing a small creek, even in the hot summer afternoon, you can feel the cool breeze coming from the creek; big TV screen reminds you of a nice beer garden. Highly recommended for family meal or friends gathering.

The food was ok, but the wait was long, and waiters were always busy, no time to help you. The lion head clay pot was on a glass plate, not in a clay pot. The fish was pretty good but on the menu it was $24.95 but when I got the receipt it was $29.99!

We went in for lunch & ordered Pork & Crab dumplings, Cumin Lamb, A choy, Egg fried rice & Sweet & Sour pork. Cumin lamb was beyond delicious.. ditto for other dishes & wow, service here was outstanding as well as happy wallet. Just 10 minutes walk from Apple Store.Highly recommended 👍🏼

Initial impression was horrible placing the to go order, went in on a Sunday even, not busy only one person placing an order before me. I had to find a menu myself on the bar inside the dining area. When I was ready to place the order, the woman Did not listen to me, added stuff that I was not even remotely saying. She was acting confused and frustrated, short, and irritated that I was even placing the order. As she repeated the order, she was mumbling and not talking to me looking off to the side, at an inaudible volume. While I was waiting, she abruptly asked which order was mine, then she said, oh the big one, she just handed off the only other take out order waiting.Only as I was leaving with the food did she pause being rude, she was saying thank you like she appreciated my patronage. Maybe because I tip even for to go orders and bad service?When I got home, the general consensus was that the food was dry without any flavor, it was just various textures in your mouth.

My sister had recommended this restaurant while we were shopping downtown Walnut Creek. We came for lunch on MLK day. Was able to find parking in their parking lot. Waited a few minutes to be seated. You can either from their lunch specials menu or order family style during lunch time. Lunch special was a good deal... $9.95 for a soup, salad, rice, egg roll and a main dish. I ordered the Kung Pao Trio with brown rice.... it had chicken, beef and shrimp! My meal was a pretty good size portion. It did however only come with 2 pieces of shrimp lol. It was very flavorful and had a kick to it..... enough to make my nose run. It was good though.We ordered 3 Thai iced teas but they said they only had one.... which I found odd. Why only one?!?!? So ended up not getting it at all.The service was fast. The waiter was nice and friendly. It was hard to understand the waitress though.

Many years ago, we used to work in the area and Peonys was one of our favorite places to eat. We had our holiday parties here and work luncheons catered by them.When we found out that our kids will be having a soccer game in WC, we immediately thought of Peonys!Weve forgotten how delicious the food is here! The BBQ pork chow mein was simple but had so much flavor. The fried szechuan chicken was spicy but not overly powering where you cant taste the flavor. Also, the kung pao prawns had a good ratio of prawns vs crunchy vegetables.It wasnt too busy, we arrived around noon on a Sunday. The large dining area was being used and 3 of the booths had customers. The table service was quick and attentive.

I had a disappointing take out today from Peony Gardens. I got gung pao prawns and the dish was over cooked. The veggies were terrible, over cooked and looked wilted. It was really disappointing. In the past their food has always been good. It felt like a total waste of money. I even dumped half of it.

Best Chinese cuisine in Contra Costa County. Has a wonderful patio next to the Creek---which makes it a great destination for lunch. I like to eat here when I shop at Nordstom. Not a big room with no windows like most Chinese restaurants. Great service. Do not confuse this restaurant with the Red Door, which was not very good. The food here is great and much more authentic.

Peony Garden is the hidden gem of Walnut Creek. The atmosphere is relaxed, welcoming and serene; the decor is tasteful. The owner is personable and makes himself available; the servers are attentive. And the food is the best weve had in the 12 years weve lived in Walnut Creek. Give it a try. I think youll find it delightful, and when you leave youll already be planning your next visit!

