2023-10-30 05:59:59New Indian restaurant in Castro Valley - delectable food, great ambience and service. The food is very well presented and is lip-smacking!!! It is not a run-of-the-mill Indian restaurant, the menu is selective and the food really delivers. A must-try spot!

2023-10-22 02:38:17I recently dined at this charming Indian restaurant and was thoroughly impressed by the entire experience. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with a warm and inviting atmosphere. The cozy decor, soft lighting, and comfortable seating created the perfect ambiance for a memorable meal. They have great try Garlic Shirmp and also dildaar paneer. Their Chaats are great too. For sweet side I tried Gajar ka halwa and was so great.

2023-10-22 06:49:18Phulkari in Castro Valley, California, is a culinary gem. The Chicken Tikka Masala and Garlic Naan were superb. Don’t miss the Gajar ka Halwa for dessert, and the Malai Kulfi, beautifully garnished with rose syrup and pistachios, was a delightful treat. The Anjeer Kofte, featuring succulent fig-stuffed dumplings in a rich gravy, is a must-try for those seeking unique flavors. And the Garlic Shrimp is a flavorful seafood option that adds a delightful twist to the menu. The restaurant’s cozy ambiance adds to the overall experience.Phulkari pays attention to every detail, making it a must-visit for Indian food enthusiasts in the Bay Area.Every cent spent at Phulkari is well worth it.😊

2023-11-16 18:10:25We had a delicious meal at Phulkari, comfort foods presented in a different style. Clovis and Deepak gave above excellent service, friendly and attentive. We had Taj beer, pesto naan, samosa, Chicken Tikka and yellow Dal. We are eager to come back and explore more.

2023-11-05 00:47:52Tried Phulkari for the first time yesterday evening, and the food, as well as the service was truly wonderful. Some of the dishes were new to us though we have been eating Indian food for decades, and those new dishes that we tried were absolutely the best! A very special shout out to the fried cauliflower starter with cashew sauce and the fig stuffed dumplings in onion sauce!

2023-12-09 17:50:46Ordered takeout. The two vegetarian dishes (chick peas and okra), the lamb curry, naan, and mango lassis were delicious. Castro Valley lacks good restaurants but this new location doesnt disappoint! I think its the best indian within the area (cv & tri-valley). I see complaints about portions and prices. Portions have been shrinking at many restaurants, so Im not at all surprised there. This place is pretty average size in terms of proportion, to be fair. Prices are on high end for sure for cv. But I think the food is worth the price, considering its just minutes from home for me. I feel that cv neighbors complain too much about high prices but you get what you paid for. There are cheaper restaurants but its below average, so is it really worth it? I hope restaurant qualities improve in the area - Im happy to pay the premium for good food. We will definitely go back to try more.

2023-11-20 14:59:31We had lunch last Saturday. Loved the service and the food. The buffet had familiar dishes with a couple of exceptions (Jalebi, Goat curry, cauliflower pakoras).I absolutely recommend this place and we will be going back again...

2023-10-30 02:06:28Very good food. Tastes like Amber in SF (probably because the chef came from there). Slightly higher prices and slightly smaller portions than the operation that preceded it, but well worth it. This place is much better than your average Indian joint. I wish them much success!

2023-10-22 22:44:19Brand new restaurant (only 3 days young!). Excellent curries, excellent bhindi (okra) dry vegetarian. The tandoori chicken was delightful, and very lightly done. Being gluten-free, we didnt sample the roti or nan. But we did have outstanding Basmati rice (delicately scented with both cinnamon and cumin), and a wee bit of the Indian Mixed Pickle. Strange stuff under any circumstance, but it really works with the foods. Top shelf.

2023-10-29 00:45:31For those that are familiar with Aroma and are wondering about Phulkari, heres a brief summary of our experience.First things first: the food tastes good. Naans are less crispy/dry and a bit more chewy, which we liked a lot. Butterchicken is more creamy, which we liked too. They also got some more comfortable chairs in there, which we appreciate as well. However, to point out some key differences:- the prices seem to have increased by about 30-40% (lets say about $4-$5) per meal/dish, while the portion sizes seem to have decreased an equal amount of 30%-40%.- refills of your Chai (tea) are no longer free, and youll be charged about $4 for each cup.- the old staff has all been replaced with new staff member (which is just a factual observation and no judgment whether thats good or bad). The chef is already gone and the main server and host, that everyone knows from the Aroma era, will no longer be there after next week. Now, as mentioned at the beginning of this review, there is nothing wrong with the new ownership or the new chef, as everything still tastes fine. We will still go back here, although it wont be as often due to the combined price increases and portion size decreases. Just wanted to share some key observations for those that are considering to try out Phulkari; definitely check them out, but bring more cash and/or be prepared for a higher check (for less food) 😉
