Complete wastage of money . Use to be good . Drove one hour just for a dosa . Very disappointed. Sambar was like yellow dall with little tangy taste . Customer service rude . Dosa was third class

Lots of variety of dosas to order from. Size of dosa was huge. All that we ordered were good. Chutneys were ok. Medu vada was crispy snd flavorful. Wouldnt recommed their cut mirchi. It was lacking salt and there was too much color. Ended the meal with a hot cup of strong filter coffee. Overall a decent place for South indian food in East bay!!

Not too great of South Indian food in bay area, but can be visited. Thali is awesome but Dosa need to be worked out. Staff is polite but not professional. Dinner ware need improvement a lot. New management but no improvement yet.

Worse food in the Bay Area. Poor quality and no flavor. We tried buffet and each item was cold. Customer Service did not exit. Had to ask for silverware, water, even napkin was not provided. The only time they paid any attention was when it was time for us to pay. $25 for vegetarian buffet for one. Worse $50 I have ever spent. Would like to give over all -5 star.

I always hesitate coming here. I had to go when I had no choice and I wasnt surprised with the quality.. The ghee roast dosa had zero ghee, very subpar taste. I would say below average. I dont know of the management has changed, but its just going from bad to worse now. It shows, because we hardly see any crowd here though its in the same complex as the famous India bazaar. Please find elsewhere to go. They seriously need to up their game.

Food taste is mediocre at best. Buffett items doesn’t get replenished for a long time so most of the time you are looking at empty bowls. Def must try! We used to be regular customers at saravana bhavan in Fremont but this is def our new fav spot in Pleasanton. We always get:- Ghee roast- masala dosa- mysore masala dosa- pooriCustomer service is great and very accommodating! My 3 year old daughter loves coming here! Owners have done a great job and always on site.

Service left a bit to be desired (all dishes ordered were not delivered to the table, and dishes that werent ordered were delivered to the table). Very good traditional South Indian restaurant. Good atmosphere, good service and excellent food.Cheese dosa is so good, ended up ordering one more - thats a rare.Mysore Masala dosa, not too spicy, is very tasty and better than many other places.Madras Masala dosa is spicy and better than expected.Chilli paratha, while looked different and unexpected, tasted great.Masala chai and Kara dosa are OK, can be skipped.Chilli Bajni is just about spicy and removed me home.

I was surprised how good their meals were. I highly recommend if you know south Indian cuisine and particularly if you enjoy vegetarian dishes. The place was kept very clean with friendly staff to accommodate large guests. The interior design is a little dull and unoriginal. Plenty of parking, with a great Indian grocery store nearby. So two birds with one stone kinda of deal, if you ask me.

This place used to be my favorite South Indian vegetarian restaurant a few years ago. The quality has gone down the drain now! Would not come back. Food is very oily. How can you make lemon rice with that much of oil!! There was no flavor but only oil. I really felt nauseous after a few spoons. When we showed the oil to the staff, we were told that “that’s how lemon rice is made”! Wow! Thank God my traditional South Indian parents or grandparents were not there to listen to that! Chutneys are no more real chutneys that we eat with dosa or idlies. 1 mirchi is cut into 2 small pieces and made chili bajjis. Upma is raw and uncooked. Vada is not cooked in the center. We must learn from the chef here how to make dosa with only 1 tiny spoon of batter, but make it so very thin, paper roasted so that it looks fancy but will not do justice to what you pay for it!

I visited this place with my family and kids and overall I had a very decent experience. I was lucky to find a parking spot quickly and easily. The ambiance of this place was great and I was able to find a table within 30 seconds of entry to this place. I ordered Dosa, idli and medu wada and it came with a couple of very tasty chutney and sambhar. They were all very delicious. I also had a chance to enjoy the mango lassi and again it was fabulous. The service provided was very nice 👍.

The food is not good. The service misses the mark. They served food without giving cutlery. We asked for cutlery, they gave glass but no water. The dosas are thick, the korma is bad, poori is full of oil. The only thing which was okay to eat was their mint chutney and sambhar vada.

