New spot in Martinez. Came with friends and was pleasantly surprised. Limited menu but full of flavor. Treat yourself to the hot water cornbread. Servic seemed a tad slow and some items were missing from orders. After several reminders the missing portions were promised.

Souley Vegan is located in the Public Market which offers other food options and drinks. Nice positive vibe. I tried BBQ Tofu ( nicely prepared and nice flavor), Mashed potatoes/ gravy ( creamy). The meal also came with a corn biscuit that was delicious, crispy on the outside and just a touch of sweetness. While vegans/ vegetarians will like the food, I dont think that a regular meat eater would enjoy the food. I always appreciate eating at a place where I dont have to worry about cross contamination.Ill head back in a few weeks and try the chicken fried steak.

Everything was sensational!!! This is my new favorite spot. I got the ain’t gator Poe boy with fries, greens and the Mac and cheese and it was so good I forgot to take a picture. I also got the strawberry ginger drink but I forgot to take a picture. The pecan cake and the lemon cake were on point.The owner was there and she was super nice and so was the rest of the staff. I’ll be telling everyone I know that didn’t already know to go here. Thank you!!!Added more pictures, I took some of the fam there and they loved it.

Yas yasss and more yas. Ive been wanting to go here for years and finally got to go on a Sunday for brunch.We arrived before the big crowds came in. Completely overwhelmed, even with just the brunch menu.Everything from brunch to their full menu will make your mouth water.We got a big spread and shared, mostly. Hard to share when everything is so good.My fried chickun and waffle was bomb. Yum crispy and well seasoned.Staff is very friendly and helpful.Highly recommend.

All i can say is i went back for seconds and if you’re looking for delicious vegan soul food this is the spot. I saw reviews complaint about saltiness or this and that and i didn’t experience and of that. It was a wonderful experience with a cute dining area and bar with delicious unforgettable food.

I happened upon this place by accident. I went in and asked what was good and the server told me the #PrayForMeBurger. It was delicious and very fulfilling! I was done eating by 330 pm and was so full I didn’t need to eat anything else the rest of the night. Good music and great customer service. I highly recommend.

Came early for mother’s day brunch. We ordered the blueberry pancakes, chicken and waffles, tofu scramble and rosemary biscuit and gravy. everything was absolutely delicious! definitely the best vegan chicken and waffles i’ve ever had. the most noticeable part of our meal was the one-man show the front of house seemed to be. the gentleman who took our order was also making drinks, running food, assisting customers and the one other employee present. he did an amazing job. we did not catch his name but he definitely deserves some appreciation for all the hard work he is doing on such a busy day.our coffees did not come until quite a bit after we had finished our meal, but it was one small hiccup in an overall worth while meal :)

We fell in love with the sinful vegan food here after tasting the succulent Gator bites & the Seitan Po’ Boy. The seasoned fries were a little less spectacular, but that’s ok.The portions are humongous - one Po’ Boy was enough for the 2 of us and we still left the place feeling pretty stuffed.The staff were really friendly.

Just finished my Chicken & Waffles, Sweet Potato Pie and Strawberry Ginger Drink. I am not a huge Vegan person, I also dont eat chicken much. This was a perfect combo for me. The breading was so crispy. The teeny sweet potato pie was heavy and compact. The Strawberry Ginger Drink was on point. The music playlist was awesome. Go to Souley Vegan its yummy, especially if your Vegan! Seriously good Vegan Soul Food. I dont know how they make the butter, super yummy 😋 Oakland can always use the lovin too. I ❤️ Oakland

Lets start with dessert OH MY GOD was it good!!! I have never had such a great lemon cake let alone any cake in my entire life and have only been eating plant based for a month. We got the pray for me with dirty cajun fries, the OG southern fried tofu sandwich with dirty cajun fries, the seitan chicken and waffles, and 2 steaks as well as the aint gator bites and the sampler platter. Everything was AMAZING! The sampler platter alone came out on two plates piled to the sky. I cannot recommend this place enough. The owner was there and was super nice, and talked us through everything. Thank you Tamearra for the great food and conversation! We will be back for sure. Anyone vegan or not would be amazed by this place. Photos were of the food at our table which wasnt even half the food we got.

