Its a nice park, great place to just relax in and escape the LA traffic! Wish there was a little bit more to do or see here, but all around grateful it exists. Got a reminder of that LA pollution by the river unfortunately

Fantastic family friendly park. Its beautiful and refreshing to take a walk around the lake. The days there are vendors are some of the most packed days. Finding a parking spot gets pretty challenging. With patients though, youll realize it was worth it. The playground seems a little small for the size of the park. Bird poop on the walkways, while avoidable, can become a problem on those busy days. Havent had a chance to rent a swan or the bikes just yet, but people seem to always be having a great time on those. Any bench along the walkway closest to the lake is amazing for people watching or relaxing. Kids love the easily climbable trees, and being outside there in general. I find this a perfect place to go to get your mind off of the mondaine, and cleanse my mental health. Youll find Be the reason someone smiles today signs sprinkled around the park, and I think that is just beautiful.
It would be hard to ever explore everything this park has to offer, from archery and cricket pitches, to RC airplane and sailboat areas, walking trails, fishing, paddle boating, a U.S. Armory, Japanese garden, off leash dog park, bike rentals, adaptive playground, amphitheater, running stream, and more…
Plentiful open space for flying rc aircrafts and driving rc cars. Plenty of shade and seating arrangements available for guests
Great spot for a picnic! It was 90° in the Valley but you wouldnt have known! The area by the bathrooms where we were was so lovely and shaded! There is plenty of parking and the bathrooms are clean! Great for the doggies to have fun too!

Beautiful lake with a wide cement walking path around the entire lake. Nice benches for sitting and enjoying the views. Lots of families use this area, great for picnics and relaxing and enjoy nature. Plenty of parking.
I loved it here! Not only did they have geese that were walking around freely it also had squirrels and stuff. My kids had such a blast running after the geese and squirrels not to mention climbing trees. It has a huge section full of picnic tables and their bathrooms are right next to them. The bathroom wasnt too bad and the park was very clean. They also had a basketball court area and plenty of open space for kids to just run around in. Over all experience here was great. Not a single complaint. :)

The Japanese Garden, such a beautiful, serene, peaceful place to take a walk and enjoy nature. They have a dirt path you walk on and there are benches to stop and sit on as well as ducks/geese in the lake, No swimming though.
Love it! So peaceful! Love just to go breath clean air! Listen to the birds, water, wing! Its clean, well maintained, no so many people, quiet, Im able to walk, enjoy it! With out being bothered! even though is close to the city, for me is like a fresh air, where I go to fill my batteries!😊
Great place to go for a walk and take in the nature
So much to do around this whole area. Balboa lake or even the wildlife reserve that has a pond and the L.A river running through it. Its all amazing can even feel like youre not in the valley anymore in some areas. I love to fish the lake and the river for massive carp and photograph the animals and plants.

Nice place to go for a walk! Did the 5 mile loop around Balboa Park/Lake area. The walk was long but very easy, almost all of it has side walk and bike lane available and as long as you have sunscreen and maybe a hat to block the sun you are all set! Make sure to take a water bottle, we saw many water fountains along the way though in case you forget. We saw so many little creatures like praying mantis, huge spiders (up in the trees so just keep away from branches, especially on the fruit trees along Burbank Blvd.) Squirrels, hawks and of course all the dogs being walked as well!
My go to for a nice outdoor date, relaxation, or a great day off with the family. Clean, spacious, popular, and makes you feel away from the city life and everyday routine. Perfect place to learn how to skate, ride a bike, and exercise 👍🏼
This place is sooo lovely! After being cooped up for so long due to the pandemic, walking around and admiring the wildlife was extremely therapeutic.P.S.Be sure to wear comfy shoes you dont mind getting dirty!
My son plays soccer here every Sunday. So I only visit the soccer fields. But the whole area seems to be buzzing with activity. Lot of joggers, bikers and people. Im sure theres much more to do here than I even know
I Park here occasionally in the process of my moms house being sold. Didnt have a Pro Basketball program for awhile but aspiring to make it. I have a feeling people that parked there may have stole misplace my hat idk to be honest. Whered it go but some people Park there to recover. I figured its near an army base so itd feel safer
So many things to do here! Japanese Garden and always a wonderful place for a car show on the grass and under the trees!
Mixed paved and dirt paths for biking. Mostly flat and easy ride, except area riding up to the other side of the dam. We rode close to 10 miles. Lots to see with so many activities this park offers.
Balboa Park is a nice man made lake and recreation area. It is amazing how many great under utilized parks there are in SoCal, I would count this among those. It has lush rolling green hills a kin to a golf course with character, it has a surprising amount of space to be within this densely populated an area. I would recommend, its a nice spot to stop and feed the ducks or have picnic.
For natures view its always 5-stars, but its crowded especially on the weekends. It has a big playground, and a good picnic area. The bathrooms are mostly dirty though. Closes at sunset.
The Apollo 11 airfield is fabulous
I got to know this lovely park thanks to a client booking a portrait session with me and wanting to shoot there. It quickly became one of our favorite spots to have family picnics, to enjoy outdoors and the playground next to the lake. I prefer fall and winter days as the summer can get quite hot, and I really dont like to be next to the water if I cannot dip in. Definitely a wonderful place to take a stroll, to ride your bike or simply to just enjoy life.

