Located in the Convoy Village Shopping Center. Theres plenty of parking but it can be difficult finding a spot when visiting during busy dinner hours due to other neighboring restaurants.We were in the area looking for an appetizing dinner on Friday night and their window menu caught our attention.We tried their Beef Magic Fried Rice, Fired Noodles, BBQ Chicken Wing Skewers accompanied with Hot Tea. Everything tasted fresh with really good flavor (those Chicken Wing Skewers were so tasty though).Prices are competitive and portions are generous. Service is amazing, very welcoming and friendly. However, tables could be cleaner (our table was sticky with a messy chili jar).We had a good dinner experience here.

A friend recommended this place for authentic Chinese food & especially the beef stew which I had. We also had the General Tso chicken & a delicious Cucumber salad. I recommend you use their QR code to see some nice pictures of the food before you order.

Lots of positive reviews on this place and yes we tried the Biang Biang noodles just like everyone else. Everything is tasty, but a bit heavy on the sauce for my taste. The veggies were really tasty as well, but again with quite a bit of sugar. I understand the situation of being short staffed and I don’t mind using the app with a QR code where I can order my own food. But the expected tips boxes go from 18% - 25%? Something I keep pondering 🤔

Update review: They just launched their late night menu! I ordered from Hungry Panda App and went to pick the food up at their restaurant, the pickup time starts from 8:15pm. It’s perfect time for late night dinner~ All the late night dishes are so delicious and so authentic! You feel you are dining at a real Chinese restaurant back in China!! I recommend the Lamb collar hotpot, the spicy dry hotpot, and fried veggies & meats. It’s hard to describe what they are! You should just go to try! Their price is very affordable and their portion is big.Previous review: One of the most authentic Chinese foods in San Diego! If you want to try the real Chinese flavor, please come to check it out. First, this restaurant is specializing in Shan Xi food which represents one of the most popular western part of Chinese cuisine. Myself love Shan Xi food a lot, they use a lot of beef & lamb, it’s a little bit like mid-eastern foods. This time, the dishes I tried and loved a lot are Di San Xian, Stir Fry Lotus Root, and hand pulled Biang Biang noodles. The pork burger is sad. Looks nothing like the menu picture. Server was very rude. Sauce containers on the table is very dirty. The hot sauce looks like it been there 100 years lol. The spicy lamb is very chewy, meat taste old. Price is over priced for what u get.

Beef brisket hand pulled noodles worth the price of entry. Great Szechuan peppercorn spice flavor. The lamb skewers though tasted almost of rotten lamb. Ordering is pretty convenient using a table specific QR code though it would have been easier if we could also pay through the website.

Great food, high prices, okay service. Fine overall experience, just make sure you get what you order. Not all pics on the menu resemble the plate they serve you.As of Summer 2022, they have a new system for ordering using your mobile device. It helps avoid miscommunication and food is delivered to you promptly after submitting your order. This has very much improved the dining experience, so I updated accordingly.It is very pricey, but pretty damn good food. I would rate the place 4.5/5 if flavor was the only thing that mattered. Seeing prices increase on an already pricey restaurant leaves me expecting more in service and quality and they just dont hit the highest mark yet.Figure out your priorities while dining out and plan accordingly.

This food is killer. Everything we got was just amazing. Biang-Biang noodles with cumin lamb was spicy and delicious. The friend rice was a bit different than the typical fried rice...in the best way. Definitely exceeded expectations for my lady who is a fried rice addict, and we couldnt stop eating the shrimp pork and leak dumplings in the spicy vinegar broth. Staff is very friendly and extremely helpful finding you a dish you will like, especially if you are trying to branch out to try something new. This place is truly magic!

I am always on a quest for hand pulled noodles and I finally found some! The thick, chewy biang biang noodles here are the stuff of my dreams. The dumplings were also hand made and so bouncy and unctuous. Im so glad I found this place. Its definitely authentic and if you like thick noodles, you gotta try this place! So delicious!

