Many years ago I had lived in San Diego (SD), Ive visited the Mira Mesa location when it had just opened. I was there again on a vacation visit just a few days ago driving down from my current home up here in the San Francisco bay area (Fremont). Duke, the owner is sincerely phenomenal. The food is consistently amazing! On each visit I make it a point to drop by and say hello to Duke... and have another seafood phở soup!!Im moving off now to Europe in three weeks time, when I return back to the United States on a visit, I will be sure to revisit yet once again!Duke, (and Kenneth the server [shown in photo]) Thank you :-)

Ive been to a few Pho Ca Dao locations since the National City location is my vietnamese FILs favourite restaurant. This one has a bit more modern feel with a smaller, approachable menu and some other options like several appetizers and banh mi. The service was a little slow but good, and we really enjoyed the food. The vietnamese coffee is great and is served cafe style. While I prefer the City Heights location, I really liked this experience. Their che ba mau is especially good.Definitely a good choice if you want a more relaxed, laid back meal too

Came here strictly to see Wall-E and Eve (the robots) the food was so good! Service was wonderful, or wait staff was attentive. Every dish we ordered was amazing. I can’t wait to go back next time we’re in town.

This place pre-pandemic used to be wonderful: quick service, delicious food, great prices. Now, the cost has doubled per plate. A rice vermicelli bowl is over $15. We waited over half an hour to receive the wrong order twice. When we said it was wrong the second time, they said it was the same price anyway, so sorry just eat the beef instead of the shrimp you ordered. The grilled pork and beef were very dry and salty, not at all what I remember as juicy and delicious from 3 years ago. The tofu, grilled chicken, and pork chop were all fine. But two out of five orders were wrong, not good, and not corrected.

Food is awesome especially its getting cooler now. Staff have big hearts here. They helped my goddaughter from a freak accident near the place,they called 911 ASAP and they made sure that she was safe when the paramedics took her to the hospital.We cant thank them enough for the fast-action they did kudos to all the staff and management of this restaurant.

We love this place! We went to Pho Ca Dao at Mission Valley before. The decorations in Mission Valley is newer and more modern, we also love they have a full bar there. But this one only serves beer. It’s fine because the foods here are as delicious as the one in Mission Valley, we ordered a shrimp spring roll, a vermicelli salad bowl, and an oxtail pho soup. We enjoyed all the food. If you haven’t tried this place, you have to. I think they are one of my favorite Vietnamese restaurants in SD. Plus their service is nice, they have a cute robot server!

Being a first time visitor this is a great place to eat. The food made fresh. Nothing cold here unless you order a drink. The soups are incredible, flavorful and delicious. They have Large and Regular. Large if you have a appetite. Regular will be pretty filling as well. Clean bathrooms. Family friendly. Staff and management team seems to be very nice. Would have liked to have seen the manager before I left just to compliment him about the food. The veggie rolls are amazing. Served hot. Great sauce. Would love to go back and try out something else.

Good place.Stopped by for the first time for lunch and everything was good for me. Had the rare steak phô, the chicken banh mi, and the beef vermicelli. Both were good. I’ve had better phô and the banh mi was tastier. My girl had some other stuff and she said it wasn’t good. I tasted her stuff and it wasn’t bad. It’s what is normally expected of the taste. Maybe it’s cuz she set her expectations too high or she’s too spoiled. But her items were fine. Service was good.

Use to love this place and came at least once a week for lunch. I have not been to this place for a long time. Decided to go for lunch. The quality has dropped so much. I ordered pho Bo Kho. The soup was warm but the meat was cold (refrigerator cold) when I bit into it…horrible quality. They took it back and microwaved it…but then the noodle is soggy…just destroyed the entire lunch experienced…they really need to improve…

To start off me and my boyfriend went to the pho ca dao in Chula Vista and it was amazing! We loved it so much so we decided to come to this location in Mira Mesa…. The menu in Mira Mesa is different which is disappointing because we loved the crispy tofu in Chula Vista. the service here was very disappointing. We got our food suspiciously fast almost 5 minutes after our order was put in. The broth lacked so much flavor seemed to be very watered down and soulless. It seemed like they were doing repairs in the dining room. We asked for extra jalapeños. And we were brought jalapeños on top of a to go lid??????? And they didn’t give us lime for our pho at all. Almost forgot my shrimp in my order and brought back my shrimp just laughing about it. I work in the service industry and just found this experience to be extremely disappointing and honestly kind of sad because I was looking forward to a delicious soulful meal to enjoy. Not a wasted $50. Please go to the pho ca dao in Chula Vista it’s worth the drive.

