When it comes to breakfast in Los Gatos, Southern Kitchen is my top choice without a doubt. Ive been a loyal patron for many years, and I can honestly say Ive never been disappointed. Amazing brunch in Los Gatos at the Southern Kitchen. You know the food is good when you can end up in line for over 45 minutes.The variety and quality on the menu is incredible. And the food is delicious.The service was very friendly and helpful.And we were out on the patio on the sidewalk. It was lovely though a bit cramped with lots of traffic. I personally didnt like any of the food, I ordered the Mexican steak breakfast and I had more Is gristle and fat then meat and the potatoes was not cooked well not all the potatoes some was done it was good but Ill say my grandbabies like the pancakes. Let me apologize for my mistake, it was not I repeat it was not the Southern kitchen in Los Gatos it was a restaurant in San Jose with a similar name so again I apologize to the owner of Southern kitchen in Los Gatos.

Friendly staff, great atmosphere, and great menu to choose from. We came around lunch time and decided to try the brunch menu. We tried the roasted beet and goat cheese salad, a fresh biscuit and the chicken fried waffle. The chicken fried waffle is a twist on chicken and waffles and definitely not something you could whip up at home. It was unique and flavorful. I would recommend splitting this dish with some other people as it can be a lot of fried dough and sugar for one person. Everything that came out looked delicious. We will definitely be back and try the benedict and a scramble.

This iconic Los Gatos coffee shop has been serving classic American fare for nearly 30 years. Now owned by a former employee, the food seems as good — if not better — than ever.The extensive breakfast menu has all the classics (eggs, omelettes, French toast, pancakes, etc.) plus several Southern style specialty items (chicken fried waffles, shrimp and grits). Ditto for lunch, which includes everything from sandwiches and burgers to salads and fried chicken. They also serve weekend brunch but they’re not open for dinner.I met three friends for breakfast and we were lucky enough to grab one of the few outdoor tables for four. Unfortunately, it was on the narrow sidewalk instead of the new “parklet” out front so it felt a bit cramped, especially when people were walking by or gathering at the door.My Belgian waffle was cooked just right. When topped with a generous cup of fresh strawberries, blueberries, and pineapple (included) and a bit of syrup, it tasted great. I wish I’d told them to make my side order of bacon extra crispy, because it seemed a bit undercooked. My friends ordered a mushroom omelette with hash browns and toast, traditional Mexican Huevos Rancheros, and a taco salad (from the lunch menu), and everyone said that they enjoyed their meals.Service was friendly but responsiveness was average at best. The bill for four came to just over $100 including tax, tip, and a 3% credit card surcharge. With the exception of the limp bacon (ten bucks for four slices!) I think that our meals were a good value for the quantity and quality of food.

If you want a real Southern breakfast experience, with great service, then this is the place to go! Its not huge so it can get busy at weekends, prepare to queue. But its worth it! The menu is massive, with everything you could think of ordering, plus lots of unusual dishes (check out the fried chicken waffles). The portion size is huge, and the food was delicious. Add unlimited coffee top ups, fresh juice, mimosas, and hot sauces, and you have one fab cafe.

This cute little place situated in a corner of a building in downtown Los Gatos has some mouth watering breakfast and lunch menu. On a Sunday afternoon, the wait was quite long but was well worth the tasty and delicious signature shrimp & grits and the Santa Fe Scramble we ordered with the outdoor seating. The corn bread was very tasty!. The ice tea was a good accompaniment. Our waitress Debbie fondly addressed by the kitchen staff as “Mama”, was very friendly and took care of us well. Highly recommended.

Came here on a whim to try their brunch. There was a bit of a wait, about 30-35 min but we were finally seated inside, since it was kinda hot outside. I ordered the chocolate chip pancakes, the fiancé ordered the fried chicken waffles (theres fried chicken in the batter I believe) and then they deep fried it, and the little guy got a Belgian waffle w/fruit and side of bacon. The food was very good. Probably one of the better brunches Ive been to in a while. Drinks were just ok, I didnt really like my margarita but the fiancé enjoyed her mimosa. Service was good also. We will be back to try other options.

