Have only done take out here and never eaten in. Giant menu. The egg drop soup large is enough for 2 meals and the best egg drop soup I have ever had which is why we keep going back. Nothing has ever been terrible but it can be inconsistent. If you call ahead for take out, expect to wait. Don’t rush to get there because if they tell you 25 min, it will be 25 min, maybe a little longer if they are busy cuz it’s a a big place.

Saigon is one of those places I dont mind going but wouldnt necessarily recommend to others. Most of the food tends to be decent and consistent, with some letdowns (the crispy duck is wildly overcooked). The drinks are pretty good. Service is decent enough. The wait can be very long - especially if you come in with a family but are doing separate dishes. Some people will have their food up to 30 minutes before others. I do think the family meals are quite good and worth it.For what its worth, my Vietnamese father-in-law goes here occasionally, but we tend to other places unless were doing family dinners with more people.

The restaurant appeared older and somewhat outdated but had plenty of parking lot space. The staff was nice and friendly. Food was cooked to order and came out very hot and fresh. All of the dishes that our party of 4 ordered turned out delicious. The beef noodle stir fry was delicious, and the portion size was well worth the money. Highly recommend this place to anyone who would like to try vietnamese food. The menu is very large (many options to choose from).

Ive been going to this restaurant since I was a little kid, and its been amazing for decades. The food is super flavorful, the portions are great, and the staff is always friendly. There are so many options, and Ive never had a bad thing here. Standout has to be the Spring Rolls—theyve been my favorite for years and Ive never found a restaurant that can do it better.

The parking is the nicest thing about this place; everything else sucks. It took 40 min for my drinks and meal to arrive. The pho was ok but fried squid was hard as granite. The water tasted like someone spilled a ton of vinegar. Nothing to recommend here at all.

I had great expectations for this restaurant. It didnt disappoint but I wasnt in Heaven in regards to the food. If you go a bit later than a typical lunch time it wont be as crowded on a Saturday. Fun atmosphere, fast service, and generous on the portions. I would recommend trying it once. Dumplings were a tad dry.

Great little Vietnamese gem in city heights. Easily top 5 pho in San Diego . Don’t miss the egg rolls either. Also when they say fresh crab and lobster they mean fresh! They literally pick them live from the tank when you order.

Definitely overpriced. We ordered the half duck crispy & tasted like it was re-fried multiple times . Even the water was nasty, our sodas were flat and warm (cans) . The server had not returned to take our order after we told the other staff (who wanted to take our menus) that we were waiting to order ... 3 times. Lastly, some of the prices on the menu was not matching the receipt they gave us & the receipt does not even list the items. We were charged about .45 cents more on some items??? I wouldnt go again.

My group and I ordered several dishes to share. Our favorites were the beef cubes steak with french fries, the Buddhas delight style vegetables, the crepe (make sure you cut some and wrap it in the lettuce provided and then use dipping sauce) and the fried spring rolls. I would not get the crispy chicken again (it was okay), but everything else was good!

It took forever to get water, menus or to even put are order in. We asked for our own pitcher of water because there are no refills. We ordered the beef pho. And about 25 minutes latter it came. They were not stingy with the lime. The Huson sauce was a little off and taste and texture but the chili was right on point the soup was delicious when we ate it it tasted like old Vietnam which was the best part as my fiancé said I will be coming back and I will be ready for the wait this time The portion sizes were on point I walked away thinking I actually ate a large bowl of pho with double noodles and lots of beef. Our worst food experience in San Diego so far. We ordered takeout after long, cold and rainy day wanting something warm and comforting. We ordered pho with shrimp and crispy shrimp with rice. When we got home we found out that we did not get a single shrimp with pho!!! Just broth, bean sprouts, thai basil and jalapeño! And crispy shrimp came fully shelled and shrimp have not been deveined!!! We dined at many Vietnamese restaurants where shrimp’s shell was pre-cut and at least veins were removed. My husband spent 20 minutes just cleaning and deveining shrimp which got cold by the time he was done. We wanted to call the restaurant to complain, but it was already closed. Horrible experience. We won’t be returning and don’t recommend this restaurant.