Ive ordered from here for delivery with no problems, but came with a group of five others for sit down; I ordered a cocktail and a B10. After 30 mins, I still had no cocktail, and cancelled the order (but all other drinks were served in a timely manner). Food had been delivered (2 pho, an appetizer, a bahn mi, and a broken rice combo), but my vermicelli combo was still very behind.I spoke with a manager, who cancelled the order and removed the charge for the B10, but I cant say Id return.I understand being understaffed, and Ive worked food service before, but the idea of not serving a table---or at least communicating with them UNPROMPTED---is something Im unlikely to forget.

Great food! Fast service. It feels greasy in there. As if every item in the restaurant has a coating of grease on it. I am not talking about the food. I am talking about the seats, the table, the walls, the ceiling. Its getting thicker. Other than that Ive been going there for years and I love the food.

First Ill say the food is pretty good. Nothing wrong with the food at all. The issue was the service. First I waited like 5 minutes before I had to ask someone for the menu. When my food came, it took so long until I could get their attention so I could get utensils/napkins. I realize were in a covid era, but there wasnt that many customers and it just seemed like they werent taking it seriously. It took me and the group next to me 3 times asking until we finally got some hoison sauce.

First time here and it was good experience. You’re able to choose whether you’d like to dine inside or outside in their nice patio. Plenty of TVs showing multiple sports to accommodate everyone. The regular N5 with extra noodles filled me up and I eat a good amount. If you’re in the area definitely recommend swinging by and giving this place a try.

When this restaurant first opened in Mira Mesa, my best friend and tried it out. Our experience was less than stellar, the food was bland, service was not the best, and the interior not much different from thr Cocos that was previously here. From that point on I told people to mot bother coming here.Cut to now, while out with my son, I asked him where he wanted to eat. He suggested here. So I thought, sure lets try it out again. I am glad that I did so. Everything I fealt that wasd wrong with it before, in the past is gone, or had been corrected.First the location. From the outside, out still looks like the Cocos from the past, but you walk in and embolization is clean, and new looking.Second the staff. Is friendly, helpful, and on the game on checking to see if we needed anything, or refills.Third the food. My son suggested the Char-Grilled chicken with rice. Ok I admit this was good, really good. Because of this I will come back and try other items on the menu.So final word. I freely admit that this place changed for the better, and deserves peoples patronage, so please check it out for your self.

This review is for single item on the menu and that is vermicelli tofu with veggie egg rolls. It is the same delicious vegetarian dish for years. That grilled tofu flavor is hard to replicate. When ordered this for take out, the young lady who took my order was nice to offer me a cup of water while I wait. There is a bar, some booths, and tables inside. Modern decor. Looks very clean. I think they serve Japanese beer too as I saw a Sapporo sign.

In my opinion, Pho Ca Dao is one of the busiest pho places in the Mira Mesa area. Whenever I come to eat here, it is packed with people inside. They sell pho, rice combinations, sandwiches, eggrolls, spring rolls, and drinks/desserts like boba and ice coffee. The food is affordable and $10 can get you a decent meal. Out of all the pho places in San Diego (and even Orange County), I go to this one the most.I visited here on July 20, 2017 at around 20:00 with 2 of my friends after one of them came back hungry from comic-con. He was craving for rice and this place hits the spot. Despite it being busy, parking was not hard to find. As we walked in, the host asked how many (3 of us) and we were immediately seated. Then, we were served with water and menus. I decided to get the number 1 order of the standard Large bowl of pho (I think it was $7.10). I do not know exactly what my friends ordered, but I can tell they were happy.Our food came out in about 5 minutes. My friend ordered 6 egg rolls so we each got 2. I liked it as it was very crunchy, fresh, and tasty. The lettuce was fresh. The sauce was good. After another 5 minutes, my pho and my friends orders came out. I liked my pho. The pho noodles were great, the meat is okay though. Nothing to complain though, but for some of us picky eater in food, the meat is going to be average. I dd not mix my pho with the bean sprouts, basil/mint or lime until I only had the broth left. It was fresh. I did not use oyster or the spicy sauce this time so I can taste the broth. The broth is good, but has a small msg taste (typical of most Pho restaurants), but it is not that strong. After eating the main food, about half of my bowl is covered in broth (also typical of most Pho restaurants). My friends rice dish was good. My other friends pho bowl was good except that it was a bit greasy, but his food is suppose to be that way. He enjoyed it though, but he rather have mine over his though. But overall, my friends and I liked the food.The service was great. The person who welcomed us was patient and smiled when my friend custom ordered his rice dish with extra meatloaf and other food. The server had to repeat our order, which was appreciated of him. They were attentive with our water cups too. I think they came back 3 to 4 times to fill our water cups. Also, when my friend got his food order, he asked for some extra tomato and the person came back with it.I just thought I also mention how clean the place is. The restrooms are nice and clean. Their waiting area is roomy and I like the layout of this restaurant.TL;DR: One of the greatest pho and Vietnamese food at an affordable price with great service in Mira Mesa. Still will come back to eat here.

