Sole Ristorante Italiano in San Mateo

A delicious culinary destination tucked away on a fun little side street in San Mateo. The food here is fresh and bright. I’ve visited a dozen times over the years and never been disappointed. My favorites are the special dishes they have every day but also the regular items like pork tenderloin and spaghetti with meatballs. The desserts are yummy and they have an extensive wine list.

Bought the seafood dish ($50 after tip and tax; $37 before tax) shown in pic.The sauce lacked depth and richness. . Felt the tomato sauce was canned rather than using fresh tomatoes. It also lacked flavor of fresh herbs you’d taste in Italy.The server was very nice tho and the bread they serve before food was good.

Love this place! The friendliest, authentic Italian-American welcome They have delicious food on the menu - we loved the bruschettas, caprese salad and truffle gnocchi. But they also will take requests from the secret menu - i usually ask for Eggplant Parmesan, they usually have it and it is the most delicious ive ever tasted! This place is a must-go if youre in San Mateo (or even witin a 25 mile radius 😁) Easy street parking right in front. Nice quiet patio at the back too.

A tiny Italian restaurant in San Mateo, perhaps family owned. We went for lunch and I should admit we had one of the best Italian food in recent times. The taste was excellent and the owner/server was super friendly. I’ll highly recommend this place if you’re in the area looking for Italian food.

Such a clean,delightful small ristorante with friendly service and delicious food! I devoured my rack of lamb ( shown here) with delicious potatoes broccoli and some tasty medallions of yellow squash/zucchini .The sauce was from raspberries and did not overwhelm with a fruity berry tasteIt complemented the entire plateI ordered medium rare which was perfect. The amazing lamb was Australian. Too bad American lamb is so disappointing and for me, inedible by comparison . Ill as sure to come backThe Tiramisu was truly yummy fresh and coffee was flavorful and delicious.

Wow. . . All I can say is wow. Food was SUPERB and service was the best of it’s kind (shout out to Karen!). We had the Salmon and Spinach Ravioli and it was the best meal I’ve had in a while!Update: Pretty much coming to this restaurant at least once a month - weve tried various menu items and can confirm that everything is delicious and service is still amazing! This is our go to for Italian.

Amazing food and super friendly service! The place where I tried the most delicious gnocchi in a world (:Soft, flavorful and melting in my mouth. Can’t stop eating them even though was not too hungry! Their capreze salad and bruschettas are true and delicious as well. The chief and owner of Sole Mario is real artist so any item of their menu is polished by years of cooking and improving. At this place I feel real home atmosphere which is so rare and appreciated

A friend brought us here based on her relatives recommendation. It reminds me of Billy Joels song minus the little village green visual bit but retaining the small cosy ambience.The foccacia spread with the tomato dressing is definitely an appetite whipper. Soup of the day is pumpkin based, delightfully creamy.We never tried Sicilian before so avoiding all the commonly seen ones that we have tried, I chose the Sedanini con Salccicia and should have stopped the cheese grated over. It would have been great if I had just said stop when I should. Still Italian sausage in it was good.My other half tried Tagliolini Scampi, which was delightful and the prawns were fresh.Its a shame that we were passing through but if we come back next time...A bottle of white, a bottle of red...

The best Italian restaurant in San Mateo! Every time I go they make me feel like I am at home or at my aunts house having a wonderful meal.

Nice place, but a little small. That didnt stop them from making excellent food. Recommend making reservations.
