This place is a total hidden gem for Awesome authentic Filipino food! Ive been working in the Hawthorne area for the last 5 years and just found this place a week ago sadly enough. Just like most of the comments here, dont let the small location and Aesthetics fool you! Not too many places offer great quality with enormous portions and competitively priced. They truly will let you sample everything before you decide to order. I ordered a 2 item combo and it was easily enough to feed 2 people or 3 with small appetites. Will definitely be coming back when Im craving the homeland food!
I figured it out. This food is made with love. And nothing taste better than love. Also its a cultural adventure, each time I learn something culturally about the Philippines. I am still trying to get there to take part in the all you can eat special. I especially like the buffet style so I can more of what I really like the most. Cant wait to get back there.
If you want to taste Filipino food you should try this place. When I was there, they were having some construction in their front area, so we had to go through the back door. The back door was little hard to find. Very few Parking spaces. Food was tasty. Price was great compare to the food amount. Staffs were friendly.
I ordered food for my nephew’s despedida party last July 13 I ordered kare kare pancit & everyone loves the food the owner is very friendly the price of their catering food is reasonable it’s delicious & fresh I definitely will order again for my future parties

I work in El Segundo and was craving some Filipino food on my way home from work. I Googled Filipino food near me and this place popped up. I got there at 3:45pm and the door was locked, but a woman came to the door and unlocked it for me. She said that they close at 4pm and that they were nearly out of everything. She showed me what little was left. There were catering trays for an order later that evening over the remains of the food cooked for that day. As she moved them over, more available dishes were seen. I picked their last Tortang Talong (an egg omelette with an eggplant in it). Then she uncovered the last of the chicken curry, and I selected that as well. I also got a large to go container of their pork sinigang. The prices were reasonable and the owner/staff was very courteous and personable. The food was delicious and the portions generous. I will be coming here again, but will have to call in my order earlier in the day before they run out of the good stuff; even though there were good stuff left, I didnt get the dishes I was craving for like Kare Kare (which I found out is only served on Thursdays. I was there on a Thursday, but the Kare Kare was long gone by then), and Beef Mechado. I hope more people frequent this establishment after around 4pm so they can expand their closing ours far after their 4pm closing time.
Very homey hole in the wall place for cafeteria style Filipino food. Very generous with samples - couldnt finish entrees and sample. Recommend the sisig and beef stew.
As a Filipino, I always find myself overly critical of eateries that sell food from my culture. It’s just how we are, food will always be compared to our own family recipes. Pick Your Plate made me wish my family had these recipes! Their sisig and bistek were some of the best that I’ve ever had! Now I always look forward to coming here!
Best Filipino food Ive had since leaving the SF Bay. Tastes homemade! I went in not very hungry and hoping to pick up some lumpia. After tasting a few things, I had to buy everything I tasted cause it was all just so delicious.The service was also akin to walking into your aunties kitchen. Claire is gonna do you right. Go see her!
First time here and met the owner and daughter. They made you feel welcome as soon as we came in. All the food looks so delicious but the lechon was super amazing!! Cant wait to try their Silog special on Monday! I totally recommend this place.

Initially we were thrown off by the atmosphere and vibe. If thats you, come anyway! This was our first introduction to Philippino food and we loved it! Tita here cooks all the food herself. Its always fresh and the meats are super tender and delicious. The bang for your buck is unbelievable! Highly highly recommend

Would have been higher if not for the cockroach we killed near the buffet (on the floor). Food was alright. I thought it was a bit greasy.None of the food was labelled in the buffet so I have no idea in general what I ate, which I usually dont mind at a buffet, though here it would have been nice.I never eat Filipino food so Im no expert, but Id give the food overall an average rating. Some items were better than others.

Im a Wounded Warrior that got Retired from the Army due to injuries I sustained in Iraq twice. If your wondering why Im saying this is because i was a Staff Sergeant Promotable to Sergeant First Class which is similar to a Supervisor promotable to Manager but not only do we train our soldiers (Employee) on there job but to also prepare them for the worst (War) and i find this to be really disturbing not only to me but to other customers as well. Im working for Washington Traffic Patrol and I was around the area and I was starving so I looked online for the nearest Filipino restaurant when I first saw this restaurant and ratings was a 5 star. Been in the US for 15+ years and went to different Filipino restaurant in different states. so I decided to try the food there. This is one thing I can say, when I first arrive to the restaurant I was greeted by Claire and her customer service was outstanding. I ask to taste variety food and she never once gave me attitude. The amount of food I was served was more then other Filipino Restaurant Ive been to. So from now on Ill always come to restaurant and recommend family and friends to come here. So if you want to make your money worth it and Recieve outstanding customer service then if I were you come by here.

