Went here over Labor Day. This is a must go with a family. Even a date day or a date night. They have a great coffee selection iced or hot. You can spend 3 hrs here and not see everything. Enjoy the walk with hills and flat areas. Enjoy the different smells of plants and flowers.

Spent a lovely Sunday afternoon here. Loved that you can purchase tickets in advance online and set a reservation time so that you avoid being crowded up. Got there early and sat in the car til my time came. Many places to sit and reflect. Quiet and peaceful.

I finally visited the San Diego botanical after two failed attempts before. Making a reservation online in advanced using the reciprocal program enabled us to get in for free after confirming our membership with the Los Angeles Arboretum and identity.The volunteer lady at the entrance was super nice and explained the gardens to us.There are some flowers that I dont recall seeing at the Los Angeles Arboretum. The dragon trees here are much taller and bigger. Not a huge garden all in all but I enjoyed seeing every part of it.

This place was much bigger than I thought it would be. Kind of disappointed the cafe was not even open yet (still being built). The only place to get food or drinks was the Cork Oak coffee stand, up towards the middle of the gardens. There were drinking fountains by some of the various restrooms throughout the gardens though. I did enjoy the gift shop the most, and the herb garden area. Also unfortunately the bamboo garden area was closed for renovation today as well (including the turtle pond!!!) Took about three and a half hours to see everything, including taking breaks to rest and take photos. Beautiful view @ the south lookout tower. Adult entry without discount costs $18.00. Wear your hiking shoes for this adventure!!

Beautiful botanic garden! I love coming here with my son as they not only have amazing plant life but also a huge tree jungle playground. It’s really not $$$ for an annual membership and totally worth it if youre local or just visiting the area.

A great introduction to both the native and introduced flora in Southern California.Lots of shade, so even when it is hot and sunny there is always a shady path or bench around the corner.The signage was attractive and informative. I was able to use my hometown garden membership for free reciprocal admission.

Very neat garden. Its WAYYY bigger than you imagine, so expect a lot of walking. Theres discounts for students/military/seniors/children. Otherwise, its $18 for adults. The first greenhouse you enter is probably the best garden. Theres a ton of different carnivorous plants, and this MASSIVE flower. After you leave the greenhouse theres a lot of different paths you can choose. Take your time exploring each different area - theres one that looks like a jungle. Near the back theres a tropical tree/plant section that has bananas, apples, and these unique dangling flowers. One section has a fire tower kind of structure where you can use the binoculars to look at the coast. Because the garden is so large, there are bathrooms and water fountains spread throughout. Be prepared to spend at least a couple of hours here.

Treat yourself to a day of unwinding at the San Diego Botanic Garden. They have a wonderful kid space and ample benches throughout. Theres a shuttle path, so even those with mobility challenges can enjoy a large portion of the garden. They have a cute little gift shop for grabbing an umbrella or magnet or sock puppet and other unique gifts. The brief walk to the observation deck is well worth it, and youre rewarded with a shady, breezy spot with a great view all the way to the beach and across the valley.

Visited the SD Botanic Garden to see their Lightscape exhibit. The exhibit far exceeded my expectations. The lighting was spectacular and the plants and trees were amazing. Highly recommended.

Nice park to walk around with. if youre going in the daytime, id suggest not going when theyre setting up for the night time lights - a lot of areas (like the bamboo area) were closed off and tbh most of the lights detract from the natural beauty of the foliage during the day. some like the poppy lights were cool in the day though.most people working there were super nice, in particular the woman in the hot house garden - so kind and informative! on the flipside, there was a blonde woman moving plants who *screamed* at people about a blocked path which was kind of yikes. i really didnt like that.i hope the corpse flower blooms again in the next few years because i missed seeing it. the guide at the hothouse showed us some pics of it and it looks so, so cool.overall, a really nice spot to walk around and enjoy beautiful plants :)

Amazing Botanic Garden! Spent at least 3 hours and couldve stayed 3 more. I was there for the bloom of the Corpse Plant, absolutely beautiful! Loved learning the different plants from all over the world. It was overcast and a perfect day for outdoor adventure.

