I Absolutely love this resturant. Me and my family have been going here for a long time. The owner is so sweet and so nice, she even has some of my familys pictures inside. Also the food is AMAZING the tempura is so crispy and so good, the beef and the chicken are so tender and juicy, the rice is a great consistency and it tastes amazing with ranch. Totally recommend if you want good food and a place to make memories.❤

OMG. We have been coming here for years since our children were little now they bring their children. I totally love the place it is small the food is great and grandma is always ready to come and talk with or celebrate your birthday with you I recommend Amachies if you have not tried it.
Got the Teri Chicken Shortrib combo plate. The food is excellent but portions are on the small side. I could easily eat 3 plates.
We had dinner here April 2021. We sat outside under the tent. There is a ton of space. The kids loved running around and we were able to keep an eye on them while they play. We ordered a family dinner with chicken teriyaki, beef, miso soup, salad (with ranch dressing), temura, fruit and rice. It was a solid meal for about $27. We were satisfied (2 adults and 2 kids under 2).The owner and multiple employee checked in on us multiple times throughout the meal. They loved on the kids and made them smile.The food is tasty and the atmosphere is welcoming. Thats what gets you 5 stars. Also, all bellies full for $27.
Small portion and small price, if you want to have light lunch or something, this place is strongly recommended. I personally dont like to go some restaurant gave me lots of food to ate and wast after meal and price included with the wasted leftover. This place has a lot of parking near and many interest place on the street. Good family owned style restaurant.
I just love this place i work walking distance. Its very good food and the staff their is so nice and sweet. The owner is a nice old lady that has a heart. For everyone that walks in her restaurant
This little gem is hidden in Uptown Whittier. A family business, its not overly glamorous. It is however warm and inviting. The food is homemade and the rice is bottomless. Their sukiyaki is my all time favorite. Their tonkatsu is its tender and crisp. The green tea soda is a refreshing surprise.

The food experience was not good at all. The rice was mushy, the tea weak, the beef was dry so the overall rating wound be 1 or 2. Has been better in the past so I was dusappointed tonight.

My family and I have been coming here since I was a child. Now my girlfriend and I frequent Amachi if were feeling sit-down Japanese. We usually get the Family Combination of chicken & beef teriyaki with tempura. The teriyaki is very tasty, it comes with a salad (people gripe about the ranch dressing since its a Japanese restaurant, but we like it) and fruit.This place is QUICK, cheap, and honestly a hidden gem in Uptown Whittier. Its down a side street by an alley. The staff is super friendly and though its typically busy for dinner, you can usually find a table without a wait or at most, a short one.

Amachi is a japanese restaurant in uptown whittier. the service is quite good. it is run by a japanese family so they are very friendly (especially to newcomers who have never tried japanese food). the serving sizes and prices are decent. its a great place to go out with your family, although their restaurant is small and their operating hours are not as long as you may like (open until like 5 in the afternoon).

This is a Japanese restaurant run by my grandmother!Chicken teriyaki, which cannot be tasted in Japan, is so delicious that you can eat it even if you are full.It is a place that is not often visited by tourists, but there are cafes and movie theaters in this town, and time flows slowly, making it a very comfortable town.

2023-08-22 06:25:52The outside looks plain but once you get inside its a Very wonderful old school family restaurant atmosphere. Loved the place and the tempura was delicious. Staff is very friendly and the menu options well organized. Hardest part is picking only one! Ill be back!

2023-10-17 09:33:28Ordered 4 chicken tempura dinners usually shrimp and chicken are included however I may have said it wrong so ate more vegetarian dinner that day, good thing is payed approx 1/2 what it usually cost which is still very reasonable for all the good food one gets, their soup is the bomb!

Its a small, quaint, family style restaurant, much like like those I encountered as a teacher in Japan.2. It is highly recognized within the Whittier community.3. The prices have always been respectable. A top quality meal for around the same price as many fast food burger meals.4. The food is consistently flavorful and traditional American Japanese food.5. The hosts have always been friendly.6. Though the menu doesnt change much, and is more limited than you might find at other commercially owned Japanese restaurants, the selection is really good.7. I ate here several times a month with my buddy for years.8. Ive eaten Japanese food from restaurants all across Japan, and here in LA. County, and though it can be a bit busy, its small and hidden away off the street, and they have strange hours, its still my favorite. Its one of those places I hesitate reviewing, because the selfish side of me would rather have fewer people know about it.PARKING:Amachi is located off Green Street in a little side pavilion beside Mimos Cafe. You can not see it from the street.Parking is in the rear across from Amachi where a little alley passes. You access the city parking from Comstock Avenue.UNUSUAL HOURS:They are closed on Monday and Tuesday. Wednesday and Thursday they are open for lunch, then close and reopen a few hours later for dinner. Friday to Sunday they are only open for dinner.

2023-08-30 02:40:03This place has amazing food, but their hours of operation are terrible. I have tried to go many times and have not been able to eat there. One time I even called ahead to make sure they were open. When we got there we were told they were closed. Super disappointed.

2020-10-30 20:12:26Amachi Restaurant oh how I truly enjoy visiting you. I crave your delicious entrees that consist of freshly battered Veggie/Shrimp tempura to the freshly sliced Tuna sashimi. Along with every combo comes an endless rice bowl (youll be surprise just how much rice you can consume). I usually start my dinner off with an order of the pork dumpling along with a order of sashimi. For my main course my main go to is the short ribs and tempura combo. From the rice to the salad all the way down to the complementary miso soup, you can taste the traditional Japanese flavors. Thank God there is a place that exist like this literally a block away from home.Lastly my daughter loves it so much all she ever wants to eat!