I love the food here. The staff are really nice, and you should be seated quickly. Their dumplings are great dipped in their chili sauce.I love how you can see into the kitchen and watch them make the food and you can definitely tell that this is a family run establishment. Had the orange flavored chicken lunch special. Great value for the money. Fresh ingredients and you can tell it was cooked to order. Generous portion size of chicken, a boat-load of rice, hot and sour soup and an egg roll. Really couldnt ask for more! Also, I ordered to go and everything came in a perfectly secured and cinched up package, ensuring there were no spills on the way home. Thats huge in my book. Staff was friendly but, as I ordered to go, I cant speak for the table service. Will definitely make this a regular stop and I highly recommend if youre in the area.

Ive been here several times now and have been left happy every time. Their chef specials are the draw. They are delicious, creative and presented beautifully. Their appetizers are also very good. I recommend the Peking duck . The other dishes are okay. I feel like I can get the cheaper and better elsewhere. However, their lunch special are a great deal. The restaurant is spacious and nicely decorated. I highly recommend it.

Wonderful ambience. Delicious food each dish has it own unique flavor. good service. Recommend for lunch or dinner. Great ambiance and good location with easy parking (hard to come by in WC). I found the food well presented as well as in great proportions. I had the Walnut Prawns and the Ginger Chicken. I found both items to be excellent. The Walnut Prawns were not as sweet as at many Chinese restaurants, which I liked. The food in general is of great quality and flavor. The staff wer great and prompt as well.

Wow this is an amazing place I sat outside really nice outdoor seating area. They have huge quantities of food. And its quite tasty and I like the fact that its low salt and no MSG. Tried it for the first time for lunch. Glad I did. The service staff was beyond attentive, they were super friendly and did an excellent job. I thought the lunch special was pretty reasonably priced. There was also a LOT of food for that price too. It was also DELICIOUS. I definitely recommend it and I WILL be coming back!

Thank you for remaining open for takeout during this crazy time! My coworkers and I work across the street at Kaiser hospital and ordered lunch both days this past weekend. They took our credit card number over the phone so that we could just pick up and go. The food is delicious, and the lunch special with soup and vegetarian egg roll is very reasonably priced. Order the Hong Kong Style Crispy Noodles- you won’t be disappointed!

DONT GO. THIS PLACE IS DISHONEST AND DISCRIMINATING.We went there for lunch on Saturday between 11am and 3pm. Their web site clearly stated that they serve the luncheon specials lunch every day from 11am to 3pm. We were initially only offered the regular items menu. We then specifically asked for the luncheon specials menu, but the waiter said that its not available Saturday and Sunday. THATS DISHONEST!Okay, we choose to not argue with him (for food safety reasons) and go on and order from the regular menu. By the time we were about to finish our lunch, I saw another non-Asian customer, at the table in front of us, was offered the luncheon specials menu!!! He ordered an item from it, by which the same waiter gladly taken!!! Obviously, they do not (want to) offer the luncheon specials menu to Asian customers (both I and my wife are Asian Americans). THATS RACIAL PROFILING AND RACIAL DISCRIMINATING! We are also considering filing a discrimination complaint with the State Government.We live locally and thought we have found one good Chinese restaurant nearby. No, not anymore, will never go back again. I dont care how good the food is, a dishonest and discriminating restaurant will never earn my business. Yes, they made several more dollars from us this time, but thats at the expense of much much more potential future business they are losing. They thought we were stupid, not knowing that the only ones who are stupid are them. HA HA HA!