Gorgeous gardens!When my kids were young, we had a annual membership here. They have a nice kids play area and its lovely to walk around and admire all the interesting shaped trees and flowers.Personal fav are the waterfall, the bamboo garden and pond.Over the years the gardens have expanded and now have grow house, larger parking lot.

I visited the gardens for the San Diego Lightscape and got tickets for 5pm. It was beautiful with different artist information on each section. It was so pretty to see the sunset as well in the background. There were quite a lot of families visiting with their children enjoying the lights. There were maybe 3 or 4 little bar/food stops with benches, chairs, and tables. Parking was easy as it opened at 5pm for the lights. Easy for anyone in wheelchair as they set up a flat path throughout so anyone can enjoy. Recommend dressing in warm layers it was colder than I expected due to the location. Not dog friendly for the lights.

This is a great place to visit on a cool sunny day. It took us about 2.5-3 hours to meander through the entire garden, stopping for photos and admirations.Theres an extremely diverse range of plants and trees here and they offer informational blurbs on some of them in the form of little placards.

What a great garden! Parking is on-site. Inside youll find a garden with many trails to lead you through a Mediterranean world tour. Get ready to spend about 2-3 hours. There are hills to traverse, so wear comfortable shoes. Enjoy the colors and sounds of nature!

A great place to spend a couple of hours strolling and looking at plants and flowers, native to California and cultivated from around the world. Some projects are currently in process which will be great enhancements once they are finished, including a cafe and improvements to the walking trail through the bamboo garden and desert plant area. Those areas are closed to access until the trail improvements are finished.

Had a really lovely Sunday afternoon here. The orchid installation was amazing and the gardens were well maintained. I’m excited to see the new areas once complete as they were under construction during our visit. The little coffee shop on top of the hill was just what we needed as well.

Wonderful gardens with a great variety of plants. The temporary orchid display in the glasshouse was spectacular. Take a free guided tour if you can. Our tour was led by Patti who is so energetic and loves the plants so much you cant help but love them, too!

We drove 2 hours to the SD Botanic Garden. Our kids love the tree house and the little stream area. This place is HUGE! I would love to come back with a few friends and spend the day taking pictures of the beautiful plants here.

This is a really nice, very different kind of experience. Beautiful lights, thoughtful, interesting art, well-picked music - a really strange, interesting walk. Its like walking through Wonderland, never sure whats around the next curve!I didnt know what to expect when we bought tickets, but Im really glad we went. Bring your kids or go alone - its a great experience!

Parking: free in the lot, and lot opposite. A few spots on the street. Went on the discount month and had to park in the lot opposite.Paid half price for entry with discount for museums in SD County.The garden was great, lots of paths, a few gardens were closed like the Japanese garden. They are separated by regions. Some are indigenous, Japanese, Australian, African.They have docent led tours.

Nice garden! You totally should bring your friends or kids come to check it out in a good weather. There are several hills which are good exercise while you are enjoying the fun & beautiful plants. They have multiple area gardens like African garden, Australia garden, bamboo garden…. We learned a lot from this trip. You can also bring kids come to learn about plants. There is a big tree house that you can explore in this botanical garden.

Enjoyed our first visit at San Diego Botanic Garden. Love seeing the flowers in full bloom especially the unique “Puya”. The Botanic Garden was well organized and educational. It is well worth the visit.

This was a deceiving place but in a good way. The entrance led me to a large greenhouse event space. We were lucky enough to be there when they had an amazing Orchid exhibition from various Orchid societies from throughout the San Diego region. This led me to the deceiving part of the Garden. We meander through a kids garden, through many regional specific ecosystems and up to a lookout on the bluff that offers views of the ocean. This place was massive! Amazing place to get lost in. I wish I had more time to explore.

I was here staffing an event and Ill never forget it! This place is absolutely gorgeous and is definitely worth visiting!!! The greenhouse itself was used to host a wedding and it in itself was breathtaking! I plan on coming back here and taking my time to visit and see all of it because I can tell even during the evening that it was an absolute must see!