One of our favorite Viet restaurants in town. Place is clean and big enough to host large parties. Foods reasonably priced, large portions, and most importantly, authentic! Ordered item 52 (shredded pork, chargrilled pork chop in broken rice), which came Texas-sized! Couldnt finish the plate, a 1st, as i can usually finish all my meals. Also ordered plum juice (soda xí mụi), a big mistake as it was SALTY; had to be diluted with almost double the ice and water to offset potential blood pressure issues. Otherwise, meal was perfect.

The broth tasted nasty as well.I have caucasian friends that can make better nước mắm than this restaurant.We dont know from which region of Vietnam were these people from but their thịt nướng was definitely not from Sài Gòn. Their concoction of thịt nướng was horribly weird and nasty.Their tàu hủ ky might have a slather of shrimp and the rest of the stuffing tasted like flour mixed in.Banh xèo was over stuffed with too much bean sprouts. They used half-cooked whole mung beans in their bánh xèo. They should have left out the half-cooked mung bean then it would have been edible.Were they trying to sell bánh xèo to mostly Non-Vietnamese? On the vegetables plate that came out with bánh xèo, there was just lettuce and húng lủi.We know we will not be back to this restaurant.We wouldnt recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Saigon Restaurant was featured in the San Diego Union Tribune in 1995 and they have the newspaper article preserved and near the cashier window to prove it. The pho broth here is delicious! So, I can understand why this place has been a local favorite for many years. This place is open late and yes they’ve got a restroom for customers. I haven’t tried anything else except the pho and the avocado shake and their jasmine tea but I’ll definitely try something else when I visit again.Tip: When you walk in, make sure you make eye contact with one of the servers and let them know how many is in your party.

Hmmmm Im not sure what to say of this place. We got plenty of portion for our food but it wasnt too appealing.. the pho was ok, vermicelli noodle dish, they gave plenty of noodles, less veggies and the pork, looked weird. Its almost like pork belly stacked together and cooked. The rice dish was the same. Stacked pork belly cook and cut out to put on plate. The spring rolls was humongous. Egg rolls was ok. Will I return? No . Will I recommend this place? No

This is the only place my 65 year old Vietnamese mom will pay for Vietnamese food. In true Asian restaurant fashion, the service is just ok. I know that if I am slighted in some way the food is going to be 10/10. One time I came and they told my brother in law the kitchen was closed and he couldn’t order a coke, a CAN of coke. No fluff, no frills, just good food.

I went in when it got pretty busy (nearly a full house), and there was only one server bringing out everyones foods. My friends and I waited about 30 minutes to have our food, and then another hour for our food to arrive. I felt bad that there was only one server. After my friends got their order, I still hadnt had mines, so I went up to the front to ask about it. Then they told me my order would take about 2 hours to get ready and asked if I wanted to order something else. I wish they had mentioned that earlier. So I ended up ordering something else, but I was still waiting on my drink. It was weird that I was still waiting while my friends already had their food and drinks. I ended up taking my food and drink to go.

Absolutely miserable place. Miserable service, subpar food. Took 30 minutes for us to get waters, never checked on once, and wasn’t given half our order. Which we had to go up and chase down our waiter to cancel in the end. Only to be charged a slap in the face $2 extra charge for taking sauce cups togo. Not to mention that place has to be in countless misdemeanors and a hair away from being shut down. The grade is no where in sight, staff obviously do not take hygiene seriously which was clear by the fact that we found not one, but TWO hairs in different entrees. Needless to say we will never return and nobody in San Diego nor anyone else should be punished to experience such a place.