Came here after a recommendation with my brother and cousin for lunch. No long wait. Ordered the hand-pulled noodles with cumin beef, beef brisket hand-ripped noodles, and a veggie dish. A lot of spices in all three plates—much stronger than I’m used to—but the flavor was special. This type of cuisine is more reminiscent of Northern style Chinese food; it’s an acquired taste. Couldn’t finish everything in-house so was able to pack the leftovers to-go. Would recommend for groups.

This place has great, authentic food. We got the eggplant with garlic (amazing!!!!!) Biang biang noodles (amazing!!!) Lliang p w sesame (better than I expected, delish) and Cumin beef with hand pulled noodle (too high price point IMO, but noodles were great). Overall, a little pricey but worth it. We got 4 dishes for 3 people and we were stuffed. Very introvert friendly don’t come here for people to talk to you, come for the amazing food and quick service. Thank you so much! We will be back!

I came here for the first time recently I got three different dishes and they were all horrible. The sliced beef with scallions had so much oil that it felt like I was eating a grease bath.The only thing that’s edible at this place is orange chicken, which feels like I could’ve made it at home with frozen meatNow, don’t let me get you started on the service…… Horrible. First time having Shan Xi food. Have been always wanting to try shan Xi food after watching on YouTube, but there is no restaurant in Sacramento. The noodles are hand made, the sauces was delicious. We ordered 6 dishes for 3 people, and we ate left over next day and still yummy. Will definitely come back and try more dishes.

Shan Xi Magic Kitchen was listed as top restaurant for Chinese food on one of online apps and oh boy how wrong are they! The only magic thing about them is how they are still in business with the service they offer!!! It is absolutely outrageous, I don’t think we ever been treated so poorly at any restaurant/diner.The staff member who met us at the door pointed at the table, which was all the way at the end of the restaurant and said “back table” and walked away! The place was pretty busy (it was late Wednesday evening); the same person came to our table 15min later with water and menus. Did not introduce himself or explained how things work there. We waited for another 20min for the same person to return to take our order. Food arrived in another good 15min.The place felt awkward, no music in the background, 2 staff members, felt very unwelcome. The water jug was all dirty, food was served in small paper plates. Portions were good size though. We ordered Shrimp magic fried rice which was just ok, nothing special, didn’t have much flavors; Tso’s chicken was dry and tased ok, beef skewers full of curry souse, tasted odd and we also ordered Pork and Chinese cabbage dumplings which tasted absolutely amazing (here is second star just for dumplings).Overall not what expected for somehow highly rated place. Other reviews which we should have read first probably, pointed out the same extremely poor customer service. They’re right next to Korean BBQ place which we go to very often and they have outstanding service.Also charged us $0.50 for a box to take the rest of the food home. And no, the box was not somehow special, eco-friendly or other that would explain this ridiculous charge-exactly the same boxes are usually used for standard food deliveries.Would probably not return, not unless will see people reviews that service have improved.

Our first time to this restaurant and it was overall a good restaurant. Minus one star because there was a fly that bugged me during the entire diner. We ordered the burgers, liang pi, lamb skewers, mount qi noodles which were all pretty good. I like their burgers which are quite authentic. The liang pi is also tasty. The staffs are ok and the service is quite fast which is a big plus.

I went here with friends from out of town. We had green beans, tofu, crispy chicken, biang biang noodles, and some dumplings. Every single bite was delicious and we were incredibly satisfied with the meal. It had a nice spicy heat that didnt go crazy even as we ate more. Went by myself for lunch. Ordered the BBQ lamb skewers and the cumin beef noodle bowl. Very tasty! The cumin beef had almost a whole onion in there, a bit much for me. But even the not spicy meals are almost at the heat limit for this gringo. The skewer was cooked on steel, so be careful, its HOT! The place is amazingly clean. Whenever someone leaves a table, four employees clean up immediately, followed by one who sweeps under the table every time. This place is definitely worth a visit

One of the only places to get biang biang noodles in San Diego! We’ve also never had a bad dish from here. The vegetable dishes, especially with green beans and eggplant, are always perfect. The sweet and sour dumplings with leek taste like spring.The only negative reviews seem to be regarding the service. It’s true the staff won’t hover, smile, or make small talk. They’ll probably be on their phone unless you need something. But they aren’t rude, don’t make you wait for a check, and we aren’t going there to socialize - so it’s really fine.

