My last night here in SoCal for business and was craving sushi that close to my hotel. I saw this spot and check it out. The staff was super friendly from the beginning and the vibe was fun.I ordered the Ponzu Roll and Nodoguro sushi that was on special. The sushi tasted fresh and was satisfied with it. I ordered a beer too and they didn’t charge me cause it was on the house. (I was joking in the beginning if my beer was free lol)Overall, come check this sushi spot if you are in town. It’s definitely on my list whenever I’m around the area again. Thanks to the staff and chef for the great experience!

Ponzu is such a welcoming and warm environment to eat at, I loved the sushi and the service. The portions are perfect, the fish is consistent, and theres a wide selection of menu items to choose from that are great. I went for yellowtail cut rolls and the super yellowtail sushi, which turned out delicious and made me order seconds. Im definitely coming back here again for another sushi experience!

Love this place! After eating at Ponzu I have not been able to have sushi anywhere else. I had the lollipop roll, a roll with no rice wrapped in cucumber, the halibut carpaccio was amazing and fresh. The surf and turf roll is highly recommend! I cannot remember the name of the roll my husband ordered pictured in the photo with my Lollipop roll 🥒

We had such a good dinner here. Everything we ordered was done very well, even the easy stuff like the cucumber salad and rainbow roll. They didn’t skimp out on fish with the special rolls either, we felt that we got our money’s worth.But the best part was the wagyu sushi, I ordered it thinking it would come raw, but it was lightly seared and served in a smoke chamber. Perfectly seasoned, delicious wagyu flavor, expensive but I will absolutely get it again next time.

I dont understand what the 4.6 star review is about. This is no 4.6 star restaurant. I tried the eel rice bowl and was very dissappointed. Too much rice and eel was fishy. I also tried the shrimp tempura and it was greasy and shrimp was the frozen kind. Not fresh. Id expect when paying $100+ for dinner for two, I would get freshly prepared shrimp tempura, not frozen Costco bought tempura. Sushi rolls were ok. But overpriced everything. Avoid this place if you are looking for authentic Japanese food. Come to this place for mediocre overpriced sushi rolls.

Had a great experience at the soft opening of the Ponzu sushi bar. First, the chef and hostess were very warm and welcoming. The layout is nice with a bar and plenty of table seating. Parking is easy too.Their menu is really elaborate with plenty of creations to pick from. My wife opted for the thousand island roll, which was beautifully presented with a chili dipping oil in the center of the plate which I had not seen before.As a vegetarian, I had a cucumber avocado roll, their vegetable roll, and their veggie tempura roll. Id recommend the vegetable roll of the three. It was beautifully presented with avocado on the outside that was unique. We also had their seaweed salad and their regular salad both of which were great.Finally, Id add the chef is accommodating for additions and substitutions to the menu.Glad to have a reliable sushi bar down the street now, will definitely be coming back.

The best sushi I have ever tasted. Ive was lucky to come across this placr when visiting from Australia. Its a must of youre a love of sushi.The staff are all polite and friendly and the atmosphere is really relaxing. This place is a hidden gem that I cant believe I missed out on for five years! The moment my boyfriend and I walked in, we were warmly welcomed by the chefs and wait staff.Sky, who I believe might be one of the owners, went above and beyond to ensure our satisfaction. His passion for consistency, quality, freshness, presentation, and creativity shone through.The Trust (omakase) experience was a highlight, with 10 pieces of sushi that were nothing short of perfection. Each bite was a culinary masterpiece.We also enjoyed the brussels sprouts chips, perfectly seasoned with truffle oil, sea salt, and parmesan, as well as the yellowtail carpaccio, bursting with flavor. The baked green mussels were also a standout, with a balanced sauce and complementing rice.Ponzu delivered a memorable and fun first experience. ARE YOU KIDDING ME??I was craving for really good sushi for my Bday dinner with family so l chose this restaurant based on review .I never felt so cheated . They should be ashamed of selling Costco frozen shrimp tempura as their battered tempura.Charging 3,pieces of Costco frozen shrimps w/ a piece of broccoli and 3 slices of squash tempura fried with over used oil( too greasy n you can taste the old oil ) for $16 as a mixed tempura ??Sashimi plate $70, expected fresher n better quality .Rolls were ok if you like so much rice and mayos n your rolls .If you are looking for over priced fusion style n refried mega store bought frozen foods then it’s a place to go but if you are looking for an authentic Japanese restaurant w/ quality then this is the last place to go.😖😡😨 the worst $ 200 dinner l ever had in my life . I have one star b/c that’s the lowest option l could give .I can’t believe this place have over 4 stars .