Food was decent but not particularly great, in my opinion. Based on other reviews I expected it to be better. The only thing that I really liked was the BBQ tofu. But this place was packed the entire time we were here so maybe its just not my type of food. Staff are very friendly and helpful. The live music was great but too loud to be able to maintain a conversation even when we were at the farthest possible table from the stage.

Stopped here for quick eats before a concert. Was recommended but was warned that they were sometimes slow. We ignored them and proceeded. We like to try for ourselves.We were a little disappointed. ☹️Cashier taking our order was very friendly. We placed our order for French fries, beer, a mixed drink and fried zucchini. You seat yourself here.My husband ordered a specific beer. He was told they were all out of that specific brand and he ordered something else. The server came out to tell him that they found one (not sure from where but he was happy) of what he asked for previously and asked if he wanted it. He said yes. The mixed drink was good.The fries came out after a wait. They were tasty. After another wait, the waitress eventually came out to tell us that they were all out of zucchini. ☹️ She again apologized. We were disappointed because we were really looking forward to trying the zucchini and we felt we were waiting a while.She apologized and refunded our money.Experience just ok. Could be better with improvements.

Saw that Souley Vegan was going to be selling their delicious vegan food at the Santa Cruz Mushroom Festival, so I went to support my favorite vegan restaurant!.Had I known they were going to take capitalism seriously I would have NEVER wasted my time and gas ( actually it was worth it to learn a lot from the presentation and other vendors).Their food stand had their 3 items beautifully displayed without prices listed ( all other food vendors had prices listed). The three items for sale were, lions mane mushroom slider or a plant based cheese burger or a kale tail. I know lions manes are costly by the pound. ONE slider cost $20! As well as the plant based cheese burger AND the ONE stalk of fried kale was $20! This explains why the prices were not displayed! If I walked by and saw the three appetizers listed for $20, I would have kept on walking!!! Could have least given 2 sliders for $20! Or fried mushrooms with the kale! Or a brown bag with at least 5 kale leaves inside. I won’t be supportive anymore after experiencing price gouging from my favorite restaurant… I was bamboozled!

This place has good music, culture and vibe. The food quality as far as taste was just so/so. As soon as you come in you order at the counter. The young man that took our order had a lack luster attitude. As we turned the corner to find a seat, we were then greeted with a warm welcome. The menu had good choices, food came out quickly and presentation was good.However, the tofu was over cooked and lacked flavor. There is no waiter/waitress service so if you want something else you have to get up, get back on line and order again. Very inconvenient. Drink was well made but came towards the end of the meal. Even with the game on and music, I was not enticed to stay.

Outstanding vegan Creole style soul food. Reminiscent of my grandmas southern cooking. I couldnt believe they had vegan gator tail!! I grew up in Florida and ate gator tail all the time as a kid and loved it!! I havent had it in years (possibly decades). Ive never seen vegan gator tail anywhere so I was really excited. The vegan gator was truly PHENOMENAL!! I am so glad we tried it-- it was my favorite thing Ive ever had here! Some other tasty things I like from here-- vegan chicken (sietan) and waffles, corn bread, fried okra, their combo plate w/collard greens, black eyed peas, yams. I am seriously eyeing that vegan calamari for next time!! As of September 2020 they are only doing online orders for pickup or takeaway. We ordered online with no problems. They of course arent allowing anyone to dine in, but we enjoyed a nice picnic on the water on Ferry Lawn.

For vegan food this place is great. Was a lil disappointed that the chocolate sauce and the étouffée wasn’t sealed correctly. Other then that the food tasted great I ordered the burger and was shocked the thing was the size of my hand. Ordered the corn bread as well. Vegan beignet was crispy it’s not your traditional beignet but it was very good. The étouffée was different as well very coconut flavors I thought I was eating the real deal. def would recommend this spot would want to try the poboy and their famous gator bites.

