Excellent cocktails. Cannot emphasize enough how well-balanced these drinks are. The one percenter was the smoothest spirit-forward bourbon drink I’ve had. Crushing turts was gorgeously presented an delicious with a distinctive funkiness. Bartenders were friendly, answered questions willingly, service was quick. The wasabi fries were delicious and creative, General Tso’s chicken was tasty. The outlier was the lo mein noodles, which were a bit bland. Would definitely return.

Sidecar was an awesome experience. We were back in town for a wedding and it was our first time at the new location. We sat on the patio overlooking the stream and it was great! The drinks were excellent (as expected) and the food was awesome as well! Highly recommend the Chicago dog and the brussel sprouts.

For a cocktail bar with a small food menu, the dishes are surprisingly well executed. Theyre well thought out and meticulously crafted, just like their cocktails. There were a couple minor service hiccups, but the food and drink, as well as the proactive attitude of the staff, means this place still deserves 5 stars at least for the day I was there.Update: Ive learned that some staff have a brazenly indifferent attitude.

This place is great, as the reviews state. Indoor and outdoor seating, but everyone orders outside. They take breakfast to the next level, beyond your standard cafes or breakfast locations in SLO. Coffee/Tea selection is Wonderful, while taking pride in how it is served. We were a party of 6, which 3 kids, and it worked well. Also dog friendly outside.

Went there on a Saturday with a couple friends. I had a little too much to drink and was falling asleep at a table. I was 100% in the wrong for that. Got up with my friend to use the bathroom (to throw up) and the bartenders rushed us, saying I had just thrown up everywhere. They took our brand new drinks, saying there was vomit in them, and kicked us out. Neither of us were sober enough to refuse but after coming to the next day, recalled the entire experience and am 100% sure that they lied to our face. I understand why they took the drinks but totally not okay to lie. I did confront them in the moment saying I had not just thrown up, but obviously they didn’t acknowledge it. The whole experience was so bizarre and awful. I did not grab my jacket before being kicked out and it was not in their lost and found when I called on their next open day which was Wednesday. Literally the worst bar experience I’ve ever had.

I cant ever wait to go back to sidecar! Its always first up on my list of places to go. The appetizers are always amazing, the Brussel sprouts and tater tots are always a must. The hand crafted cocktails are the best in town, the main courses are worth every calorie and penny. I would eat breakfast lunch and dinner here everyday if it was possible. The staff is always friendly and amazing. Its the perfect place for date night, dinner with friends, a celebration or brunch. 10/10 best place in slo!

The best place downtown for proper cocktail. The bartenders are mixologists that know their tradecraft. There is an ever evolving cocktail and food menu with something for everyone. Great atmosphere for small meetups or a party of old friends. The burger and steak entree options are phenomenal. A secondary spot is opening up soon down the street and should be an amazing addition.

I loved the old fashioned. A strong smoky wood aroma. It smelled like a warm fire on Christmas day.Ordered the hummus and the cheese dip for the table. The hummus was more of a bean dip. But combined with the cheese dip: 😙👌.They have large portion sizes for some items, almost too big. I ordered the street dog, and I got way more than I expected. I could barely finish the hot dog part, didnt get to the fries. The rice bowl also looked pretty big.

We had an excellent experience at Sidecar! We sat at the bar, which I highly recommend and Sean (Shaun? Shawn?) made us some excellent custom cocktails to fit our tastes! The spicy gin martini and a riff on a mezcal negroni were excellent! We also ended up ordering the fried pickles which were delicious. Great cocktail bar and will definitely be back the next time we are in SLO!

I was in town a couple weeks ago and needed a place to catch a bite. This place was in my Recommendations because I was looking for a place that was dog friendly. The food was as amazing as all the reviews said and the drinks were quite interesting. I was not disappointed.But I was disappointed in the dog friendly part. Yes, they were friendly with my pooch and she was able to sit with me, but there werent any dog options. Some restaurants will have dog bowls for water, maybe some free treats or even a dog-menu. But there wasnt even a water bowl and they clearly knew my dog was with me. The server never offered, asked, or even mentioned if I needed anything for her. Every dog-friendly restaurant Ive been to usually has SOMETHING... at least a water bowl. So, yes, you can bring your dog and sit on the patio, but dont expect any accoutrements.

Went here twice in two days. Great bar with a nice vibe and innovative, well-made drinks. We were there on a Monday and a Tuesday and both nights the place was pretty chill. If youre looking for a scene, maybe the weekend? It wasnt busy when we were there. Tuesday tiki night CANNOT be missed. Were huge tiki-philes and for a place that isnt exclusively tiki, they did a phenomenal job. They even had appropriate glasses! The classics were perfect and their house-innovated drinks definitely in the proper spirit. Weve been to actual tiki bars that were much less good. Any time were in SLO, this is our watering hole.

