After a long hike this restaurant provided an overall great experience! My friends are vegan, so we were looking for a great new spot to try out. We ordered various items and everything was scrumptious. My personal favorite was the Pambazo. You can order it with different protein, but I chose the soyrizo. Every bite was absolutely delicious!! The bread is toasted to perfection and the inside was seasoned well. Its also a hardy plate. The customer service was spot on and my group had a great time. I will be back. Eat up!!!

If you’re ordering online they turn off the option to order about an hour before closing so if you’re within that timeframe you’ll need to call. When I went in to order they wouldn’t allow me to sit down and eat it there with 15 min til close. That was no problem for me since I wanted to take it home but heads up if you’re wanting to eat in the restaurant.All of the meat options are made with soy which is why I went with the bean and cheese burrito. It was big so good size for the price! The chips and salsa came with two salsa containers and a large bag of chips. Tasty chips! The salsa was NOT hot at all so if you’re a spicy person, you’ll need to grab your hot sauce.Restaurant isn’t too large, best for tables of 4 or 5 people tops.

I made sure I tried a few things before making a review. This place is amazing. I’m only mad at my self for not discovering it sooner. All in all I’m glad I did. They give you ALOT OF FOOD. For the price and a great size menu. No complaints. One of my favorite spots to visit while here in San Diego.

Flavorful vegan Mexican food! They have dishes usually not found here in San Diego. The salsas had a nice kick. The decor is artistic as well. Vegan Mexican food is usually bland but this was the exact opposite.

Most healthy and awesome plant-based family-owned restaurant!They have a good variety in their menu, it’s a little pricy due to inflation but it’s honestly worth every penny!If you are very hungry I would try the Pombazo plate!

Overall experience a 5 but the food is more like a 4 in my opinion. a little bland, needing some salt/seasoning but i can tell they put in a lot of effort in the ingredients and in the presentation. i got green enchiladas, they were good but needing some more flavor. my partner got the california burrito, which i though was too sweet but he liked it. i would come back here again but i would try something else

Top notch vegan food. Be aware it is authentic Mexican so it does have a kick but it was so flavorful. I had the birria soup and fish tacos and it was all so fresh and delicious. Its been our favorite place thus far on our visit to San Diego.

Very yummy. I dont do vegan but the person I was with is on a vegan diet. They will ask what you are interested in and offer suggestions. They actually asked if I was ok with soy meats or if I preferred vegetarian, which I really appreciated. I went with a bean and cheddar burrito, and I added avocado and pico. It was big and toasted to perfection. The salsa options are both medium and very tasty! I enjoyed the food and would go back if I have the option.I love the atmosphere there, you feel like you are in an outdoor cafe, the music was loud and well curated, salsa and other upbeat rhythms.

There was a review about the price and it is a bit pricey but omg the quality made it worth it. Considering Escondido doesn’t have the most options for vegan fast food too and that this is a local business. It was really good, and I would recommend it.

If I could give zero stars I would, this place had me excited to try not only by the reviews but word of mouth. But, as I ate inside I saw a roach on the floor which made me consider what was in the kitchen I left immediately, I was so nice I didnt even ask for a refund. These are the pictures it smelled really good but my appetite was conquered by the thought of uncleanness. Btw I took these pictures before I considered leaving. I wont ever be back,Sorry.

Their food is excellent and the portions are big. Great service also - I had to pick up a few vegan options for a wedding rehearsal dinner at the last minute and arrived just as they were closing, but they were very accommodating and let me order anyway. I definitely recommend this place 👌

We had a great vegan meal here, the taco plate and California burrito were excellent, and the beans and rice that came with the plate came out wonderful. Their only menu is on a giant board outside the front door, so be sure to take a look before entering.

I like dropping in for meatless alternatives of Mexican/Latino food. I stopped in about 1430. The location, exterior, and interior of the strip mall look bland and boring, but I came specifically for meatless food. A huge menu is posted outside. Know what you want before entering because there is no overhead menu inside. The cashier who took my order was friendly. A few minutes later he brought me a plate of taquitos de papa that I didn’t order. He said my order of the Phatties Special Gordita would take awhile to prepare. The taquitos were a surprise. My gordita was just as delicious. I will have to make the long drive out again for a complete meal. 5 stars for great food and friendly service.My apologies for eating before snapping the fotos. I was a little too eager to eat first.