Beautiful grounds with plants and trees from around the world. Their augmented reality art exhibit added art and music to the gardens. It was a little tricky to use, but we got to see all but one. The lookout tower offered great coastal and inland views. Well worth the time and a relaxing way to spend a few hours.

I love Botanic Gardens! Came here with my friend and husband (they both love plants and I like flowers) to explore.Admission is $18 which I found pretty high. I would think for that amount, there should be a bigger parking lot (we found parking on the side street, not even in the lot).The garden is huge though and we spent 2 hours exploring. There werent any water fountains (that we saw) and I was dying of thirst after walking so much and emptied out our water bottle!The greenhouse had really cool plants like the corpse plant and a helpful and creative display of how to care for your plants and visual examples of them.I have to say, the gift shop was a little disappointing and didnt have too much stuff. They definitely sell a lot of plants though.On our exploration of the gardens, it is easy to get lost and miss lots of things cause there is so much to see! From a blue lined lizard to the real tree house with a great view and lots of different fruit and flower trees!Admission price is high but I will say there is plenty to see and walk around. It definitely helps to bring a hat or umbrella.

This is a wonderful place to visit if you are into flowers, plants, and gardens. I am a member of this place and it is so worth it. Located in the beautiful Encinitas, it has plenty of free parking.The garden boasts of a 37-acre urban oasis, 4 miles of meandering trails and ocean views, 5,300 plant species and varieties, and 29 uniquely themed gardens that represent 15 different regions and many habitats of the world. It is also family-friendly with a childrens playground.They also protect and conserve many rare and endangered plants which I like.My favorite is the Mexican Garden, which displays agaves, salvias, prehistoric cycads, and festive topiary mariachis.Blooming in May: Sapphire Tower, Puya Alpestris. This plant draws crowds from miles away just to sneak a peek. Its dark metallic-like turquoise petals sharply contrast yet complement the vibrant orange anthers, with a flower stalk reaching upwards of 5 feet tall. Find this magnificent plant in bloom near our South American Garden.On top of the flowers and plants, the garden also yoga classes both indoors and outdoors. I have attended the outdoor yoga classes at the African Garden and I enjoyed it immensely.Theres also an impressive seasonal lineup featuring outdoor concerts and live entertainment, a plant exhibition.

Excellent collection of plants in the conservatory and the rainforest area is truly a peaceful oasis. Great for the kids to run around and climb throughout the treehouse area. This is a review for light scape event that is running currently- Holiday season 2022. Depending on the size of your group it may not be worth the cost- our group was a total of 14 people in multiple cars. If this is your situation, you must coordinate on parking ahead of time as there are different parking lots and starting points on the loop. We ranged in age from 10-65. Most of us were underwhelmed. Would be a perfect date location for a fun walk and stop for drinks along the way. There are at least three concessions stands serving wine, and also regular apple cider, coffee, and hot chocolate. There are some neat views but mostly just colored lights shining on the trees. Our favorite part was seeing an cork oak tree for the first time And being with family.

We had hoped Lightscape San Diego would be like the lights we saw at Descanso Gardens, but it paled in comparison. We paid $95.12 for two adult tickets, one child ticket, parking and their convenience fee. Parking was pretty easy; you just have to remember your lot color. At time of ticket purchase, we had to choose a time slot for entrance however, this didn’t matter as they didn’t check the time. It would have benefited them to stick to entrance times though since the garden was packed. It felt like we were being herded like cattle at some parts. Some walkways were narrow and there was no shortage of strollers, kids running in every which direction or people stopping mid walk to take photos or selfies. It made for a less enjoyable experience. The alcoholic beverages we purchased ($36 with tip) at their snack bar didn’t even help. The drinks weren’t great either. As far as the lights, there were a couple of areas that was impressive but otherwise, lights were sparse. Overall, it was a decent first new experience, but I wouldn’t recommend it nor would I do it again.

The reviews and ratings dont lie! What a beautiful place to be. We came to see the magnificent corpse flower. We had an amazing experience. The garden is tended to by many friendly and knowledgeable employees. Not only its a food for soul, but the garden is also kid friendly. Theres plenty of places to run, discover and even a few play structures. Definitely coming back and recommend!