The food at sidecar is delicious, but thats not really why you go to Sidecar. You go to sidecar because you want an excellent original cocktail. Sidecar just rolled out a new cocktail menu a couple of days ago and you can find a cocktail called Dream Corp. All I really remember about this cocktail is that it has carrot and tequila in it. I believe is topped off with a little bit of paprika. Delicious.

On vacation from the east coast and my cousin recommended this place. Pulled up and it was very busy, but hostess pointed us to a couple of seats on the innermost side of the bar. These seats gave us a great view of the bartenders as they worked their magic. Bar is beautiful, long marble slab. Bar is set up well, every bottle had its own place, very orderly and well maintained. Bartenders were very clean and efficient with their pours, no wasted effort and no spills, makes for a great viewing experience. Two of the bartenders we spoke to, Luke and Sean, were very welcoming and made us feel right at home. The place was slammed but all the bartenders were cool as cucumbers. I had the Memaw’s cobbler, which was very light and not overly sweet, hard for a drink with bourbon and peach liqueur. I also had The E.P. which is one of the most well-balanced mezcal drinks I’ve ever had, blending green chili and cayenne tincture to smoldering coals instead of a blazing inferno that most spicy drinks end up coming out as. My wife got the Kuzco’s poison, which is one of those dangerously delicious drinks you order 3 too many of. I also appreciate the reference to The Emperor’s New Groove. Luke also makes a mean Pisco Sour. Wish we were staying for more than just a night in SLO. This place is a destination stop and makes you wish you were a regular. Cheers!

BARTENDING SERVICES (not restaurant)My wife and I recently hired Sidecar to provide bartending services for our small wedding in Templeton, CA. We spoke with Danielle about our signature cocktails, wine table service and paid for her recommended luxe package and two staff to service our event. We kept our wine and champagne chilled and the rest of our alcohol cool for days prior to the wedding reception. We followed Sidecar’s recommended shopping list and ultimately purchased nearly 120 bottles of alcohol. The 32 adults present generally drink and like wine so it would be rather uncommon that at the end of an evening such as this, less than twenty bottles of alcohol had even been opened. Here are some highlights of our evening with Sidecar:We spent $3500 on almost 120 bottles of alcohol that their bartenders actively chose not to provide to our guests.They refused to make the signature old fashioned recipe that we agreed upon and provided all the components for. My new father-in-law even called them out on it. Given that this was his recipe, he knew that this was not our requested drink. He asked the bartenders to use the maple syrup (per the recipe) that we had provided and their response? “No sir, our simple syrup is fine.”Their bartenders decided they were on break during dinner service, so people were not getting table service until we went up to the “CLOSED” bar (by the way, no one bothered explaining to us that our bar would be closed during dinner) and explained that people should be getting wine served to them. When they did finally start table service, they went around asking red or white. This would have been fine if we hadn’t provided a Sav Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Cab Sav, and Champagne. Therefore, almost 40 bottles of wine we purchased went untouched because our guests simply didn’t know they were an option. To top it all off the Cab Sav was served HOT. We chilled that wine for TWO DAYS prior!In simple terms, while our guests had dinner, one of your bartenders stood behind the bar with a closed sign and we found the other one socializing in the kitchen. How is it possible we had to explain to TWO bartenders that it was their job to serve the alcohol.They put out a tip jar without our permission and given that we were advised to tip them 20% already, it certainly looked tacky given what we know we had already paid for their services.We feel as though we had enough discussion with Danielle to understand our expectations and we were under the impression we were going to have the best bartending service in SLO. Their bartenders ability to serve our guests wine, make cocktails, and even have good attitudes was a complete embarrassment. They were by far the sore thumb of our entire event and multiple guests complained to us about their service and attitudes.

Sidecar has a great atmosphere and a fun cocktail menu. I forget the name of the two cocktails we ordered, but one had a Japanese whiskey and some other ingredients that included some seaweed infusions: it had a melon taste and was enjoyable. The second one was also sweet tasting and was served up, but thats all I recall. Just ask for what you are looking for and Im sure you will get a good recommendation, we did!What left the biggest impression on me was the bread pudding made from cinnamon roll. I didnt finish it, but the taste and texture made me want to order a second one. It was delicious.

(And the deviled eggs... and the chicken pot pie), they have a great cocktail menu, the bartenders are passionate about the drinks they create and super friendly, the owners are awesome, the brunch menu and drink specials are to die for. I ordered the hot chicken and waffles dish and I really liked it! However my son and daughter chose a different version of chicken & waffles and neither liked theirs. I think its because they were expecting boneless chicken and the waffles were churro like than the normal waffles. I really liked the flavors of the dish I chose so speaking for myself...I thought it was good! The service was great and I have always loved the atmosphere there (minus the flies!! Why are there so many in a lot of the SLO establishments??!!). The cocktails are always superb at Sidecar so definitely order some when stopping in!

