Stopped by Shores Bar and Kitchen for lunch and had a fantastic experience. I shared a smash burger and their Nashville Hot Chicken sandwich with a friend and both were phenomenal! The fries were also super delicious and unlike any fries in the area! Staff was friendly and attentive. Overall a great experience and I look forward to coming back and trying other things from their new menu.

The chicken sandwich and the cheese steak are eyes roll back in your head good. Tried the cheese steak today and I cleaned my plate, even drank the au jus (dont judge me). I had to remind myself to take a pic before I inhaled the rest of it. The fries have the thinnest layer of crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. I love inland tavern.Its our spot on Fridays at noon (and the occasional Monday-Thursday too. Again, dont judge me). I worked at penny lane when I was a kid and now Pete the owner is a buddy, even pours my buenavesa as soon as he sees me pull up.With all the changes going on in San Marcos its nice to have a spot like the tavern that only gets better with age!

Went for the after lunch time and it was perfect. Had an awesome Modern Times cold beer with the Cardiff Crack Tri-tip Sandwich and friend had the Quinoa Salad. Cant say Ive ever had a better steak sandwich! Service was fantastic & friendly. Cant wait to visit again! Maybe for the Sunday live music brunch!!

Great beer selection, friendly staff (even to non-regulars), food was exactly what you expect when you think of bar food. Overall the place is a dressed up dive with a beach vibe. Fortunately, being in San Marcos, you don’t have to deal with the typical San Diego beach experience. Would definitely recommend visiting if you’re in the area.

Thank you for the wonderful tableservice Fabian, and I appreciate the concern of Jose for my mothers comfort (he turned on the heater when he saw my mother was getting cold). Thank you, Chayo, for the delicious food! An excellent experience! The twist on your chicken and waffles was delightful and I was surprised by the generous portions. The appetizer nachos were definitely meant for a party to share! The Cuban and Heart of Crack sandwiches were giant! so make sure youre hungry!

What a awesome venue. Great place to support because of the awesome food and environment but also because the support the community. We had a dine out for one of our San Marcos elementary schools here last night and it was amazing. The owner came around and made sure everyone was enjoying themselves and had everything they wanted. The server was also really great. He was able to handle all the chaos of kids running around and still have a great and fun attitude. A new family favorite. Thank you Inland Tavern.

Another great experience at Inland. If youre looking for a great selection of beer on tap, an excellent food menu with quality ingredients, and a comfortable environment with friendly staff, then stop looking and come over to Inland!Ive been consistently impressed by the depth and sophistication of their food menu. It is by far the best kitchen in town, with items to please everyone in the family, even the kids!Their revolving tap selection is filled with familiar home-run beers, but with some excellent hard to find choices as well. And they have a great full bar!Congratulations, you just found your new favorite place in town!

This place is a lot of fun. They throw events all the time including Prohibition events before legalization. They have karaoke every Sunday with a few regulars that arent bad. Its small but good times when they have something going in. Mike Pinto was last week.

We tried this place for dinner because its nearby and I was curious. Its a small dining area with a bar and some outdoor seating. The beer selection was OK and the food was good and inexpensive. It caters to a younger crowd though. Lots of smokers outside and loud music playing too.

A seventieth birthday doesnt come often, but when it does arrive and you want to throw a surprise party, you want it to be special for the person...well bravo to the staff at Penny Lane. Melissa, Zack, and Alice, went above and beyond what we have been used to in the past at other restaurants. Thirty people in our party had not one complaint, everyone raved about the food which ranged from great burgers to outstanding shepherds pie.The service was outstanding, the bartender and staff went out of their way to make the party a success, ( including running to the store for me because I neglected to bring candles for the cake ) the fish and chips were to die for. Kudos to the chef. It will probably be another day before my wife comes back down to earth. English pub atmosphere, great food and people. Do yourself a favor and try this place. You will not regret it.