It was my first time coming to this spot. I googled Vietnamese food near me, and this was among many more pop-ups. It was the closest to me, and the food looked good. When I arrived, I wasnt greeted. In fact, I had to say hello & was treated awkwardly for asking if I needed to sit myself. I work in the restaurant industry & treat everyone with respect the way I want to be treated when eating out. This waitress had some weird attitude with me from the beginning. I ordered spring rolls with shredded pork. It was not good the pork was so dry it was almost like sand wood chip pieces there were two very big rolls. I appreciate the size, but the taste was too dry. I also ordered the beef noodle bowl salad it was good. I really enjoyed it. a huge portion had plenty to take home. I was going to order dessert, but the waitress vibes were so weird. I just chose to leave. I had to get up to get my own take out boxes & to go drink cups. I wont be back maybe in other locations. I do know the waitresss name, but Ill give the benefit of the doubt that she was having a bad day.

Ok these guys are fast. It comes at the cost of quality though. Many items are made ahead of time and well that can be a bad thing. Your spring rolls rice paper arrives dried out. The pho is relatively bland compared to other restaurants. Sorry to say. Wait staff are attentive and pleasant.

Went here for the first time recently and ordered the house pho, but we were pretty disappointed by the quality of the food and will certainly not be coming back.Pros:- The building is attractive and has very pretty outdoor seating- One of the staff members was incredibly charming and attentive (seems like he must have been a shift lead or management)Cons:- The staff member who took our order coughed right on us - twice! - without bothering to cover her mouth, apologize, or even look embarrassed about it- The broth of the pho was really bland. The broth is usually the best part of pho! So this was such a massive bummer- The meat in the soup seemed to be very poor quality, like leftover trimmings.There are so many pho places in Mira Mesa alone, many of which serve much higher quality in the same price range - unfortunately it seems like Pho Ca Dao just cant beat the competition.

Wanted pho after a long day of walking around the zoo and was in this neighborhood and noticed a number of pho places within a couple miles of each other so randomly came here. Just run of the mill pho joint. I got the large combo special pho bowl and they brought out what I considered to be a medium-sized bowl. But understand I live in OC and frequent the Little Saigon pho shops there where competition is stiffer so they gotta be on their game. My bowl did not have the sac and the tai was like 2 skimpy slices. Mostly the cooked sliced beef. Broth was standard fare, detected a good amount of MSG (I was very thirsty afterwards). The garnish pate of sprouts was a joke (see pic). Should have presented in a smaller plate to look less conspicuous lol. If ur dying for pho it will do, but Ive had better. Might try one if the competitors a block to the east or west as a comparison next time Im in town.

Waited 20 min to be seated while there were plenty of open tables. Waited another 15 min for our order to be taken. Then we were given waters we did not order, but those water cups were not cleaned. I took my mom since I was so happy about the first visit. We were shocked! The table was not clean and then the lady spilled our water after it was cleaned up and we had to wait forever for her to get someone to clean it up then wait more for her to come back to order. My food was cold when it was supposed to be a hot soup. The egg rolls were good but ok per Mom. The robot was either too slow or the lady had to wait for the robot to do its job first?? Love the food and staff was friendly. Im not sure why so many people posted negative reviews on the staff. They are all very young but kept it professional. I had an issue with my food, and the waiter took it back (both pieces) and made new ones. The guy was apologetic but it was no biggie to me. He fixed the issue and genuinely felt bad.The food portions are huge so its worth the money. I will keep going back.