Wonderful place to roam around and bask in the sun. Enjoy nature with family and friends. Lots of wonderful plants and flowers around the garden. ☺️ You can also do a picnic in any of the grass areas. We saw a couple having a picnic there. I suggest going there at around 3pm. It wasnt crowded at all when we went there. Buy tickets before-hand. Visit the dome and have your picture taken in one of the posts there where you can put your phone and set it on timer. Fun!

Let me start off by saying that this place is gorgeous and extremely well taken care of. The variety of plant species blew me away. The only thing that was a negative was that I’m handicap, wheelchair bound, and had a hell of a time getting around. The hills in this place are brutal. You better show up with someone strong to push you around or have a scooter! They don’t mention any of this on their website. It is only about 50% handicap accessible. The only thing that is accessible is the main path but again the hills are brutal. Make sure to plan ahead!

I had a great experience 5 years ago when I was pregnant! We came here with around $12 tickets. Then we added few dollars more to stay up for the lightening and santa! Since then, I always wanted to bring my kid to have a same experience and see the santa! However today’s experience was totally different! Actually it was embarrassing! Since we came into the garden the staff kept reminding us that they are gonna close at 4! One guy over there was super rude he was super disrespectful! We asked to pay more and stay longer, they said the tickets were sold out! I’m so sorry for the management but you should have a way to either not having such a event for the people who are inside the garden or have it for everyone! This was a terrible experience

If you are a plant lover, this place is just amazing. If you like walking through a green forest or a bamboo grove, you will equally love this place! The area this place covers is quite huge. They also rent out certain areas of the gardens for events. I just love going through the different areas of the garden. They hold plant shows in their huge glass greenhouse! There are also booths where you can buy rare and popular household plants. Just a spectacular place!

First time here and glad we came. Its like a 4 mile loop but theyve done a great job of sectioning it off into categories and placing numerous benches throughout. Plenty of spots to take a quick break and enjoy the views.There a couple lily ponds, a waterfall, and quite a few areas for photos. We packed a small cooler for sandwiches and drinks, and got to eat on a bench under a grape tree!The plant varieties were countless and in well placed habitats. There were sections for California, Africa, Australia, New Zealand, South America, and plenty of gardens. Definitely worth spending 2-4 hours...bring your comfy shoes!

Been going here since I was a little kid about 20 years ago. Its been some time since Ive been and its changed a lot. There was a really cool carnivorous plants exhibit at the new entrance, but there were definitely some areas that were a little lacking in care. We tried to walk along one part of the path and had to do some light bushwhacking though the weed. I wasnt even sure that it was an actual trail until I saw some placards beside some of the plants. Childrens garden area was still very nice though.Not quite as good as I remembered, but Jeff was so incredibly patient and kind and even let me enter for free after my mom was a bit stressed out over other things and was feeling a bit frustrated at understanding if her online membership payment went through. The botanic(al?) garden was beautiful and we enjoyed the wide variety of plants and wandering paths. The one thing that bugged me was poor signage, however. The garden could use more large maps throughout the property, as it was hard to orient ourselves and not get kind of lost. There were also a number of plants that had no explanatory sign about what they were, which is kind of the point of a botanical garden, I’d think.

My family and I went for the night Lightscape. We liked the lights. The trail was a good length with a lot of different lights and scenes. Theres a lot of photo opportunities. But there was so many people and the trails are thin, its almost like walking in a line the whole trail.

The San Diego Bontanical Gardens is a wonderful collection of plants from all over the world nestled in the foothills of Encinitas.Acres of trails lined with trees, shrubs and flowers are waiting to be explored. If you are a nature enthusiast, it truly deserves a visit at least once in your lifetime.It was nice getting to explore the various themed sections of the garden, and view the names of all the unique plants and flora. There is also a childrens exploration section, complete with treehouse and bridges/overlooks. Views of the Pacific Ocean are available at the back of the garden.Overall, my family had fun exploring for a few hours at the garden and photographing some of the more interesting or beautiful plant species.Parking was free and their website recommends a reservation in order to ensure admission on busier days. Be sure to check admission pricing online as well.

