Just a really great experience eating with coworkers. Sushi is really fresh. The sushi chef also served us some samples I would have not tried on my own. I highly recommend eating at the sushi bar

The sashimi slices were very thin and small, unlike any other sushi places I’ve been. The sushi rolls portions were very small as well, but cost a lot more than other restaurants. The service and atmosphere is decent, but I wouldn’t come back due to low food / price ratio. There are many better sushi options out here in the Bay Area.

A (not so) hidden gem in downtown Burlingame. The sushi here is top top notch, rivaling even the best sushi found in San Francisco, for a fraction of the price. Every fish in my Chirashi was fresh and excellent, and our side dishes were as well. Marinated baby octopus, suonomo salad, fresh wasabi, perfectly seasoned hirame. 10/10 will be visiting again.

Ingredients were excellent its UNI ( Sea Urchin) season and they have the Santa Barbara AAA and Hokkaido UNI, Akami and Toro great and the fact they have a GLASS of Daigingo Sake its nice. Ali and Alex are very personable and nice. Definitely a great option while close to the airport of San Francisco

We saw that this restaurant had 4 stars on Yelp, so we thought wed give it a shot. Unfortunately, I found the food to be really average, the service to be a bit distracted, and, as a result, the prices to be much too high for what you get.My wife ordered the $120 omakase. Half the fish were tasty and fresh. But the other half were really meh. I tried the fatty Toro and it was fibrous, a bit mushy, and had a subtle fishy taste that you dont get with super fresh fish.I went a la carte. The hotate yaki was okay. A bit oversauced. The shrimp tempura was a bit too doughy and could have been much crisper. The hot tuna roll was good, but not worth the $14 price tag.Overall, decent sushi, but you can find much better sushi for the same price elsewhere.

I hate you give up one of the best kept secrets in the Bay area because I love it just the way it is and dont want to see it get overrun with people. But this is hands down the best sushi I have ever had. Hlro, the owner, hails from Japan and has had several other restaurants. There is nothing overly exciting about the outside, it gets a little better when you step inside and when you taste the food...... Divine. Some of the best sushi I have ever had, always good, always super fresh, it is the best!

It was good, but I think is a little expensive, I order a chicken teriyaki that usually come with rice and vegetables, and sometimes miso soup, the only thing that came with the order is the chicken in the photo for 18 dollars. I have to order rice for 4 and miso soup for 4.50.

I came in hangry. I hadnt eaten well earlier in the day, the first restaurant we tried to go to turned out to be closed, and I nearly walked out when I looked at the menu and saw that a rainbow roll was over $20.Im glad I stayed.There was a reason the rainbow roll was over $20.This was possibly the best sushi either of us had ever had. It started off a touch rocky with the wife getting a scallop as an appetizer. $7 for a single scallop seemed steep and when she popped it in her mouth, it turned out to have wasabi in it and she reeled.Then they brought out the sushi rolls. I had the rainbow, she had the caterpillar. One of the fish on my rainbow roll was eel, which is rather uncommon and I was a bit surprised. The caterpillar had an especially nice presentation. Both rolls were phenomenal. She kept shaking her head in disbelief, saying over and over that she couldnt believe how good it was. The fish was very fresh and melted like butter in my mouth. I assume, with that flavour, that both were made using real crab.We followed it up by ordering a salmon and avocado roll, which was also amazing.Service was very friendly and professional. Atmosphere was good, slightly upscale. Both the dining room and the restroom were quite clean. The trip to the restroom was a bit of a journey - the place is larger than it looks!Overall, great experience and I definitely recommend it.

Solid sushi spot in downtown Burlingame. Its on the higher end and the chefs seem to know their stuff. The sushi is a little heavy on the wasabi, but I would suggest their more creative dishes over traditional nigiri. This is a good date spot with many 2 person tables.

Premium quality sushi. Bring your wallet, everything is fresh and top notch. I had sashimi and their rolls and the chefs know what they are doing. I went on a Wednesday night so I was able to get in with no reservations. If you come on the weekend I highly recommend reservations. This place for sure is the best sushi in Burlingame hands down!!!

I lived in Burlingame over 20 years ago and was a “regular” at Sakae Sushi when they were on Park Road. Brought my family there the other day during our vacation to the Bay Area and we were all blown away. It was some of the best sushi we have ever had. So fresh and delicious! The Japanese uni was spectacular!! The miso soup was very rich and flavorful and the hamachi melted in our mouths. Couldn’t believe that Jun and Hero are still there! Sakae Sushi will always be the #1 sushi restaurant in my ❤️.

