The food here was pretty good went to order our food and we got this fantastic kid named Noah with a great personality made our day. He got the order right with no problems and then we went and got a nice seat on the patio. There we had great service by someone named Aiden he did a great job. Great place to take the kids.

Nice place ! I was there for lunch and was not disappointed with my baby back rib meal. The servings were generous, with counter pick up (I think table service would have been better).> My quarter rack, 5 bones, ribs were really good. I ordered mine dry with sauce on the side. Rub was mildly spicy and the sauce was thin with a vinegar tang, really liked it.> Coleslaw was excellent, really tasty.> Fries very good, hot and slightly crispy.Service was friendly and store appeared to be clean. One of the best places to get Pork Ribs, A must visit in San Diego. We got the full rack pork ribs with Macaroni Salad and Coleslaw. It was goooood. The meat was soft and tender, and their bbq sauce is one of a kind. The staff was welcoming, and the manager was kind enough to give us extra coleslaw on the house! Definitely recommended, and I will visit again soon.

You really cannot beat Happy hour at Phils BBQ. Beer pints for $5, a person could get used to that! And the food, very good. Not every day, though; we have to balance our nutrition with kale smoothies and Cobb salads, but once in a while, go ahead and treat yourself!

Let me first start off by saying, thank you to Nicole for the excellent service she provided. We decided after a late game to head over to Phil’s before they closed and thank goodness they were open. Bar-B-Que chicken was fantastic, both potato and macaroni salad, excellent! Also, thanks for converting my daughter’s kid burger to a double cheeseburger, she said it was delicious. Next time we are in Santee for a game, we will definitely be stopping at Phil’s and highly recommend everyone else do the same!!

Pretty good bbq place. Busy as well. Got the beef and chicken combo, full pork rack and half chicken meal. All were well cooked and seasoned. Only complaint was they gave me only 1 3oz container of bbq sauce for 3 dinner boxes and and large side of fries.

To be honest the ribs were very expensive didnt realize what I was ordering they were so huge. But not the less they was very tender very tasty. Moneywell spent! They get a 10 on my scale!!! An I gave a giant Appetite. But irregardless of my appetite the food must taste very good seasoned and tinder and it was all that. I will serve with the smile the people seem to be extremely polite. And I appreciate the dining Inn with my family from out of town everybody enjoyed the food no complaints. Very good dinner money well spent!!! Ther were 4 eating in our party.

First time actually ever coming here. The staff is super friendly and nice.I do love how they have music playing on the outside as you walk up to the building. Food is good. A little expensive (probably cause of the name and following) (which I still think there are just as good/or better bbq spots in SD) so don’t think I will be back here any time soon.Also a little sad that they don’t have Mac N cheese or cornbread.

I wish I had ordered the beef ribs, because those looked so good. I just ordered some sides of meat. I got the shaved brisket (not certain its called that) and two orders of the pulled pork because I thought the sides were going to be small. I was wrong. This place is not stingy with its serving size. I almost filled up on the brisket alone. Not a fan of the sauce that was served. Thats just personal preference though. The pork was fine. It wasnt very fatty, so it was kind of difficult to swallow. Im a believer in fat equals flavor. It was great reheated later in more fat.

I came here for the first time around 9 years ago in 2013 and I fell in love immediately! Their ribs are so good and they care about quality over quantity. The food also comes out really fast. Most occasions I come here with family (around a party of 10) and they make sure everything is good and that we have an enjoyable experience! Their fries are crunchy and tasty. Their corn is fresh and juicy. Their Phil’s sauce is also amazing with any bbq foods!

Three suggestions for Phils BBQ take out. 1) Ask for your fries in a separate container, Phils should know fries get soggy with meat on top. 2) Ask for dressing and croutons for salad separate from salad. 3) Skip the steamed veggies, they had no seasoning at all.

I only order the Beef Ribs. They are so good. I like to add a habanero hot sauce to it and it’s perfect. For the sides the potato salad and the Fries are good.Due to COVID, they no longer take any phone take out orders. You have to drive there and order on the spot.Due to this reason, I will drive East to a less busy location. There are certain locations where you’ll have to wait much longer as they have higher volume of people coming in.

The food is alright but for 33$ for 3 beef bones its really not that even close to what it should be. The service is what really gets me as they slide the card reader to you expecting a tip when they dont even bring the food out to you, all they litterally do is just take your order then you have to go pickup the food yourself even if its just me and 6 of my senior family members who i dont expect to come with me, The prices go up and the quality goes down... Id recommend buckboards in el cajon you really get some better prices meals and the quality of the food is way better! and they bring the food to you which is deserving of a tip. Never coming here again to waste 400$ on a party of 7 then they expect a 40$ tip too.... forget that and forget phills

For a chain.... the BBQ here is very good! The loaded fries with tri-tip are simply the best. To try a little of everything, the sampler is a good way to go. Inside bar, with various types of alcohol. If your waiting in a long line, they have a bar window to order drinks while you wait. Sports atmosphere, with lots of table and booth seating. Private area for those planned parties. Bathrooms clean, and friendly service.