I finally tried Souley Vegan for the first time. Ive been wanting to try it, but I just hated the thought of going to Jack London to get food.I was really sorely disappointed in the food. I really thought it was going to be good. I ordered the pesto Mac, Jambolaya, dirty Cajun fries, gator bites, creole popens, and the regular Mac. There was this moderate coconut flavor in the white sauce/cheese of the fries that just did not complement well. The fries were seasoned nicely, but it lacked cheese flavor and the coconut flavor was too overwhelming. I like coconut, but that was not good. The jambolaya reminded me of Spanish rice. It tasted like Spanish rice and not what I had imagine jambolaya would be. And for the price, the portion seemed small. The popens were nice and crispy on the outside, but the stuffing was not the cheese. I dont know what it is, but it was gritty and not smooth and did not taste like cheese. The gator bites were okay, but the inside was this soft glutinous deal. The flavor was good, but the texture was unappetizing. Neither of the macs had any flavor. They were both underwhelming.I couldnt eat much of any of dishes. I took two bites of each item and I was feeling sick. Not because the food was toxic, but because of the flavor and the texture. I think that coconut flavor was the reason. I felt nauseated. I guess, Ill stick with Vegan Mob next time.I dont think Id try this place again.I wish I could get a refund because Im throwing it all in the garbage. I cant eat it. Its not good. Its depressing. Im so disappointed I might cry.

My daughter has been a Vegan for 5 years and this is one of her favorite spots now!!! It was my first time and I really enjoyed everything!!! The food was amazing and so was the help!! I had the Seitan chicken and waffles and my daughter had the Seitan steak and mash potatoes and gravy!! Yummy!!! I really liked the atmosphere there. It had a 70s vibe to it!!!HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

I wanted to give this place five stars so bad! The food was so fantastic with so many great vegan options! The person that took our order was not friendly, however and the bathroom was trashed. The bartender that made the mimosas was totally rad though. Would definitely go back for the food despite the few shortcomings.

I’m always up for a vegan spot when dining out. I meant to go to another one that had their grand opening, but got the two mixed up. The location is pretty good considering it’s not far from SF and is pretty much smack dab in the center of Oakland. Parking can be a challenge as it is limited and they are all metered (so make sure you have change). We went inside and the line was long, but moved fairly fast. This place reminds me of Veggie Grill in LA. You order and pay first, then self seat with your number so the server can find you. On to the food. Once you order, there is a slight wait before you receive your food. I ordered the nachos and added the jalapeños (I believe it’s $1 or $1.50 extra for this). They were pretty ok. It’s chips, lettuce, onions, cheese and seitan crumbles. I asked that they omit the tomatoes, which also comes with it. If you want sour cream, that’s an extra charge. Portion is pretty big and I couldn’t finish it all. My husband had the country fried steak meal. Now THAT was VERY, VERY good!! It was flavorful and so were the mashed potatoes and greens. I liked his dish more than the nachos (and I am an extreme nacho fan!). My husband isn’t vegan, but he loved the food and said, “This is pretty good to be fake.” Lol. The homemade juice was $4.00 (the bottle resembles the mango smoothie at Trader Joe’s which is $2.50 or so). We also tried the vanilla cake ($5.00 a piece) and it was meh. Didn’t do anything for my tastebuds. All in all, I spent $40 for everything. If you use a card to pay, the screen asks you if you want to leave a tip and the cashier watches you to see if you leave one or not. This was an okay experience. I may come back and try other items.