Restaurant is in the older part of San Diego on El Cajon Blvd that has Asian stores.Food is hot, portions are large, the pho soup is not skimpy on meat, basil and beansprouts are fresh and plentiful.The spring rolls are large enough that one serving of two rolls is good appetizer for two people.There may be a longer wait time, about 15-20 minutes for food during lunch or dinner so order a nice drink.The womens restroom is rather rundown and there is only one stall.Homeless people were camping outside in the alley beside the restaurant but a wire fence has been built to block access into the parking lot for the restaurant.Prices are about $2 less than buying the same thing in the fancier restaurants in Hillcrest.

Im not an expert on Pho but I really enjoy the food at Saigon. Food is always hot, made to order, they do not skimp on sauce or any condiments that go on the food. Worse service ever. I paid 120 bucks for food that was not even correct, bad SERVICE the waiter took the menu out of my hands when i wasn’t even done using it. I ordered a family combo and they didn’t bring me two of the plates that came in the combo and when i told the waiter he just took the plate and never brought the correct order or the desserts it was supposed to come with. I have been here before and i never had any problems until today. And when we asked for a drink the waiter said ok and never brought it until i asked someone else to bring it. What a WASTE of my money and time. Also i got a Shrimp Pho and when i received it it smelled weird and and tasted off. Have been here four times before and service was slow but good food. On our fifth time we were greeted as if we were intruding. Only two tables were occupied but 4 tables still had dirty plates. We were seated and waited for 20 minutes, I know they have slow service but this was ridiculous. I proceeded to walk out the man at the register ignored us and the waitress just eyed us up and down. This place is hit or miss. The food is great, everything from pho to their fried rice is delicious, the only issue is the service and the time it takes to get your food. Ive really bad experiences where the food took forever to come and other times when the food comes quickly. It really all depends on how busy they are and if they have a lot of mobile orders.Try this place out at least once and decide for yourself.

Saigon used to be a great restaurant back in the day.I ordered a sea food soup that was all tomato, pinaple, and some kind of fruit...with almost no sea food in it. It was terrible.The menue priced it at $13.95 but when I went to pay they said that it was actually $19.95.Their service is terrible and have waited for up to 45 minutes to receive the food.The previous two times I was there I had their Mongolian beef that was completely over loaded with onions that I couldnt finish it. That did not matter for it was completely tasteless as if I was eating cardboard. They used to cover the beef with a great sauce that made the taste, but now they just serve you their tasteless beef.After decades of going there, I will never darken their doors again.It is sad to see this once great restaurant go so far down hill.If I could rate them less than one star I would.

There are several Saigon restaurants so be sure to go to the one across the street from Hoover High. We love their food and get shrimp fried rice, Vietnamese egg rolls, combination pho and crunchy noodles with stir fry shrimp (my favorite). It does take time so be patient, good food is worth the wait.

It seems like they only have one waiter for the entire restaurant, so service might be a bit slow, but so far the food is the true star here. I usually order the #199-- thick rice noodles with seafood. Plenty of seafood and vegetables, not to mention the noodles and sauce! I had it both in the restaurant and to go. Wonderful and plentiful. Simply wonderful. A taste of Vietnam.Most patrons are Vietnamese, which attests to the authentic character of the restaurant. At least in terms of how close you can get to foreign food in a far away place.Service is slow but kind and worth it.Prices are super affordable.Most dishes are an adventure to try.I recommend the squid salad, and the clay pot.Although not so far from North Park, you will find parking here without a problem.Design sucks, but in the right kind of way. The place has bizarre touches and character: a large rectangular glass aquarium with colorful fishes but NO decorations whatsoever, live seafood, cheessy and poorly drawn roof paintings pretending to be Vietnam?, cool rotating tables. Theres a positive feel to the place that no description can fully capture. Its alive.