Its nice they have the Reciprocal Membership, since we are members of another botanical garden. They have a discount for seniors too. We went on a nice overcast day in July, which was perfect. Lots of places and sections to explore and wander. We enjoyed the Conservatory, Childrens garden and tree house, subject garden, bamboo garden and we caught a ride on the little shuttle which was nice! Nice lady that drives it too.

Great place. Much larger than I thought…..I was certain there would only be like 15 minutes worth of plants and trees to see. Not a botanist or anything, but I was very impressed by the shear amount of species they have literally hundreds from every continent of the world. Well worth the time and money. So much for the eyes to look at and allot of trails to wander along. Its a little pricey but they allow picnic lunches and theres lots of shaded benches to relax on. Its very clean and the restrooms are plentiful. The kids play area is jam packed with fun stuff and the 3 story treehouse is amazing. Ill definitely be back in the future.

A fantastic place to spend much more time. We wandered happily for over four hours and I think we saw maybe half of the various garden areas. We did get distracted by the excellent augmented reality art exhibit that is distributed through much of the garden. Very glad to find that it has almost all of its yearlong run still in front of it. A great experience! Lots of benches scattered throughout the gardens making it possible to sit a few moments and enjoy the wonderful trees and flowers. There are several little ponds throughout...one pond even had turtles living in it! Theres also art pieces stragically placed throughout. Younger visitors will enjoy the kids area and activities. My only word of caution would be regarding the dirt trails within the gardens. The main pathways are paved, but the trails that branch off from the main pathways are not.

We went to the holiday Lightscape event this year. They allow entrance rain or shine. We happened to have tickets for an evening when there was drizzle. There was no problem using an umbrella through the trail. We enjoyed walking around the lights show for about an hour. It was a fun experience with the lights and music. I do not know if it is worth the $29 entrance fee to return for a second time but we were glad to have tried it!

Accessibility: the parkings lots are on gravel (small rocks) and some of the sidewalks cut off so they lead into the dirt and woodchips instead of crosswalks for streets and intersections. When checking in there was a line but Im not sure if there always is...this week there was a rare event happening. Once you get inside the gardens (all outdoor area), there are paved pathways you can stay on to look at all types of flowers, plants, trees, and even a waterfall (the employees said). I did not see any wheelchairs to borrow or rent (I wish they had this option). There are golf carts that are supposed to come by the benches around the park and pick people up to help them get to locations if they cant walk but I think they are understaffed or just extra but on special event days so you might end up having to go places yourself without help. I dont know if this place is open on rainy days but I dont think it would be a great place to go in the rain because there are really no covered areas.Experience: I was so excited to see the Corpse Flower bloom and it was definitely cool. I was thankful it was right inside the front entrance so I didnt have to go far. After seeing this, it was harder for me because I wanted to go to the rest of the park but didnt get to because I couldnt walk. I sat at one of the bus stop benches inside the park and the first time a golf cart came by it was full so they said they would pick me up when they came around again. I waited maybe 10-15 minutes and they came around again, with ANOTHER full cart and they told me I should walk if I can. Well unfortunately I cannot walk even though Im young. So I had to go all the way back to the exit without seeing anything else in the park. I wanted to see the waterfall but it was all uphill to get there and on uneven dirt paths. I went home feeling glad I saw the Corpse Flower but upset I didnt get to see anything else.

I got family passes and wed never been to this one before. My boyfriend loves botanical gardens and we were able to enjoy a really nice evening walking through and exploring. The volunteers were so friendly and even let us peek around an area that closed for a special event while they were setting up. We even stopped by the kids area to see what all was happening over there and the jungle gym was kind of amazing. We of course had to check it out and had fun climbing around.

With your yearly pass you get 2 additional passes for friends or family so we were able to take the in laws. Plus you get access to other parks around the country. This is a well appointed - albeit basic - botanic garden. Nice for a stroll. There is not much in the way of educational components, but they do have a nice variety of areas. Be aware this is not a huge place, you can walk the whole thing in an hour. But it is nice.

Great place to learn about native Californian plants as well as plants from across the world! The cacti and succulents are great here! Dont miss the Undersea Cacti and Succulent Garden across their parking lot, near the administration bldg.