First of all, not a fast or cheap experience, so dont come expecting to be in and out without dropping some $. Once youve set you expectations appropriately, come and get super tasty American/fusion food with really interesting(and pricey, as noted) cocktails. Plenty of cocktails you would never get to try or make for yourself at home, with a cozy/hip atmosphere. Pretty loud when it gets busy, so not the best place to try to have quiet conversation or connect with others in larger groups.

Ugh...the tinctures...the uncommon, high quality booze that make a foodies heart flutter...the cocktails that plague my dreams...damn you, Sidecar! Youve ruined me for life! Every drink and every dish Ive tried here (which is, admittedly, not as many as I would like) has been wonderful. The brussel sprouts in particular are perfection. Menus rotate, which is a blessing and a curse. Shop isnt huge but space is allocated well, and decor is ecclectic but comfy, matches the menus and prices well. You kind of know what to expect just by looking at the walls. I really enjoy Sidecar, and would definitely recommend it. The bartenders are kind and do well even when its busy, too, which is a bonus.

Great place to have some drinks and plates to share. Go with the bartender roulette - tell them your alcohol preference, what you like and dont like, and have then bring whatever they make. Didnt get the same drink twice and each one was delicious! Lots of variety in the plates to share - the brussel sprouts are a must and the fried elote balls are extremely tasty (the barbacoa tacos were nice and spicy, too). Fried mushrooms are tasty and the grilled cheese was cheese-a-licious! Only item that was a little odd was the brown butter hummus - it tasted like rainbow sprinkles, so be forewarned its a bit sweet. But everything was really good (especially the drinks 😊). Service was excellent as well...

The service was sub-par. This was my first time at Sidecar. It would have been nice to get some direction on the cocktails. We read through the cocktail menu and we could tell the bar tender looked irritated (he was more interested in his conversation with someone else at the bar). Nobody came to take our order for drinks as we were seated at a table. We had to go to the bar. We ordered 3 coctails but I and my friend did not enjoy them. My friend actually returned his coctail back to the bar. We told them it did not taste good. We were charged for it anyway. Rather disappointing. Doubtful I will be back and neither will my friends. Service is key. I like the concept but their type of coctails are not for me. It is definitely an acquired taste. Guidance from the bar tender would have made my experience more enjoyable and he could have recommended a cocktail I would have enjoyed. The atmosphere was cool... very retro. Their cocktails are a twist on classic cocktails, but guidance would have made this experience more enjoyable. Maybe I will give it another try to see if the service is better at night. We went at 3pm and it wasnt very busy. I believe in second chances so hopefully I can enjoy Sidecar in the future.

The cocktail crafters are artisans with fantastic palates. The cocktail list is extensive, well-thought out and balanced. There is even a cocktail to song pairing list so if you have trouble choosing one of the delicious cocktails, you could instead find your favorite song and try the cocktail that goes with it. Often when a cocktail bar has so much thought and care put into the drinks, the food suffers. But that is definitely not the case for Sidecar. Between the 8 of us, we sampled most of the menu and everything was delicious. Particular favorites are the hangar steak and burger and the crispy brussel sprouts. The potato tacos were also really good.

One of the best dinners in slo. The drink menu is incredibly extensive and some of the twists on classics are brilliant. I had the half chicken and it was honestly to die for, just a little tough to get all of the meat off. I come here every time in in town and will continue to do so.

Absolutely not.We placed our name and number on their waitlist and the brown haired hostess with the mom jeans told us it would be a 10-15 minute wait. It was a Friday night, so a wait was totally understandable. However, after many empty tables went to new groups that kept on appearing, and after the original 15 minutes turned into a half hour, we inquired inside. The hostess said she didnt have my name or my number and that they probably tried to call but we didnt pick up. Im sorry but thats totally gaslighting! (And they did have my number because I received the text confirming I had been put on the waitlist and that they would contact me when a table was ready.) After her sad attempt to remedy the situation and find a table, she proceeds to tell us very unapologetically that we would need to wait a few more minutes. Not a single sorry. She could barely muster the energy to pretend that she cared that she couldnt even do her job.I tapped my heals twice, willed myself to leave the presence of such incompetence and settled with the fact that I took this as a sign that I didnt need to spend money at this establishment. Ever. I may come back through SLO (maybe)...and if I do, I will absolutely remember to skip this place.

Cant say enough about the craft cocktails at Sidecar, but I feel like Im a biased local. Recently had Saturday brunch there and was pleasantly surprised at how amazing it was, considering the eclectic choices. I went with the avocado toast which is made with local squaw bread, and if youve never tried squaw bread, its truly a treat! Dont be scared by pickled onions ... theyre delicious, and I was inspired to go home and make my own. Went perfectly with a handcrafted Bloody Mary!

Unfortunately not the quality I expected after reading the reviews. The ceviche was completely off, with the fish being cooked and no real signs of citrus at all. The carpaccio dish was good but not actually carpaccio at all. The burgers are good but probably not worth the money. This place is clearly known for its cocktails, but if youre just going for food, maybe consider elsewhere.
