Good food, but dont expect good service. The wait staff is pushy and borderline rude. But if you go in with that expectation, then youll enjoy your dining experience.
Food is good. Authentic Shanghai food. Love the crab rice cake so much. The service is disappointing. The waitress there is strangely rude. All stars goes to food and no star for the restaurant.
Good dishes, terrible service
Theyve got some okay buns, but some of their dishes are too salty or underseasoned. Wonton soup was a huge disappointment.

Poor service, very typical Mainland Chinese style service. The lady behind counter claimed to be snowed under when there were only 2 tables of patrons. They wont provide receipt and only give you a sloppy handwriting piece of paper to take picture of. the restaurant trying to evade tax?Criticized service, very standard Chinese service. The staff who ordered at the counter complained that they were too busy, but in fact there were only two tables occupied. No receipt is provided, only a scribbled order menu and fee are given for you to take pictures with your mobile phone. Is this a way to evade taxes?
I came here twice and ordered hot and sour soup twice. It was really delicious. I also ordered several kinds of vegetables: mapo tofu, fish fillets in vinegar, and shredded pork with celery and dried beans. They were all delicious. The dishes were all freshly prepared. Order freshly fried, recommended. . . .
Extremely bad waiter, a mean and ugly old lady waiter. The food she handed out became unpalatable. If she didn’t tip her for the first time, she would never come back. If I were the boss, I would have fired this waiter several times. times

2023-11-21 05:05:44My family and I have been coming here for years and their Shanghainese food is consistently amazing. Incredibly authentic, food comes out crazy fast, and I personally find the owner lady super chill and friendly (we speak shanghainese so I’m sure that helps haha). For those who are rating this place low stars due to terrible service, c’mon, this is a mom and pop shop with a sweet owner who doesn’t speak much English. What do y’all expect!!!??? 🤣

2020-01-05 15:54:50I went there twice, then decide not to go there again. Bad service and I was force to charge tips for the aloof attitude. No smile, no greeting, just money. They gave their service depending on the different people and your ordering, if u spend much money, maybe they would smile to u. Good luck. The experience in this restaurant is so so so disgusting

2017-08-09 05:27:33I went there based on the high (4 out of 5) from its rating on google. But the experience was sadly disappointing. We ordered three dishes. The first one was Dong-po Pork in Soy sauce（酱汁东坡肉）, the taste was ok, but it was over cooked. The next was loofah with gluten （丝瓜面筋）. To be fair, the waitress warned us that the loofah might be a little bitter, but it turned out it was very bitter. On top of that, the gluten tasted a bit spoiled. Very disappointing. By the way, this restaurant is named as Shanghai Gourmet on Yelp.