My husband and I came with our 10 month old, and we were super impressed, not only by the food, but also with how attentive our server was, especially to the needs of our son. It’s hard going out to eat with a baby, and the server and all the other employees did their best to make sure our son was happy too (something that’s kind of rare at restaurants). The food was amazing, and their happy hour is fantastic. I think this might be our new go-to sushi place!

Love it! Will definitely be back again!We sat at the sushi bar and took suggestions from Chef Sky on what was fresh. We enjoyed everything he suggested! We had yellowtail carpaccio (spicy - if youre into that), blue fin tuna carpaccio (also spicy and so, so good!), golden eye snapper sushi, a salmon skin hand roll, and uni sushi. The uni was some of the freshest weve ever had (not fishy or gross in the least!).We also had hot green tea (nice, big mug and piping hot!) and miso soups. I think the green tea should be free at a sushi bar and the miso soup was a little too salty/seasoned for my taste but all in all definitely will be back.The vibe was good. There were a couple of larger parties with kids and it was calm and quiet. Service was speedy.

Mind-blowing sushi! We tried Ponzu roll, Are you kidding me roll, baked roll with langostino (the name of which escapes me) and Orange hill roll if I remember the name correctly. Every roll had such a unique combination of flavors, we kept getting surprised by each dish. They know how to embellish their fresh fish with the best sauce combinations.Service was also fantastic.Too bad they are a little far away and we wont be able to come every week. Hopefully Ponzu sushi opens another location somewhere in south county.

Simply put, the best sushi Ive ever had. I had the ponzu roll which literally melts in your mouth with the best flavor. I used to think most sushi places were the same as long as the fish was fresh. Easily 2 or 3 times the price of all other nearby sushi joints, but the taste itself about the same if not more disappointing. Crispy rice was overdone, seaweed salad tasted off, even the soy sauce tasted like they added mirin, and way too much of it.Everything tasted mid.

Really confused how this place is so highly rated… came on a Saturday night, wasn’t that busy, but the sushi was pretty below average but way above average prices. The fish quality on the nigiri was not good, and I even tried a cooked roll and the tempura was soggy and just nothing tasted fresh. Also, the rice was just plain, definitely unseasoned and bland. The servers were pretty nice but it took awhile to get food, and they messed up the order twice. Not coming back…

Artful, delicious, a new favorite. I came here with no expectations and they blew me away. The flavor profiles of their rolls and other specialty foods seriously beat out my other top sushi favorites. Their rolls are unique, the quality of the fish is incredible, and they really take you on a flavor journey. The Snowflake roll actually gives a crisp, cool feel on the tongue, the oyster shooter, is an amazing flavor explosion, and the Tinkerbell is one of the best handrolls. Give this place a try if you havent already, you wont regret it.

This is the best sushi place/restaurant in Orange County. Look no further than Sushi Ponzu for highly quality sushi and 5 star experience. I come here weekly sometimes twice a week. I am always taken care of and the food is always on point. I constantly look forward to going back. Went here for Sunday night dinner. Got seated within 5 minutes however it did take some time for the waiter to bring us water and take our order. Hands down the best sushi dining experience I have ever had in my life. The atmosphere is simultaneously metro and comfortable. The chefs were talking to us and joking around with us while they prepared our order. The flavors and dedication to presentation were divine and out of this world. After we finished our meal the chefs offered us something special they created for us. It was the most delicious thing I have ever had the privilege to put in my mouth. Words cannot describe the heaven contained in every microfiber of whatever they served us.

