This restaurant is a staple in the Bay Area and I am so excited they have come to So Cal!This is primarily a take out place but there are a few seats outside if you are not taking your meal to go. The restaurant is clean as are the tables outside. The decor is fun and inviting! The staff is super friendly and greets you as you walk through the door. They know their menu and are happy to help you order should you need suggestions.The food is soooo fresh and delicious. The cutlet and popcorn chicken are perfectly coated and crispy! Not dry at all!!! The original is also super tender! The side sauces make the dish extra yummy but totally not necessary as the meat has good flavor on its own. The rice…. Yes the rice… I can eat a whole bowl of that yummy rice!All in all a hit and I will be back!

We grabbed the original and the cutlet to go, and they were delicious! The chicken was so juicy and tender. The cutlet was crispy and paired amazingly with the sauce and pickled veggies. Will definitely visit again!

The food was soooo yummy! Went on grand opening weekend. We got the original, hat yai chicken (fried chicken) and the popcorn chickens. All the sauces were so yummy that came with each dish. Next time I want to try the cutlet. It was super busy and got our food pretty fast. Looking forward to coming back and trying the rest of their menu.

11/11/2023, Soft opening.Chicken and rice is alright but the soup is tasty. Note that the regular order doesnt come with the ginger scallion sauce, thats an extra add on.The setup is mostly as a take out place but theres ample tables/sitting in the plaza.

I tried the Original and it was pretty good. The chicken is very soft and the sauces (one soy-sauce based sauce and one mayo-Sriracha(?) sauce) were also very good. I visited the restaurant probably about 11:30am and there was already a wait line. I would recommend ordering online and picking up the food when its ready.

This is a delicious carryout spot that recently opened. The line was out the door and I am amazed at how quickly they got their food out. The service was friendly and you could tell that the owners cared about the food and their customers. Fyi i prefer the green sauce and would ask for it instead.

Eh nothing to rave about. We got the original and the popcorn larb chicken. Original chicken was chewy and a lil dry. Larb chicken didn’t come with rice so we got an extra rice which was very gummy/sticky. Popcorn chicken was dry and didn’t seem like it was freshly fried.Lolol and yes that’s my half eaten meal but the carrots were so thin and cucumbers were thick?

I love Hainan chicken and rice, and Rooster & Rice does a pretty good job of it. However, I prefer Chicken Meets Rice, which I get whenever I’m in NorCal. The rice at R&R had some unnecessary browning (poor technique) and the broth was on the salty side. Also, what’s the deal with charging for the ginger scallion sauce? CMR gives out all sauces for free. That said, a welcome addition to the Irvine lunch scene.

I used to eat here all the time in San Francisco, so I was excited to see a location open up near me after moving down to SoCal. Best lunch / dinner takeout spot! Simple, healthy, amazing sauces and large portions!

Very overpriced for dry chicken and rice. Came in around noon and got the original. Wait time was long but it was during lunch rush. Rice was very dry and even had burn marks. Chicken was flavorless and the only thing going for it was the sriracha sauce. Other sauces were not availiable.

Im so happy this location is open now! The food is DELICIOUS - really tender and juicy chicken, flavorful sauces, fluffy rice... its a simple, quick meal that tastes amazing but still feels healthy. I got the Original and the popcorn chicken and loved both. Also, parking is easy and the service was efficient and friendly, so basically I think Ive found my new regular lunch spot.Side note - They had a really cool balloon arch for their grand opening, and the inside in general is on point (clean, good decor, and the mural on the wall is soo cool how it incorporates all the big landmarks/symbols of OC). Seems random to mention these things, but I personally love when restaurants/businesses show this level of careful thought and fine-tuned detail because you just know that it translates over into the quality and care of their food, how they run the kitchen, etc. Cant wait to come back, Im craving their popcorn chicken again already!!

Was so excited to see rooster and rice come to SoCal, and I was not disappointed!!Their Thai-style khao mun gai reminds me of the classic hainanese chicken and rice - but better! With tons of options (e.g, riceless, vegetarian, breaded), I can see myself frequenting here for a guilt-free lunch. My favorite part is the chicken broth rice and flavorful sauces.My must try recommendation is their popcorn chicken! Its truly special and will surprise you with how addicting the lime-y seasoning is. Im also looking forward to trying their fried chicken skins next time.Swing by to discover your new favorite healthy lunch spot!