I routed us here purely based off the amazing reviews and I am so, so happy that I did! The line was almost out the door at dinner time but I can totally see why after how amazing the food was. Hands down the best vegan soul food I’ve ever had. The flavor of every dish we got was amazing. The customer service was friendly and attentive. The place definitely lives up to its high ratings. This was our first time here.The locale:Downtown Oakland. However, there was quite a bit of foot traffic from local residents. It appears that the are is being gentrified.The restaurant:Cozy and quaint. We had no problem with seating on a Saturday afternoon at 1:30pm. However, just after we arrived, more patrons showed up and all available seating was full. Tip: Take a look at the menu online prior to arriving because you will have to make your selection and pay prior to being seated. This can make for a longer wait in line if you come during the busy hours.The food:The food was just ok. We ordered the sampler platter with the add on portions. It was $30, but my hubby and I split it. My young adult sons orders the shrimp po boys. They devoured theirs and said it was better than they thought it would be.As for the sampler platter, hubby and I have mixed reviews; however, we agree on the outcome of the same items: the greens were tart (too much vinegar), the red beans and rice, lentils and black-eyed peas were very bland (there were no seasonings on the table, only hot sauce and ketchup). The Mac n Cheese, yams and potatoes were decent but not enough so that I would return. The potato salad and fried okra were good. With this as the outcome, this would be a one-time stop for the family.

Great vegan food is something we always look for during our travels! Oh my goodness you have to try a little bit of everything. As you can see in the pictures that is what we did! Disclaimer, I am not vegan or vegetarian. However, I am southern and know a good soul food bite when it crosses my soup coolers(lips). I picked this spot for lunch with a vegetarian friend that lives in Oakland. Since it was a first time for us both we went with the sampler plate and the monster salad. Each dish on the sampler was flavorful, but as a carnivore I simply can not get past the spongy texture of tofu. My least favorite was the barbeque tofu because I also didnt care for the sauce. The collards, black eye peas, and potato salad were on point! Would I drive 45min. again for this bite? Only for good company or a nearby event. Overall, I enjoyed the flavors and I am thankful for the healthy food option for whenever I am in the area👍✊

I am not vegan, but my roomate is and he brought me out to this spot. We got the sampler platter which had a good amount of food that fed both of us well (we can both eat a lot of food). Along with the fries as an appetizer and a couple cakes to go. Honestly, all the food was great, I could hardly tell it was vegan. Albeit most of the food was vegan regardless and not necessarily actual substitutes. Red beans and rice, collard greens, tofu, sweet potatoes and more. It was still all very good.The hostess was friendly and we were served promptly. The way the restaurant is set up is a bit weird, but it works well. You first go in, sit anywhere you want and then go up to order and pay. Then they will bring you the food, not quite like a traditional restaurant. There is water and some peanuts that you can grab to have while you wait. Also they play great music here, a lot of old school funk. Was great.

The food was DELICIOUS. Highly highly recommend the seitan and waffles and the southern staples bowl, and the cornbread! It’s been a week and I’m still thinking about this food. However this place is really busy and understaffed, and the customer service is awful. We (and everyone around us) had to wait 30 minutes just to get water and 75 minutes for our food to be ready. We did come on a Saturday but on the earlier side, 5/5:30pm. I would avoid coming here on the weekend unless you don’t mind waiting.

Fantastic! Fresh, crispy, also tender truly Southern style (my family is from the South) fried tofu mini bites, with excellent sauce. Gator bites were a different, also fabulous batter with a juicy bite and delectably crunchy outside.(The gator bite sauce didnt work for me, but Im guessing thats because I wasnt acquainted with the authentic flavor. So I used my other dipping sauces and was very happy!) My spouse has th chicken poboy. Absolutely delicious; better than a couple weve tried in LA.

Really outstanding! We had the sampler platter, the crab cakes, and the calamari made with hearts of palm. Everything was crazy good - really! The BBQ and fried tofu were probably my favorite. The sweet potato was SO good, as was the cornbread, and the fried okra...where do I stop?! Definitely recommend giving this place a try, even if youre not vegan!

