Our family has been coming here for a couple years for lunches and dinners and we love it here. The food is fresh, the interior is nice, and the staff are amazing. They are attentive, generous, and helped us when bringing our small kids. They are very kind and understanding. The specialty rolls are my favorite item here, but most things are quite good.

Came here for my girlfriends company dinner. We were seated in a private area. The service was excellent, sake was plentiful and the food never stopped coming. The finale was a whole fish sashimi that was both beautifully presented and absolutely delicious! Given the excellent quality of the food with the large party, I have no doubt their food will be great for a small party. I will definitely be coming back in the future to try their other dishes!

Absolutely loved it! They have great outdoor dining and delicious California rolls. Also, if it’s your birthday they provide you with a small mango ice cream or other dessert for free! They are quite crowded but safer than other restaurants in San Carlos as they are farther away from the main strip.

I ordered dinner from here through DoorDash last night and tried to leave a review on DoorDash, but they don’t seem to be putting it up. This was the worst sushi I’ve ever had and I got really sick ( violent stomach aches and vomiting). The sushi rolls, seaweed salad, nigiri and hand roll looked and smelled like old fish and like it had been sitting out for awhile (I should have been suspicious that it was delivered within 15 minutes after ordering on a Saturday evening). It all just seemed like very poor quality and not fresh, NOT what you want when ordering sushi especially. Even the shrimp nigiri was horrible and a rip off- they literally sliced the very top of the shrimp and placed on a bed of old smelling rice (see pic). The seaweed salad looked and tasted like it was from out of a can and was like soup with all the syrup-like sauce on it. The snow dragon roll just tasted like fake crab and mayonnaise. And the tuna hand roll was just as bad. Just for reference I do not have any food allergies and I am a regular sushi eater. I was excited to try this place out after reading some good reviews and it being my first sushi in California and man was I disappointed and sick. Save yourself the risk please and order elsewhere! I’m a nurse and just wanted to warn others.Side note: no chopsticks or soy sauce were given and there was not an option to add to the DoorDash order.

We were party of 5 on Sunday lunch. Sat down promptly near by the window. Loved the restaurant’s atmosphere, interior space, food, drinks and the service by Jesica and Ratish.We had three big hot sake and two apple juice. We started with potstickers which they call gyoza or something. They were really good so we ordered 2 more plates. We had house salad, pretty good. We ordered two ramen with pork that was just so good. Haven’t had that kind of ramen for long time. We had jalapeño Sushi which was pretty good as well.Lastly, we had different flavored ice creams; mango, strawberry and chocolate for the dessert.Oh man! good lunch, yummm and healthy.Going back again.

A favorite spot in San Carlos. The outdoor patio is great to people watch and enjoy the California weather while you dine. I love their selection of rolls. Oishi roll and seaweed salad with a light Riesling were perfect on a balmy evening.

Shiki Bistro is a very good (excellent) Sushi restaurant with extremely fresh sushi. The chefs are perfect and the food is delicious. Whether you want a sushi roll or just the fish, the place is great. Price is not cheap but sushi never is. Try it and you will be hooked!

We had a very pleasant dinner at Shiki tonight. Our sushi rolls were so good. Flavors melded well. Not too much rice and seasoned perfectly. Service was speedy. We truly enjoyed everything we ordered. Recommend for casual dining.

Sorry its not the same Shiki.Use to go to Shiki twice a mo. since 2003. Service got awful over last few years. Number of times items would be missing from a pickup order. When called the best they would offer is for me to go back and pick it up. No apology, no refund, no compensation of any kind! Last time I asked to speak with a manager. Kid on a phone told me that manager is buzzy and would call me back. Of cause he didnt!

Fun outdoor seating area and solid sushi! Fun and well priced. This is not super fancy omakase or anything - but it is solid and fun and tasty for a socially distant group outing outdoors. I had rainbow roll and shared some of my friends’ shrimp tempura.Some good parking in front on Friday night. The staff here is very nice! We had a blast with a variety of sushi rolls and some sake before we continued the night in downtown San Carlos. We will check this place out again next time we are hanging in San Carlos!

Its not too bad for the prices, the presentation was well done, the only downside was some of the rolls fell apart because the nori wasnt wrapped tight enough.They also had an excellent ratio for rice, just enough to pad but not too much that you felt like you were eating onigiri.

Very rude customer service. Did not get help for 15min, the bar lady ignored me the whole time. I was told to go to the bar to pick up my order by the same lady, then proceed to stop me and telling me i should not have done that. Gave me a hand gesture and very condescending.

Snow dragon roll is fresh and tasty. The bento offer a small variation when you are not hungry. I ordered a single entre Saba dish with rice and salad. It does the fine job of feeding without stuffing me. We had a delightful lunch, wife, two boys and me, to celebrate the Mothers day.