The food is pretty good and the wait staff were excellent. We had the vegetarian and the seafood Pho and they were both wonderful The seafood Pho uses a great deal of fake crab and other items so this could be improved but the taste of the broth for both of the Phos were very good. We had the fresh rolls and they were good but lacked some taste. Overall, I would give them a 4 out of 5 stars and would visit again. This is a very good restaurant with good food and very attentive waitstaff.

I usually enjoy ordering from this location in Mira Mesa Blvd, but today, the service was much slower, but this isn’t what I’m complaining about. i ordered the spring rolls and pho special and paid extra for adding a side of noodles. When I came home and opened the bag, there was only one order of noodles, and one sauce l even though it was printed on the order receipt - side of noodle and 2 sauces - taped to the bag. I also realized the cashier never asked if I wanted a receipt or not and automatically clicked on no receipt before I even said anything. Usually I ask for the receipt to be emailed to me. I’m giving a 3 star instead of 1 or 2 because I like the food here. FYI there was another customer sitting across from me for a while who mentioned that he came back cause there was only one order of pho instead of two. I hope the staff will pay more attention to the takeout orders and check before giving the order to customers from now on. I tried calling at 8:50 before I posted this but they were already closed. My kids and I love Pho and since we were in town decided to stop in and get some Pho at this establishment that we are very familiar with being that they are located all over the county. Let me first start by saying that I understand we are still in a pandemic and staffing is low. But, the way we were treated here was terrible.We ordered our food and what I asked for it was missing 2 of the ingredients, but I didn’t want to bother them so I just ate it. When we’re done; I asked for a box to go. We sat for 10 mins waiting for our bill and it never came, so I got up and went to the register. The woman asked me if I was waiting on a to go order and I said, no were done and ready to pay. She told me it would be 25 mins to pay and I repeated it back to her and she said, yes. Well, we did wait that extra 25 mins just to pay our bill!! Ridiculous! Our waitress didn’t even ask me if I wanted a receipt. I pushed for a copy anyway. Will NEVER come to this establishment again!

Decor is really nice, its a fusion of a typical diner plus a bar. Ordering food was a little confusing. I got the pho, which was surprisingly good.They are shortstaffed so expect to wait. This place is good. If you are having Pho, it is super fast. Ive been to Pho Ca Dao many times. The food is a step above what you would expect for a regular lunchtime haunt. It is a local Pho favorite. Most everything Ive eaten there is well made. The part that I find amazing is how quickly and efficiently the place is managed. Unless they are crazy busy, you get seated quickly.As soon as you sit, water is placed in front of you and your order is taken. The food comes out from the kitchen quickly. Your water glass keeps getting filled and the staff is always close by to help.When you are done. Before you walk out the door, they are preparing your table for the next guest. Dont get me wrong, the food is good and the atmosphere is somewhat relaxed for customers. But this place is a well oiled machine.

Still my daughters favorite, but this place has steadily slipped since the peak 3 or so years ago when I first went and you get these enormous bowls of piping hot soup that you could tell had been cooked over days because they were so rich with flavor. The soup still has flavor but not as much, and the bowls have gone through two changes in size, and now remind me of what they used to serve the kids. Too bad, I miss the old place, but I am sill content to go and get my spring and summer rolls and pho on occasion though I long for the pho of the past.