We had fried chicken and waffles. Surely an iconic Southern dish. The breading on the chicken was not crispy. Id describe it as heavy. Hard, even. The chicken was not properly reheated - it was certainly not freshly fried - since some parts of the interior were cool / barely warm. The waffle wasnt much better. I expected fresh out of the waffle iron/ toaster with crispy edges. Sure, with bits of gravy, syrup, and butter on it its not going to be crispy on all the raised edges, but surely the outer edges where nothing remotely liquid got near? Nope.The fried green tomatoes were freshly made. Hot.

Please remember this is just my opinion of my experience while a visit this place. The wait time was great. Even though they were busy, we were able to sit within 15 minutes. Their service is great and they do a great job asking if you need anything. The menu has a great variety of things to chose from. They have healthy options as well. I would recommend this place to anyone who wants to experience what the locals eat on a weekend. As for me I hope I will see you around.

We couldnt dine for breakfast or lunch. We were told we only had 45mins to eat because they had a big party this was at 12noon. Who likes being rushed to eat? We were willing to wait!When we walk by your place an hour later it was almost empty at 1pm. The head lady made us feel very uncomfortable and unwelcome! Will not be referring anyone there! Ive never experienced or expected that kind of behavior. Very unprofessional!

We went in on a rainy Saturday and got in right away as a party of two. The place had a charming, bustling atmosphere and we were frequently checked on for coffee and drink refills. The food came out quickly but they didnt taste rushed at all: the Belgian waffle was to die for, the eggs were so soft and the biscuit/gravy is worth coming back here. Weve heard alot about this place, so we had to finally check it out. Straight to the point: food was excellent. Hearty and generous. I had the country scramble and the Mrs. had pigs in a blanket. They did not disappoint. We didnt wait long since we sat at the counter. Its not huge, so i can see why the wait could be long. 5th star was because they had Pepper Plant. It must be noted that a man sitting next to us sat down and got his food in like 3 minutes. Not sure if he ordered ahead or if hes a regular, but Ive never seen service like that. Warning - parking is at a premium in this part of town. Had to park way TF. Worth the walk.

This place was soooo good! We were driving back to Santa Cruz from Napa early this morning as we wanted to beat traffic, and around Los Gatos started getting hungry. Southern Kitchen is one of the only places that’s not a coffee house open at 8:15 on a Thursday and was the perfect place for a good breakfast. It was quick, it was delicious, and it was very reasonably priced. As we sat down our coffee was poured for us, and we quickly got some fresh squeezed orange juice which was absolutely delicious. We both ordered from the daily specials, the egg white omelette with sundries tomatoes and spinach was awesome but the real winning was their crab Benedict special. Holy wow was it good. I’m not really a breakfast person and I would eat this every single day! Perfect amount of food, great staff and atmosphere. I will 100% be back.

Too bad another restaurant gone down hill. If they could have sliced 3 slices of a Roma tomato any thinner for a BLT you would have not even known they were there...had to ask for some tomatoes.... Hash browns were way over cooked ( thought this was a breakfast restaurant) and the amount of ehollandaise sauce on the $18.00 eggs Benedict barely covered the eggs. Absolutely fantastic. Fresh, delicious food and incredible service from Leo. We had the homemade beef hash, so flavorful and the kids fought over it down to the last bites. The kids French toast and bunny pancake was also great. Chorizo Benedict was the perfect blend of spicy, smoky and crispy. Oh and full espresso bar with high quality coffee which is rare at breakfast restaurants. This is our new favorite breakfast spot!

Great service, excellent food, cozy atmosphere. Growing up I would have called Southern Kitchen a coffee shop. Nowadays that term confuses anyone under 40 so I might call it a diner. Whatever you call it, Southern Kitchen is a gem. And they do have excellent coffee. Recently that coffee was $3.35 for a bottomless cup. On that visit I had the chorizo benedict -- delicious, though pricey at $19.52.Even more recently (late March 2023) I enjoyed the outstanding Corned Beef Benedict ($20), and still that fine coffee.Parking can be a challenge.