I wish I had some pictures for the meal I had in this amazing place. But I was shocked with the food portion and taste. We went to this place with our cousins who really recommend this place for smoked beef and ribs. We ordered the beef ribs and Mac salad with fries. The portion and taste cant be described in words. Went to Phils BBQ after my Flag Football game in Santee. The time it took for me to order, sit at the bar to wait for my order, and order a drink, was just under 10 minutes. I had a half rack ribs with a small coleslaw, and a small fries. Food was very good and I was watching the March Madness Tournament while I ate. The drink was what you see on the jar in the photo. Staff was accommodating and friendly. The ribs fell off the bones! I had a small left hand injury and ate the ribs with one hand. I recommend!

I came to Phils BBQ with my long time friend who is local to the area upon his strong recommendation. I am glad he did this BBQ place was amazing! I am from the Inland Empire in California, and travel pretty frequently. I am only reviewing the food. Everything here seemed overpriced for what you get.I ordered the beef and chicken and two small sides. With tip this came to almost $39. Took it to go.Sadly, it was disappointing.The rib bones were bland, no smoke flavor, the chicken was slimy and also tasteless. The sauce was too sweet. We love the food. It is consistent time after time. We like to sit in the bar to eat as they will take your order and bring your food to the table. The bar staff are also consistent in service. Best Ribs place in San Diego, normally there is a lot of people so be prepared to stand in line for at least 10 to 20 minutes. There is beef and pork ribs. Beef ribs are huge so go for the 3 bones or 5 if you want left overs for the next day. Personally I like better the pork ribs and I pick beans and fries for the side.

Normally I get the beef ribs but the other day I tried the 10 wings dry and they were so good. They came with a side of ranch and blue cheese. The wings are my new favorite. $11 for 10 wings is such a deal. A link and a drink for $5 is another great deal. Today I came back and the wings were just as good as the other night. Honestly disappointing. I tried Phils BBQ a while back and havent returned because it wasnt really good. Today it smelled so good I decided to give it another try and ordered food to go. The food was dry and had pretty much no flavor, the flavor it did have was not pleasant. I tried to put BBQ sauce on it but it didnt help. Also got a sausage and it had poor flavor and was tough.I literally ended up throwing my $12 pork sandwich and $5 sausage in the trash after a few bites.Just drive a few extra miles for Grand Ol BBQ in Flinn Springs, you wont be disappointed with their food. Its actually BBQ and smoked unlike Phils.

I was there Thursday night after a long road trip. I was welcomed and greated professionally by Joanna, she was patient with me and answered my questions about the menu. She even offered a sample to taste as I was not sure about sides. She was humble and patient with me. And the order was made fast. Her extraordinary customer service first and food quality second were the reason I bought another larger dinner to go for my family even though I have to drive about 3 hrs North and my family and kids loved the surprise dinner. Note, my second order was taken by Sheldon a great man with a great personality and excellent customer service too. After ordering our food, we sat at a booth & our pager went off in 10 mins. that our food is ready. All we could agree on was that it was soo good - baby back ribs so tender & tasty, BBQ sauce is delicious, chicken wings- smoked & well seasoned, very tender. Phils continues to impress me. They have added a kiosk to the takeout line so you can order right in the waiting line. There is an area to stand whilst waiting for your to go order. The staff is super polite. Theyre courteous. Theyre efficient. Every time I go to Phils its a good experience. I ordered the fries with the brisket on them; it was really good. I usually get take out from the Santee location for Phils BBQ. First off, the customer service has always been on a bend over backwards level of helpfulness to make sure my order is correct, complete and fast. I usually get the rib-less or chik-less dinner combo. (no bones) Its a bit less messy as you can use fork and knife. But the Bone-in baby back ribs and chicken are just as awesome. The baked beans and mac salad are my go to sides, as well as the corn on the cob. I have not tried the beef ribs yet but I plan to in the near future. The only thing I would like to see change is maybe if they had a brisket option. The BBQ has a nice zip to it. Not too spicy, but if you have a lot the heat will build. If you are not a huge spicy fan, or just need to cool the mouth down, take your next bite for a dunk in the Ranch dressing. The ranch is fantastic. I wish theyd sell it in the bottle like they do for the BBQ sauce. If you can come at off peek times its easier to find a place to sit, but if it is busy they do their best to get people in, fed, and back on their way. Worth the wait.I recommend this restaurant.

