I can’t say enough good things about Jenny and Small Goods! They went out of their way last minute to make a beautiful and festive charcuterie for a gift I needed.They included the most delicious things my kids who were the recipients couldn’t get over it!! I believe the meat was Wagu… not 100% but very high end meat and cheeses! They added caramels for my granddaughters.Couldn’t be more perfect!

Small foods created a beautiful platter for my daughter’s graduation. As the event was early the next day up in LA, Mike worked with us to choose items that would last overnight and travel well. It was the perfect offering for a mid afternoon reception. It gave the party an elegant but festive feel. Even with several, diverse dietary restrictions and personal tastes, everyone enjoyed it. What a stellar shop! So cute and inviting. The rotating selection of cheeses and cured meats is top notice and unique, not like what you can find in any grocery store. Don’t miss the butters! This is an incredible cheese shop with even better company/ownership. We’ve known Jenny and Mike since before they had a storefront. Jenny is a member of the American cheese society. La Jolla doesn’t realize what a gem they have here (jk, they know, hence # of recent awards!).The cheeses are amazing, tasty, and unusual/hard to find. The meats are tasty. They always have unique items - today we bought some goat ghee! Another unique item they briefly had was a cave aged butter front Vermont that I think David Chang had special ordered. Today they had a harvest cheese that looked like a wheel made of fall sunset. The white truffle salami was very tasty. Our baby really enjoyed their baguette.I’d order their cheese trays and charcuterie boards for friends and family anytime. They have a fridge w some special soft cheeses to check out. Totally worth a stop for lunch or for a platter on your way to the beach. Hopefully you can say hi to Cash their dachshund who is also around on occasion.

Absolutely lovely place. Owners are very helpful and knowledgeable - they know their cheeses and charcuterie. Great prices for high-quality cheeses. We ordered cheese + charcuterie trays for hiking in Anza Borrego, and we couldnt be happier with the selection. Just yum! They recommended smaller plates rather than a big platter for portability while hiking, and it worked really well. They even included a list of the cheeses and charcuterie. Very pleased.

Great experience from start to finish. Mike answered the phone quickly and was able to answer all my questions without any hesitation. His knowledge in the charcuterie world is outstanding. After a few minutes talking, I took his lead on making a perfect tray for a friend’s engagement party. I picked it up a day later and without a doubt the best charcuterie tray I have had. I will absolutely be back!

I love this place sooo much! i grab to go and picnic at la jolla shores….the holy mole and phoney baloney are my faves 🤤 and get extra cheese and meat for $5 on the side. Everything is so fresh and delicious and each product is chosen with care. The owners are super nice. Amazing all around!

Food was good, but the owner was a bit weird, and pushy. My husband and i are first timers in LJ, and he aggressively insisted we try one of the cookies. he also stood around, and tried to make conversation with those around him outside, even when they seemed un interested in having a conversation. not a bad guy per say, just rubbed me the wrong way…

Me and my boyfriend decided to come to this shop in search of a charcuterie board and we were not disappointed. We came in a few minutes to closing thinking we’d missed our opportunity when we were greeted by both of the managers deciding to whip us up a board despite them both being off. The cheese board wasn’t lazily thrown together, it was beautifully and it made my entire trip to San Diego . Don’t skip this place- the prices are very reasonable and the food is top of the line ! Wish I could go there every week.

The gentleman who runs the shop is so amazingly helpful, friendly, and knowledgeable. He helped us pick out the best cheeses, and the most amazing salami when we walked in not even knowing what we wanted. He went out of his way to help us, and we are so happy that we wandered in randomly late in the day on a Saturday. Will be back for sure.

The friendliest shop in all of La Jolla! Not only are their goods delicious - but the owners are so sweet and knowledgeable of their products. We were on a Picnic experience where you pick up pre-booked orders and this was the last stop (the photo shows food from all around La Jolla) but Smallgoods was our favorite from the whole Picnic! When they learned that it was our would be wedding day that was cancelled due to Covid - they had gone out to get a mini champagne bottle and surprised us with it. Seriously, it was the most thoughtful thing EVER - and they have a customer for life. Cant wait to get more of that award winning string cheese! Smallgoods is a great small, 3-person, business in La Jolla where you can find great cheese, cured meats, sandwiches, tea, legit baguettes, all of excellent quality and flavor. Ive recently organized a virtual wine tasting for 26 people, and worked with Smallgoods to provide each person a charcuterie board large enough for 2 people. The items were absolutely exquisite and provided a range and variety of succulent flavors that would easily accommodate any wine we paired. The owners were very accommodating in adjusting the platters according to our groups different dietary restrictions and were very responsive throughout the planning stages for this event. I personally loved my platter, and Ive gotten a lot of praise from my group about theirs too; safe to say everyone was happy! (Ive included a picture of my platter which contains twice the meat, a kind donation from my undergrad whos now vegetarian, but each platter had 4-5 pieces of each cut of meat. Enough for 2 to enjoy.)I also bought 2 goat cheeses for myself, as well as a bit of black truffle butter, which were undeniably and decadently delicious. I am excited to continue to visit Smallgoods many times more!

Im so glad I walked past this place and decided to stop in! The owners couldnt have been friendlier or more helpful -- one of the owners, Jenny, is a Certified Cheese Professional and asked a bit about what I like and then made (terrific!) recommendations.And I especially like that they source from smaller American cheese makers, because it was a chance to try a new sheep milk cheese from WI and a cow milk cheese from Point Reyes. Absolutely delicious. I wish we lived in La Jolla and could buy ALL our cheese here!