Fun area to explore - You can get a nice hike in over the dam and extend your walk especially if you take the little tunnel across Burbank Blvd to the lake. Unfortunately - a couple of fires over past few fire seasons has taken its toll - several areas are badly burnt but still passable. I usually park at the golf course down the street and walk over but there is street parking on Woolley and a small lot off Burbank Blvd as well.

Drive to the end of the road, park near the last set of bathrooms, and hike toward the lake. A nice mile or so loop around the lake and you’ll see an astounding variety of birds, especially out on the island. Much of the area has been recently burned, so there’s little shade… wear a hat and sunscreen.

We have so much fun here. Three of us tried the boat rental. $10 per and $5 per kid. They don’t rush you and even though it was on Sunday and there were many boats out it didn’t feel busy.Oasis in the busy Los Angeles in the middle of the ring of fire (101 and 405).

Lots of open space with a hiking path around the small lake. There is a resident flock of Canada Geese that lives there year round.

Review for July 2020. I remember when this Lake was being built back in the early 90s I used to go there as a kid. This park lake is now visited by hundreds and hundreds of people daily. Im not guilty, to say Its a nice park to walk around and to picnic in. So many great memories here. One time I even watched a movie with my ex girlfriend in her car. We watched The Notebook it was a beautiful time with her I will never forget. Nevertheless, great place to come visit and to relax and to meditate .

Love riding my bike around this park. Very clean and beautiful during spring and summer. Just be sure you have an extra tube because I find that theres a lot of thorns on the bike path that punture my wheel. Other than that I love bringing my little niece for riding bikes. Very safe.
Not well maintained. Trees around lake infested, literally, with swarms of gnats that were hard to remove after inadvertently just walking on path and boom... Not pretty... Convenient but thats it. Bike path, yes, but got admonished for walking on it... But its NOT marked!
Such a beautiful park, great place to walk, ride a bike, feed the ducks, fish, paddle boat, relax and eat a snack or sit at a bench and just take in the scenery.
There were soccer and other events in the fields however, both restrooms were locked up. 100+ people with no facilities! What is the purpose of that?
The views are spectacular. Nice trails. Not too busy. Dog friendly.
Nicely layed out facility with 4 softball fields. The outfields are lumpy so make certain to review the area you are going to be in. The infield on diamond 2 is pretty soft. Better than hard to avoid tricky bounces. The bathrooms are terribly dirty. This place overall is setup nice but, it needs maintenance. No surprise that the city isnt maintaining with all the money LA takes in.😞

This use to be a fantastic environment. To walk your dog, bike just wonderful. It has been going down for sometime and there is no relief. Garbage, unleashed dogs. I see the reviews and can only believe they are visiting the lake and gardens. The perimeter of the park is an eyesore and I sometimes feel unsafe.

This place is great for taking family and friends for a walk or even the kids. Seniors often are seen here as well getting their exercise in, great place to take a run around the lake. Although this place can use more maintenance and defoliation. The wildlife is very seasonal, different species can be seen during different seasons.

At a loss for something to do, you can find a bunch of inexpensive activities at the sepulveda basin. This SFV retreat is a local favorite where you will find Balboa Park, Woodley Golf Course, and the trails for biking, jogging, roller skating, and walking. Theres even a fish filled lake that you can circle on foot, about a mile around. Go it alone, with a dog (on leash), friends, or your family. At the lake, you can fish or take a paddle boat but theres no swimming. This park area is vast. Picnics are popular here, with plenty of open spaces, and large grassy areas; the trees are abundant offering natural shade. Easy to find picnic tables sprinkled thoughout the park. Ive seen people barbequeing. There are other areas in the park where groups gather for special events. Vendors sell food, drinks and snacks. Bring a folding chair or blanket or roller skates. I enjoy my visits here because I can walk along the lake or on the trails. Ride my bike or just relax in a chair near the lake to vegetate. You can also purchase food from the golf course restaurant (19th hole), the burgers are pretty good. This place gets pretty busy during summer months, but in the fall, winter, and spring the crowds dissipate. Mornings are nice for a jog. Closes at dust. A safe public place where you can to chill. Plenty of parking.

