Best customer service experience I’ve ever had at a Mexican restaurant no lie !!The food was amazing too I customized my 4 birria and chicken tacos they were hella bomb !! Not expensive at all very good prices also if you are into coffee to keep you up and going for the rest of the day they have this SEA SALT CARMEL VANILLA CAPPUCCINO THAT is absolutely delightful they also offer fresh chips homemade salsa and a variety of churros made to order .Bottom line if you’re looking for a good place to take your family to breakfast,lunch, or dinner they will definitely accommodate your guest and make your time there feel very welcoming!! ….100% recommended

I order a grilled chicken burrito paid extra for everything on it. I got home nothing but beans the outside burn $40 for 3 burrito which is fine but they all looked like this. I call and it’s impossible to get through

A Very friendly place. Reasonable pricing, and great service. I had the tamale combo with pastor and steak. The pastor was ok, but the steak was awesome!My son had shrimp tacos and really liked them. I highly recommend the churros, which are fantastic.Everyone liked the salsa.Overall this is a nice place, and we will be back.

Ordered a Protein Bowl with Chile Verde and a Super Burrito with Chile Verde. It looked like they had leftover Chile Verde that they scraped the bottom of the pot to put into our dishes. There was barely discernible pork bits in the “protein” bowl and the super burrito basically melted from all the verde liquid and other ingredients but no pork. Will never return to this place that I heard was so reputable.

I ordered online for my daughter and I while we were out for a walk. A shrimp burrito for her and a chicken burrito for me with a side order of rice. It was ready to go when we arrived, and the lady at the counter was extremely nice. We took it home and found everything was delicious. The price was fair. Ive spent more elsewhere and been far less satisfied.

Service was great. The cashier recommended the cheesecake and flan. Both desserts were good. However the main food was not. The nachos were had lumps of salt, so every few bites, I would taste a lump of extra salt. The meat was over cooked. We suspect because it was at the end of the day and the meat was sitting out all day, dried up and turned black. The rice was stale probably for the same reason as the meat.

So let me preference this by saying I should have told them I was a pupusa connoisseur. This small place boast a nice comfortable atmosphere and Risa is a real sweetheart.I ordered 1 pork pupusa way over priced and the Chilli Verde meal.The pupusa was incorrectly made and some kind of pork sauce was on the bottom. A pupusa should be stuffed. The curtido was less than a fork full and pasty. Still the flavors were good overall.Chilli Verde can be very subject and how the meat is cut can make a difference. In this case the meat was cut a little too fine for my taste but understandable with the price of beef.The plate was portioned out well and had plenty of flavors to enjoy and even talk about.I cannot with true honest recommend this place over others I have visited. I can say that it is 2 cuts above a fast food restaurant.But, dont take my word for it stop and try some of the other dishes and share your thought.

I chose machaca plate--it was delicious! The beans and rice were well made. The machaca beef and eggs/cheese tasty! Served nice and warm and the tortillas were fresh :)I liked the service too-- i recall the cashier/server was Ellie (or perhaps Ella). She was friendly and answered questions and even gave us a brief history of the restaurant--2 former Oakland locationd and now this Castro Valley place-- and her father actually prepared seasoned and plated my machaca plate!My partner is pescatarian so more fish/seafood options would be nice.Otherwise, we enjoyed the whole dining Portales experience--very good food and service at Portales!Ill definitely return and try more of the good food next time Im in downtown Castro Valley!!! -----Keep up the good work and courteous service!Allan Bodhi Reyes

The food....well I wish I would have liked it more, its really 3.5 star food but since there is no half, I bumped it to 4 for the service.I love Mexican food and Ive never had as bad asada as I did here. It was shredded and tasted like ground beef. My sister had the chicken and it tasted good so maybe it was just the asada but I wouldnt recommend the asada. 2 star asada, 4 star for anything else and the service.

This was an unexpected but fantastic find in Castro Valley. Warm, crispy chips, spicy salsa, and seasoned al pastor made for a great meal. Man I wish I could give this place an even higher rating. One of the best places in Castro Valley for sure. Been going here for years and its never failed to satisfy me. One of the best taquerias in the Bay Area besides Carmelitas in Union City! I got an an enchiladas plate from here, it tasted amazing, came with chips, and sauces, and not overpriced! You get great portions here even though the prices are cheaper than a regular sit in restaurant.The woman working here spoke perfect English, was polite, and she was nice enough to bring the food outside, since we had to wait outside and even remembered everyones order. Great customer service!There is parking in the rear if you want to access this place.