New favorite sushi place in orange county! Super friendly service, and extremely amazing rolls. We got the garlic edamame (which was delicious with the fried garlic), the Galaxy roll (absolutely amazing, alternate to baked salmon roll but way better), rainbow roll (standard, the most boring of what we got but still good), a yellowtail scallion cut roll (extremely tasty fish), the Ponzu roll (their most popular, extremely unique, delicious, and definitely worth the try!), and the tempura ice cream (definitely the perfect end to the experience). I will definitely be coming back and trying more of their extensive and reasonably priced menu.

Ponzu sushi is always very good, however we were discriminated during our last visit. We put our name down on the waitlist, party of four total, two adults & two kids. The waitress went ahead and sat down two parties before us even though they arrived after us. One party was just two people who sat at the bar, which is understandable, however the other party that arrived AFTER us and ALSO put their name on the list sat down at a four seat table. This is seriously ridiculous and shameful, we were clearly discriminated, no doubt about it…..so we came to get our sushi at Ami Sushi down the street which is ALWAYS delicious, quite a bit cheaper and they know how to make you feel welcome. We do not plan on visiting Ponzu again, this is super disrespectful and unacceptable.

UPDATE: what a bummer, their quality in food deteriorated. We used to buy from here at least once a week but haven’t in months. The last 4 chicken bento boxes we got, the chicken was straight rubber! Called and spoke to them about it but they didn’t care. I get it, they aren’t a chicken place but it used to be SO GOOD and now whoever is heating it up is defrosting it in a microwave. You can tell because it’s so tough you can’t even tear the chicken apart. It’s a par-cooked chicken so when they defrost so quick like that in the microwave, it’s not even editable. Apparently management doesn’t care if they lose their neighborhood business.OLD REVIEW: We just absolutely love this place. We live in the neighborhood and order at least once a week. Their bento boxes are the best. Comes with fresh salad, gyoza, sushi, chicken etc SO YUMMY!! Never disappoints us. I wouldn’t recommend the beef bento box however beef is not the best option here.Friendly service and have great lunch specials during the week. Call in and take home, perfect take out packages to enjoy your meal.Why bother going to fast food. I’m from out of town and decided to go here based on positive reviews. I ordered miso soup, edamame, two Alaska rolls, and a Rainbow roll. The salmon in the Alaska rolls was cooked, being the first time I’ve tried it prepared that way, and while different, was still excellent. Rainbow rolls are my favorite, and theirs didn’t disappoint. The miso soup was some the best I’ve ever had. Above all, the service from the sushi chefs was top notch, and at the end of our meal, our party was given a special, bite-sized treat and instructed not to use soy sauce. It was, objectively, the best tasting bite of food I have ever taken in my life. The marriage of flavors was beyond my own ability to describe, and in the moment, I actually laughed at how incredible it taste. 10/10, must eat if you are anywhere in the area and love sushi and/or Japanese cuisine.

This place has the quality and service you would expect from a high end Newport Beach restaurant. The food was fantastic - we had some sort of garlic edamame - a really good appetizer. They thought of the little things that make for good service and they were attentive to the proper degree. The presentation of the plates were first class. This is our go-to sushi place and my wife is rather picky with restaurants. The rolls are excellent and theres a ton of them to choose from. The yakisoba is the best Ive had outside of Japan. The chefs are friendly and the wait staff provides excellent service, which is becoming more rare these days. It can get busy but weve never waited more than a few minutes for a table. Highly recommended!

One of my new favorite sushi spots in Orange County. A friend of mine recommended this place to me after he went two nights on a row. Quality is to notch. Atmosphere is wonderful. I do not like this place. My family walked in about 6:50 pm. I ordered sake, tea, ramen, sashimi and roll(for kids). At 7:30, I only received sake and ramen. When I asked waiter for our remaining food, they still telling me I had to wait 10 mins. This is poorly managed.