The handmade and hand cut noodles were the star of the show. Placed next to anything on the menu the doughey carbs soaked up the neighboring flavors into a beautiful amalgamation.The dumplings were also very good but definitely order spicy soup with it for authenticity.The skewers were below average in my opinion. Cucumber salad( 拍黄瓜) is a bit sweet, I personally like it sour. Dryfried cauliflower(干锅有机菜花） is not too spicy, theres pork in there too. Each piece of noodle of Biangbiang noodles（招牌遢遢面) is very big, if youre not good with chopsticks, it can be messy while you eat it. My husband called it flat piece of dough, calling it noodle are stretching it. Overall, food taste really good. I would come back again and try something else. Oh, dumplings are good too!!!

This place is closed 3-5pm everyday. The stir fried LiangPi was rather average, everything else was good. The cumin lamb burger was spicy. Dont believe it when they say its not spicy. :) if you really cant eat any spicy food, you need to make it clear.

Absolutely delicious. I had the #18 spicy hot oil seared stewed pork hand-made noodles. I added extra garlic which made the dish even more delicious. Not too salty or oily either. Spice level wasn’t to my liking but that didn’t stop me from enjoying the dish. 11/10 will try again, next time with more heat and garlic!

6 out of 5 stars!!! Fantastic food - even better than some restaurants in China. Hometown flavor made me feel so satisfied! Lamb on skew and cow stomach reminded me of wonderful childhood time. Saozi noodles were a little thin but the flavor was just right. The big bowl fish was gigantic and the ingredients were authentic and high quality. Also, incredibly great value for the food you get. Nice and helpful staff who were calm and friendly when the large crowd/queue were impatient; when you are inside, they don’t force you to share table or rush you to finish. Waited for 50 min - all worth it! Wish they come to the east coast!

If you love spicy/sichuan cuisine, you’re going to like this place!! The hand pulled noodles have such a wonderful texture. Wish a very few select items were more reasonably priced (cucumber salad ~$10, albeit portion is large) but overall good value for price for majority of menu items. Takeout just as good as eating in. The most amazing Chinese food I’ve ever tried. Every noodle dish, vegetable, and dumpling was full of flavor and exceeded every expectation I had. I saw someone say the prices were high, and the only reason I can imagine they’d say that is because the meal is meant to be eaten family style, in which case the prices were very reasonable. This is my new favorite restaurant in San Diego.

I came here looking for a carb load (sans marathon, just to feed my addiction), and boy did I get it. Their handmade noodles were delicious and chewy (we ordered the biang biang noodles, basically the widest noodles you can get on this earth, sort of like eating lasagna in non-lasagna form). The only thing that was disappointing was that it was not spicy for me, even though it looked spicy (noodle catfish?) We also ordered liang pi (cold noodle dish) which also had good texture but for me not as flavorful as other restaurants carrying this dish.We tried to balance out the carb load with some sautéed veggies, which were really garlicky and flavorful and recommended to make your mama proud. I would love to try the sautéed cabbage next!

I have mixed feelings about this place. I really like their food. Its the closest thing to xians in new york. The noodle soup is my favorite dish here and the dry noodles are also good.However, I really didnt like the way they treated the guests I brought to the restaurant. They were very rude and while the food is good, my guests were not happy with their meal. They came from out of town to visit so I regretted bringing them.

I was so happy they helped us order since my iPhone was having issues with contactless ordering. Food was great. I thought the prices were fair for the quality and amount of food you get. To go boxes are readily available for leftovers They do not provide a menu when you are seated. You are directed to scan a code and use your phone to view the menu & place your own order.Even though the wait staff has little to do, service is poor. They mostly stand by the kitchen chatting with their faces focused on their cell phone screens. My guest who had been to the restaurant several times said dealing with the wait staff is always an issue.Ill probably just return for takeout.

