The orange chicken was white meat, which is honestly very rare these days. Very tasty Chinese food! I enjoyed it.By the way, they dont have Sriracha, which got me a little disappointed. So next time Ill bring my bucket of Sriracha.

Nice corner spot with big bay windows to people watch while sitting comfortably inside.Food came fast. I was in and out in 20 minutes, tops. But I couldve stayed. It wasnt terribly busy while I was there, maybe 5 tables, I just had somewhere else I had to be.Portion size is average. The item that stood out to me was the hot n sour soup. It really had a nice smokey savory flavor and the little scallion garnish on top was a great burst of flavor that complimented the base of the soup perfectly. Was really impressed with the soup. I ordered fried rice with my kung pao chicken. Fried rice was a little dry but not bad. The main entree was just average to me. Ive had better but Ive also had worse.Overall was not bad. Price was reasonable for that area and place was clean and service was friendly. (Noted : my criticism for these types of Chinese restaurants is high since I make a point to try them whenever and wherever I see one. Ive been to over 40 in Southern California. )

My wife and I enjoyed lunch yesterday at Shanghai Pine Garden and the food was great. We had pot stickers as our appetizer and followed with Mushu Pork and Orange Chicken and white rice. The food was wonderful and the service was excellent. We will be back to try some of their many other dishes.

Great service and super clean. Fast and delicious. One of the the best Asian food places we’ve been to. Highly recommend it if you’re visiting Balboa Island and feel like eating a hefty portion of good comfort food.

The food here is excellent, very fresh and tasty. The service is good. The waitresses are very nice and speedy brain your food out. The atmosphere is so so. But because its on Bella Island its a nice location.

Visited here after reading the reviews and craving good Chinese food. The service was pleasant and atmosphere ok. I noticed I did not smell food cooking, nor did I hear any sounds indicative of cooking, so that leads one to believe there may be Microwaved food being served. I get my wonton soup, and took a few sips of broth and ate some chicken from the soup!!! I moved my veggies in the bowl, and there it was, A WORM RESTING in a room temperature hot tub, that was served to me! I alerted the waitress QUITLY, and she responded with “ Oh! It must be from the fresh vegetables. Ill get you another one.” I asked her to please cancel my orders as I had no appetite for any food at the moment! This experience ruined my day!

We have been in this restaurant before. Only ever for dining in.Simple menu with great choices.We did go two nights in a row.The first night we had a nice table at the window. And our meal was served very fast. And delicious....But that evening it seemed that everything to do with take out orders we a big shamble. Lots of unhappy customers and extremely long delays.The second night we had made a reservation. And again our food was served promptly. And another delight.Whenever back on Balboa Island we will have another meal (or two) here...

Average Chinese food. Fried rice is basically steamed rice with some diced veg thrown in. Sweet and Sour Pork is good, but nothing special. Nothing was bad, its just that nothing wowed me. Lunch specials go until 5pm which is nice.

Bland food, the lemon chicken was perfectly crunchy but dry, the lemon sauce was bland and needed more lemon flavor, my fried rice had a burnt taste and flakes of burnt black throughout, the flies in here would not leave me alone. I ordered the cream cheese appetizer, the outside wrapping was too thick and had a bad aftertaste, this place use to be superb but is no longer anything but barely average in taste. Very disappointing.

Excellent sit-down Chinese cuisine right on Marine Ave in Balboa. Ive been going here for years and its always delicious, top quality Chinese. Perfect for a couple or a whole family to share dishes. Staff is very friendly, Ive always had a great experience here. And very reasonable prices, considering the quality and location.

Almost Manderin flavor. Customer service could be friendlier. They can do better especially because their Wok fries rice with excellent heat. They were extremely frugal with ingredients and seasoning. Customer service needs a makeover. Something in the food left me with a bad case of coughing I had to make a trip to the Rite Aid for immune cleansing support. I was not pleased about that.

