Delicious salt and pepper chicken wings and noodles. The wings are unbelievably crispy and crunchy - video for evidence! They have set meals available too, we got Dinner A for $53 - which consists of the salt and pepper wings; beef and broccoli; fried noodles with beef, chicken, and shrimp, and fried rice - supposedly good for three, but you be the judge. The service is wonderful too. Pro-tip: ask for the chili oil if its not on the table.

Mongolian beef was terrible, should have been called Mongolian onions! The meat was chewy and tasted more like fat. The picture is all the onions we took out of the Mongolian beef just to get to the beef at the bottom. Salt and pepper chicken wings were great! Everything else was okay...

Food is great, servers and staff are friendly and accommodating. Some staff are more kind than others with helping train kids at registers. Go there at off peak hours and they will more than graciously, patiently wait if they are learning how to pay.

Dropped in for dinner from a recommendation to try the”crack wings” or the salt & pepper wings and they were too good with the chili oil. They paired perfectly when washed down with an ice cold Sapporo. This was my first time to San Diego and really enjoyed this establishment. Will definitely be back for more!

Have been going to this place for years and have been a loyal customer but today I received the rudest service from one of the cashiers. Called in my order at 1:42pm and unfortunately was not able to make it there until almost an hour later. Got there and the cashier says, Next time give us a time, you were supposed to pick this up at 2. I understand that I was a little late. However, this has never been a problem before. Most places dont have a problem with what time you pick up your food as long as you pick it up. Not to mention that I always leave this place a tip because I love this place so much but today they kindove have lost that loyalty.

Family came from Arizona were so looking forward to good food, our usual place was closed. Salt and pepper wings were only thing we liked:(. Salt and pepper shrimp was so salty we couldnt eat, my son was looking forward to BBQ pork:( it was so fatty and tasted like koolaid. I visited last night, guided by the good reviews and the amount of them, thinking I was going to have a great meal.Boy was I disappointed 😞 I feel like people are purposefully misleading in the reviews? I can honestly say this was just NOT GOOD.I got the beef with broccoli and we also got sizzling rice soup. Both were super disappointing.Beef broccoli had a weird texture, the meat was very off putting, almost slimy 🤢 I literally only ate the broccoli because I needed to eat.The sizzling rice had ingredients that you usually dont see in this soup, and the chicken in it tasted off as well, literally didnt eat any of that chicken (was kind of rubbery).The only thing that was really good was the chicken wings that they give you with your main dish. I honestly wouldnt ever come back, and I am going to start to seriously question peoples reviews. Maybe people like it so much because its kind of cheap? I dont know, I just wouldnt recommend.

Two things everyone should try here is the Salted Pepper Chicken Wings along with egg drop soup! The restaurant is clean and the staff are nice. If you go in at a busy time expect to for a table to open or you call for pick ups and reservations. All the plates are big! If you get two you could share with 4 people easily!As stated the Salted Pepper Chicken Wings are some of the best I have had in a restaurant in the United States. I would say the best wings I have had were the lemon grass pepper chicken wings in Thailand!

Salt and Pepper wings aint nothing to play with. Theyre juicy and tasty on every bite. Some might say bit too dry and overcooked, but it hits the spot. Definitely need a drink or two if youre going deep on them wings. Service was fast too, less than 30 seconds, from paying to receiving the wings. 12 wings for about $16ishDefinitely worth it.

I got take out for the family. I had been here a few times before. This place use to be the best in SD, but this last visit was definitely not. Either they hired someone new or the chef is under budget cut pressure. I ordered Kung pow chicken. There was significantly more white onions than chicken and no pow! Nobody wanted to finish it! Very unusual! Also ordered Salt n Pepper chicken wings, but you forgot the pepper! And, Apparently I got an extra fried rice that I paid for, I didnt order that! Orange chicken was ok, but nothing like the last few visits in the past! What happened?! Inflation?! But youre prices are up too! $58 and disappointed for this 50 min round trip! Use to be worth it. My friend ordered a chow main from here that had shrimp, chicken and beef. She gave some to my 3 year old son on Saturday while babysitting him. When I came home three and half hours later he was throwing up with a high fever turns out he got food poisoning after multiple days of high fevers and a very high emergency room bill! Absolutely not worth it! Wouldn’t recommend to anyone.