Beautiful little vegan place. I absolutely loved my food. My family enjoyed as well. The kids had the kids quesadilla that comes with beans and rice. The beans are really good, they seem freshly made to me. The gorditas were nice and filling. Salsas are tasty, the pambazo was great. The customer service is great as well. Bomb! The nice sized portions make up for the priciness. We spent $13 for chips and guacamole but had enough to take home for later. I got the phatties burrito and it was amazing, I barely finished half. I was a little skeptical about the sweet potato fries but trust me it’s worth a try! The guac was fresh af btw.

They have a variety of dishes and protein choices as far as plant-based ingredients go, which is a nice welcome. We got Queretaro style enchiladas, which are like soft tacos cooked in some delicious grease. Gordita plate had nice soft corn patties stuffed with a protein of your choice. I dont know if it was the adobada but it was little bland, unless the green salsa is added. Jalepeno on the plate is not too hot, and definitely edible. If I am in the area I would definitely try something else. The service is good, the decor is nice, rice and beans are OK.

To have one close to home and be really good, worth the price, great portion size, and presentation. Im fully satisfied. Our first time here and we are in love with Phatties! The food was fresh, tasty, and flavorful! We ate the Enmoladas and the homemade mole was delicious! Its hard to believe this is all vegan! I am incredibly picky with a restaurant regarding the food AND customer service, but Phatties won me over! Thank you, Victor, for your awesome service and kind gesture in offering us complimentary Taquitos, which were absolutely delicious! First timer here and I am hooked! First of all, the decor is to die for! Love the hacienda type look they have going on. Feels like you are having a meal in your home. The service was outstanding. The gentleman at the front was super helpful with his descriptions and suggestions. He even offered samples of the aguas frescas. I ordered one Gordita and one enchilada. The portions are very generous! I didn’t realize we were there 15 min past their closing time. We were never rushed. I can appreciate a restaurant with good food but when you have amazing service like they do here, it definitely makes me want to come back and tell everyone about this place. 10 stars ⭐️

This place was poppin’ on Sunday at noon! Either a lot of people are vegan or it’s that good!It’s hard to see the store front but you’ll see the big tent and a sign for Vegan Nectar next door. Must be the same owner. Plenty of parking.This place serves salad, burritos, tacos, and rice plates. All vegan Mexican food. Oh and vegan birria which means you can’t miss out on anything.You order and pay first inside before you go seat yourself. You’re given a buzzer. You can sit indoor or outdoor patio.I got the Phattie’s burrito and my friend got California burrito. It was cut in half so we swapped the half to try both. Both tastes similar except that Phattie’s have sweet potato fries. Very flavorful and texture like meat. No wonder why this place was packed!

The food was amazing and they let me choose to add quinoa to my burrito 🌯. Only 3 stars because they served chips with no salsa and only had green sauce. I asked for other sauces, “I was craving red sauce”, but they said nothing but green sauce only!! They are the first Mexican place without hot sauce. Not even Tapatio, cholula nothing I was so sad!! On our journey from San Clemente to Cuyamaca Park we stopped in for a meal. Both meals were exactly what we ordered and delicious. Service excellent. Whenever we are in this area this is where we stop for our meals. We are one vegan and one omnivor and both of us were very happy with our meals. As a vegan I was most happy not having to concern myself about what might be in my food.

I dont care if youre vegan or not vegan, this place is LEGIT either way. The pambaca torta with soyrizo is phenomenal - vaguely reminiscent of Tommys chili, on the softest bread, perfectly seasoned and perfectly proportioned with toppings and fillings. Breakfast burrito was also fantastic, and servings are quite large and filling - we typically finish everything and dont leave with leftovers, but here the portions were sizable and filling enough that we left with half a bfast burrito and garlic fries for later, as well as a couple containers of the green salsa, which was also fantastic. Carnivores, dont let the vegan label deter you - this is hands down quality food. Definitely recommend!

We had such an enjoyable lunch at Phatties today and I am very happy to write them a great review. Authentically Mexican menu, ambiance, and charming staff. I so appreciate the Vegan, made to order, flavorful dishes. I didnt even want to use any salsa because the flavors were already so good. We shared the potato taquitos with a side of guacamole, the chili relleno, and the in house made corn gorditos. What a wonderful first time experience. We will definitely be back. My only suggestion would be brown rice, and whole grain flour tortillas because I do not like refined foods, but that is a personal preference and I still have to give this 5 stars based on overall experience and enjoyment factor. Only thing I do not recommend is the nopales gordita. It will literally only be nopales. This is a gem of a vegan restaurant in Escondido where it almost seems impossible to find a Mexican place that doesnt use chicken stock in the rice. So many options, so much flavor, cant go wrong with this place. I would highly recommend the Queretaro style Enchilada, its bursting with flavor, such a satisfying meal. Right next to it is also a vegan smoothie bar/juicery/sandwich/bagel place that is awesome and a great compliment to the restaurant

