Shin Sushi in Encino

Disclaimer: My visit to this restaurant took place over a year ago.I felt compelled to write this review after my recent visit to Japan and the experience I had with its incredible cuisine.After seeing Shin Sushi in the Michelin guide, I decided to book a reservation (required) for my birthday last year. The experience was quite a memorable one. The décor and general vibe of the restaurant certainly doesnt scream Michelin star, but the food more than makes up for this.The meal is Omakase style and started with an assortment of seasonal Japanese vegetables and small bites, each one unique and delicious. Then the sushi began and unsurprisingly was the star of the show. The chef took great care with each and every piece, expertly forming the sushi, explaining where the fish came from and what it meant to him personally. Every bite was bliss, washed down with what is the best miso soup (or any soup for that matter) Ive ever had - truly exceptional depth and balance of flavors. There was no dish that left me even slightly disappointed and dessert is highly recommended.It was extremely apparent that the chef wanted to provide the best culinary experience he could to each guest at his 8-seat sushi bar. On top of that, he was very friendly and a joy to converse with/learn more about.I felt compelled to write this review after my recent visit to Japan, where it was my mission to find excellent sushi almost everyday. I have to say that nothing we tried in Japan was equivalent to the meal we had at Shin Sushi (how lucky Angelenos are to have such incredible cuisine from so many different cultures).What a treat, I hope to be back soon.

Great experience. High quality fish, excellent service, and lovely atmosphere. My favorite was the Tofu dessert at the end. The chef makes the best Tofu Ive ever had and then pairs it with the best kuromitsu Ive ever had.

A delicious and intimate experience. The chef is funny and warm. He walked us easily through every dish and piece of sushi that was served.Artfully prepared, carefully marinated. Simple things like tofu and miso soup have been elevated enough to make you wonder if youve ever really tried them before. They could have served me a brick and it would have been delicious.Pulling all this off with such a small team as well? Well worth grabbing a reservation.

Amazing sushi omakase. Only 8 seats available and a reservation is a must. The chef was very personable and every piece of nigiri was absolutely amazing. Definitely recommend the tofu mousse at the end.

Amazing Omakase where you can tell everything was made with care. Delicious flavors, great presentation and the chef guides you through a nice experience. It’s almost like traveling (use your imagination) and tasting the food from specific places.I recommend trying to bring yourself to be as present as you can be and you’ll enjoy this meal at the most.Make your reservation and honor it. Cancel ahead of time if you can’t go.

One of the best sushi Ive ever had in my life. The sushi rice was just right and perfect - a little warm, so airy and light, the rice not sticking together. When the sushi rice is right, you know the sushi is true authentic sushi. The fish was so fresh as well. Sooooo good!!🥳

We went to try good sushi in LA and definitely was AMAZING food and Japanese variety of beers, very authentic. The most important other than good food was the service. Alondra, a very kind and friendly waitress, explained us what was each plate and even made great recommendations!! She made our day there!! Recommended 100%

This is one of those places that when you enter you realize that you will live something special. Each piece was a new experience for me, prepared with the dedication of a master who knows very well what he is doing, incredible flavors and textures, Just perfect!
