Pepes Tacos in Azusa

If you are making your way up (or down) the Canyon on Hwy 39, come to Pepes tacos, a great Mexican neighborhood restaurant in my beautiful City of Azusa. Ive been coming here for years. My family and I like the tacos, burritos, and the delicious Mole enchiladas. The tacos are packed with flavor, the burritos are filled with fresh ingredients, and the mole plate is very authentic! The restaurant has great service and a welcoming atmosphere. I highly recommend checking it out if youre looking for some fast on the go delicious Mexican food.

Pepes Tacos-2.6.2023 @5pm El Lunes - Two adults and two children ordered chicken n cheese quesadilla ($9.49); shrimp plater (rice, beans, salad, and 3 tortillas ($16.72)); one fish taco ($2.38); small guacamole (.36¢?). We spent $28+. This is not a typical restaurant in that you wont get silverware, drinks, waitress service if you dont ask. Ill just say that service was rather different/ complicated.We did receive chips and Verde salsa when we sat down. I love chips and salsa, but these did not have any flavor. No one finished the quesadillas as they were also tasteless. The shrimp were overcooked and tough. The salad was fresh as were the flour tortillas. I cant say I enjoyed any of this food enough to eat here again, even if for free: thanks, but no thanks.

If I could give this place 0 stars I truly would. Customer service is awful they watched me stand at the counter while they chatted and my order didn’t get taken until minutes later. The food is a safety hazard they are serving old rubbery pollo meat with tendons, and the rice was unbelievably hard as if it had been sitting and scraped from the bottom of the pan, I couldn’t even bite through it. I went back to receive a refund for my order and was given a hard time the manager continuously stated “it is what it is” and that she couldn’t afford to give me a refund. I am traumatized by my experience and will not be returning here.

The food was delicious! Get a burrito. The taco plates are expensive and contain very small portions, you’ll be hungry afterwards. Seriously? They even skimped on the rice and beans! Burritos were generous portions.

Unfortunately, this is all thats left of my wet burrito at the time of me doing this review, it was just that great. I highly recommend to stop as the customer service was wonderful. Just a little note they have a public restroom that you get to walk through the kitchen to go use. they do not have liquor or beer, but theres a liquor Mart next-door to it. Just go.

Always suspicious about a smaller restaurant with a vast menu, but we were craving a few different things and they had almost everything we wanted so we gave it a shot. Overall, pretty good and it all hit the spot. Free chips, even in to go orders which was cool.Menudo - 4 stars. good flavor but more soup than meat. Light on the hominy, which is how I like it too. May be my fault for ordering menudo in a weekday, but it was cold out and it sounded good. Will try again sometime and see if ratios improve.Tostada - 4 stars. was soggy by the time we got it home. Too soggy. We should have asked for it separately meat on the other hand was amazing.Tacos - 4 stars. Meats ranged from avg to good. Nothing really stood out as amazing but would say asada and carnitas were best. Shrimp and fish were good but a little light meat. Buche and lengua were ok. The hard shell taco was the stand out in this group and you can try with any meat. The barbacoa would be amazing in this.Salsa - 4.5 stars. both green and red were really good. Great flavors in the green and red had a kick without compromising taste.

I ordered a couple of asada burritos and my wife loved it. I didnt put any salsa because I want to taste the meat, beans and the rice. Its worth it

I stopped by this place when I was passing through Azusa, and I was more than delighted by the quality of their food. The tacos were delicious and tasted authentic. It seems like the place is family-run which is nice to see these days. Loved it and will be returning on my next visit.

If you missed taco Tuesday, come to Pepes Tacos on Wednesday for $.99 fish tacos! They are fresh and tasty with a zesty cole slaw to top then off. They also come with your choice of either green or red chili sauce or both. You can order by phone for pick up as well which is great too!