When I walk into the store, I didnt receive any greeting, and the server left my family hanging there for more than 5 minute. Then when we talk to the server and ask for a table for 13 people, the server seems very impatient and like they dont want to serve us. For example, they left us hanging in a table with 3 less chairs until we ask. After we order the food, the server tries to avoid any service for us, they would just drop their food at anywhere on the table while giving us a really bad attitude. WE SERVICED OURSELF!!! We poured our own water, personally place the plate at the correct place after the server just drop it off at a place for their efficiency, and ask for simple things like can we get more chairs for a table that has only 10 seat for 13 people. The only good service was when the male sever helped us move the table and suggest a solution for our big group in the big table. We appreciate that part of the service, so would at least give 3 star. But everything else, the server acted like they want us to just eat and leave. But then they force us to pay 25% for a bad service experience like this and for a food like taste less than normal.This place is horrible. If I can give zero star, I would do so. Dont come here!!!

This used to be our favorite Chinese food in town and we used to take all our family and friends here. We have ordered takeout many many times from them during the pandemic but it was never good, we thought it was just because those dishes you gotta eat fresh when they come out from the kitchen. We havent been dining in, but we finally came back, we realized everything has changed. All the dishes we ordered were our favorite dishes from here, nothing new but they all tasted different in a bad way. The Liang pi sauce was so watery and tasteless. The beef skewers are tough. The cumin beef noodle was a lot less than before. What happened to their plates? They changed their beautiful Chinese porcelain plate to smaller size cheap plastic plates. They give customers who dine in paper bowls and disposable chopsticks. Not to mention all the price went up which I understand, but shrink the size of the plate at the same time? After all, the food was the main reason that disappointed us, we probably wont want to come back again.

What I had hoped would have been an awesome and delectable authentic Chinese food experience with my family quickly turned into a 1-minute visit. I’m only reviewing the brief “service” we received as we didn’t even order food. When my family arrived, we were rudely received by a staff member and asked if we had reservations. We didn’t and, despite the place only having one party at a single table, we were given, with disdain and disgust, the corner “table” located by the door (which was perfunctorily serving as a table). The staff member’s demeanor felt as if it was a burden to serve us and, when bringing out the cutlery to set up the table, threw it on the table: he seemed very bothered to have to serve us. I’ve never pulled the race card (let alone publicly), but I definitely felt undertones of discrimination from this one staff member that we interacted with. Maybe he was having a bad day, but my family (nor anybody else’s) should have to pay for his bad day by being treated with contempt. Maybe I was naive in leaving a $20 tip for 2 pitchers of water and glasses that were brought out (also in a rude manner), but at least I have my conscious clean so that we wouldn’t be accused of free-loading the table that was begrudgingly set up for us. Shame on you, manager, for permitting this from your staff!!!

I only used to go to this restaurant for the Liang pi noodles. I tolerated the bad service just cause the noodles are so hard to find. I discovered Shan Xi Magic Kitchen through this months issue of San Diego magazine because the biang biang noodles were featured on the cover and it looked so good. Luckily, the noodles were indeed delicious and met my expectations! It comes with lots of bean sprouts and bok choy. My spice tolerance is average (can do a medium at most or around a 4-5 on a 10 spice scale) and I did not find the biang biang noodles spicy. My friend ordered the spicy hot oil seared pork handmade noodles- the meat was so tender and the noodles were so thick (almost like lasagna and even thicker than the biang biang noodles) but it was also very tasty. We would definitely dine here again but since the dishes are quite rich, probably just once/twice a month or for special occasions. I would like to try the dumplings and beef noodle soup next time.

I am a big fan of Xi’an food. My wife and I never missed any Xi’an food in China and the US. Magic Kitchen was really amazing when we stopped here two years ago. But everything has changed now. The Bangbiang noddle is far from authentic. Noodle is too thick, too wide and not stretchy. Is it really hand-made noodle? I can even taste the soy sauce for seafood which shouldn’t be there in BiangBiang noodle. The lamb soup with paomo is salty and full of flavor of white pepper. The service was also lower than expectation. Three stars are left for the lamb skewers. I would say Xi’an famous food in NYC is even much better. Please please stick to the authentic as before.