Me and my family of like 20 came to eat at Phil’s bbq at this specific location on 1-22-23 around 7:00 - 7:30pm to celebrate a 1st birthday.Me and my family of 5 were the last to eat since everyone ordered ahead of us. i noticed my cousin after eating her meal felt nauseous as if something wasn’t settling right.She didn’t think anything of it until she texted me saying hey, I think we’re sick just to let you know, I told her we felt fine till Monday morning I started throwing up and having constant diarrhea.Then my 1year old started throwing up and he only ate the fries. Then we started getting calls and messages from family that ate at Phil’s bbq saying they are vomiting and having constant diarrhea also & mentioned that the food tasted off like sour and what not.Phil’s bbq will be getting a complaint because this is ridiculous of how many of us got sick from just eating their food. And we are very loyal customers of Phil’s bbq we have been going for so many year’s and I believe we deserve some type of refund for this horrible experience. Who knows how many other customers got sick…Well I’m sure from everyone’s separate payments everyone probably spent over a $100 just to get food poisoning 😭 plus prices went up just because of “Covid” like the prices were already expensive before 🥺😭FYI you left a pregnant woman in emotional distress for giving her food poisoning. There were few weeks I would show up twice in a week just to get chicken after working out.I typically get the buster, well done, no onion ring every time. My group went to Point Loma and were in a line around the corner and decided to check out Santee - no wait and lots of space for our large group + a baby! Its an order then find a place to sit sort of place with drink refill stations, hand washing stations (for all that bbq sauce), to go materials easy for us to get on own and plenty of staff all willing and able to help us as needed. Theres a bar for those who want something stronger drink, an outdoor patio and lots of tvs to stay aware of various games. We ordered a family meal and added a few extra items - it was plenty for our 7 adults. They had high chairs available for the baby. They took away plates as we were done with them, recommended drinks and brought to go drink cups. Besides the amenities and service, everything I tried was delicious. Everything I saw other people ordered looked great. They had a variety of seasoning options to help us enjoy the food the way we wanted. We will come back.One thing I wish they had was seat covers in the womens restroom. They had holders for them but I didnt see any in the two stalls I went into. But, no stars lost as I also didnt ask about them.

Ive been going to Phils since way back when they had that little place up in Hillcrest and to be honest its excellent every time. I never miss it when I come back to San Diego to visit and the meat is always great the service is always great I love their sauce they have a good selection of beer.One tip they gave you a ton of fries if you order them so dont order any extra because the amount that they give you for one person can easily satisfy two. However I generally dont order any sides because I dont want anything getting in the way of that beautiful meat.Phil has operated a terrific barbecue establishment and is a super nice guy. We had a $49+ take out order from Phil’s BBQ on May 19 at 2:15pm. We checked the bags in the car and found that our little $2.99 bag of cookies was missing from the order. I walked back inside to pick it up and Jesus the restaurant manager was speaking to the shift manager ( so sorry, name escapes me), I shared that I was just coming back in to pick up the cookies; and WOW - the Customer Service was amazing! First Jesus, and the SM they were so friendly and so apologetic, they saw the receipts and got the cookies right away. Then Jesus went above and beyong by giving me a little “goodie bag” to make up for things. Included were some sauce and some rub and a beautiful loaf of corn bread which I had been admiring but didn’t actually by this time. It was so delicious that we’re definitely going to be adding it to our future orders! Customer service is so important and it seems to be forgotten at many places these days, but as a consumer I always appreciate when people are friendly and try to do their best at work, it makes for a wonderful experience! I recently took a trip across America and tried Kansas City, Knoxville, Texas and North Carolina BBQ. Phils was a Kansas City style and compares decently to some of the best places in Kansas City. A lot of people are going to try and say Coops or Brazen Bull are better, but thats not even close. Phils has a consistent flavor that is fantastic.Ive tried many places in San Diego, maybe 10 others, but now I dont even bother with the other places because Phils is the best in San Diego, in my opinion.Prices have exploded as of July 2022. I suppose its now time to look at other BBQ options. $30 for a single plate (best of both w/ beefy ribs) is a bridge too far.

I stopped in for a beer and some food however they wouldn’t accept the temporary license that was issued to me while I’m waiting for my new copy. like it’s not a valid form of identification? yet it’s current and I don’t make the dmvs choices on their timeline for to send my my hard replacement hard copy. The manager came and spoke with me and told me no problem the paper copy’s match the expired ID. However then he came back after a couple minutes and told me it was not going to be acceptable. Probably some of the worst bbq I’ve ever had in my life. I’ve had local bbq in Florida, North Carolina, Virginia and I can say today I had the worst bbq ever and it was a waste of $71 dollars. Ordered my son the chicken tickler and the chicken was SO dry inside. The fries were also room temp and too soft when we got our food. I ordered a cheese burger and the patty was also super dry and the onion ring inside felt stale. I didn’t realize you had to order sides separately but thankfully I didn’t order any fries since they weren’t good. The cheese was only on one half of the burger as well which didn’t help. My husband ordered the baby back ribs and thankfully he liked them but his fries were also soggy. Would never go to this place again and I wish we could get a refund.