Ive been going for about 7 yrs. Its Vietnamese/ Chinese. I absolutely LOVE this restaurant. I believe it is pretty authentic tasting. SO MANY variations of everything. Menu has over 300 + food/drink items! Food presentation is grear, prices are great (very affordable). I like the Chinese style Fried rice, thick noodles w/ meat/ veggies, Fried shrimps, A large variety of Meats & seafood & vegetarian too! I like the Wonton dumpling soup too! Food here is mediocre. Typical Vietnamese cuisine with some Chinese dishes mixed in. It is a great place for large parties and they do take reservations. Upon entering Saigon, you immediately notice the restaurant is overly crowded with large, round tables from wall to wall and very little space in between to walk. The restaurant looks old, and primary decoration is a huge fish tank which, by the looks of the cloudy, green water, isnt often cleaned.Our waiter was not very attentive and could not speak clear English, which made ordering difficult and refills a rarity. I went with a few other people and tried an assortment of menu items, including a couple of rice bowls, pho, spring and egg rolls, etc. The portions are very generous, but the quality of the food is mediocre.Payment is done at the counter on your way out. However, there were no checks given to us. Rather, you have to specify which items you ordered, without anything to look at to tell you what else is left to be paid for from your partys tab. This is exceptionally difficult, since none of the menu items are in English, and we ended up getting stuck paying for someone elses side because of it.Maybe we just came on a bad night, but my experience can be summed up as ok food and bad customer service.

If you want real Vietnamese food this place isnt for you. When you first enter they place some policies on the wall. Read them. Thats the first sign of bad things to come.We came with a group of 9 people and no one ended up finishing their plate. The fish sauce was overly sweet, but not the way fish sauce is supposed to taste. The grilled meats had more of a Chinese style to it. I had never seen that in a Vietnamese restaurant.If you go to a Vietnamese restaurant and do not see Vietnamese people eating, then you know its probably not that great and trust me us Vietnamese people know where the good Vietnamese food. Definitely one of my favorite spots in Little Saigon. They have the largest noodle selection in ANY of the Vietnamese/Chinese restaurant Ive ever been to. Honest and quick Vietnamese fareSaigon is definitely a hub in the city heights area. Ive been coming here with my husband and kids for years. The menu is enormous, and we typically have the same three or four dishes. Someone in our family will always order rare steak pho. But the charbroiled bbq pork meal, or the egg roll apetizers are also delicious. Saigon is very inexpensive, the turn out is high so the food has to be fresh. Its authentic, youll see many Vietnamese families, especially on the weekends. For this category of eateries - ethnic authentic inexpensive restaurants, Im way more lenient on my rating. But it is a true rating. Id give it a five if they didnt buss the tables with a huge buss tray, right while customers are being served at the next table. I find that unappetizing. But Im used to it and going to Saigon is practical, familiar and a safe bet. And my kids love it.

Truly exceptional. I dont know why they say its a bare bones decor. Its clean and rather pretty, not a hole in the wall compared to many other pho places. This one distinguishes itself with the vast variety of dishes, flavored and spiced to perfection. The service is the usual, a bit formal and a bit stiff, but they will help you figure out what you want. Generous portions, too. One dish and an appetizer could feed two people nicely.Also, many of the dishes have a decidedly Chinese style to them. So even though its billed as Vietnamese, its also got the best Chinese food in San Diego, where the chinese food is otherwise mediocre.

Saigon is the og Vietnamese spot. Trust me, my friends who are og’s of the area all agree. Best to go with a group of friends and share family style spinning that lazy susan like it’s full of dank dishes (which it will be). Also the fortune cookie wrappers have a naked angel baby.

My experience I was disappointed my order for takeout took a little bit longer than usual it was more than 30 minutes when I arrived the restaurant wasnt busy as they took my order people started showing up I order way before this table party of six and their dishes came out first in my order what I go there again probably not even though I have eaten there before and I do like their food no sorry for the wait and they didnt explain to me why it took that long for only three items

Saigon is one of those old time favorite, mom and pop type places that have been around forever it seems. They havent made it this far for nothing. They are consistent and tasty.