My all time favorite chinese resto. We go here alot esp if we crave for calamari. They used to have the best hot and sour soup, now its just ok, but other than that they have good food. The Wings! You know the instant you enter, the smell tells you about a busy kitchin producing flavors. The huge trays of wings coming out of the kitchen for take away shows a late afternoon prep for partys was in gear. Tables were busy at 430 and folks were waiting outside for togo items.Even so, the order was delivered quickly and correctI got the wing combo order wing rice and egg rolls. The wings were excellent. Large and meaty, the skin was beautifully crisp and remained so for a drive home and slow dinner. Truly the sign of excellent kitchen skill.I would have like a little more heat in the wing, but I cannot fault that too much. It might be because I am not from California or I don’t know but for me if you are from the east coast or at least from Florida these chicken wings are a must have when you come to San Diego. Go for the food, not the service. They forgot about 1 entree, and our waitress NEVER came back to check on us. No refills, take out boxes, not even to give us the check or take the payment. Our family has relied on Royal Mandarin for various types of food trays for decades!! Theyve always been friendly and professional with quality food and service. This time around, there was some slight confusion with our order size but, they were quick to correct our order of soft noodles. That service was f***ing fast! Ordered the combi fried rice, sauteed beef, sweet and sour chicken, s&p wings, crispy fried saucy noodles, and a thai tea and all that came out in less than 10mins! Like all of it! Wings and noodles were the best! Portions were huge, me and the wife took the leftovers home and ate them for about 3 or 4 more meals.

Ive been coming here for years. My favorite dish is the salt n pepper wings, fish or shrimp. Perfect for superbowl or catering events. Just make sure and remind them to give you rice on to go orders they always seems to forget. Other than that all their food selections are good and they serve you pretty fast. There was slow service, and I had waited almost 30 minutes to get my food. The little fish balls someone I had ate with were a bit overcooked. Before we got our food someone came in after us, but they were served first. The people who were walking around didnt notice that the person whom I was eating with was calling for their attention. They were moving really fast. The food I had gotten was okay (shrimp fried rice). The shrimp tasted weird to me (dont worry, Im just not that big a fan of shrimp in generall. I just wanted to see what this tasted like). Unfortunately, they didnt get a tip.

Worst Chinese food I’ve ever had. I ordered Kung pow chicken. It had a gooey orange sauce that was tasteless and the chicken seemed slimy. I t took two bites and couldn’t eat it. When I asked to have it taken off my bill the waitress said no, “you order, you pay.” I didn’t take it home and paid $20 for something I couldn’t eat.

This place won best Chinese food in san diego on a radio station poll on Facebook. I was excited to try it and horribly disappointed when we did. It was $16.95 for a platter. I ordered chicken fried rice which came with 2 salt and pepper wings (one of my favorites usually) And an egg roll. Everything was just plain awful. I pulled all of the nasty skin off and tried to eat the meat. The rice was burnt and dry. I actually put a bite in my mouth and it was SO BAD that I (a grown woman) spit it out!!!! I didnt eat a single bite of it. And I wont be back. You should really think twice about eating here. Im seriously confused about ANY 5 star reviews. If zero stars was an option that would be my rating.

I just tried ordering a large order spending close to $300 and the guy that took my order was short in response and rude. I realized I forgot to ask about the white rice that comes with the order. I called back to confirm the entree dishes include that and they told me it doesn’t but I can place a full order of white rice on the side. I asked if they can include that to the order and they said no. So I understood they didn’t want to include it and I asked about the dishes it comes with and they said no. I mentioned it shows on the menu the entrees come with it and they said it’s wrong and I’d have to pay. She tried to tell me I was at the wrong website and when I confirmed the url she just hung up. Royal Mandarin is definitely losing its charm. Theyve built a strong reputation on their salt and pepper chicken wings. But the last couple of years the quality has gone down. A lot of times the wings are really dry and overcooked. My favorite is the salt and pepper fish fillets. I bought some yesterday and the prices have pretty much doubled in a short period Of time. the flavor is still as good as ever but $14 is a little too much to pay for something that used to be six. And it wasnt that long. Ive been going there since I was a kid but I dont think Ill be returning.I think their overpriced and theyre getting a little greedy. The customer service isnt even what it used to be. the salt and pepper chicken wings as well as the fish fillets are not worth what they are charging now. There are better options.

My family has been coming here for decades. Even though the food price has gone up, it is still a good deal. Lunch specials have a good flavor to them and they give out really generous portions. Their hot and sour soup is easily the best in all of San Diego. Weve gone here enough that we know the waitresses, and they always give us good service. Its gone through a remodel so the place looks very clean and new.

The first time here was great. Second, not really. At peak hours parking can be tricky.The minute you walk in you are greeted. Very friendly servers. Ordering take out is easy. It didnt take long for our order. The prices arent bad, 3 items for less than $25. Portions are okay.The rice was terrible. It tasted as if it were a day or two old. Or microwaved rice. Food is great, but, you need to open or partially open the restaurant for dining. More and more of these restaurants are staying with take home order only format because they make more money this way. Stop fleecing customers with you outrageous prices. Stop using Covid as reason to keep doing this. Also tell your staff to be nicer like it was before, I could understand the stress they were going through during the height of the pandemic but its over.Update: They are open now for dine-in. I’m real happy about this and have gone a few times to dine. Food is still great but outrageous prices. Some of familiar faces are no longer there. People waiting to get food for several hours is completely unacceptable. Will whoever owns this place read these reviews, probably not, but it needs to be heard. I get that food needs to be cooked to order and be fresh on the way out but COME ON MAN. Either hire more cooks or put more kitchen equipment in to crank out the orders faster because this is retarded. Also the service staff are not attentive.