On Friday 1/18/19, my friend and I were extremely mistreated at the Inland Tavern. At around 10pm, we entered the restaurant/ bar and headed to the bathroom line. There are two bathrooms, both with UNISEX signs. There was a long line of females outside of one restroom, and the second had no line. A few girls used the restroom without a line before us, and once free, my friend and I decided to quickly use the available one instead of continuing to wait in the line outside of the second room. As soon as we entered, there was loud abrupt banging on the door. We immediately opened the door, to have a few men looking at us angrily. I promptly pointed out that there was a UNISEX sign outside of the door. One of the men, grabbed my arm and pushed me out, ushering me in front of him saying alright, thats it, you need to leave. I immediately said dont touch me and tried to ask him why we were being (not nicely) asked to leave. He didnt care to answer, and continued to follow us out with a blinding flashlight on top of us the entire time leading to outside and down the steps. (The man was apparently a manager, of Asian descent). I tried to ask to ask the security, and a second manager that came out why we were forced to leave for using a unisex bathroom. The security said that at night time, the restrooms switch to male/ female.. but there was no sign, notice, or calm explanation.I will NEVER go to this business again, and I will make a point to ensure this HUGE issue to brought to the authorities. My friend and I were Hispanic, and felt that we were being discriminated against as there were several other girls who used the unisex bathroom before us and didnt endure this mistreatment. The building is no up-to-code if females are being kicked out for using a UNISEX bathroom. It was a completely disgusting and despicable mistreatment. Dont support a business that kicks females out for no reason, is abusive to their patrons, and discriminates against those who enter.

This place is to small, they need to have more control of who goes in(weekends). pretty sure its a fire department violation having over occupants. If it wasnt for the DJ this place would completely fail. Bathroom always seem to be missing TP and dirty. Security guards there seem to know the locals but mistreat the new comers which is fine because I will not be attending this business ever again.

The place was Dead on a Saturday night. I guess a small place like this with s too bright light outside on a patio? I would go somewhere else. I gave 2 stars 1 for the guy bartender and 1 for the clean restroom. The other waitress there needs to be more friendlier smile more, anyways thats how you get tips right? Anyways dont waste your time here. I normally give good review if its the truth. Lots of places to choose from and classier management needs to do some cleaning.

Appetizers are good which is the only reason I gave it the rating. The service is horrid, no matter when Ive gone. Ive gone during events, Ive gone on just a regular weekend and gone during Latin nights and its the same routine. It takes me close to 10 minutes before a server even gets to me so that I can order. Theres no sense of urgency when it comes to serving patrons.

They cant keep up with clients and will lose track of orders to charge you credit card. They charge me $17 for 1 mix drink n miss place my card. N they charge different orders on my girlfriends card. She had to call her bank to fix it. Be careful

Probably did it wrong. We went in and seated ourselves. No acknowledgement from the huy watching football behind the bar. Not sure if there is or was a wait staff nobody bothered to look our way for the ten minutes we sat there. Nice place if you want to watch loud football. We looked up the menu online but ten minutes was more than enough time to get me started for lunch. We’re moving to San Marcos in a few years so it’s nice to know where not to go.

Interesting little place.they were setting up for a banda that night so they moved people from thier seats to either outside or the other end of the bar. Luckily we were already at the other end. Id have frowned on having to be moved. One bartender...one waitress And were out of the 2 beers we wanted..waitress said the menu had not been updated.. Not well managed.

My wife and I stopped in for a late dinner on a Monday night. Even though it was late and quiet the bartender (Brandon) was super accommodating and happy to serve us. I know what I like when it comes to beer but Im always up for something new. I told Brandon what I like and he offered to surprise me. He nailed it both times with two different IPAs. The carnitas tacos were delicious. Looking for a quiet place to hang after a long Monday? Definitely stop in!

Awful, I went there again having experience about 8 months ago. The food then was real good, music good, service...enhhh. Just came back, from there today.My wife ordered a Caesar salad. Someone chopped off the end of a lettuce, spread out the leaves, splashed some nasty stuff on it and called it good. No bread, no nothing else. I ordered the fish and chips expecting it to be the same as before which was nice light batter on flakey fish. What I got was rhino skin on mushy fish. The fries tasted awful too. I choked some of it down. We paid and left with a literal nasty taste in our mouths. On the bright side, the music was still good.

