I have been to many of the super expensive sushi spots, but this place is one of the best in all of LA! They are very reasonable priced for such high-quality sashimi and sushi. The soft shelled crab appetizer was delicious. Dont judge the book by the cover. I was super surprised by this place

Some of the best sushi I ever had! The fish was extremely fresh and presented well. I really enjoyed the friendly service and warm atmosphere, a perfect date night. The sushi arrangement (pic attached) was some of the best. From the time we got there until we left, we were very happy!

Delicious food, great service. We popped in at open on a Sunday before our concert at the Bowl and everyone was nice, the food was fresh and tasty. I highly recommend if you are staying nearby or on your way to a concert!

This place is a hidden gem. The food is very good and the costumer service is excellent. A little on the pricey side for sushi but its worth it. The quality of the fish is very good. And the pieces are generous. I got the Salmon and the Yellow Tail sushi and boy my tummy was very happy. The restaurant is very nice. You really cant see that from outside but its very spacious inside and very nicely decorated. Dim lighting with light colored wood floors and tables. Ill definitely come back to this place again.

First time here. Loved it! We arrived at 5:30, were seated right away, the staff was very friendly and accommodating to me, and my two small children 😀 . The food was very good, and reasonably priced. I would have liked to see a small ginger salad and miso soup come with the entries, but not a problem. We had a great experience, and they werent mask nazis.

This location I was told about as soon as I moved to my hollywood apartment - I loved how they make their green beans and very very happy to enjoy their sake and fresh beautifully made sushi rolls. As soon as outside dining opens again ill be there to celebrate this amazing location and its incredible foods. Thank you for what you do.

While on vacation from WA state, we walked from the Hilton to this restaurant after doing a Google search for nearby restaurants. The reviews did not disappoint; the service was just as excellent as the food. Theres a pretty diverse sushi menu and it was reasonably priced. Very fresh and prepared deliciously.

Rolls were absolutely delicious. Nice portion sizes- not too big not too small. Tasted fresh & authentic. My only complaint was an $18 roll was missing and upon calling the man who answered refused to admit it wasn’t in my order. After arguing for a bit and getting left on hold the manager answered and said he would give me a credit due to being unable to refund. I accepted & as long as they follow through I definitely recommend getting sushi from this spot.

4.5 stars. A nice no frills spot in terms of decor but with great food and service. The Hamapeno, Spicy tuna crispy rice, and Baked black cod were great starters. The shishito peppers were good, but I just prefer then to be grilled / charred and these had a sauce on top. The unagi Don was really tasty, but I thought had a bit too much eel sauce.

As someone that love GREAT sushi in the best quality I can tell you this one of the BEST sushi spots in LA! Amazing service, the nicest stuff and the freshest, yummiest fish! I used to visit this place often, I mean often, did I say often and today I was greeted by a rude women serving lunch. When I walked inside @1:35pm showed her my card to be seated and she said we close in 15min. I asked her do they close at 2:30pm. She replied yes but you have to hurry, dont give me an attitude, I can refuse service, I replied excuse me she shook her head and said no I dont want to talk to you. I was taken back quite surprised I have NEVER received this type of greeting here as if we are not living in enough challenging times where treating customers as Human Beings dont even matter. I will NEVER refer another person here again this was a place where I once felt welcomed & called my sushi home. Watch who you leave in charge of your business family or not. Being Rude & Disrespectful in intolerable & unnecessary..

Shintaro was a nice place to eat, the staff was lovely and very accommodating. The sushi, in my opinion, was subpar. Many of the rolls had avocado and when a roll has 3 ingredients (fish, avocado, and cream cheese) and is missing one main ingredient, it sounds that much less appealing. Having said that, if they did have avocado I would have rated this place a 4/5.

Last nights dinner was so good and so fun that I couldnt wait to write this review. Everything piece of sushi was delicious, every glass of cocktail was well made, and every person here was friendly, the whole dining experience here was amazing. Even the chefs werent Japanese, their sushi tasted a lot better than a lot of better than those Japanese chefs sushi. I cant wait to come here again!

I’m an east coaster on vacation, so my palate may not be as refined as hard core Californian sushi eaters. But to me, the food was absolutely fantastic. Service was also top notch, extremely attentive. Great place to grab Japanese. What we ate:Spicy Tuna Roll, Amberjack sushi pieces, Tuna Belly sushi pieces, Rainbow Roll (amazing), Shintaro roll. Kids had beef tataki and chicken katsu.

Visiting from Denver and walked to this neighborhood gem from my hotel. I sat at the sushi bar and ordered from the specials board: Toro, yellowtail belly, sea eel and blue crab hand roll. The quality of the fish was equal to that Ive had in NYC and Japan. Presentation of the sashimi was thoughtful and unique. Service was impeccable. Everyone greeted me warmly and made me feel appreciated. Thank you Shintaro! I look forward to my next visit.

Great local sushi place.They have a lot of options without trying to be too cool (no crazy deep-fried American rolls here) or too fancy (like overcharging for a piece of fish because they added sauce to a plate).Just a simple, legit Japanese restaurant with great service, good food, and fresh fish.Actually surprised they dont charge more than they do, but thats just another one of the advantages of this place. I would describe it as a special Japanese microcosm in Hollywood. Walk inside from under the lit-up Billboard chaos on Highland and find a soft, relaxing atmosphere with old Japanese films playing on the back wall. The soothing material textures and sound design made me feel as though I was in a spa rather than a sushi restaurant.On that note, the sushi here is excellent. I had yellowtail, spicy tuna and ell, all of which were on point. Spicy Tuna on crispy rice is interesting. Service is relaxed and good. Nice seaweed salad. Nice green tea. Delicious green tea tempura ice cream. I think its good for the price and location.

Frauds! (This an edit to my original review) A few days after our dinner we noticed theyd given themselves $10 extra tip! Well report these frauds to our credit card company. Never again. P.s. closely read the negative reviews here. Apparently they have a history of fraudulent tip behavior.Original review: The most overpriced dinner Ive ever had. One of my go to spots in Hollywood and I am a big time sushi guy. I wont just go anywhere. If youre really going for good sushi without the frills (i.e. Katsuya) or dont want to break the bank, definitely recommend this spot. Fresh, tasty, the classics as well as some of their own creations. Plus it doesnt get too crazy packed. Service has always been really attentive. Check it out.

Tourists beware, you may need reservations. We were ignorant that this place needed reservations, even seemed to aggravate the hostess but she seated us right away. The waiter was super nice and accommodating, but the food was just okay, another cookie-cutter, typical US sushiya restaurant. I had a few assorted pieces sashimi which was fresh and quite delicious. Minus 1 star for the unwelcomed feeling the hostess gave us and minus 1 star for being in the heart of Los Angeles but average, inchiki, Japanese restaurant.

The food is not bad but its also not worth its price. The rib eye teriyaki is really just a regular beef teriyaki that resembles Sansais Japanese beef bowl, which is priced lower. The red dragon rolls quality is very similar to Pavilion or Ralphs. Overall very underwhelming for what is being advertised.
