Fewer options late into the evening, but food was pretty good and quick. Ordered the two item bbq combo with crispy pork and duck as those were the only two options. Comes with rise and veggies (baby bok choy) which paired well with the rich meat. Service was decent, but definitely a language barrier, but not so bad with pictures and pointing. Was hoping to get some bbq pork and wish the crispy pork was crispier, but was very good and a place I would visit again when in the neighborhood.

Today we came here dined in for the first time and were impressed with the lunch special dishes including Chinese broccoli with Chinese sausage, roasted pork, and fried garlic pork ribs. Each dish was packed with flavor and satisfying.What sets Ruby BBQ apart from other restaurants is the added bonus of free rice and soup with their lunch specials. The family-owned atmosphere is also a plus, and the staff is friendly and welcoming. The restaurant may only have a few tables, but the taste of their food more than makes up for it. Unforgettable roasted pork belly. Rubys roasted pork belly remains crispy even if its not eaten in the restaurant or right away. The presentation is perfect too. Pure perfection!

Although you can sit and eat inside i have never done that. I love buying my perfectly roasted pork belly here its is perfectly crispy on top buy it by the pound due to the economic upturn it has become much mor expensive but soo worth it!!!

Found this little cozy Cantonese cuisine in El Monte. I have been craving for HK foods for quite sometime, decided to give this a try. Their price is very reasonable, 5 dishes for $46. The most expensive is the roast pork, 1lb for 14.90. And it is very delicious, very crispy and crunchy skin. The rest of the foods are very good as well, however, they are on the salty side. Absolutely love this restaurant, will definitely buy from them, and try other dishes as well.

Hole in the wall charcuterie. Absolute best cantonese roasted meats, siu laap in the San Gabriel valley. We go here for the roast pork, siu yok. Like lechon. Rarely we dine in, but absolute must for ancestral death days and other Chinese holidays. Included menu as well -- would call in before so they can prepare.

Was recommended about their roast pork. The location is an industrial area and also saw a few Vietnamese Pho restaurant. Ruby BBQ only has roast pork and duck from the BBQ section. To me, it is Vietnamese Chinese since traditional Chinese BBQ has much more items. Also, the roast pork already have the bones removed, which Chinese BBQ should have bones intact. Enough of comparison, the roast pork is great, crunchy skin and juicy meat. Didnt try the duck, and am sure it is as good. There are so some simple menu dishes, I only got the vegetable, it is ok. Reminder, cash only business.

I read a review of this restaurant at the beginning of the pandemic in San Francisco several years ago.Their specialty is the crispy roast pork belly and I would give it 5 stars hands down if you buy it as a take out.They will give you a better cut.I bought a take out during my initial visit and it was great.My family & I ate it in the car 🚗 and it was memorable.I couldnt wait for the follow up visit.This time they were open for dine in.We made the mistake and ate there.The menu said free soup and free rice with the entrée.No soup or rice served on the day we went.It didnt matter but the waiter said we had to pay for the rice as it was no longer free.We asked for a bowl 🥣 and it came with the 2 entrées we ordered, roast duck and double portion of crispy roast pork belly.It came and the duck was tuff and the meat of the pork belly was drier than the bottom of my shoe.It was miserable so dont dine in.They were extremely busy at the lunch hour and the waiter was extremely rude.Prior to us getting the entrées I ordered 2 pork belly lunches to go.Having had the bad experience with the dine-in, I was going to refuse the take outs.Fortunate for me I opened the boxes to check.The pork belly was fresh and the portion was more than the entrée and included rice and bok choy.Not bad for $11.99 as opposed to $16.99 for the double portion of pork belly without rice.Im not saying I will not return.I will go there from now on and take out.Im hoping post pandemic that they will improve on their in-dining customer service.The ratings from above are for now.

Not sure if this place fits the definition of “hole in the wall”. But it got one of the best roast pork in LA, and price is reasonable! They also got few varieties of Cantonese style stir fry dishes, also with very reasonable pricing. Overall, this is a great place if you like Cantonese style bbq. Tables are limited so prepare to order as takeout if it’s too crowded

We only really come here for the crispy pork belly, which is usually pretty good. I always come with my wife who speaks chinese so Im not sure what it would be like ordering as a non Chinese speaking person.

They have the best crispy skin BBQ pork Ive had in LA by far. Im sure its been sitting there for a while because we arrived 30 minutes before they close, but its still very crispy and not dry at all. The sauce that came with the pork was perfectly done, not too salty or sweet. The vegetable was fantastic as well, very fresh. Its cash only, with tax and everything included, Id recommend bringing $30 for two people.

The food was great, but when I told the lady that I only had $20 in cash because by the way, they only take cash and no cards. Having my family with me, my wife and three kids. We order two plates which total somewhere in the $18.00. When suddenly the lady with really bad English told me, No tip then to go... suggesting that we could not eat there because we were not tipping enough... Too bad the food was good but as far as customer service the worst I had in all LA area...

My parents really wanted to try this place out after my dad heard some pretty good reviews from a friend. It isnt located in a convenient restaurant area place, so you do have to drive out to El Monte if youre not in the area. A pretty small restaurant with maybe about 10 or less tables. They have lunch specials that range from $5.99 and up and if you dine in, they give you a large bowl of soup!The dishes came out quite slow. We actually got each one, almost finished it, before getting the next. The overall quality wasnt bad though. We ordered the chinese broccoli sauteed with diced fish (not sure if thats the English name) - good dish but not enough of the fish. The house special chicken wasnt as tasty as other places (Tasty Garden, etc). The chicken was warm and tasted like it had been overcooked! Usually this type of chicken is served cold/lukewarm.The two redeeming dishes were the roasted duck and the roasted pork belly. The roasted pork belly is a must try. Small pieces of really really good pork belly with just the right amount of pork, the pork fat and the crispiness from the skin. You didnt even need the BBQ sauce! And the roasted duck (which came really really late because they said they needed to cook it extra in the oven or something) was also really good. A pretty big plate of duck (more than Sam Woos) and the skin was crispy and the meat was tender. The sauce wasnt too flavorful, but still a good dish.We came in around 1 on Saturday and the restaurant was pretty empty. But after we sat down, a lot of different tables came in, too! They only accept cash. The service could be a bit friendlier, (I guess Im used to people saying thank you! come again soon! after walking out whereas the workers just stared at us as we left) and the dishes could be served in a timelier manner, but I definitely recommend the pork belly and roasted duck!

I used to patronize this place for a few years. A quick meal after table tennis or get takeout of BBQ duck or pork. The pork belly is the most delicious in town. Some of the menu dishes are also very good. But one thing keeps bothering me: when I come by myself, and I want to order half duck or mixed pork belly and duck, the owner keeps pushing me to get a personal plate of rice, vege and the meat. I am on a low carb diet so I really desire more meat and less carb. But she says the dishes do not come with rice even though the menu says with rice and soup. By making me take the personal dish she can give me less meat for the same price e.g. $10.99 for less meat than the regular lunch menu. I think I better just do take out in future or come less often.