Claire is very welcoming, introducing the food and letting you sample it...may serve you unexpected taste of a new dish, free fruits or some fresh fruit juices of a typical filipino meal. You cant help but notice the warmth and hospitality Filipinos are famous for...it is like visiting a family in the Philippines for the first time, guiding you and making you feel at home. A mom and pop operation but excemplary service not to undermine the great food which is not limited to filipino dish but international dishes tried and tested. These restaurant deserve a visit...as for me, i am hooked. Now a regular in this restaurant and i am still surprised at the same warm reception and new food variety. They have great food and variety too. Special buffet on the weekend not just phillipino food also pastas and fried chicken. There chefs specialize on all types of foods. This place is a hidden gem in the Southbay! You can feel the love from Tita Clair as soon as you walk in. You can taste the love in the food! The food reminds me of my mom’s home-made cooking! Some dishes bring back memories of my visits to the Philippines! I have to eat here at least once a week, especially Gumbo Wednesday’s, Lechon Thursday’s and Eat all you Can Friday’s! Carinderia style dining! Food by the weight or order fresh from the menu. Check it out, you won’t be disappointed.

I had the sinigang and the flavor was bland. The fried tilapia was not crispy. Staff was really nice and their prices is very reasonable.
Claire was awesome and so was the food.The buffet had just been ravaged by a large party when we got there and the staff was exceptional in restocking it quickly with more deliciousness.Claire supplied us with some samples while we waited soooo extra yummy.
We just had a wonderful experience today. It was our golden anniversary and we had around 100 people attending. Claire and Roger catering service served our food. It was a great hit to everyone! We heard a lot of nice compliments from our visitors on how delicious everything was. We ordered Cebuchon, sisig, beefsteak, pinakbit, beef lingua, pesto pasta with seafood, sweet and sour tuna, pork bbq, teriyaki chicken, pansit bihon, spring salad, fruit salad and buko pandan. I am visiting la from newyork, then i found this restaurant on google, OMG!!!! Their Filipino food, kare kare, crispy Pata, pinakbet ARE THE BEST! actually the word DELICIOUS is UNDERSTATEMENT!The owners are so passionate of what they do. They love cooking and i feel the love and passion in what they do. Since all my orders are freshly cooked, ate Claire gave me some siningang soup first while waiting for my orders and it was so good! I met good customers too who drove me around the city for free !!I got a call from ate Claire when i got back in the hotel because i forgot my credit card, they personally delivered it in my hotel and brought me some palabok and karioka!!! So good!!I went back again a week after before i go back in New YorkI love these people and will definitely go back!
The family are great people. The food is homemade. They specialize in filipino food and also serve gumbo, fried chicken, sandwiches, salads, prime salad, etc. They also catered our wedding reception. On a scale of 1 to 10, theyre a 12!

This place saved my day! I had a party of 10 people today. I ordered 4 kinds of food 2 days ahead, pick them up yesterday, then just warm them up today - kare -kare, boneless bangus, pakbit and dinuguan. Food was a hit! Everyone loves it especially the kare kare!This is the easiest way to enjoy your party, dont cook, just order from Pick a Plate, and you will have time to entertain your visitors instead of getting busy in the kitchen. The owner, Claire, is very nice and accommodating!

The food wasn’t to bad. Not many selections. But my biggest issue is that this place is so filthy.
Pick you plate and walk away. Food is decent but the ambiance is not good for dine in. Very old construction with very few tables and smells bad.

2023-11-14 07:48:46This was an accidental fine. Ive always wanted to actually have someones grandmother make me some Filipino food. Well I actually found a place this lady that runs this place. The food is delicious. Its what I imagined and then some and they do a roasted pork on them Thursday. The only issue that I have is that they dont stay open later than 4:00. Its 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. but its well worth the effort to get there and try the food. Its very very very good. Sorry no photos. Perhaps next time 🐱

The portions they give are a good amount for the price and your stomach will thank you for being fed.The problem here is the taste. Though nothing is greasy or fattening, you are left unsatisfied. Bland would be an accurate description of the food and it’s not close to authentic Filipino. They have catered their options to an American palette. Many items have the same flavor as if they are using the same mixture of ingredients on everything and it’s ends up bland because there is hardly any seasoning there.