There are three 18 hole golf courses plus parks, sports fields and open space. They cant build there because its a flood plain. I go there to golf. I like all three courses. There easier than many courses because there flat, wide and forgiving. They are also inexpensive to play but demand is high so getting T-times is tough.
Sepulveda Basin Recreation Area is a beautiful and great outdoors area to visit in the San Fernando Valley.
Well maintained, though the creek could use a sweep to remove litter. Im thinking about going back with a bag to pick up some things. Field is nice, lots of clover, bees, and sunshine.

Love the Japanese gardens every time i go especially when the plants are blooming. The 2-4$ extra for the TEA when they are serving it is totally worth it to sit in the tea house.
I grew up exploring the LA River and the basin is the headwaters. I used to catch an amazing variety of animals down there bluegill, catfish, minnows, enormous bullfrogs, huge crayfish. What I remember the most was there were these goldfish down there, literally thousands of them but these ones were different, they looked like Koi. Exact same coloration the oranges, blacks, white and gold. They averaged about 6 to 8 inches and the schools of these fish were enormous. Thats all gone now since they put in the water treatment plant, it hasnt been the same. The water got slow and warm, great for mosquitoes but not fish. Although, now there are turtles in the section north of Burbank and Ive seen some pretty big fish jumping, probably just regular carp. Now they got these huge birds: gray herons, great egrets, every duck species Ive ever seen, cormorants and seagulls and pelicans its kind of amazing -all the fish are gone, and then these birds show up. Nowadays, I go down to the section between Burbank and the dam looking for fossils in the sand bars and I find a lot. This whole San Fernando valley used to be in inland Sea and I find all sorts of shells fossilized crabs, sea sponges and occasionally turtles all in really good condition except theyre 16 million years old imagine that its crazy.If youre going to go down there wear your shoes at all times. Do not go barefoot anywhere. Stay away from the homeless people they are usually pretty mellow but still, you never know. Plus, whenever theres a meteor shower or a lunar eclipse or some sort of night time astronomical event, even 4th of July, the view is pretty good but you can find a really dark sky if youre down in the basin along Woodley. Night time viewing conditions are better there than anywhere up in the mountains. But, if you are there late at night, its amazingly cold even in the summer. dress warm. Thats about it.

Great place to go for a walk and fish but people leave their trash and dirty diapers all over! Also some church group goes on sunday morning taking up all the parking spaces in the first parking lot off Balboa that regulars like me use, been going 10-15 years. Please park in the bigger lot

Big big park tons of space. Parking is limited though especially when full parking lots are small. You can park along the side but also limited or in the dirt parking but will require to walk which can be long depending what of the Park your going. Park has great features big lake in the middle,playground,walk around the lake. Ride the swan boat in the lake fishing also allowed. Located next a golf course and la recreation main center. Park would get a 5 star if it was a little cleaner but overall park is great 👍
Dog park except no one enforces the small timid dog area so we are constantly leaving because the big dogs start fighting.

As far as it goes for me, I always love nature and places to go away from city life. We need more these parks and places to relax at.
I can only speak to the bike path that runs the outer edge. It’s good to have it, and at almost 5 miles for a loop it’s a great distance for runners and cyclists. Good to have the Orange Line run through here too! But it’s a shame it’s beside the road for so much, and that such a large part of the park is barely accessible without a car, or taken up with an efficient and wasteful golf course.

Best park in LA. Love to watch cricket games and walk around fields. Golf course with putting green at night. Archery field. (Club is known for being klanish.) Lake Balboa has large bass, catfish at night, nice walk.This is a great resource. Mariachi bands on Saturday at parties. Musicians come to practice. I come from 100 miles north.
Nice park to have a picnic or walk the trails. Make sure to take a buddy/ dog on those trails. Public bathrooms towards end of park.
I love this part of the park because its green grass year round. Although there is a dog park very close by my tiny dogs dont like that it is dirt they love grass so I bring them to this field the love how big and empty it is. In weekends there are soccer games and you cant really use the fields but Monday- Friday theyre empty

I love my park so much ! There are the few irresponsible owners that do not pick up after their dogs, which makes it awful for everyone. However the great people there end up cleaning up after them. Vast running areas3 different size gated areas1. Small dogs, 2. timid, 3. large ... have made amazing friends. My dog cries all the way in car to get to the park. She absolutely looks forward to every day. This park is truly a blessing 🙏

Peaceful space with a bunch of picnic tables, wide walkways, and open grassy areas. There is a professional sized soccer field here and 2 baseball fields. Theres plenty of parking. Theres no kiddie type recreational equipment here.