Fresh in house noodles are delicious. So far I oreder a handful of things & it was good except beef noodle soup.It was so spicy I couldnt taste the dish & they didnt give u much beef on the noodle soup either.

Very good eats - noodles shine at this ubiquitous mall location in Convoy. Biang biang noodles are fresh and that perfect balance of gummy and firm that only fresh noodles have. Add some cucumbers and its a meal!! Sweet and sour fish was good but wish they could have used cod or petrale sole. EZ parking on Saturday afternoon but is challenging after dark. Very helpful staff that accommodated my moms Buddhist vegetarian diet.

Food is decent but service is quite not good. Oddly they dont have any rice in their restaurant according to our server. I think thats like the main staple in Asia, maybe the world. Heck you can get rice and beans at McDonalds and Burger King in Costa Rica, but I digress. Service is slow and unfriendly. Also not a good place to go for lunch with your buddy like I did as they dont allow for split checks under $40.00. They wont have to worry about that next time as there wont be a next time.

I tried a couple different dishes because I was literally craving everythingBBQ Shrimp Skewers#6 - Hand-Pulled Noodles With Spicy Cumin Beef#65 - Hot & Sour Soup Dumplings (Pork & Leek)The noodles with cumin beef was actually recommended to me by my server - who was also very attentive - and it did not disappoint. There was something very unique and delicious about this dish - I suppose Im just used to cumin being in Hispanic dishes, but it was very good! The beef was in veerrrrry thin strips - about the size of the noodles, and it might have been better if there was more of it to go around, but Im not really complaining.BBQ Shrimp Skewers - I dont know what I expected when I ordered this, but boy was I nervous when I saw those whole shrimps - shell, tail, head and everything! - show up on those skewers. I was legit nervous, because I didnt want to look like an idiot peeling the shrimp so I quickly texted a friend who said - JUST EAT IT. I took the plunge but could not fathom the thought of eating the head. Everything I had heard was spot on - the shell was very crispy and really complimented the shrimps... I also picked off the feet because I just could not.Hot & Sour Soup with Dumplings. The soup was very thick and was pleasantly strong tasting. I liked it. the dumplings were also good. I dont eat hot & sour soup with dumplings too often, so I could not speak to if it was above average or not, but I think I will order it again.Of the three - I would definitely order the Cumin Beef Noodles again...Overall - I was very pleased! ... the servers were very nice, and very attentive. It was so nice to be able to simply glance up and instantly have someone head over to me... And to think - I was just doing to get a boba and buffalo fries from the corner shop! ha!Im glad I tried something new!

Favorites...cucumber salad, cauliflower with pork belly, green beans (so garlicky!), biang biang noodles (they bring good luck), pork with handmade noodles, cumin beef or lamb with noodles, and the streamed fish...DELICIOUS. Not a fancy place but so good. Also, dont freak out if your tongue gets a little numbed from some of these dishes. They use REAL szechuan peppercorns and while theyre not especially hot, they have that mild effect. Its pretty cool actually. Highly recommend.

This place is so good! I like the fat hand torn noodles, the eggplant garlic plate, and the fresh greens (I think it was called luctuca sativa). Every time. It took a second to get used to the level of oil present but so yummy!

Food is great and cheap.Minus one star because the quality of the service is awful. Most of the waiters were lined up in the corner of the restaurant talking to one another and forgetting about the clients. They do not even ask if you want water and make it quite painful to get their attention. Plus, they dont even try to speak english if you got a chinese speaking girlfriend with you.

Authentic Chinese food cooked by Chinese people. They have a glass window which shows the kitchen and who was in it. I was quite surprised to find only Chinese people worked back there.Given all of that, they do not speak English very well. Taking your orders is fine, but other than that, other requests you may have might not be understood...But hey, the food is great!And no, not all Chinese cuisine are the same. No rice 🍚 here. Dont be surprised!

They don’t serve rice at all, wich was unexpected. Cooking is not bad but not great. Too much cumin in lamb. Pork from the menu appeared to be beacon in the dish. There was very little meat in our portions also. Mostly vegetables and onion. Wouldn‘t recommend it.