Probably the worst vegan food i’ve ever had in my entire life. Burgers and chips were so salty when salad has no taste. 🥴It was Saturday lunch time but there was no one at the counter. Everything (waiting for someone to take our order and serving the food) took a long time which i normally don’t mind. When i had to ask for cutlery, after only food was served and it also took ages.I am seriously disappointed in both side (food & customer service). Absolutely outstanding food and experience. 100% vegan Louisiana creole flavor soul food. Amazing comfort food options and a huge menu. They have amazing deserts like cakes and beignets, appetizers like vegan calamari and nachos, and dinner/ lunch options with huge plates of southern goodness. I got the country fried seitan plate with mashed potatoes and collard Greens. And let me tell you! It was incredible. I am from the south and have not always been vegan. I know good food! I have been to Louisiana and souley vegan is definitely the best I have tried. I also got the vegan calamari made from the hearts of palms and it was the real deal. (9/2/18 visit) Best vegan restaurant I have been to thus far and i have been to about 10. I got the sweet potato waffle, vegan sausage, tofu scramble and mango mimosa. There was not one item that wasnt absolutely delicious. I couldnt taste the sweet potato in the waffle, but the didnt affect its great taste. The vegan sausage was similar to a flour fried vegetable patty. It was flavorful. The tofu scramble tasted like eggs, but not as heavy. The spinach, onions, and bell peppers in the scramble complemented the tofu well. The mango mimosa was packed with a fresh authentic mango flavor. Not like a fake concentrate. Customer service was great and venue is nice as well. Definitely check them out if youre in the Oakland area.

Pros: Kind staff, cleanliness, nostalgic R&B and hip-hop music.The Food: Some dishes were good to eat, others pretty bland, and unimpressive. Fried okra and the sauce was tasty. Combo platter with black eye beans, collard greens and potato salad was meh - greens and beans were room temp not warm, a little too much pepper to compensate for lack of flavor. We won’t be coming back here for a while if ever.Take out only.Pros:Chicken and waffle. 5 stars and I’m not vegetarian nor vegan. The taste, texture, and look was more like a fried pork chop than a piece of chicken, but it tastes amazing. No complaints.Red beans and rice. 5 stars. Quite flavorful.Cornbread. 5 stars. Real cornbread. A lot of restaurants use the Jiffy-brand mix or some variation thereof. This is like cornbread that my grandma and aunt used to make.Sweet potato pie. 5 stars, but the size is laughable. (See attached pic for size reference. Notice the standard-size fork.) Three bites and that’s it! Someone commented that you can get a bigger personalized size at Nations, which is close by.Strawberry Ginger drink. 5 stars. The perfect blend of sweet and bite/kick. This is really, really good and it’s made in house.To improve:Messy - the syrup leaked through the container and bag and spilled on my leg on my way home. I had to put my food in a Trader Joe’s shopping bag. This was easily solved, but maybe try a better condiment container.Online ordering only, with a $3 service fee. While I was waiting for my order, someone’s phone died and they couldn’t order. The person at the window only then assisted with ordering. It’s audacious to limit the ordering to online orders and also charge a fee. It’s like telling customers that they can only park in the business parking lot and then charge them for parking in the lot. Because of this, I most likely will limit my ordering here and try other restaurants. It’s the principle. The food was so good that I won’t take a star off for this major annoyance, but where is this $3 going? Granted it’s not a lot of money, but it’s irritating.Also, I did not get a confirmation text (with pick up time) as instructed, so I went to the window to make sure my order was placed. Also, this happened to another customer behind me. This adds insult to injury, so on top of the $3 fee, the system doesn’t even work like it’s supposed to. 🤷🏾‍♀️

Since I ordered the garlic fries for the three of us to share, I was able to bring some food home and have it for lunch. I loved every bite.My son ordered the chicken fried steak and loved it. Or course I had a bite of that with the creamy mashed potatoes that came alongside it. Delicious. My daughter in law had the Proud Mary burger, which she loved. She shared some of the crispy fried tofu that was part of it. Delicious, as was the bbq sauce that was on it.The woman (I believe she is the owner) who took our orders was friendly and kind. New cashier (took an extremely long time to order and his lack of training was overwhelmingly apparent), person in charge (she was obviously frustrated and her leader skills were non existent), food was not good and left more then half as we just walked out. We read reviews before visiting. I decided to try the Southern Staples Bowl. Grits were excellent, the toppings were way too salty and I was disappointed because someone else wrote a review regarding this and they responded saying they would correct this. It would have been an excellent dish if I could actually taste it instead of the salt.My boyfriend ordered greens (too vinegary), the black eyed peas were good, the red beans and rice were very good and corn bread excellent! We will go back to try again and hope grits dish is better as I love grits!

