Went today after a day after the aquarium and boardwalk even when we came in an hour before close and left 5 minutes before the service was wonderful the food was great and I even got a free green tea mochi for my birthday! 10/10 nice vibes wonderful service and even better food!
Yummy Korean food, they need more servers though. The food was hot and delivered quickly which was a bonus. The kimchi and bean sprouts sides was the highlight for me they were delicious the best i’ve had in who knows how long!

Probably the only korean food place in Santa Cruz that serves true Korean food that is good enough for my parents taste. Price is modest and the serving protion is just right for per person.They have tofu&spicy pork and rice wine to make it into a perfect match.only downside was small parking but its santa cruz. also they use porcelain pot instead of stone pot.
I’m sad that this place has really gone downhill for takeout, they are the only Korean place in town for Tteokbokki and one of the only places for Galbi ribs. I will eat there dine-in and change my review if the food improves I’ve heard it’s much better when dining in but I’ve been met with rubbery, tough meat with no flavor, a recent rib experience made me so sad I thought I’d warn others.
Pretty decent Korean food. The kimchi stew had good flavor and came out nice and hot. Wish they had a bit more of a sides assortment though.
The menu can be a little difficult to navigate but with the help from the friendly staff you’ll be sure to find something. The hot bibimbap was delicious and felt like a healthy alternative to traditional American entrees I’m used to.
The food is excellent!! and the staff is friendly although somewhat inattentive. It should be noted that their menu and hours are limited, but thats probably because theyre still relatively new, hopefully they will grow these out in the future.
Ordered bibimbap and seafood ramen. The ingredients were not fresh, and the Ramen is just instant noodle. We were utterly disappointed.

We catered Sesame Korean Grill for our daughters wedding rehearsal dinner and it was fantastic. They provided more than we expected in terms of the service, quality of food presentation, generous portions, and most importantly the quality of the food was outstanding. Ordered cold bibimbap. The meat, or something else in the plate, tasted and smelled as if it had been sitting in the fridge for three days at least. I could not finish my plate.

Nice restaurant that has plenty of offerings of both Japanese and Korean cuisine. Staff were very friendly and helpful in ordering. The only thing that wasnt good were the chicken wings, which were undercooked and lacked flavor. But the KBBQ options were really great and Id definitely come back again to try the sushi as well
I wanted to rate this restaurant well but unfortunately I could not. We arrived when they were not busy and they took around 30 minutes to take out order. They wouldn’t have even noticed we were there if someone else would have not mentioned it. They never asked if we wanted refills and were ignoring us the whole time. I don’t want to say it was a race thing, but it totally felt like it. We waited about 1 hour and a half and never received our food. Meanwhile, even one else that got there after us received there food no later then 10 minutes after they ordered. When we finally got tired of waiting, we asked for our check and they were going to give us the check for the food that we NEVER got. When the waiter realized we never received the food she told us that the tea was free. Super upsetting because we honestly excited to try the food there.
Sesame Korean Grill:I must pass the word, I do recommend it,Which stew bowl do I recommend? Of course the beef stew served with a new type of noodles that I never seen, delicious though, were are ooh sure, and beef meat that seem to be be boil with the beef bone to enrich taste and energy,Ooh boy how I like this bowl. Is saved in my favorite list to go visit again. I asked for a wine, what happened next? They offered me a traditional Korean rice wine I thought it would come in a glass or drinking similarity, but to my brain surprise it was on a huge bowl! AhhhhGreat I got a to go container to take even for later. Very satisfied very energized afterwords especially when one has 3 boys they ate soup too ooh boy they got doable the energy.! Lol I recommend!
The outdoor seating was nicely spaced out, and all servers were masked. The service was attentive. My spicy seafood noodles (jampong) were delicious. And their complimentary kimchi is so yummy - some of the best Ive had in recent memory! Highly recommend this place!
I would never go to this place again! We took three different meals and all of them were bad. My friend got food poisoning from the chicken wings that werent well cooked. This is the first time I am leaving a review because this was one of the worst experiences I had.

Really tasty place! I absolutely love Korean food and have been spoiled by the delicious authentic Korean food of Oakland, so thats why Im only giving 4 stars. Like many Santa Cruz restaurants, Sesame has taken a slight spin on a couple of things, but remained fairly authentic. Otherwise its so wonderfully delicious with excellent service and a nice atmosphere. You can tell the owner really cares about each customer. Will definitely be coming back!
We went to this place for the first time on Thanksgiving Day. The service and food were both amazing. It was really fast and delicious. Everything we had was just the right amount of spicy. We will definitely be back!