We have only visited twice but each time we have all ordered something different and everything has been delicious. Three rolled tortillas filled w/ black bean picadillo Smothered with Phatties homemade serrano chili sauce & topped with cheese, cilantro, diced tomato, avocado, red onion, sliced radishes, and a side of rice and beans.SO GOOD!!! My only reservation (he said with tongue planted firmly in cheek) is that the presentation was so beautiful, I didnt want to spoil it. But spoil the presentation I did, and gladly. This place is so good, and they have everything. Ive only come by here once so far but intend to try every thing on the menu through multiple visits.I tried the Phatties Burrito and highly recommend it.The service was the best service Ive ever received. The BEST, most authentic Vegan Mexican food Ive ever had! I enjoyed my California burrito with huitlacoche, and it was HUGE. Also, I had the mole fries, but werent a big hit with me. On the weekend, they serve birria tacos made with mushrooms, and these are incredible! The best part were the delicious beans and rice! These were by far the tastiest Ive ever had! Prices are a bit high, however, considering the portions- well worth it! The outdoor dining was really nice and relaxing. Customer service right on par! Not only is this place hands down the best vegan Mexican food, it’s the best Mexican food in general in all of San Diego. I know San Diego has a lot of Mexican food, I’m born and raised here so I mean it when I say absolute best. It’s the kind of food that makes you dance and smile the entire time you’re eating it. They definitely chose the right name. First timer going to their spot as I rarely roll up to the north county.First off they chose the right name! “Phat” amounts and portion and “phat” prices abound. I’m not sure if I was speaking to the owner but they keep their system straight forward and the menu is right out front. Since there was so many to choose from I asked the guy taking my order what’s the local favorites that a lot of folks order.His response was the Phatties burrito, and their phish tacos.I took their suggestion, got the food 15 or so minutes later and went to town with the food. I tried the phish tacos first, this one worked out! My favorite “phish” tacos or burritos come from El Veganito if you’re in the La Mesa area and Phatties did it justice.Next I tried the phatties burrito- couldn’t get on the hype train for that one. The sweet potato fries in the burrito were a bit off for me.Good news is that the menu has plenty of other things to try next time. For now I will vouch for the phish tacos or burrito(if they have a phish burrito).Will definitely be back.

My husband and I love Phatties! Even though we’ve been vegan for a little over two years, we are still finding new places to enjoy and recipes to try. Phatties is amazing! Our favorite dishes are the Phatties burrito (wet) and the Adobado fries. We also love getting the birria tacos on the weekends. Great food! A large menu for those who prefer vegan options. My partner felt the soyrizo was on the spicy side (she doesn’t like spicy!) but loved the mushroom quesadilla. I’m a big fan of the steak and potato Gordita, better than the chicken. The wait time was about 20 minutes after ordering, and we were the only ones there. So this here is another case of a one star and its not because of the food. Its theirs customer service. First and foremost i am not vegan but i been considering. I dont know how to cook vegen yet. I stopped by today at 7:50pm there were still customers eating on a booth. First, I gave three stars, but the location has only been open a few days so consider this review as an initial or incomplete assessment. There is a possibility of the stars going up or down. Lets begin. This is a family owned business. The owners and employees are very friendly and attentive and aim to please. It is the execution and menu pricing that is lacking. The restaurant is nicely decorated, but the seating is among the most uncomfortable I have ever sat upon. Squirming while eating is no fun. There are no plates for the food, plastic or otherwise. You eat from a paper tray box on foil or a round foil take out container with thin plastic utensils. This is okay for a quickly type take out place, but not at these prices. It makes enjoyment of the food difficult. Plates are sorely needed. Now for the food itself. The menu is expensive! A two enchilada combo that comes with frozen battered onion rings and a grilled jalapeno with onions is $9.49. A gordita plater with 2 gorditas and a tiny portion of sour cream and beans and a grilled jalapeno s $13.99. Served in a foil take out container. There are no chips or salsa and no rice. Same goes for a pambazo with frozen onion rings and a jalapeno at $11.99 A pambazo by itself is $9.79. A huarache is $9.29 too. Fries are $3.99 and $5.99. The location sells Aguas Frescas for $3.69 - $4.99. There is no soda fountain. Only soda bottles on ice, orange and cola. Smoothies are $6.49 - $8.00! Now, the food is okay, not the best and not the worst. And the portion sizes are average, but the prices too high. Thus three stars. I wanted this place to be great. it still can be. But with a lot of great nearby competition and the problems I wrote about, they will need to change to survive in my opinion. I wish them well.