The food came out in a reasonable amount of time and the restaurant was cozy to sit in.The food was our biggest concern. Again, it was okay but we paid too much for what we got. My husband had chicken and waffles and the flavor was there but he got one waffle and 2 small drumsticks. The chicken looked almost out of place on the big waffle. It would have been nice to get a side with the chicken and waffles. Maybe a fruit cup or grits.I got a feature dish which was good but left me wanting more. The potatoes were roasted with peppers and onion which was a nice touch but they seemed slightly undercooked. Some pieces were harder than others.Overall, we will probably go back at some point but it will not be a place we frequent regularly.

Southern Kitchen has consistency beyond measure. We’ve been going here for brunch for 2 years and we have never been let down. From the quality of the food to the efficient and friendly service, this place will get our business time and time again. Location is excellent, especially for entertaining guests. The only downside is that it isn’t 3 times the size! There is plenty of seating and despite the sometimes long weekend brunch lines, we never seem to wait a painful amount of time - a least an amount that doesn’t always prove to be worth it! We’ve even waited in the pouring rain for a table and it was well worth it. Favorites include pigs in a blanket, the country fried steak and cheddar grits. During the pandemic, they were some of the first we saw who implanted an efficient and safe way of getting carry out food to people that was matched in quality of dining in like were used to. Love this place!

I have been coming here for a couple years now and loved the blueberry pancakes. The last couple of times Ive eaten breakfast here, though, Ive noticed a decline in food quality and service. This last time was bad enough for me to write a review and never come back. I found a piece of unidentified meat (and chocolate chips) cooked into my blueberry pancakes.I noticed something was off in the pancakes, but I assumed I was imagining it. First it was tasting chocolate chips and then I spit out a bite that tasted intensely of curry powder. I found a piece of yellow/orange meat cooked into the pancake. I called over the waitress and she explained that all of the food is cooked on the same griddle. She offered to bring me out fresh pancakes, but I declined because I felt queasy from a mouth full of unidentified meat. They still charged me full price - $20 = $17 for the pancake sandwich & $3 upcharge for blueberries in the pancakes.I am beyond grossed out. The response was not reassuring that this wont happen again or to other customers. I still dont know what the meat was and still cant get the taste out of my mouth. I truly hope the meat was fully cooked and that I dont get sick.

Wife ordered blueberry & banana pancakes - good but she likes the fluffy kind and was disappointed. 3 pancakes but not the fluffy way she likes. Tasted good though. I had house corned beef hash I thought it was quite good, hot, tasty. Could have used more of the beef, but Im not complaining.We also ordered hot chocolate and coffee mixed - oh yeah its called mocha. We sat at a table in a corner, there was a mop leaning against the wall upside down releasing bacteria into the air I was breathing. (The chair was also extremely damaged and had a hole in the center and I was sinking in) after waiting over 30 minutes for our food to arrive we realized that we made the mistake of ordering they’re tuna melt. We expected an establishment so well known to have a well made sandwich. But to our surprise there seemed to be more mayo in the sandwich than tuna. So basically it was just Tuna overloaded with mayo and a little bit of cheese. If I ever do decide to come back I will be sure not to order they’re tuna melt. Oh and they’re fries were under cooked

Ate there on Labor Day and it was a huge disappointment. Was told we were up next and would be seated soon numerous times. My group waited about an hour outside before being seated. I understand they were busy but if the staff is overwhelmed they should have turned customers away or been honest about a very long wait. Then my party of 5 waited another hour after being seated to get our food which we ate in 20 minutes. The food was was decent. To apologize the waitress gave us free coffee and waters, however not sure if that will bring us back knowing there are many other places nearby with better service. It probably wasn’t the best idea to get a late breakfast on Labor Day, but we would’ve liked the transparency that the wait was going to be ridiculous and we would’ve left. The servers are very nice and hardworking so I’m hoping this won’t become the norm at Southern Kitchen.

Under new management, I was hoping it wouldnt be too far off from the comfort food I was used to. Service was friendly although not very attentive. Our waitress dropped our food on the table and ran off, being incredibly busy, I understand, but our food was cold upon serving. We were offered new plates when I was able to let her know, but it took long enough to get our food in the first place. Being given a $10 discount for cold food was just as meaningful as the mindfulness of getting to know your customer. Slightly disappointed, but willing to give it another chance.

