ROKKO Japanese Restaurant in Sunnyvale

We had an extremely disappointing experience at this Japanese food restaurant, making it easily the worst one weve ever visited. The food was excessively salty, and the Yakisoba ingredients were overly exaggerated. Additionally, every dish we ordered was soaked in excessive oil and salt, leaving us craving a refreshing break with some water, but none was provided throughout our meal. Even the fried food lacked the necessary dipping sauce, which was a major letdown. To make matters worse, despite the scorching weather outside, the air conditioner was not turned on inside the restaurant, making it unbearably stuffy and hot. As a result, our dining experience was far from enjoyable.

I was excited by the menu -- diverse offerings in multiple combinations. (like IHOP where you can order different configurations of eggs, starchy sides, etc.) However it turned out not to be such a good thing. The okonomiyaki was scarce with the seafood (1 scallop, 4 small pieces of squid) and packed full of cabbage and sauced up (tonkatsu + mayo). The fish rice bowl was attractive but not so special (missing su-shi seasoning?) The best dish was the steak don although perplexed by the shishito peppers + wasabi flavoring. Paying ~$20 for lunch, you could enjoy better Japanese food elsewhere.

1STARVery disappointed!+ Nice plate presentations- Pricey n SMALL portions!- Overall dishes are TOO sweet, TOO salty, LACKING aroma n flavors.- Sushi rice has got the texture but LACKING aroma, flavors n taste.- Sashimi is moist but LACKING flavors n taste. Too pricey for something that tastes like nothing!- Dish with pork has HARDLY any meat n cost too much!⚠️ Caution: men’s restroom faucet, HOT water is TOO HOT n will BURN your hands!

We enjoyed the hamachi carpaccio and tempura. The hamachi was a thicker cut and loaded with sliced green onions and tomatoes.However, we were slightly disappointed with the Deluxe Meshi. The menu said it would have crunchy skillet rice, which instead was just normal rice, not crispy nor crunchy.

My dining hall for Japanese food. Their rice dons are with great variety and tasty. (Yakiniku don, premium chirashi, deluxe meshi are my top favorites) Also the Combo set meals are delicious and can serve more than 1 person. The staff are all very friendly and are now greeting me with “welcome back :)” hope they can add more dishes !

An awesome Japanese spot in DT Sunnyvale!Portions are large and staff is friendly.I ordered #8 off of the Special Premium sets. It included tonkatsu, agedashi tofu, deluxe sashimi (10 pcs), and a clam miso soup! Tonkatsu was a bit soggy, but still good. Agedashi tofu was with firm tofu (I prefer soft tofu) but i was still made well. Deluxe sashimi was delicious! Clam miso soup was the only disappointing one since the clams had lots of sand in them and tasted a bit less fresh than the others.Portions are large, so the value is definitely there. Love the sets so you can try different variety of their options!Will definitely be back!Parking is a bit tough in the lot, so you may need to park farther away and walk over.Follow the adventure @shoyuthebest on IG!

The notion of draught, a typical Commifornia fallacy really sucks when waiters no longer refill your water proactively. You have to ask for it and I hate to ask for refill as I am the lazy type. So just do me a favor, refill my water so I can be happy to tip you.Service continues to be friendly although they dont come and ask you if everything is ok. Glad to see some staff were off masks and can finally breathe freely. There was this particular female waitress that I missed. She was so polite!Food was stellar!-------------------------Their combo plate with choice of two items is excellent with everything on point. The service is superb and very polite! The atmosphere is welcoming and relaxing. I love coming here for my Japanese cuisine craving. Highly recommended.

This restaurant is very efficient. You can get your order pretty soon. The staff are well trained and polite. The price is reasonable. Business is very busy. Highly recommend. Inside Sunnyvale downtown.

Chirashi is good, $24Katsu Curry - Tonkatsu is very crispy, curry is averageHokke - grill fish not what I think, ( soft )I prefer fish skin should crispy, will not order again

The food is good and fresh.It would be good if they could provide reduced salt soy sauce as an option. (Maybe they do, but its too late for me 🥲)I dont think this place is pricey, its very reasonable imo.