The noodles here, hand ripped and thinner noodles, are a little too chewy and doughy. The sauces are okay, but nothing spectacular. The pork bun was also okay, with the pork nearing dry and overcooked.It took a couple of requests to get a refill of water, even though there were times the staff was just standing around.Overall, the experience was underwhelming and not worth a long wait in line.

Went in here after reading all the good reviews and wanting to try some authentic Chinese food. Ordered some lamb cumin. I dont think it was lamb, maybe it was pork. I wouldnt go here again. The lamb skewers were tiny and dry. Nothing authentic Chinese about this place.

Love the food here. I am a strict vegetarian and I am very wary of Asian food as they tend to use seafood based sauces. But Shan Xi doesnt use any of that and there are several veg friendly options. The biang biang noodles and leek and bean curd are must haves. Not to mention the cucumber salad.

I would avoid this place due to the very rude and confrontational management staff. If you want to save yourself the hassle, check out Tasty Noodle House, Noodle Hut, or Green China Grill up the street.We ordered 3 simple items for lunch, 2 came out and we started eating. ~20 minutes go by and still no 3rd item, we figured wed check on the order to make sure it wasnt forgotten. We try to get the service staffs attention. They ask us to wait, no problem, we wait. We then see this guy finish his tasks on hand, and start wiping down the counters and walls. We try to get their attention again. When they come by, we ask if they could check on our food. The guy right away, in a short tone, tells my wife that orders take a while, but hed be happy to cancel it for us if we want. And gave her a glare while raising his eyebrows. We said no, that would not be necessary, we would just like to wait for our lunch.What happens next was just completely unprofessional. The waiter starts audibly complaining to the other staff about us, in front of us, clearly taking out some kind of pent up frustration on us. We asked him to stop being so rude, and he just started to go off on my wife, a very small woman. At this point I have to stand up and tell him what he was doing was wrong and he was being an ass. He gets in my face, starts calling me names, and threatens to fight me. With my wife and 3 year old child there, at their restaurant. As we were leaving, I asked the hostess if there was a manager on duty. She told us that the man yelling and threatening to fight with us, was the manager.Convoy is has many choices, no need to get harassed and risk getting assaulted for a bowl of noodles.

I really wish I had taken pictures of the food. This place serves authentic Chinese food,no fried rice or orange chicken, but lots of hand ripped noodles, soups and vegetables. We had the Biang-Biang noodles, lactuca sativa and a leek and bean curd dish. All of these vegeterian as far as I could tell. The noodles were my favorite, as theyre different from any other noodle dish Ive had: thick, hand ripped noodles (lasagna pasta size noodle) simply but deliciously cooked with ginger, scallions, chili oil and soy sauce. Outstanding! Also,very inexpensive. Cant wait to go back and try something new. Beware that they dont split checks and they dont have lime or lemon, in case thats important to you.

We wanted rice with the meal they dont have rice is what they said and then they all sat down with rice and ate family meal. The fish tasted like they soak it in water and ready it when customers order it. Im a little reluctant to give them five stars, because then more people will go and ill have to wait longer when I eat there!Honestly the best chinese food youll find in San Diego. Very authentic xian style cooking. Weve tried quite a few but here are our favorites:Cucumber salad - such a refreshing dish. Perfect blend of crunch of the cucumbers, the aroma of sesame oil, a bit of garlic and a touch of red pepper. So good.Lamb burger - melt in your mouth lamb with a heavy dose of cumin in freshly baked flatbread. We always end up ordering a second one.Lamb Pao Mo soup - a soup that is perfect for a cold day. Super hearty broth with chunks of lamb, cilantro and chopped up unleavened bread. Although very good, this one would be better with more pickled ginger to cut the richness of the lamb.Spicy cumin beef with noodles- I love hand made noodles, the different thicknesses lend to different textures and chewiness that to me are just awesome. This one I manage to order every time despite trying to vary what we order.Spicy beef noodle soup - this is the wifes favorite. These noodles are flatter and wider and also amazing. And the beef is always so well done, pulls apart with ease.