This review is for an online Curbside pickup orderThe online ordering was very simple and they seem to be using Google for that. When I arrived to pick up my order the curbside parking spaces are coned off so you can’t park there, and I called per the instructions but no one answered the phone. I had to go inside.Once inside there was a line of people waiting to be seated. I was able to pass them and go to the counter. The woman at the counter was nice and friendly, I had to wait about 5 minutes to get my food.I got back to my hotel and I didn’t have any napkins, or spoons and forks. We had a bad experience a few years back, and we let it go. People can have bad days. I get that. We went back again last night for dinner since we are close by, and received an even worse treatment than before. There are 4 of us. We ordered 3 XL pho bowls and 1 appetizer. Im usually not too hungry after eating an appetizer, so I just wanted to share a little bit of pho out of my sons bowl. Requested for an empty bowl and a fork, but they never came back. Requested for it a second time, and the poor flustered waiter came back saying that they do not have anymore small bowls. I said thats fine. Just give me a big one. He said he will check, and never came back. We tried catching their attention to check whats going on, but they deliberately avoided eye contact with our table. Finally we got the waiter back at our table and he explained that they cant give us a big empty bowl. And they are out of smaller ones. At that point, I didnt want to eat anymore, so I asked if we could still have a fork which I had asked for before we even started the meal. They took another 5 minutes to come back with it. This is very deliberate. The restaurant isnt busy at all. We could see their service counter and entrance to the kitchen. They were standing there not doing much. They deliberately not want to give us an extra bowl or fork. For what reason, I dont know. I understand their raised prices. I understand their portions being a lot smaller than before. Restaurants are trying to recover from their losses since the pandemic started. I get that. But bad customer service cannot be excused. Does it cost them extra to let us use an additional bowl and fork? I still left a tip for the poor waiter. I could tell that he was flustered and nervous because his manager or employer wouldnt let him serve the customers the right way. This isnt his fault. He still deserves a tip. This is the managers/owners decision to provide bad customer service, so they deserve this bad review.

There were 3 tables with customers eating but the rest of the tables were full of dirty used dishes. Every table. When I asked the man at the counter if and when they would seat us he pointed at the dirty tables and said there was no place to sit yet. I had the Ribeye Lemongrass Pho and the BBQ Pork Banh Mi, the party also enjoyed the Grilled Chicken Pho and the Egg Rolls. The winner here is the broth, it hit all the right marks and is thoroughly delicious on several levels. The Mira Mesa location is clean and well decorated. They work like a finely tuned machine so the service is head spinning fast..almost too fast. A great place to go when you want to eat quickly but not a place to go to dine. Once found a baby snail on one of my leaves of lettuce and was turned off for a few months, but came back eventually. At least its probably organic lol! It will be a while till Im ready to give this place a other chance as I am extremely disappointed on how my family and I were handled, and there is way too much competition in Mira Mesa to put up with this again in the near future.Edit (again lol): looks like this place might be under new management as the looks and vibe of the entire restaurant have been upgraded. This chain pho restaurant is my favorite whenever Im in the La Jolla- UCSD-Mira Mesa area.Prompt service with food appearing very quickly.I usually get #1 pho bowl with everything.Others have reviewed the filet mignon pho bowl very highly - however it seems a little smaller in size than other pho bowls.Spring rolls are good, theyre usually able to split the spicy peanut sauce into 2 separate servings. First and foremost, the food here is good and delicious, with different variety. Usually in most Vietnamese places I go to, only have one type of spring rolls (shrimp and pork slices), but they four types here. I thought it was because of the menus might be opened and they might think werent ready. No they were closed. The place was empty, maybe it was a language barrier and they were shy? No.Eventually a waiter did come, but without a pad. He rested his hands on the table and asked what we wanted. He simply nodded and walked off, which he did get half the order wrong. But what we got was delicious. But nevertheless, its not what we wanted.Paying the bill was the worst, the owner at the register was rude and domineering. He simply said the price, gave carefree remarks, took the money and sent us on our way.I keep coming back, because of the food. If anyone were to ask me for a pho recommendation in SD, Pho Ca Dao would be my number 1 recommendation. Compared to other places, not only is this place one of the cheapest around, but the quality and portions are great as well.For under $8, you can order the large pho with everything it. I think the fastest it has ever come out from ordering to the table has been 60 seconds. Insane right? The broth is very flavorful and the brisket, tendon, tripe, are all on point. Sometimes the sprouts that come with the pho arent the freshest, but it doesnt take away from the overall experience.The restaurant also has ample seating and parking in the back. A college haven for hangover cures, or a haven for cheap, quality pho on a budget as well. Whatever the reason, Pho Ca Dao continues to be my go-to place for pho.