Fantastic cheese shop in La Jolla. We were so thrilled to stumble on this gem in our search of good bread. We indeed found a great baguette but we also got to enjoy great cheese and produce, including the incredible smoked duck! This place is such a great concept in showcasing quality American cheese. Mike is easily the most knowledgeable meat connoisseur Ive ever come across. Ive been all over the country and tried meats from many different places but nothing has come close to what Small Goods has been able to source. I recently had the privilege to get my hands on an exclusive small batch Saucisson Sec shipped in from Babettes Table in Vermont and the experience was totally divine. Visiting SmallGoods is definitely a must have, one of a kind Artisan experience if you find yourself in La Jolla. Extremely impressive!

I’ve been here three times, the first when a really friendly gentleman, the owner possibly, waited on me and he was kind and passionate about his cheeses and other offerings. The last two times I’ve been in I’ve been “helped” by a woman who has been quite sour. As a former restaurant owner I know the stresses of running a small business but one must always remember that the reason you have an open business is solely because of the customers who support it. If you dislike what you do, find another career or look at the bright side and be happy to see and help people who go out of their way to shop at your small business. Disdain will not get you far but grace goes a long, long way.

Adorable cheese shop with the most friendly owners! We bought the soft goat and a baguette with some ice tea and it was the perfect afternoon snack! Came here looking for some specialty cheese to take home. The selection is pretty small, but the employee was very friendly and offered suggestions and samples. I ended up getting two different kinds to take home and was happy with them.However, based on all their signage, I think this is supposed to be the place you go to for their made-in-house food (sandwiches, etc), not grocery-cheese-to-go. Not sure if Id come back since its out of my way, but that seems to be what you should plan to get when coming here.

There was a misunderstanding in my order, and I didnt realize it until after leaving the shop... but the owners sorted it out with me over the phone, were beyond kind, and went above and beyond to make things right. Whenever I pick up a cheese, I go home with a smile because there’s nothing like it! The sandwiches are so fresh and filled with flavor. Im fortunate enough to be a local and when I tell you that you wont find a better shop in town, I mean it. The American Italian and Texas Wagyu are our favorites! We dont have an event without one of there cheese platters and we never go too long without getting a round of sandwiches for lunch. This place is wonderful. Its cozy and hip, clean and classy. They have an excellent selection of artisan cheeses and cured meats, as well as coffee, tea, and espresso. They will make you a cheese plate or charcuterie board, and they also have some small plate food items like empanadas, coffee cake (with a gluten free option), and Paleo protein balls (not exactly sure what those are, but they looked tasty, like truffles). I consider myself extremely lucky to live nearby La Jolla farmers market because of Smallgoods. Jenny and Mike are extremely nice and friendly and its always a joy to get to see them. Excellent presentation, punctual, super easy to deal with and local! I would do it again and highly recommend them. They don’t put a lot of “fluff” on the tray (we got a 16”) - it got demolished at the party everyone loved it.

Amazing and really friendly service! I called (from the east coast) to place an order for a surprise birthday gift and they took care of it with ease. The charcuterie board they put together was beautiful and my friend loved it. If I’m ever in the area, I will be sure to visit!

Absolute heaven! Their Mushroom and Ham & Cheese empanadas are excruciatingly wonderful. Great California cheeses from small farms.Be sure to inquire about their secret menu items. I bought homemade Boeuf Bourguignon and Bolognese from their freezer. Perfect for times like this especially...but actually for anytime. So delish! Yes, I have already tasted both.

Jenny and Mike are both so incredibly knowledgeable when it comes to cheese. The cheeses they sell are always well sourced and delicious. I was doing a cheese and beer pairing at home and Jenny was a huge help selecting the cheeses to pair with the beer. I stopped by their farmers market stand a couple weeks ahead of time to ask her about it and the day of she had everything prepared for me. I just had to stop by and grab the bag. Theyre great! I highly recommend Smallgoods for cheese, salumis, and any other yummy treats theyve acquired to share with San Diego. Also, I attended a cheese and beer class at White Labs where Jenny was teaching the cheese portion. I learned so much! Jenny is incredibly passionate about cheese and about sharing cheese and cheese knowledge. If you love cheese, do yourself a favor and introduce yourself to Jenny.

I dont know where to start. We went for coffee, iced coffee in particular. The woman was rude to my wife who asked for additional options (caramel with her macchiato) being that there arent many options for coffee. The coffee shop has 0 capabilities of presenting an iced drink other than an iced coffee. Ask for an iced latte? You get half of a plastic cup for 4.00. 4 dollars for a half of a cup. Im sorry, I know Starbucks isnt the greatest coffee in the world, but when youre competing against corporate coffee companies, your prices and presentations of the product need to be on point. As a hot drink I can understand why a macchiato doesnt fill the cup. But as an iced drink you either need to fill up the plastic cup youre presenting it in or order a smaller cup so that it looks full. Lastly, a business should NEVER use the products of another company. You need to promote your own business on your own products. You should never have some other name on your cups because 1. That looks terrible and 2. You are essentially marketing another business! Literally the dumbest thing you can possibly do. End note, the coffee is nothing special, Ill pay an extra 95 cents to go to Starbucks before I ever go there again for coffee.