Maybe a good dig if you’ve never had good BBQ???Best part of dinner were the onion rings. Had the Baby Back Ribs, Chickless, Tri-Tip sandwich, fries, and onion rings. The ribs were over cooked and bland and the chicken was heavily seasoned with spices, but was dry and lacked good smoke flavor. The house BBQ sauce was a heavily sweetened vinegar based tomato sauce. The Tri-Tip was arguably good, but was drowned in sauce, which obscured the actual flavor of the meat. The fries were like warm and slightly soggy, as though they had been sitting out. The onion rings were hot, fresh, and crisp. By far, they were the show stopper…. Which is terrible to say of a BBQ location….I have now visited several times, each time hoping for a better outcome… despite the mediocre (at best) offerings, it is always crowded… which makes me believe that maybe this place is good if someone has never lived in a place that has truly great (or even good) BBQ.

Where to start? If you are southern, finding BBQ in Cali is a must. So, if you are like me and are wondering if I should try this out. Just stop. Stop contemplating. This is the real deal. Get the combo with double the ribs. You are going to want to get a full rack of ribs. I promise. They are that great! However, given that I have eaten here ten times I would highly recommend to get the ribs with the sauce on the side. Their sauce is amazing, but they drown the ribs to the point where you only taste sauce. Get the mac and cheese. It is to die for fyi. The coleslaw is iffy. Im not going to say it is horrible, but they sometimes season it too much. Thank me later for the mac and cheese. The sweet tea is okay. I can make better, but I understand they have to use liquid sweeteners, due to all of the business that they receive. Other than that I do not regret ever eating here. Everyone is super professional. It is a family environment where you can enjoy a great meal. Kind of reminds me of Hooters in the south, but clearly not as provocative.

Good BBQ for California. Super busy if you go at dinner time. I drove by and chose not to go in one night at 8pm. I tried the next night after 9 and it was easy to get in. I would like to see more variety and different combo options. I like to try a little of everything but it seemed pretty expensive to try to put together a sampler. The add-on prices were pretty steep in my book. I also didnt understand why the beef rib price is so high since when I make my own they are often cheaper then baby backs. Maybe they were meatier than what I buy. Not sure since I went the cheaper option. Really love getting the El Toro Fries here. IMO its the best deal for the money and I usually get two plates every Saturday after work for me and my kids. You can also dine in and add a link and a drink for $5 which is also good.

I dont know. People here love this place. Its OK if youre looking for barbecue style food but nothing like you get in Texas or Missouri or anywhere in the south. Its a go to for our corporate functions and they do a great job of catering and making that part very easy and there is something there to please everyone.

Such a fun restaurant! Very friendly and helpful staff. The baby back ribs were delicious. Order the sauce on the side because the taste of the meat should NOT BE hidden! :-) the potato salad, coleslaw, baked beans, and onion rings were excellent sides!

Food was excellent, as always. Servers are alert and provide that extra help. Counter person noticed I had more food dishes than I could easily handle. He immediately offered to help me get everything to our table.

When we arrived there was no line! The food here is always decent. It definitely used to be better. There was an issue with getting onion rings, as myself and 3 other guests had to wait almost 20 min for our side orders of onion rings. On the positive side, the philibuster burger is amazing!

While I did think the Rib-less meal they had was a bit dry, their service was fantastic. They were patient for us first timers. When I went to pick up my order, the staff helped me bring it to my table. The waiter was young but polite and attentive. He even had his crew sang happy birthday to my sister. I can tell it made her birthday extra special. It was her choice to come here and Im glad they made it memorable.

There can be a line sometimes but when you make it in, its worth it.The staff is always friendly and helpful. Managers are always on the lookout in order to give you a great experience. Drink menu goes well with the food. This is a family restaurant so no crazy people. If you into getting wasted this is not for you.

In a nutshell, excellent! Food is always delicious! They do not skimp on the portions and you wont leave hungry! Service is quick, servers are attentive. I always get the rib tickler plate. Plenty of bbq riblets. The Cole slaw is fabulous and top that off with both fries and onion rings. Cant beat it!

I never thought you could pig out in a fancy way. Phils is the best of both worlds. Good american sized portioning mixed with a diligent staff. I eat here more than I probably should but my god is it good.