Hands down our family’s favorite place. Love the staff who remembers us and are always happy to see us even with out energetic kids. Comfortable atmosphere where we can relax. The high back booths give a semi private feel. I like the modern design with the down tempo music. Rarely have to wait for a seat. Love the cucumbertinis (make sure it’s made sweet. Can be hit or miss.) I’ve eaten a almost a hundred sushi joints and this is my favorite. The food is consistently good. Not the cheapest but I’m happy to pay a little more for quality and consistency.

The setting is nice but the food is extremely subpar. I ordered udon and it just came with broth and noodles... no toppings at all and I could have bought it at a store for $3. Lacking presentation and bare minimum quality. Their plates are chipped too which tells me theyre either super cheap or they just dont want to replace them and somebody will defintely cut themselves if they dont take care of that. The sushi was super small and almost room temperature and not made very well. It tasted ok. Everything was underwhelming. My tempura was soggy and not cooked all the way through, the dipping sauce tasted like sea water. Not worth the price and the quality and size of the sushi has degraded since I went here for my birthday in October.

I have been going to Shiki Bistro and realized how deserving they are of a review! The manager Paul truly cares about his customers experience as well as his staff.He originally introduced himself to our table and made it known that he wanted us to enjoy our night at the establishment. He could get the sense we were all having a long day.We ended up eating multiple plates of spectacular sushi and appetizers and he gave us a free dessert to end our night.This place is great for any occasion and I will definitely be a return customer!

Reasonably priced sushi. The nigiri sushi dinner combo is fresh and generously portioned. The designer rolls are OK. The happy hour (before 6pm) prices make this place busy. The serving staff is not very well experienced and the corner we sat had some strange bodily odor. The owner seems pre-occupied. Over all the service is below average but the food is OK for the price.

This is my girlfriends favorite restaurant, so I have been there many times. It has a full bar and sushi bar, and a decent Happy Hour menu. Service is friendly, bathroom is almost always clean, and you can see where they prepare the sushi. The aesthetic quality of the food varies depending on which chef is behind the bar; if they are training a new guy the proportions/quality might be a little off. best way to avoid this is to go on a Friday/Saturday night.

My family rarely is completely on board with eating at a restaurant - this one hits the mark for us every time. I want to do an extra shout out to Shiki Bistro during this COVID pandemic because they have pivoted to provide outdoor dining. Even with the temperature being 104 degrees the afternoon we were there, there was enough shade and the service was super fast. Some highlights: Goma tuna tataki, ribs, any sashimi or sushi. For us three, lunch with tip came out to $120. A bit pricey with no alcohol, but for the quality of the food, service and experience - worth the price of admission. Two thumbs up!

We were in the mood for sushi so thought we would give this place a try for lunch. Reading online that the hours were noon-10PM (on Saturdays), we arrived at 2PM to find the OPEN sign turned off, and the door locked (not just stuck, but noticeably latched in place). However, the hours posted on the door confirmed that the restaurant should have been open. As we looked inside, we could see a couple of employees (no guests) walking in the back of the restaurant, so I decided to call in and just confirm. The woman who answered confirmed the hours, and that they were indeed open. When I explained our situation and that we were outside, she had the audacity to tell me repeatedly, and with increasing aggression, that the door was NOT locked. I was so shocked by her tone and willingness to argue without even checking, as we stood there outside, that we ended up going to The Refuge down the street where food & service were wonderful. As we walked back up the street, we saw that eventually the OPEN sign had been turned on, and finally had a couple of people sitting inside, so I guess they figured it out eventually. It is a shame that it had to come at the expense of our lunch.

This place only survives because theres not that many other sushi options in San Carlos. Super slow service combined with less than fresh fish. We had the sashimi platter and for $48, you get a lot of fish that are all grainy because it simply isnt fresh. Udon was ok but didnt feel authentically prepared and more of the packaged off-the-shelf variant. Salmon wrapped pan-fried scallop was just bland... wont be returning.

One would think that during off-peak hours between lunch and dinner, with almost no customers in the restaurant, that there would be little wait and little difficulty acquiring service. This would be a mistake.Shiki attempts to create a cyberpunk aesthetic with its hexagonal chopsticks, its off-kilter bowls, and its glass-and-tile design. Certainly they succeed inasmuch as after ordering a simple tuna-and-cucumber roll (which caused the waitress to gawp with incomprehension), we didnt receive our meal until 2049.I rather liked the tea. Wouldve been nice to have more than one cup, but alas, since the waitstaff were all ninja, I never saw anyone to refill it.Their goma tuna tataki was quite tasty and seared to just the right level of texture, which is probably why it was featured on three different menu items - focus on what you do well. Compared to the tuna rolls...The vegetable gyoza was squishy. Kind of like edamame, except youre eating the bean pod as well.If youre looking for a cheap Japanese-style luncheon, well, this place isnt it. If you just want a quick roll, uh, also not it. If you want to hang out in a trendy joint in a faux leather jacket with a contemporary punk hairstyle, this is probably the place to do the photoshoot.