Needed a restroom break, exited the freeway at Balboa and came up on this park. I was so pleased and stayed for over an hour! Parking was close to the restroom which was close to a lake with ducks! It was a pleasant little break in our trip! Ill go there next time Im traveling by!

One of the largest dog parks in LA. Great for big dogs. Only downside is the level of maintenance, especially during this drought. Most of the grass is gone so it gets pretty dusty.
We love this Park theres alot of space to do your activities, u can rent famimy bicicles or Swan boats,, the playground is big for the kids& and they close at sun Set, so rn theyre closing at 8, 815pm
Field needs lighting repairs on southeast side of field.The turf field does not appear to be draining properly.Otherwise, the group I play soccer with are a great bunch of guys on-and-off the pitch.
Encino farmers market is a great place. They sell great quality produce, even duck eggs. The market is open Sundays only.
I was going down the Orange Line bike path with my son. It was a nice shady ride for the most part up and down Victory Blvd. Good outing for pass time.
District garden clubs meet at the community garden area. Lovely collection of gardens.
Thus place is what it is, nothing too exciting or worth a higher rating. The reason for this rating is due to the streets and entrances to the park. It isnt very well mapped out and seems super dangerous. Im surprised that there arent more accidents here.

Has a very large recreational area a bike trail picnicking area a largely which you can ride bolts on and also fish and also has a bird sanctuary where you can watch the birds and their natural habitat. You can also go on the creek and walk on the actual LA River near the dam just a very large huge open space where you can get away from it all I would definitely recommend visiting on a Saturday afternoon or anytime you just want to go someplace where you can think.

We went this park a huge car event they have every year two time a year, call spring fling car show/swap. The park itself is nice and huge. Plenty of picnic tables.The car show there was awesome.

This is a beautiful, well maintained sports park. There are soccer fields, baseball/softball diamonds, walking trails, picnic tables and ample parking. Its a great spot for athletes as well as non-athletes, spectators or just someone looking for a quiet place to relax and enjoy nature. The squirrels and birds can be quite entertaining.
I met up with old friend park was good relaxing I enjoyed my run at pearl peacefully.
This area is starting to need to me so I think its good because they were overcrowded and each other into sports baseball soccer football you name it so now they got their own separate ball fields which makes better anybody can watch whatever game they want never seen anything violent or anything lately that I can think of but in my yard day so I used to go there in the larger parking lot for the swimming pool was I believe and have I time this week are closed coming there in the late 70s mid-seventies it was really nice until the car clothes started becoming gang members and the next thing you know they closed it off no more cars like that going in there theres more cops in their going out and then put it anywhere else he just got a spot there there

Great quick visit. Lots of food and music. Many celebrations happening. Has a good walking area. Bathrooms all closed except for 2 stalls; quite a line.
Great park to walk and jog. I usually like to walk the perimeter of the park onto the side of the streets.Im not a big fan of walking around the lake due to the tremendous amount of poop.Other than that, great park to visit by yourself, with someone or with your child or children.

Great park to spend your day. You can walk around the lake. Ride a bike or just sit to watch the sunset. Theres a lot of food options out there (if is something you might like) sometimes not that clean but still good enough.

My kids love this park, but its really gone downhill. There was a group of adults celebrating a birthday smoking pot right next to the playground blaring music. I guess there are no rules anymore.
It was our 1st time there. Lots to do we started with having lunch then the kids playing on the swings. Then took a walk around the lake it was fun seeing all the ducks and feeding them! The kids had a blast. Great place to have a picnic or bbq.

I recently moved to the area and saw a dead person covered with a sheet in the corner of the park (driving by) before police erected a tent. I live near this park and won’t visit it. One entire road has RV’s and cars parked and it looks very sketchy.
Love the 2.3 mile walk around the lake. Paddle boat rentals in you are into that. Lots of picnic tables and parking.Update: Paddle boats are closed. Not sure if its for winter or covid protocol. Birds and turtles dont seem to mind.Water seemed real clear today and lots more fish were visible.
Great low-cost fun miniature golf, 3 different courses to choose from.Plenty arcade games to play, had a great game out,nice fun all ages.