Some of the worst service Ive ever had.Ive been here twice. Once many years ago and once a few nights ago.My first experience there, I was with a large group (approx. 20 people). We had ordered ahead of time, but our friend forgot to order for two of us. We didnt discover this until we arrived. Still, we quickly chose our dishes and sat with the rest of our group. Everyone elses dishes began to come out (after a reasonable 15 minute wait), and we sat there, knowing that ours might be a little delayed because we hadnt ordered ahead of time. That was fine. After everyone else had been served and about 15 minutes had gone by, we got up and asked when our food might be ready, because we were the only ones in our group still not served, and dinner was approaching being half-way done. They said it would be out shortly. We sat back down. Another 15 minutes went by and our dinners did not show up. By this time, everyone was done eating and sitting around talking. We again asked when our food would be ready and again they said it would be out soon. Skip 30 minutes ahead (at least a full hour since the last other member of our party was served), and they finally bring out our dishes. By now, everyone is getting up and getting ready to go to the next thing, were starving, and only a handful of our friends are sticking with us as we quickly wolf down our meal. They made no effort to get us our meal even remotely near when everyone else in our party was eating, then lied to us when we asked when our food would be ready. I realize they might have been understaffed for such a large group, and not getting our orders in ahead of time may have made logistical difficulties, but our dishes should not have taken more than 15 minutes longer than the rest of the group, max. There were 20 of us, and they were able to make 18 dishes in order, but apparently not the last two.When I was there again the other night, the service was dreadfully lacking. After asking the waiter if the iced tea had refills (and he said yes), yet none of our iced teas were ever refilled. None of our waters were ever refilled, until near the end of dinner, we finally asked (they had been empty for 15 minutes or so). When they finally delivered us our check, I put my credit card inside it, set it on the edge of the table, and it sat there for another 15 minutes before someone could find the time to pick it up. We started making bets about when they would finally deign to take our money. We were having a good time, and werent in any hurry, but it would have been nice to sign the bill and put my card back in my wallet. Overall, service was pretty abysmal. The one redeeming factor was that they checked my id against my credit card, which I am appreciative of. I took them from a 10% tip up to a 15% tip just for that.Also, the Pad Thai is absolutely terrible, and Pad Thai is a safe bet almost anywhere.If 0 stars was the lowest rating I could give, I would give them 1 star, for decent food and for checking my ID. As 1 stars is the lowest I can give, Ill bump them up to 2 stars, but I feel like with my experiences, theyre quite lucky I give them that.

I love to give good reviews. I cant this time. The sad lobsters piled in an aquarium should have been a sign. Appetizers: Pork buns tasted fine but didnt like the mystery meat. I bit into something solid and may be headed to the dentist. Potstickers tasted as though I bought them at the supermarket. Chicken salad was just unremarkable fried chicken on some lettuce. Pork ribs were ok.The wife liked her duck.Dragans Pond is at least a little better.

If you enjoy siu loong bao and dont want to travel to Din Tai Fung, try Peony Garden restaurant. We came here on a whim and were pleasantly surprised. Also, honey walnut prawns are done right. Crispy shrimp slightly sweet with just the right amount of mayonnaise and roasted walnuts. Peking duck was not crispy as expected but they included the duck meat which was moist and flavourful. Buns were steamed in bamboo serving container but were somewhat stuck too container. They must have forgotten to use the thin paper on the bottom so steamed items dont stick.Food is a little on the expensive side but nothing a person afforded the opportunity to live in Walnut Creek couldnt afford. in all a pleasant experience.

Went here with my team for a work lunch last week - its called chinese food for a reason. I highly suggest doing the family style food with a few entrees. And dont forget the hot and sour soup, its amazing. The staff was extremely attentive to our table - i.e. no glass sat empty, no dish left on the table. Dont eat here or try to order food online. They almost killed me and my family. After eating their food, the next day we are in and out in the bathroom. My husband went to the hospital for dehydration and diarrhea, we had a salmonella poisoning from this restaurant. My two kids are having diarrhea and stomach ache, I have diarrhea as well and vomiting. My husband called them a told them what happened to us they dont care, they didnt even try to ask if we are ok, very adamant that their food is clean and no food poisoning. Were calling alameda health department and report them for salmonella poisoning. Save yourself a trip from hospital.

This was, by far, some of the worst Chinese food Ive had in a very long time. Ordered delivery. My order included pork pot stickers, general tsos and teriyaki chicken. No rice was included with the meals. The general tsos chicken had a weird sauce that was not authentic and tasted off. The teriyaki chicken had little flavor. Both dishes included rubbery chicken that seemed to have been frozen and then cooked. The pot stickers were the only decent thing and why there is at least one star. It was so bad, that we threw out the food and ate leftovers we had in the fridge. Save your money and go somewhere else.