Food is okay but portions are small compared to other similiar restaurants. Staff is unfriendly and almost robotic. When you get your bill, they dont give you a paper receipt showing your total. They hold this machine in front of you and prompt you to swipe your card and it goes directly to your tip options which start at 15%, 20% and up. Wont be going back.

The pho soup is amazing (lol). I had some doubts about the soup and all when a buddy of mine recommended the place to eat at. (He also slightly over hyped the place). But, I got to say, he wasnt wrong. The price of the food is reasonable to me and there are other food to eat there as well. They have a huge selection of pho (way more than most place i believe) which means you should not have any difficulty finding the perfect pho for yourself. I do have one slight issue though: language barrier. I have asked for a side of onions multiple times to multiple people but was never given the onions. I can be wrong about this or they might have heard me wrong due to the amount of people that arrived. Either way I do recommend the location .

Very good value here for Vietnamese food! Food is tasty and cheap, and the service is very quick. I used to live a few blocks away so would come pretty often. The menu is a decent size, and they have vegetarian options here if you have vegetarian friends. Pho is just a bit over $6, and is very tasty for the price. I am not sure about all the positive reviews here, but my experience eating at this place is pure shocking mainly for two reasons. We were seated and ordered the pho and fry rice . Waiting 25 minutes and seeing dozens of other customers who came much later than us and order the same pho we did have their pho, we asked them to check upon the food. another five minutes later the food was brought on. I woundnt have written this if the food were okay. The beef they put in pho is so bad that we find no way to chew it, the chicken they use in fry rice is hard and obviously leftover from other dishes, the dish is full of big chunk of rice sticky together. Been to so many Pho restaurant, this is worst one. Good luck you guys thinking of eating here.

Its not quite like the Pho places in San Jose where the bowls for a regular can easily feed two people, but it satisfies the rainy day cravings. NEW (Mar 7/19): This place has gone from being my fave in the region since Feb 2009 to being in the bottom 3. (UPDATE (Mar 8/19): My brother-in-law informed me that this location is under new mgmt. Which might explain why the service has gone from passable to jerkoff, and why the portion sizes have dropped significantly, and the taste changing from great to barely mediocre. Whatever the case, PCD just lost several former loyal customers primarily because of the bad attitude of their staff.)The 3 young male idiots that work here are always snickering to each other in Vietnamese (Im assuming; might be wrong) when I ask questions (I worked in a Vietnamese restaurant in Canada). And today, I asked about an item on their Web site which is numbered differently in their store menu. I asked if pork patties meant ground pork, which I wanted. Young idiot #1 says yes but his mouth must have glued shut because his lips tightened and he wouldnt say more. I ask does the item come with salad (e.g., bean sprouts, shredded carrots and cucumber strips). Yup, and again with the tight lips and no other words. Clearly, me being a customer to them is a big chore for them.When my takeout is ready, I open it and see what looks like pork hotdog cut in pieces. I ask if I can squeeze some sriracha on it -- the first r is silent, but I forget because its a personal joke to me (sri is an honorific in Indian languages similar to mr, and I have an alter ego Sri Sri Racha). Young Idiots #1 and #2 speak in Vietnamese and laugh, but not before I caught the YI#1 saying see-racha.I tried the pork patties when I got home and they tasted like sour chalk. Worse, Pho Ca Daos noodle portion, at least today, is about 1/4 to 1/3 what it used to be, and the $10 I paid (including tip and tax) was in no way worth it. It used to be; not anymore.Long story short, the older staff is always at least neutral (not friendly in the slightest) but no one at this location or at most Asian restaurants know anything about service and friendliness. The only place where the staff/ owners are actually nice are at Bolsa Vietnam (up the street East about 1.5-2 miles), and Banh Mi Blvd (also up the street, a bit before Bolsa). I will not be going back, and I will tell everyone I know who loves this place (namely my in-laws) to go support other restaurants where people are friendlier.OLD: This is probably one of the most consistently tasty Vietnamese restaurants in this area. A little small on portions but delicious food that is relatively affordably priced, compared to the half dozen other Vietnamese eateries within a few miles. UPDATE: Read the NEW review above. Ive eaten pho all the time in NYC and Philadelphia and this place is as good as it gets. The broth was clear, which I hear is a good judge of pho quality. I took my first spoonful of broth and was blasted with delicious flavor. There was plenty of meat and the bowl was huge.