One of my favorite places to eat or order takeout from. The food is delicious. Highlights include kimchi fried rice (comes complete with a fried egg on top) and soft tofu stew, perfect comfort foods for a rainy night or lazy day off. The Crispy Seaweed Rolls appetizer is a standout! They offer sake as well. Dine-in is a pleasant spot for a casual date night, takeout makes staying home tastier. Highly recommend.
Very good 🍲 soups unequaled anywhere else Ive eaten at. The szechuan noodle 🍜 soup is my favorite. The seating area is also unique and cozy. Friendly staff.

I have no idea why this place get such a a high rating. Couple things:1. We arrived at Thursday evening around 7:40, no seats available, I get it. But after we being seated it took more than 10 minutes for a waiter to come and greet us and ask what we want. Really?2. The food was not authentic as we think. Their pre-meal dishes was really poor, compared to other Korean restaurants provided multiple small dishes they only got three and the taste are quite different. The only best dishes I have was the entree pork belly was quite decent.3. I do hope the owner kinds improve their lighting in the dining area since it’s being too dark now.
IF YOU HAVE FOOD ALLERGY, PLEASE READ! The lesson here: you have to be extremely clear, emphasize your food allergy, and triple check because the people working at this place don’t communicate to each other! I have been to Sesame before and always enjoyed it. However what happened last night was really unprofessional. I asked if I can order seafood pancake without shrimp (I am allergic to shrimp). The waiter said yes they can make it without shrimp and jotted down no shrimp in my order. Pancake came out and I tried to check if there was any shrimp just to be extra cautious. I didn’t see any so I ate one piece. However, in my second piece I found 3 tiniest little shrimps. I showed one shrimp to the waiter and to one of the lady chefs. The lady chef denied at first but I insisted she need to recheck so she turned around and asked the other lady chef. The other chef confirmed yes it was shrimp. (I was horrified). The lady chef quickly said oh so sorry and left immediately. I asked the waiter if he could ask the chefs to remake the pancake for me or do something about this. He said okay sure but returned within seconds to tell me that the chefs cannot make the pancake without shrimp. So the waiter didn’t know how the pancake was made and the chefs didn’t communicate to waiter albeit his notes. The waiter said that he refunded my pancake which was nice of him but hey I didn’t finish my pancake and the piece that I ate was contaminated. So what did he refund me for? Anyway, that refunded money was used for a box Benadryl, an anti itch cream, and a bottle of water. Thanks Sesame for a “nice” evening. 😒
Edit: Service is a hit or miss depending on the wait staff. Natalies poor service made me change by rating from 5 to 4 stars.This is one of the best Korean restaurants I’ve been to, and I’ve been to many. The kimchi is mixed with some sweet and spicy paste. The Galbitang was delicious and made with an extremely tender and fatty galbi.
The real deal. Healthy and tasty. We shall return.
Sorry to say this but i Had better instant noodles before at cheaper price. Jjampong was served with 1 piece of clam and mussels for the price, i expected more especially if its just instant noodles.
Visited yesterday with my sons. Had the Korean Ramen. Also tried kimchee for first time ever. We ALL loved the food. It was AMAZING! I will eat here every time I visit my oldest son. Atmosphere was relaxed. Service was awesome!
Gabijjim was pretty good with generous portion. Spicy squid was a little too sweet for our taste. Kimchi was tasty and spicy as it should be. Overall a pretty good experience. The waiter (Korean) was really attentive and quick to serve our needs.
We came all the way from San Francisco to have dinner at Sesame Korean Grill in Santa Cruz. And we were not disappointed!The owner use to have a restaurant in Burlingame, where the food and the service were wonderful. So when we heard that he had relocated to Santa Cruz, we just knew that we would have to check out his new location.The new restaurant is in a really nice space and the food is just as terrific as we remembered.I wish them much success in their new location!
Quality plummeted with new ownership. We wont go again. Kim Chee pancake (paejean on former menu) used to be one of the best dishes, crispy and rich with flavor, now its tasteless and soggy to the point of being uncooked in middle. Quality of the meat and veggies in other dishes was terrible compared to original restaurant. Far from fresh. Skip it.
The food was amazing! My friends and I went after our 2nd first day of college and coming here was what made our day. It was our first time. The wait time was short, the food was delicious and the service was awesome. I don’t know if the man was the owner but he was telling us about the history of ramyeon and was super nice. 11/10 I’m going more often

Probably the best Korean food in town. Definitely a good break from the typical all-you-can-eat style K-BBQ around the area. Go for the house specialty fried chicken wings for appetizers and the beef bulgolgi for the main dish. You wont regret it!
I have eaten here a few times. The service is great. Today however it lagged a little and my food got misplaced but they comped me for the dish. Now thats accountability! Plus the food is always good!
The food is just okay. The pre-dish servings are neither good nor authentic. The broth of the tofu soup is thin (not rich at all). There are very limited entree options. The service was super slow. Also, I think it’s overpriced.