This restaurant is a staple in my families favoriteE restaurants. The fish is excellent, so fresh! The primary sushi chef is really creative a year owners really provide a comfortable, welcoming atmosphere. We have been eating at this location and the former location for about10 years. We are both on weird restrictive diets. Asked for very specific things. She was so nice and cool about it. (Dont worry I tipped her excessively!):) I like the dark cozy feel. ~This place delivers the fresh fish, for sure. I ordered off of their Daily Specials board, and I was not disappointed in the least. In fact, this place easily exceeded my expectations. And the sushi chef was impressed with what I ordered, and gave me a complimentary Ahi Toro roll! Everything was excellent! The Chu Toro that I ordered melted in my mouth like butter and the Bonito had such a natural savory smoky flavor. The Hirame was on point and my Spicy Salmon roll was on point. I will definitely be back!😋~

R & me came here for a few pieces of sushi before heading out for drinks and a very late dinner. The place is obviously on the higher end scale. The decor is nice and classy and about everyone that was there was well dressed. (men in suits and women in high heels).We had one salmon skin roll, one scallop roll and 4 nigiris, salmon, sea eel, tuna and sea bass. The rolls were delicious, the salmon skin was one of the best I had. Not only skin but a little salmon meat on it which made very tasty. The scallop roll was really good too.As for the nigiris, the tuna felt a little old but the others were great. The sea eel just melts in your mouth like butter. And the sea bass was extraordinary.Overall a great experience, the staff was very attentive and the place is very clean. Its on the expensive side so its definitely a more of a treat place than my regular go to sushi. But I would definitely love to come back here again.

I have had countless great experiences here over the past several years. Definitely the best sushi that I have had in San Mateo County and a real contender for the best in the Bay. They only serve the highest quality fish, have beautiful presentation (especially the omakase sashimi for two!), and good service.Ill admit that it can be a bit pricey, but I truly believe that it is worth every penny. To get the full experience, sit at the bar and try one of the omakase combos, the chirashi, or order a la cart from the daily specials. I usually visit for the sushi, but the cooked dishes that I have had were equally excellent.

I can’t understand why this place has 4.5 stars on Google. I ordered sushi+grilled salmon combo lunch. The salmon was super dry and tough. My friend ordered a tempura roll which was not crunchy. Their sushi was okay nothing special. I would never go there again or recommend it to anyone.

Giving this place a second try was a total wrong decision!!!!!Fishy is all I can say about the nigiri on their special menu.(at least what we ordered) Cant even manage a second bite for some of them. The fishy taste lasted hours even after I brushed my teeth and took some strong mouth wash(I usually hate that mouthwash, because it numbs my tongue. But apparently it was not strong enough to beat the fishy taste left)After all their special nigiri are pretty expensive (like $18-25 for 2pcs). With this pricing range, I would expect they at least know how to deal with fish.We ordered several kinds. The only one we liked was the inada one(baby yellowtail).We also ordered a grilled iwashi fish stuffed with spicy mentaiko. I wished I took a photo of it. It was so over burned that the fish was in deep dark brown color and tasted very bitter. Although stuffed mentaiko tasted good, I wouldnt recommend this dish at all!After came here twice, I have put this place on my never come here again list. I would highly recommend this place to people who actually love eating fishy fish.

If this restaurant has a theme, its fish and mayonnaise. Its not bad, but most of their sushi has mayonnaise in it. Their seared scallops come topped with about a half a cup of mayo.If you dont love mayo, there are other options. For example, the salmon belly is amazing and I highly recommend it.

The staff has a bit of a language barrier, so make sure someone good with accents goes with you, but having bilingual staff is certainly impressive. Sakae must be the only sushi restaurant in Burlingame, because it serves up over-priced and gimmicky sushi touting as the real thing. Well, its not. Its not so much that the quality of fish was just that poor. But for the prices they are charging, its really not mind-blowing at all.I got the omakase which includes two appetizers and 10 pieces of sushi chosen by the chef - for a price of $75. For a $75 omakase, the fish should be top notch. I got ordinary pieces like a not-so-impressive salmon that didnt taste like anything and a marinated bonito that... well, also didnt taste like much. The chawanmush was disappointing. The flavors and preparation are not authentic at all. Its a poor imitation of the real thing.Everything I tasted was mediocre. Also, the chef station was not very clean or well-kept. Thats a peeve of mine. Usually the really good sushi restaurants have pristine chef stations. I just cant respect sushi that is so expensive yet so low in quality. Its sad that so many people come here and pay way too much money.

It seems that some items are purchased by air from Japan.The price is a little high, but its worth it.The general is a former wrestler and is very talkative.
