We ate here for dinner on 13 January 2019. We both had the all you can eat option for sushi. I had called earlier and was told a different price than what was posted on the menu (and it wasnt in our favor). We enjoyed the tempura, the miso and salad. The Sato mussels were interesting. We ordered 3 rolls and a variety of nigiri. The rolls were supposed to be fish over california rolls. The fish was minimal. The nigiri was disappointing; lots of rice and very small pieces of fish. The fish had very little taste and in some cases tasted just bad. We struggled to eat what we ordered (as wed be penalized if we didnt). We ended with some green tea ice cream. It was good. The wait staff was nice, but we wont be returning.
This place is simply amazing! The all you can eat sushi is an amazing deal. We had the Dynamite roll, the Chicken Katsu roll, the Che Guevara roll and the tempura roll. These are FULL ROLLS, mind you (6-7 pieces). And we had some Tamago (egg) as well. If you even come CLOSE to South Lake Tahoe between 5 & 10pm, you need to stop by!
Great Sushi that happens to be all you can eat. Always worth a stop after a day of boarding. Plenty of sake to go around, friendly and willing to please staff. Probably my favorite place to eat in Tahoe.
Sushi tasted slightly sour (suspect too much rice vinegar) . Service basically sucked. Some items we ordered we never did get without reason or explanation. Dont waste your time or money here. Go a few miles up the road to Sushi Pier
If they ever open up again Id definitely return. As of July 2019 theyre still closed. Its been closed for months ever since someone drove a car through the now boarded up front! They had good food and sushi at a good price. Theyre definitely in no rush to open up again...
Food was good. We got the all you can eat sushi they were nice. They watched us eat the whole time so it was pretty uncomfortable but other than that the service was great.
Worst sushi I have ever had. Way too expensive . My shrimp roll had so much rice you could barely find the tiny shrimp. Absolutely awful for $70.00+. Never go there.
Okay food for the price. Udon was really disappointing -- the noodle seemed it waa frozen for a long time and was disintegrated. We had the Sierra Mountains roll and it tasted great. The staff was friendly.
Friendly service, but poor presentation and terrible ingredients. I mean crab sticks? Seriously? Too much rice and they charged us for a kid who didn’t eat anything. Do yourself a favor and go to Sushi Pier instead
Small local place, sushi was very good and quickly made, also prices were reasonable. Sushi chefs at the bar were awesome and fun to talk to, and even made us a special roll, which was amazing!
Sushi is fresh and really great! Family owned business and these guys will really go out of their way to make your experience well worth it. Highly recommend.
Sushi was not the best but ok.. price was 24 dlls all you can eat which is good for tahoes prices.. the waiter included herself a 17% tip without asking though.. I usually dont tip that much, so I was not very happy with that.
This family-run restaurant has an amazing collection of vegetarian sushi options. Kid friendly. Reasonably priced (especially compared to other sushi places in the neighbourhood)
Service was good. My seafood tempura pieces were generally good with some fake crab. There was a piece of fish panko-deep fried which is not tempura.
All you can eat was once great, quality fish, not too much rice. Now is a subpar place where you know youd compromise quality for we quantity.
Overcrowded and understaffed. We were charged full price even though we didnt receive half the items we ordered. They we obviously overwhelmed. Busy season in Tahoe is a bad time to go.

If you wanna take sushi all you can eat, be prepared to seat there for an hour starving. Besides their sushis taste pretty lame.

Low prices advertised but other menu items are much more expensive with no price listed. They also nickle & some as they charge for basic things like tea by the person.
Beef teriyaki was ridiculously salty, supposedly boneless chicken teriyaki had bones, 2 were found within 30 seconds. All else was decent.

Less-than-mediocre all-you-can-eat sushi made with overwhelming, bland tasteless rice topped with finely cut fish scraps and avocados delivered with a slow service.
Good option for AYCE sushi if you dont want to drive into Nevada to Sushi Pier.

2019-01-16 06:23:15The nigiri and rainbow roll was probably the most viable option if you get the AYCE option. We were concerned about the cleanliness here, beyond the food quality being skimpy. I wouldnt recommend getting the shrimp tempura or fried crab (anything breaded I guess). It seems like this place used to be great and I hope for a great turnaround.

Our food was AMAZING!We got the all you can eat sushi deal and my mom and I ate till we were about to explode! 😂It doesnt LOOK very nice outside and theres limited parking spots, but its SO worth it! I heard its been open since the 90s, so thats gotta mean its worth keeping around!Highly reccomend it for those visiting South Lake Tahoe!

2018-04-18 03:41:02Dont let the shabby outdated decor turn you off the best Sushi in South Lake. This small restaurant has been operating under the same owner and sushi chef for 30+ years. Theres a reason for it. The menu is deep with traditional offerings as well as spectacular modern rolls. If your eyes are feeling bigger than your stomach, try the all you can eat special. Everything is delicious and well priced for the individual or a family looking for a night out. Enjoy!!

The rolls are pretty skimpy and not even rolled well; they fell apart quite easily. However, we were thankful for an easy takeout option that was not greasy or heavy and walking distance from our hotel.

2017-01-22 07:50:31My boyfriend and I tried Sato Japanese Restaurant on Saturday at 5:30PM. We were immediately greeted and we chose to sit at the sushi bar for the all you can eat section. There was 2 other couples there.All you can eat is about $25 per person. You mark which type of sushi you would like on the list that they give you. If you have any special requests, you write it in. Everything was made fresh and delicious! The staff was really nice and we only had to wait a few minutes for the first roll. We pretty much tried half the menu and nothing disappointed us. LolBy 6pm, the sushi bar was pretty busy, so you might want to call in advance if theres a wait time.My favorites were the baked mussels, rainbow roll, sato special, and the incredible roll; but take caution, the incredible roll has onions in it. :)

It is a very welcoming environment and everyone who works there makes you feel like family!! We will NOT go anywhere else. They are our first choice when it comes to sushi.

It had been a few years since we had been, yet we went to Sato’s for dinner tonight because it seemed like a safe bet and we used to love it. The food was never incredible, but it was good and very reasonable. Today the food was so bad it was inedible. It is really very sad this south lake classic has gone so downhill. One of the other places in town are a better bet for cheap decent sushi now.

We sat at a table and it took well over a half hour to be waited on, we asked the waitress several times for warm water to make our infant a bottle, before she finally came around with it. The menu included a laundry list of sushi rolls, most of which revolved heavily around tempura, very uninspired... Fish was not at all fresh, the Tuna was bad and the Yellow Tail (Hamachi) was brown, not the typical fresh light pink color, and I couldnt even bring myself to eat it. The rice was like glue, along with being crunchy at times and cold. Ive eaten Sushi all across the country, ranging from mediocre to stellar, and sadly this place was by far the worst. If the McDonalds a half mile down the street has better quality food than a sushi restaurant, something is most definitely wrong...

2019-01-19 03:30:43This eatery has a sushi bar as well as individual tables. It features a menu with a la carte items and various sushi as well as combination dinners and bento boxes. Service is attentive and prompt. The food is very tasty and well prepared. This restaurant in is a hidden gem.