Good, but I’m from NC and Fiction Kitchen in Raleigh has better fried chicken. I liked the waffle though. My wife thought that her sandwich should come with fries and that a pile of lettuce with dressing is not a salad. Best lemonade and kombucha around though. I think that the prices are high, but are probably typical for this area. Next time I’m trying the Mac and cheese. I came here to patronize vegan restaurants as there aren’t many where I’m from. I’d go here for a dive bar atmosphere with soul music. I liked that one of their TVs had a nature documentary on it.

I review vegan restaurants and how they market their food and if I approve I promote their business to my thousands of followers. I also let people know when they are false advertising. I went to Souley Vegan because I had some people saying “ your vegan you should try this place” while others said, “ they have fallen off and stopped cooking “REAL food with real ingredients. In this case I had to try for myself. I went there and first I was turned off by the fact that they collect your money first by making you stand in line like a to go person before they seat you. It’s very bad way to start a dining experience. Second my food came out cold as if they already had batches sitting on a line for hours . I sent it back and it came out more cold the second time. They advertised sizzling hot Mac and cheese but then don’t use actual macaroni noodles which is very misleading and Is bad marketing . My macaroni and cheese came out cold, and disgusting . They didn’t use macaroni, instead it was this fat overcooked rigatoni noodle for pasta that was so over boiled that it broke apart into mush and was covered in a artificial cheese sauce. It has not been freshly baked in an oven and there were not any sign of real cheeses used, as soul food originally uses multiple authentic fresh cheeses. I sent it back then paid an extra $15 to try the pesto Mac and it was even worse. Overcooked. Enlarged pasta that was covered in a green sauce that looked like vomit. I was so disgusted. The fried tofu tasted like it came prepacked from a freezer and was so large and big it looked unappetizing . The black eyed peas and the collard greens were full of salt and they added tomatoes sauce. I was so confused, and so turned off by the lack of quality and culinary skills that this restaurant fell to. I am not only a 10 year dietary vegan I am a gourmet chef in my own kitchen. It was deplorable and should never be served or called soul food . This was unhealthy, hard to digest and my digestive system was hurting after the third bite that I had to leave everything on the table. The owner charged me $43.00 and never offered me any service to rectify this. They do not understand what vegan cuisine is about . They are just profiting from celebrity approvals and the green market with marketing as if they can deliver high quality food and they cannot . I took photos and you will see how poor quality the food is. I would never go back there and if your looking for authentic vegan soul food this place is worse than KFC and they use all artificial ingredients and a fast prepackage deep fry system to stage themselves as a real soul food restaurant when they are fast food with deplorable presentation . Real vegans please don’t go there !!!! Overpriced and food looks like it’s already been chewed and thrown up. Look at these photos, absolutely disgusting . The owner needs to answer to why the food quality is so deplorable and whether she cares about real vegans and their dietary needs ? This used to be my favorite restaurant, but the last four or five times Ive ordered, the food has been underwhelming; Not very flavorful, the main flavor just seemed to be salt, and just all around not anything to write home about anymore. The house made burger patty was tough twice like it had been microwaved too long, which is weird. I could not even chew it. They were out of the hearty croquettes (zucchini) and they tried to call and let me know while I was driving there but since I was driving and didnt answer, they let me know when I arrived. I did not go to Soley Vegan until a trip back after Id moved out of the Bay and I am now castigating myself for my oversight. I ordered food to go and it was ready, warm, and delicious. We only visited Souley Vegan 1 time. We made a stop in San Francisco while in the area on unrelated buisness. This was during Covid, so restaurants that normally had/have indoor dining were unable to offer it; Souley Vegan was in that category, so we ordered our food to go.While in SF, we decided to visit Oakland and planned to try a different vegan restaurant; which turned out to no longer be opened. Did a GoogleMaps search and found Souley Vegan.When we got to the restaurant they asked if we had ordered online, but I explained that we were visitors from out of town and had not ordered online. The staff kindly took our orders, the food was prepared and was delicious. This visit was over a year ago, and I dont remember everything we ordered, but it really was good. I know I tried some greens, that were amazing. My son (& myself), really enjoyed the mac & cheese (all food is 100% vegan). If/when we are in that part of California again, I would go back.The prices are a little more, but that is almost expected from vegan restaurants as certain menu items & ingredients cost more, also whole, fresh foods sometimes tend to cost more to purchase; understanding businesses- specifically restaurants are also the owners income.