2023-11-18 02:33:09First of all, if you arent familiar with a mom and pop Filipino restaurant shop that you would find in the small province of the Philippines, youre probably not going to be thrilled by the appearance. This is a total hole in the wall. The ideal definition of what people say a hole in the wall would be. Its clean. Its just not fancy.You pay for the food and the family is so sweet. Theyll let you sample too.This is not the type of place you want to bring vegan friends to. Most the dishes are meaty. Though sometimes theyll have a couple of vegetable options.Only thing to not be surprised about is some days they can run out of food pretty quickly or have a huge line depending if they get hit by huge bum rush of different huge groups of people. And then some days you walk in and its like totally empty. And then while youre eating all the 30 people show up lol. Most popular days there are Thursdays because thats lechon day. I like Fridays because sometimes they have Flipspag and fried chicken.And its not like your typical restaurant with as a menu you look at in order. You literally check their Facebook page every morning and see what theyve got because they cook everything fresh that morning. Anyone that says this isnt authentic. Filipino food is one of two things. A hater or they actually really dont know what Filipino food is. And for the people that flat out say this place is bland, I would say those are fake too because if anything I have to use less sauce or portion out what I eat because it is extremely flavorful. At times. The people say its not greasy or fatty? They have lechon on Fridays lol? Theyve got beefsteak with onions or sisig. Literally. Just look at the pictures everyone takes. For your first visit, if you plan on eating there I would say just come by yourself or go with a friend. The cater to 2 menus. The Filipino of course and a western menu. Their fillet & chicken cordon bleu.. so good. The buffet is mostly Filipino.Theyre being bulk of the businesses catering so if they are catering that day, theyll usually make an extra batch of that dish and have is an option for the buffet and sometimes you get really surprised because you never knew they offered it. Lol. Weve been coming here since the first few months opening and I can still walk in once in a while in the experience a new dish that I never knew that they could cook lol.My folks are Filipino and weve brought so many of our relatives from our of town here from all over the US and back in the P.I. when they visit. They all love this place.

Its crispy, moist, and flavorful.They also offer an extensive catering menu. Weve ordered from pick your plate for work functions almost monthly and they are fantastic! Everyone always asks where we order from.Reasonable prices, great food, generous portions, and fantastic service. Ive been a loyal customer for 6+ years now and the food is consistently good.

Its always up to personal preference which version a person might prefer, but the one thing I think they do unquestionably better than any other version of the thing Ive seen is pork belly lechon. The meat is juicer than Tommy DiNic at Philidelphias Reading Terminal Market. The skin is so crispy I actually prefer it to Peking duck. There is enough fat left over to grease the gears of an M1 Abrams tank. Its fantastic.Pick your Plate is a hole in the wall establishment that makes you feel like youve teleported back in time to an old style taqueria on the edge of Inglewood in the days before air conditioning. It is sublimely authentic to a degree you just dont see anymore especially post pandemic, and the establishment absolutely makes no efforts to suggest theyre anything but just a small cafeteria style eatery serving authentic Filipino food.As far as I can surmise this place has a loyal cult following. The owners know the names of the customers, people bring their own Tupperware to take food to go. Strangers are talking religiously and competitively to each other about how much of this food they can eat. Apparently the winner had a catering event where they bought 5 pounds for every person. There was no leftovers.The prices are surprisingly good, almost r pre pandemic compared to other establishments and the portions are generous. Hell even the serving of rice is significantly larger than the equivalent serving at any Asian franchise in the area.And the staff is extremely friendly, almost offputtingly so for someone as introverted as I am. They are helpful and gregarious and full of smiles and friendliness. They seem like they enjoy their work and their positivity is infectious, which is very Filipino in my book.It truly was a weirdly unique experience with some of the best food Ive ever had.And to be clear, its not going to be for everyone. Vegans beware, I dont think I saw a single vegetable the entire time I was here and the food is as unhealthy as it is delicious. But if you know what youre getting into, I would definitely recommend this place.Lechon is Thursdays only. I plan on bringing some of my Filipino coworkers here to get their opinion of this place.

Immediately walked in, and the woman behind the counter asked me if this was my first time eating Filipino food. I excitedly said yes and she proceeded to let me sample just about everything, and I was absolutely floored by how homey and rich everything tasted. The broth in particular actually cured my friends stomach! After picking what I wanted to take, she kept loading me up with food and sweetly laughed and said were gonna make sure you get the full Filipino experience here.Everytime I come to LA, im taking whoever Im with to this location. Some tables inside.Set-up is like a buffet table. Get your food, and they will weigh it at the end. Soup broth is not weighed. You may add the soup after your food is weighed. I had white rice, noodles, kare-kare, and sinigang for less than $9.Very limited selection though. Food tastes decent.Service was really nice and explained the process.No lines. I was done quick.With the few selection, it wasnt worth the drive and traffic.Please give a thumbs up if this review helped you in anyway.Thanks for reading.
