2023-05-24 01:39:14The lady did ask me for my identification card for my service animal but she said never mind since I chose to eat outside. *Note* businesses shouldn’t ask you for paperwork or identification for your service animal. Overall the staff there was very friendly and very tentative. The staff were being genuine when they waited on you, that kind of service you can actually enjoy the food. Speaking of, the fish just melted in your mouth but I believe the rice was the star here. Made to perfection. I ordered the Chirashi bowl and the side dishes were delicious. I’m very happy with the service and the food. I am definitely coming back with my husband.

2023-03-12 04:56:30I’m traveling from out of town and I was looking for a sushi place near my hotel. Google brought me here. First impressions walking in the cashier lady was freaking out that their computers were down. I ask for the menu and sat down to look at it. I wasn’t approached by a waiter after 30 minutes mins even though it was just me and my sister and another family of 5. I start off by ordering the lunch combination. Once it arrived the chicken look dried and cold. Tastes horrible. I stop eating it. The tempura vegetable was cold. The salad dressing taste spoiled. My sister ordered the chicken soup with sopa noodles. She didn’t eat it because the noodle tasted like fish. I ask for a sea urchin sushi and when I got my order the seaweed wrap fell apart from the sushi. I had to use a fork to eat it off the plate. I ordered a half a dozen and only received 3. Here’s the kicker, while driving back to the hotel I felt sick. Nausea and my stomach was growling. I was in full blown sweat and diarrhea with food poisoning. So effin horrible😡 Beware of this place. Super overpriced and I have to travel back to the Bay feeling like ish! No good.

2022-11-29 16:19:10Okay so I absolutely hate to be this person but my boyfriend and I went here because we are on vacation and ordered quite a few things. A sushi bowl, a jalapeño roll, baked scallops, and the shishito peppers. The shishitos were very good but everything else was not. The fish in the sushi bowl was obviously old or had been sitting out. Nothing was at the right temperature and didn’t taste very good. We are not complainers so we didn’t say anything. The baked scallops I expected to actually have scallops in it but it was all veggie with scallops smaller than the size of a dime. Roll was decent but didn’t really taste like anything. Our server was good but the food was not. Not sure if you can tell from the picture but the fish was definitely old.

2023-03-25 05:22:19This used to be my favorite sushi restaurant for over 20 years. If you go, and want the original menu ask for chef Koba. If you’ve never been you wouldn’t know the difference but some of the new chefs have their own style and it’s different. Unfortunately it recently was sold to new ownership and the new chefs have destroyed the legacy of what used to be hands down one of the top 5 places to eat sushi in Orange County. I honestly almost cried the last time I went. Not even kidding when I say I used to come here at least once a month at a minimum. I don’t like writing bad reviews and wish them the best of luck but unless they bring the old chefs back it doesn’t stand a chance. This pic was of a shrimp boat which was the only thing that tasted the same. RIP my beloved Sankai.

2023-09-11 03:45:26Ive been going to this restaurant (inconsistently) for around 10 years now. Its almost like a comfort spot for me. Trust me when i say this, IVE NEVER HAD BETTER TERIYAKI SALMON. This place was the first teriyaki salmon Ive ever tasted, and it will probably always be the best. The fish is steamed so its juicy and goes perfectly well with the teriyaki sauce. I never eat salad at restaurants but this place is a big exception. The tofu salad is so good. The soba and udon are also so great and fulfulling. Im never dissapointed by this restaurant. The canadian roll and crunchy roll are also awesome. Please please PLEASE visit this restaurant its so worth it!

2022-02-10 00:10:11I stopped by San Kai for lunch for the first time, and it hit the spot. I ordered their lunch special, which was the bento box. It had a little bit of everything like sashimi, chicken, salad, salmon, and a tofu nugget. Also, my friend and I ordered their yellowtail sashimi with the jalapeño on top. Of course, I had to wash everything down with an iced cold Sapporo. 🔥This restaurant is located in the same plaza as Inka Mamas and Yogurtland off Bristol and Sunflower. Literally across the street from South Coast Plaza.

2022-05-31 04:00:40Good food and good customer service. Their super California roll is so tasty with baked eel on top, 15 bucks. Food took a little long to come.