The food was very good, but the overall experience was a train wreck. this is one of those restaurants where the regulars are okay with deplorable service because of the novelty have the food.When I arrived there was a long line. But after waiting for 34 minutes, the line had not yet moved one person. finally, someone came outside and said there would be a 25 to 35 minute wait for food because they are backed up. They give priority to the to go orders, but the customers who parked in Jack London square and walks 4 blocks to eat in the restaurant had to wait.The price is reasonable, the quantities are large, and the food is quite tasty. but, unless you have absolutely nothing to do on a Saturday night, Im not sure the wait is worth the reward.Quick final comment. They only had two beverage choices. One, the one I got, was lemonade infused with cayenne pepper. The other was unsweetened green tea.I recommend this restaurant close the dining room and the only process to go orders.

Ive heard great things about this place. My brother has been here twice and the food was really good. This time though, the food was not. I wouldnt say terrible but it felt like they just threw the food on the plate and didnt care for taste or presentation. Too much tomatoes in everything! I brought a party here and everyone was thoroughly impressed by the complex flavors all of the dishes had, and the excellent way they fried the appetizers. I loved the hearts of palm based calamari and the jambalaya the most.

I was SUPER EXCITED to visit Souley Vegan after hearing such great things about it. The location is pretty great, easy to get to with any form of transportation. When you walk in, you have to order at the host stand and then choose a seat. I was unaware of this, and there was no line, so I ended up sitting at the bar for almost ten minutes before the staff let me know.The prices were much higher than I expected, but it is rare for me to be able to eat at a vegan soul food restaurant, so I went ahead and ordered. I got chicken & waffles, mac&cheese, avocado slices, and a beer. The beer came after I had already begun eating, as there was no one actually watching the bar. I was happy with all of my food except the mac&cheese which was slightly dry and the noodles were way too overcooked. As an experienced line cook, I would have been embarrassed to serve those noodles!I do plan to return sometime and see if my experience is different, but until then (since there is no half-star option) three stars is the highest I feel this restaurant deserves.

Amazing delicious Sunday brunch! Tasty tasty for vegans vegetarians and everybody. Very reasonably priced for brunch choices. Serves bottomless mimosas. Actually served a nice glass of very good champagne with a splash of pomegranate..or your choice of other. Off menu choices available. A great place to introduce your non veggie friends to this healthy way of eating. Crowded on Sundays. Worth the wait. Yummy

Good prices and lots of options. Definitely have to try everything! I had the crab cakes and black bean fritters. Both were delicious and came out fast. They also had very good portions. Burgers looked and smelled incredible!

I was really skeptical walking into this, do you understand the pressure that these people are under you just cant build a restaurant in Oakland CA saying,Vegan BBQ and survive. Even the best BBQ place in the know universeFlints,what you heard me I said it got 87. So I give this idea a 5 just having the Balls,and the food is A1. Ask for extra napkins. Also this isnt that kind of BBQ you dont finish and throw away from what Ive seen is the customers have no problem asking for some doggy bags.

Delicious soul food! Friendly atmosphere. The cornbread was yummy and the collards are from Heaven. I have had the ribs and they were to die for.If you like spicy food, try the cayenne lemonade.Parking is not too bad on 3rd Street.

Rosie and the rest of the staff make this a really fun place to eat!! Love the fried Tofu and Cornbread most! Not such a huge fan of the collard greens, though. The BBQ/Fried Tofu burger is amazing!! Love the home made fruit juices as well. Big thumbs up!!
