2023-10-31 00:58:54This is the best place around for authentic sushi. Not so much if you like Americanized sushi rolls loaded with mayo and fried things. Highly recommend sitting at the bar and ordering omakase

2023-11-29 06:17:54The sushi here is still really good but the quality in the nigiri and rolls are not the same. I understand the prices rising because the prices have risen everywhere but the portions are extreme small. This used to be my go to spot but now sad to say, not so much.

2021-06-05 06:38:18Definitely some of the best sushi Ive had. It was a bit of a long wait, but it was definitely worth it. I mostly tried their sushi and I was not disappointed. Apart from the food the service was fantastic and our waitress was pretty awesome. Great food, great service, honestly what more can you ask for? Id definitely come back to try out the rest of their menu.

2021-12-11 17:37:44What makes Shunka Sushi special is their wide seasonal selection of fish from Japan. If you are interesting in trying some new fish that go beyond your neighborhood sushi join, look no further than Shunka. Here you can order an omakase to get the chefs choice of seasonal fish. They are now offering different sizes to fit your appetite. If that doesnt work for you, you can always order what you want, or even get some rolls. If there is truly something you have your heart set on, considering calling ahead to see if the restaurant has it or can set it aside for you. Some of my favorite items like amaebi may get sold out, but oh is it ever worth it.

2023-10-02 01:41:38Sit at the sushi bar. Hopefully youll get Tomo as your sushi chef. Fish was super fresh and delicious. We got the 8 piece omakase and hand roll. We also ordered additional fish and asked for Tomos recommendation. He had 2 live shrimp left, turned them into nigiri and fried the heads. An absolute delight. If youre in the Costa Mesa area you need to go here if youre a sushi fan. 10/10 recommend.

2021-09-02 17:28:48Good sushi place but I would say its one level below Nana San or San shi go in terms of the sushi and its a bit more expensive as well. The king salmon, Spanish mackerel and toro stood out among the nigiri I tried, the rest are just okay/good enough... I feel that the madai, which was highly recommended by our waitress on the from Japan menu was nothing special which is why it was masked with a chili flake sauce/topping. Good place but not great.

2022-05-08 21:30:37Came here for omakase. Food and service was good. I think vince(?) was our servers name. All the workers are soooo cute and expressed alot of gratitude while we were there. They also surprised me by coming out& singing happy birthday to us. I definitely would come back !

2021-01-08 23:19:09I recently ordered a takout order for Shunka; I have been here in the past but this was my first time ordering takeout since the pandemic. Phone ordering was easy and they were very flexible about customization of rolls etc. I ordered the 369 Roll, California Cut Roll with added masago, Crunchy Roll, Blue Crab Cut Roll, Shima Aji Sushi, Yellowtail Belly, Fresh Water Eel Sushi, Uni Sushi and Chirashi Lunch Special Bowl.Preparation took about 30 minutes and pick up was easy and convenient. The food quality is amazing, I especially recommend the Blue Crab Cut Roll which usually comes as a handroll for $12 but you can ask them to make it a cut roll for around $15 I think. The yellowtail belly was perfectly tender and flavorful as were the other cuts. The chirashi bowl is a great deal in my opinion, especially for lunch. The total for this lunch cost around $108 pre-tip for 3 people which I believe is quite reasonable given other places. The size may be smaller than other places in terms of the sashimi and sushi but the quality more than makes up for it. I would highly highly recommend this place!

2020-10-18 22:24:40It had been over a year since the last time I dined here. Came back for the Omakase. The quality of the fish were not as excellent as last year. But still tasty.Service was a bit slow but it could have been due to the tremendous to go orders they were getting. My favorites in no particular order:-black cod was so creamy and savory.-hamachi was fatty and smooth-sea scallop was amazing-snapper was firm and the spicy red garlic sauce on top was perfect pairingThankfully, the restaurant was following all COVID guidelines. Temp check at the door, wearing masks, etc.
