It’s awesome to have a Vietnamese restaurant in downtown Berkeley and Pho Tasty is a solid offering. However, compared to most Vietnamese restaurants I’ve visited in the Bay (which is a lot because it’s my favorite cuisine), the portion sizes are on the small side and the prices are on the high side. The prices may be justifiable given high rents in Berkeley, but the portions could be 25% larger as my vermicelli bowl was really not big enough for a dinner portion (and that should be doable as the food itself isn’t a giant part of the costs of running a restaurant…)
Broth could have had more flavor, but honestly after trying so many pho places in the East Bay, that seems to be the standard. Overall everything was great, the beef was good, the brisket was great. The egg rolls were crunchy and flavorful. The broth once you add the limes, basil, and some sriracha and marinated in the meat, it ended up hitting the spot. Restaurant is SUPER clean and nice. Definitely going to be my go-to pho spot for sure.Update:We went back and damn, they either worked on the broth recipe or the first time we went was an off day because it was WAY better, it was super good! That solidified this place as a 5/5 for us, and were bummed we couldn’t eat it more before moving away
We ordered take out and all the dishes came out quickly and were piping hot when we picked up. Portions are very generous and the pho broth tasted great. Will need to come back and return for a sit down meal as the interior seems really clean and new.
$18 for a bowl of pretty pedestrian pho. The broth was pretty lacking in flavor. At a lower price point I probably wouldnt have complained, but this is over priced for what it is.
Do not get this overpriced, bland pho. At least there was hoisin sauce or the meal wouldve had no flavor.The place looks great, but maybe if they used the money they spent on those fancy bathroom sinks on ingredients instead, the food wouldnt be so bad.Staff was also pretty condescending when we asked questions about side dishes.
Stand out flavorful broth. However, okay otherwise - very expensive and not worth the cost. The add ins provided were less than half the amount all other pho restaurants give.
When you first walk in, it breaks every expectation. Sleek, modern design, English-only menu, with pop tunes playing through the speakers. At $18 for a phở đặc biệt, you know its either going to be amazing, or quite a letdown. Luckily, Phở Tasty delivers a large serving of flavorful broth, high quality ingredients, and perfect preparation. While the amount of meats may be slightly less than your average phở bowl, the quality far surpasses most shops. Ill be back.
Its fine. The neighborhood that a restaurant is in doesnt always indicate what the food is like, but in this case 100% I think this is the case.
Unbelievably good. We had the pho, the duck noodles, and the banh xeo. We never eat at the same place twice in a week, and we did when we found this place. One of the best restaurants in Berkeley.

2023-01-08 04:39:06Wonderful Vietnamese restaurant. We ordered Banh Xeo, Bun Bo Hue, Pho Dat Biet and they were all tasty! The restaurant is clean, bright, brand new, and well decorated with lots of Vietnamese paintings and tributes. As a Vietnamese myself, I’d definitely recommend this restaurant!

2022-12-05 03:31:37Opened about two months ago? Very clean with a nice restroom. Ordered a small and an XL pho beef bowls. Too much MSG and too pricey, $16 and $20, respectively. The taste does not justify the price, but then again its around downtown Berkeley.

2023-08-20 22:33:59Loved this place! The server was incredibly kind and considerate, maintaining immense patience with us through our indecision and needs. We kept asking for more onions/bean sprouts and he was gracious enough to bring additional plates to our table for free. He also ended up gifting us a Thai Tea!

2023-09-04 02:21:36A super legit and delicious Vietnamese restaurant in Berkeley. Definitely our go-to for local Vietnamese along with PhoSho Dough and Eating Saigon! The broths for our soup were super flavorful and you can taste all the different spices. Banh xeo crispy and delicious. Have been here at least a few times and consistently good each time. Ambiance is nice too. Viet parents also approved of the dishes they got. Prices are very reasonable!If you have a problem with the prices only bc you’re used to Viet food being inexpensive, please consider how workers can make a living wage with that expectation in the Bay and why you think Viet food should be inherently cheaper.

2023-07-24 03:21:48Had the rare beef pho soup and Im almost 100% certain the noodles and broth are just packet noodles with the flavouring powder. The noodles were thin and a bit curled, exactly like packet noodles, and were strangely clumped together like a packet noodle brick at the bottom of the bowl. The broth was dark (normally a good indicator) but you could tell it was artificial. The meat was fine, all in all, the meal was ok, but wouldnt revisit.

2022-09-17 04:55:26Weve waited years for an amazing pho place to appear in downtown Berkeley. This is it.Portion sizes are massive, the pho tastes very traditional, and servers were extremely nice. Will be coming here a lot more in the future.

The servers are way too aggressive and I tried to complain about food and they said if you don’t like it we can throw it away and they were saying it in a very aggressive way. The pho is not good it lacked the amount of meat in it and it was just broth and noodles.