Penny Lane is dead, stamped out like those elongated pennys you buy at amusement parks, but turned into something better.Inland Tavern has redone the entire place, gotten rid of the grungy British theme and gone for a Carlsbad laid back almost surfer vibe. Contemporary lighting, furniture and a beer menu to be proud of. Where they are lacking is in the food department. When they say small bites, they mean small. The layout is bigger and more spacious.Service is always good when the 90s music comes on for the 30 somethings and it makes the 20 somethings uncomfortably young. Bartenders are great (Evan), friendly, so is the barbacks, regularly mixing it up. Price is ok, it sits between Church and Bellows. The menu I gave a fair shake at and it came up lacking. Its all bark and no bite.You see Poutine on a menu and you get it, but when you realize its got less fries than you find at the bottom of the bag when you go to a fast food place, your pretty unimpressed. They skimp on the gravy and the curds which are really supposed to be the star of the dish. Fries are good, crisp and fluffy. Gravy is only ok, the term demi just means half, but sounds fancier than it is. Flat bread is really quite good, but the entire dish is about the size of a Samsung Note 4/Iphone 6 Plus. Mind blowingly small. The bread is good, toppings varied, but missing the freshness of a herbd sauce like pesto or fresh herbs in the tomato sauce used. Fried chicken skins, hell yeah. Super good and super bad for you. Im a ranch fanatic and this does not go with fried chicken skins. Salt and vinegar would be the only real flavoring for this, maybe some cayenne. The ranch is runny and lacks the freshness of top notch ranches. Go with the hummus, its cauliflower and light, the best value of the apps. Escabeche is great because they use fresh herbs and they use COP fish, shout out to Tommy Gomes.Bahn Mi is far more torta, than bahn mi, not that filling or worth $12, thats a steep price increase considering down the street they serve the real stuff for 1/3 the cost. Wings are good, not over fried, of good size too. The sriracha buffalo is too sweet and Im kind of sad they are missing a lemon pepper. Ginger teriyaki is mellow as is the habanero pink peppercorn. The dry rubs fall short on each flavor, not that the wet are amazing, just pretty good.They have decent tacos, thats what I think they will be known for. They are large and meaty, but not all that well put together. The salsas arent specifically matched to each. Shrimp has great crunch, but is missing seasoning on the shrimp. Carnitas is interesting taking pulled pork, calling it carnitas, peanuts and kung pao seasoning. Carne asad is rich, various colors, textures and probably the best overall flavor. I like the pickled onions on the fish taco, the tempura battering is also nice, but wasnt that impressed with the fish itself, but Im also not a fan of white fish. Personally I prefer shark for authenticity.Beer menu is pretty legit with some ones you wont find around here or at many other gastros. The cocktails are good, but not craft, strong and well made. They are supporting local Ballast Point spirits which I really like.The crowd is a mix of the old drunk locals and the younger CSUSM crowd along with the Craft crawlers looking to change from their usual brewery runs. They arent very busy midweek, or weekends and see the occasional party bus. Plenty of parking and a cleaner front façade is very inviting. TVs dont detract or make it feel like a sports bar. Enough side space for dinner, patio space for bunch and a side stage for karaoke.They lack the signature dishes of other places down SMB, but they do fill a spot that finds Church too grimy, and Bellows to anti social. They are still finding their identity and its a place filling in the evolutionary gap east of the coastal cities. While I hesitate to call them a gastropub its a nice local fusion.

The Ben Vereen looking-dude which was their security was on his job.. bartenders are nice however security should pay attention more to the dance floor when others try to push their way in other peoples Circle when theyre not wanted yet warned a # of times.. it was my girlfriends daughters birthday and I didnt want to spoil it by having to knock someone out so I made somewhat of an early exit