I didn’t notice the moldy spots until I had taken some bites of it . First time visiting after the ownership change and what a dismal experience. Although the place wasn’t busy (open tables), the service was scarce. Apparently, there are now two dishes with almost identical names:chicken waffle and waffle with chicken…I say quite we were confused when the chicken waffle arrived, and the chicken wasn’t visible…Trying to confirm with the staff where the chicken was, apparently the chicken was in the sugar drench waffle..not sprinkled with sugar, it looked like the someone knocked the sugar dispenser on it! The dish remained untouched past the first bite. Twice, the passing staff (two different ones) had casually asked if everything was ok but never stopped to hear the answer or to replenish the water once in a while. The wait for the check was over 10 min, would probably be more if I didn’t step inside to ask for it, which apparently didn’t go well with the staff. If the staff isn’t interested in waiting for an answer or caring to inquire why someone doesn’t eat, or get defensive once someone asks for a check and has to go inside to ask for it, it would be better to just get it over with rather than issue insincere and condescending apology. It is sad to see that the place of frequent family outings no longer is such.

My recommendation is to pick something off the specials board (they’re always amazing), a biscuit and gravy side, and churro waffles.My go to is the Nova Scotia- a salmon Benedict. One of the two best breakfasts in Los Gatos, the other being the Los Gatos Cafe. This homey little place is often packed on the weekends, and with good reason. Weve been regulars for many years, in particular because this is one place you can get an excellent buckwheat waffle (not on the menu). The food, in general, is good and flavorful, except that its biscuit is a bit dry and hard to eat (you will need to drink a lot of water).However, its bad seating service and fly issue concerned us a lot. During the time we were there eating, there were at least 3 flies hovering around people and foods near our seating area. When we walked out of the restaurant, there was a guy eating in outside seat. We saw at least a handful of flies hovering around him and his food. This is a serious hygiene issue!We had waited there for almost an hour. When the seating lady called another party before us and did not hear the response, she called us and crossed our name out on the waiting list. However, the previous party responded later and the lady had to seat them first. A while later the lady forgot us and tried to seat another party after us. So we contested. She had to seat us. She led us to a corner table which can seat 2 people comfortably, but not 3. We later reached out to her and asked if we can move to one of the 2 tables just opened up. She insisted that we cant move after sitting down even nothing was ordered and served then. So we had to squeeze ourselves in the crowded corner seat. We did not see any reason to prevent from moving us, but her being lazy and rude. This is really a bad seating service!The 2 issues will stop us from coming to this restaurant in the future.

Food here is fantastic, and I will definitely come back for the food, so no complaints there. I take issue to the disrespectful service I received recently. A few weekends ago I showed up with my family (party of 4) to get a nice sunday brunch, and this is during covid, so there was outdoor seating. We were told we needed to wait 15-20 minutes, not a big deal. One of their male teenage or college age servers with a black baseball cap on snidely remarks at us Please get out of the sidewalk... and then two seconds later another guest who was already seated said Ugh I know right?? to which he replies I swear Ive told them like 8 times already to move! and then he storms off. My whole family heard this and we all were ticked off immediately. This is right after we had arrived, and the first notice that we had that we were in the wrong area. Yes, this is our bad you can kindly ask us to step elsewhere if that is an issue. but sorry this kind of disrespect is pretty uncalled for. There was no place to stand, and we were doing our best to distance ourselves. I didnt take issue against our server who was a kind older woman, but this teenage kid seriously has some attitude issues. You dont just say that in front of customers, let alone expect us to not remember comments like that. I hate to say this, but we were a group of asians, and I cant tell if there is some underlying resentment going on here. Needless to say Im not tipping that boy if he ever serves us, and I normally make it a priority to tip well. Keep those comments to yourself, and dont lash out at customers. Everyone also has bad days at work, and I can sympathize, but there isnt a reason to lash out at people who had nothing to do with it.

It was a horrible experience we were the only minority in there and they kept bringing food to other people that were walking in ordering their food they are getting fast service we sat there for like 45 minutes to an hour we asked how much longer would it be they said they didnt know we asked to get moved from table because there was a big glare on a mirror they couldnt move us to a different table although there was tables available

I love coming here with my boyfriend. I’m an Okie who’s also lived in Texas and Mississippi and every time I’ve finished my meal I feel like I could walk outside and be in any of those states. It’s really authentic, good southern food.