I love coming here.. the staff are very nice and friendly, the food is good and satisfy my stomach for sure . I normally order the jap chae and Kalbi ribs. I like the side dishes as well specially the fish cakes :) the noise level is average. Available pay by space parking spot across the street.
The food is misrepresented. The soy bulgabi was very sweet not salty like soy is. The expensive taxi was presented as being like Sake not flavored vodka. Food is ok but not truthful.

Lovely local adapted Korean food. Not challenging, one-page food menu, but savory. Good selection of Jinro soju. My favorite is classic but they have the fruit flavors like grapefruit which is lovely and tangy. Very friendly staff, accomodating, dont be afraid to ask! They have a visual menu on request. Servings are generous; small plates have more than enough toshare! Seats are comfy. Boothes by the window.

Im so glad I happened to notice they were open, and on opening night! Ive been waiting excitedly for this since I saw the application for liquor license go up. This was worth the wait!I ordered the daejja bulgogi, which was perfect, and had the corn tea. This of course came with plenty of banchan. Susana (who I think is the owner?) kept stopping by to check on me and apologizing for the spotty, opening night craziness. Everything was actually perfect. I had a book, so I didnt even notice if it was slow. I was very excited to see that they had seaweed salad and mook, which I have been unable to find anywhere. Prices were also a good deal - the banchan kept coming, the tea kept flowing, and it was only $17 for meat, rice, banchan, and tea. Ill definitely order the mandu and ssam next time, too.Dont let the outside fool you - inside is very well done up. It is a bit small though (20 or 30 tables?), and I anticipate them becoming very popular, so plan ahead.Im excited to keep going back!

One star because they cooked the instant noodles perfectly. No joking, the korean ramen is actually instant noodles, Ive eaten enough of them to know that. Now, if you want some good food go out their other exit and take a left, then at the end of the block cross the street and go right. Next, go straight until you reach a place called shogun, they have good food.

Love going here with my friends, and recently brought my husband. Service is friendly and fast, I usually get one thing, but delicious and authentic.
(Warning: young adults from Central Florida in for vacation). The items tasted here were ALL PRETTY GOOD, but definitely not in my made-up list of top Korean restaurants Ive had. After sitting in a large clay bowl, our BIBIMBAP WAS NICELY CRISPY at the bottom providing a great contrast in texture. Both the appetizers of the Kalbi and the Wings were nicely seasoned and no extra sauce was needed. THE INCLUDED BANCHAN featured broccoli (interesting choice), some pickled purple cabbage, sesami bean sprouts (the best of the bunch)... no kimchi? THE STAFF WAS A NICE MIX OF ALL AGES AND NATIONALITIES- very welcoming and nice.
Still Mays Sushi Bar + Grill! Always go back for the Popcorn Lobster Roll, Crazy Boy and Crazy Girl Rolls, and of course the Classics are great too, dragon roll, Alaskan roll.

The food is really not good. Not recommendable!Not only is the food not seasoned but it is also drowned in oil. The fried rice was fresh sushi rice drowned in oil and left in the pan until it burned off. Canned mixed vegetables made from peas, carrots and beans were then poured on top. And charging $12 for something like that is audacious.The service has been really nice so far and tried to check on you regularly without being intrusive.This is food that really made me sad.

2023-05-10 03:15:26Stopped by for dinner on a trip to Santa Cruz. The food was really good and Imthe staff was very friendly and quick. They also asked us several times if we needed anything else so excellent service!We got the rice cakes (tteokbokki), kimchi fried rice and the Korean special chicken spicy. We also got some soju and beer. Everything was great except I have had different tteokbokki with a thicker sauce that I liked better so I would rate this dish a little lower.

2022-03-31 03:21:31Short ribs are really good. Traditional bibimbap is not too bad, but actually vegetables are cold and meats are warm. Maybe It’s better to choose hot stone one. My friends said spicy pork and squid are good here. I will come back and try next time probably.

Udon noodle is just soaked in kikomen soy sauce and served. Grilled chicken and scallops/sea food pan cake are fully soaked in oil. Food came within 2 minutes after ordering. Food has no taste.Parking is very limited.

2021-12-28 02:31:19Actually meant to go to Mays Japanese Bar & Grill. It turns out that the restaurant is combined with Sesame Korean Grill. Went for a bowl of Udon and ended up having a very nice kKorean soup. Friendly family run diner.