Great garden in Encinitas area. I used the San Diego Museum Month pass and got in for half price ($9). $18 is a bit pricey if you ask me, but the grounds are very well-kept and maintained. The tropical fruit area smelled delicious and it soon morphed into the tropical jungle area nestled in a large grove of towering trees. There were plenty of places for kids to run around while honing their green thumb skills. Parking wasnt an issue, but I could see it becoming very hectic in peak hours.

I visited with several family members: my wife, my daughter, and my mother. When I entered the premises, I thought that the admission fee seemed high for such a small exhibit. It turned out I was only looking at the gift shop! These gardens are vast. We explored for hours, and we couldnt have seen more than a quarter of the premises. The rainforest section was gorgeous. We found a climbable tree house for kids, and theres even an alphabetic herb exhibit. Something for everyone, and were just getting started!

Lady CC diary is a series on Amazon Kindle for free! This garden as well as the cactus garden nearby is a wonderful find in Balboa Park, I believe? If not take a check out of the Rose garden on cactus garden at Balboa Park! I have been to this botanic garden if it is not around there... I was younger, and thank you for the experiences that all these places around. San Diego is definitely worth visiting, and please bring friends! There are plenty of sites to see, and you will definitely need a break.

This garden has just gotten better over the years. Great place to spend 1-3 hours with the kids. Extremely well done climbing tree covered in real plants, water play area, look out point, large waterfall, three tier model railroad, oh and well maintained gardens.

Amazing Botanical Garden. Has many different areas to explore and appreciate! Would highly recommend! What a beautiful adventure we had at the San Diego Botanic Garden! We live on the east coast and were very excited to see the different plants at the garden! There were so many beautiful plants, cacti, trees, flowers and succulents! The garden is huge and we spent over 2 hours walking around seeing it all! There were lots of busy bees keeping the flowers looking pretty and we also saw lots of hummingbirds zipping around! I highly recommend the Botanic Garden to anyone who appreciates nature, you wont be disappointed. Admission was very reasonable, as well!

I went during the week and it felt like I had the park to myself. There is a small cafe with a selection of snacks and beverages. Limited sandwiches and ready-made salads are available. Its quite big, so bring good shoes.

Great place to see a huge variety of plants and gardens. Some Ive never seen. Definitely take your time as there is lots to see. Expect 2 to 3 hours. Reasonable entry fees ($12 for seniors) and you can bring a picnic lunch. They have specific areas for children that looked like a lot of fun. They are having a fall plant sale on Oct 19-20, 2019.

The greenhouse is a showstopper. Filled with incredibly gorgeous foliage - there’s so much to see inside this building. It’s a plant lover heaven. The rest of the gardens are also awesome to walk through.

Really nice place to see a whole bunch of nature. Well worth the trip and the entrance fee is for adults $18 and for kids $10. lots to see and can be around 2hours or more to walk the whole thing. Great place overall.

I grew up going to the San Diego Botanic gardens for school field trips and girls scout’s outings. I came back to gardens when searching for a new wedding venue (pandemic bride here!) and my husband fell in love with the beauty and uniqueness the garden’s has to offer. There are quite a bit of hills but overall the venue location is stunning. I was disappointed that we were not told that the walled garden had been cut down. We still had a beautiful (and sunny!) ceremony but would have appreciated knowing that the space had been changed. Other than that, we truly loved having our wedding here and received many compliments from our guests.

Came on a rather warm winter day. This is w great place to escape the mind numbing daily life of Stay At Home orders or Essential Worker. The garden smells great, enough space to minimize spread, and serene. Which that there were weekend deals. Great outdoor experience for children.

I was so impressed with these gardens I converted my day pass into an annual membership. 🌳🌴🌺The gardens does a great job packing in every imaginable flower and plant into every inch of the gardens grounds. They even had the corpse flower, something I only thought I would see in a documentary.The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Plus I loved how they designed parts of the garden to engage and educate children. I have never seen a botanical gardens do it this well. Bravo!I am only disappointed that I waited over a year to visit them since moving here.