You can tell the meat and vegetables are so fresh and high quality. It is pricey but is worth it for the quality. I ordered 3 meat dishes for take out and they were all delicious and my only complaint is the soy sauce packets that came with it we’re poor quality. I had my own soy sauce so no matter. I would recommend it

Went for the first time over the weekend. I wasnt expecting much because it was small. But oh my good god do they have amazing food!!! I had the honey walnut shrimp because its my favorite thing to order at any chinese place. This was HANDS DOWN THE BEST I HAVE EVER HAD! Must try if youre in the area.

I waited for an hour for my food. Lady Chase me out of the restaurant. All but because I asked how long my food was going to be. Not ever coming back here!!

Really good walnut chicken and chicken lo mein. Large portions. A little pricier than many Chinese restaurants. But, it is on Balboa Island, right on the main drag. Also, good for people watching if you get a booth on the window. Will definitely go again.

We road out on bicycles and were looking for a place to get sandwiches or something quick. We knew that we would have to spend $12.00 - $16.00 a piece, for whatever we got. We happened to see this restaurant and just went in and took a chance on it. The four of us were pleasantly surprised at the variety of food, the great service and the price. It cost us about $8.50/each. I would definitely frequent this establishment again and recommend it to others.

We ate here on a whim as we passed by it after walking around. We were less than enthused. All of our food was pretty flavorless and the middle of some of my broccoli florets were cold. We each got 1 fork to eat with. Some of the broccoli was not bite sized and quite difficult to cut with a fork without sending food flying. One person got a vegetable plate and a lot of the veggies were limp and doused so heavily with sauce. We found it odd that there was 80s classics playing (not bad necessarily, but a first for me in a Chinese restaurant). We all would not recommend this place to a friend, and were genuinely shocked to see that it had a 4.5 rating.

We love this place we drive all the way from San Bernardino just to have Chinese food here usually the service was pretty good the lady was really rude but you cant blame her with so many entitled rich Karens going in there demanding their food even walking back to the kitchen five minutes after they order their food asking wheres my order so I can understand why the workers are so unfriendly besides that the food is awesome we will always keep going back

My wife and I are not from the area so we were not sure where to go for dinner. We decided to give this place a try and we are so glad we did! We had the orange chicken and their combination lo mein. The food was authentic and flavorful. The customer service was friendly and courteous. We hope we can be in the area again soon so we can come back here.

The restaurant gave off an authentic vibe, but immediately upon receiving my food I realized I made a horrible mistake! None of this was authentic. My wife who is from Sichuan china, ordered the chicken and friedrice was very disappointed. I came for good Chinese food and received Panda Express quality of food. How every the staff are very friendly. I taste no passion in the cooking. Ive been coming to the island for 17 years and am a Newport local I highly suggest something else.

Yum! Husband is not that in to Chinese food bit even he says we are coming back. Not busy when we arrived after 3pm on Friday. Ordered from the lunch menu. Waitress even exchanged the hot soup (too spicy for me) for the egg drop soup. Also ordered from the dinner menu. Everything delish!

This restaurant has been on Balboa Island for decades and always can be found filled with both local diners and some visitors from almost anywhere. You can’t find better Chinese food that Shanghai Pine Gardens. The first time I ever had MuSu Pork was here about 40 years ago. I called it Chinese burritos and they were fantastic!! Looking forward to a return visit very soon!❤️

Best Chinese food I have found so far in Newport Beach. The restaurant offers authentic Chinese food in a no frills atmosphere. The food is fresh, not greasy, the portions are generous, all at a reasonable price. If you like San Francisco Bay Area Chinese food, you will certainly enjoy the food here.

Weve been here many times and the food is average and pretty much the only chinese restaurant in the neighborhood. They are getting a one star as they have no knowledge of cutomer service. The place is always in disarray even when not busy. Today we waited for 10 minutes upfront and no one acknowledged us. I then got the attention of a waiter ( bald guy)to ask about putting our name down. He then quesrioned the fact that we along with two other parties have been waiting for long and stated the problem was that the person whos job was to take our name was not there and walked away. We waited for another 5 minutes and still no one. We left. Obviously the staff and ownership are on to different levels and have no skin in the game. 5 peole walking around doing pretty much nothing.