Beautiful parks around this general area of Lake Balboa. And very nice areas to bring the family too. One can enjoy nice walks, jogs, bike rides or just hang out in and around these areas.
Back to nature in a real way. I was walking through the park one morning and across a (three foot) 3-foot long monitor lizard doing push-ups in the early morning sunshine. I was shocked by its sheer size...i didnt know the park had such animals...great place to take the family on a weekend hike, or visit to beautiful Lake Balboa where they have paddle boat rides and RC (remote control cars, planes etc.) recreation..available top the public. Gave a great day!

Pretty peaceful, was looking for the Japanese garden, but it is closed during this time. Water is kind of dry and there are homeless hidden within it, and the water is kind of dirty/polluted, but otherwise, it feels safe if you stay out of those places.Im giving this 4 stars instead of 3 just because it feels safe when you stick to the common places.
Dog Park needs maintenance and new grass. Its a good place to let your dogs socialize and run, run, run!
Very nice park with lots of baseball/softball fields. Bathrooms werent up to normal par this past Friday. Theyre usually well stocked and maintained.
Saw some guys hit a duck at the creek with a stick. He ran off with it back to his Black Jeep.

Huge park with grassy hills and a lake you can rent paddle boats on. Multiple kids play areas. Many barbecue areas. The place is never too crowded. Might be a little tricky finding the place if you are not from the area, but it is not to say it is difficult to locate. Bathrooms are well maintained. Honestly this has to be one of my favorite spots in the San Fernando Valley. Highly recommend for family outings.

A very unique place to visit and shoot..
Best place in the valley to get a break from the city. You can sit in a park bench by the lake and take in the views or go for a stroll on one of the numerous trails and walkways. Picnic much? If so this is a must do. So much to offer... adjacent to two golf courses and Woodley Park... there are archerys, a cricket field and a wildlife lake too.
Lobster was overflowing, but the choices were limited . Expected sort of like the Hilton buffet in Los Angeles

I enjoyed my time here with friends and family for a barbecue and can only share positive feedback. I got to play sports and go for a walk despite walking my dog and Friends dogs together. The best time to come to this park is around noon in order to utilize the warm weather especially when summer is coming. If youre looking to enjoy cooler weather I suggest arriving later afternoon time towards evening but then again you have less time here because the park closes at a certain time which of these here with us time.

2023-07-19 20:45:25An absolute gem in the valley. A beautiful lake you can fish in. Theres also some swan boats you can rent for 12 dollars a person. Huge amount of green throughout. Youll see wild critters all around and maybe even get a chance to feed some ducks. Great place to setup for a picnic

2023-03-18 20:38:44Lake Balboa is a great spot for a relaxing walk. The circumference is 1.3 miles with lots of benches and shade. This is only one part of the Sepulveda Basin rec area which includes a Japanese garden, archery, RC flight field and 2 golf courses.. with all the rain, today was just exceptional!

2022-06-18 19:50:26The place has bike rentals and paddle boat rentals (swan) which can accommodate four riders.Food vendors are everywhere so getting hungry and thirsty while visiting the area is not a problem.There are also souvenirs shops and jewelry sellers (just dont touch the merchandise if youre not buying 🤣)People are celebrating parties around the park, renting out tents, bouncy castles etc.Nice place to jog, rest, hangout.

2023-03-19 00:50:18This place is awesome and gigantic. The sepulveda basin has two golf courses a bike track that goes all the way around them, and a remote control airplane airport. Theres also a drone course there. I spend all my urban hiking in the sepulveda basin walking around the golf course and meeting new and interesting people who are doing the same. I love the driving range which is where I went today. Im a little bit nervous about going back out on the golf course cuz I havent played in 5 years, but Im definitely going to go hit one of their two golf courses in the next week. Ill try to update my review after I play the courses to let you know the playing conditions and the golf course manicuring.

2023-07-09 16:32:12#Fantastic #hot #weekend 2 cycle on #Swan #boats 😊For 2023 our group was much, much bigger; 4 white canopies, bags, and bags of ribs and baby backs, home made greens, potatoes salad, macaroni salad, homemade asian salad, home made Greek salad, etc.There was I see everything diet, where I could not eat another morsel.We walked around the lake, we played board games, cards and chess. We rode electric bikes and peddled in the swan boats in group of four which was roughly nine boats. FUN, FUN, FUN... the heat did not detour fun. 💯🤗🤓🎂🌞