We chose to have dinner at Sri Venkatesh Bhavan on a Monday night. We had not visited this previously, and it was one of the few vegetarian places open after 9 pm. They let us eat even though they were about to reach closing time in the next half hour. This review is based on the feedback of my group and I.We had the Indian buffet and it was fresh, filling, healthy and varied. There were both southern and northern Indian options in the menu: pongal, medu vada, utappam, curd rice, pooris, sambar-rasam, mixed pulav, phulka roti, rice, spiced buttermilk, many yummy vegetable dishes, lots of sweet-dish options- gulab jamun, falooda with sabza, ice cream options, salad spread and lot of assorted fruit, namkeen options, tea & coffee, chutney options and so on. There had been a lot more options on the menu when the dinner had just begun.Their tea was perfect in taste for those who like the traditional blend of milk and tea leaves. Their gulab jamuns and pink colored falooda with sabza seeds in it were simply delicious.This is a great place to have wonderful vegetarian food. I highly recommend it based on our experience.

We went to visit after the recent re-opening and we were extremely satisfied with our experience .The filter coffee is absolutely outstanding & is a must have ! Delicious dosais/idlies along with equally delicious chutneys that my picky 3 year old gobbled up in no time (which essentially speaks for how tasty the food is) . Staff are very friendly and patient with some excellent service. Definitely visiting this place more often !Update : we went today for lunch after a 6 month gap and shocked to see a change in management . Food was sub par, seems to have been changed to a buffet plus ala carte. We took the buffet which seems to have no particular pattern to it . Except for the pongal every other item tasted mediocre . The food didn’t sit well with both me and my husband which makes me doubt the quality of food being served there . i am definitely not going again, nothing justifies the $18.99 per person .

Had lunch here on more than 4 occasions, post Covid, When this restaurant was opened again after closure.Food - Average to Poor. Thalis are hopeless. Some of the traditional south indian dishes are very bad. The number of veg curies normally they serve also have reduced.Service - Very Bad. Not surprised, since very rare you can expect quality service in these kind of restaurant. The new staff have a arrogant and dont care attitude. There is no manager or host.All I can say is, this restaurant is run name sake and there is no interest or passion by those who are responsible. Very rarely to restaurants get better after reopening. This is not the case. The staff is efficient and communicative. The food was excellent. I really enjoyed the mysore masala dosa (masala was generous and flavorful) and the gobi 65. The sambar was yummy and spicy and the exact thickness I love. How can a south Indian cuisine restaurant screw up coconut chutney. Thats an assumption that youd nail it.Dosa taste was not great. The paper dosa was awful at best. The rava masala dosa was still a little decent. Out of three(coconut chutney: too much ginger and no salt, peanut chutney: no salt) chutney, tomato chutney: runny tomato puree). This used to be my go to place for South India Food since I landed in Teri Valley in 2018. Was sad when during the Covid they shut down and was hoping they reopen. Today when they have reopened, came here with excitement.I would have given them 5Stars in2018 - why 2 now? Well those are ONLY for excellent food and nothing else. They failed in the whole servicing. I think they never anticipated that their fan followers will flood the place and had only 2-3 servers for this huge place. Result - delays in taking order and serving, cold food, mistakes in serving....The food wont go long way and if they dont beef up their team, they are in for disaster. They have new relatively smaller but better servicing places in the area ...Already saw a family leaving without eating. Guys pull up your socks - gone are the days when people will say - its ok.

A vegetarian only restaurant, at a very accessible location in Pleasanton.Its quite well established eatery for vegetarian Indian food. We visited for the first time though.Setting was good, with a good number of tables.Overall hygiene and cleanliness was quite good and COVID associated controls were in place.Service was prompt, alert and knew their job well.Finally the food part: everything we ordered was quite well prepared, tasty and not overpowered by excessive use of spices or chilli. We came here with lot of excitement from the past. Was very disappointed with their customer service and quality. We paid for our food and waited for more than 40min, I went to the guy at the counter thrice reminding about my order, he said the dosa is getting delayed, and witnessed people came after us got their orders which is exactly the same item next to us. One guy from the kitchen came to the table and verified my orders after 30mins and never turned up. After 40min our order showed up but the thali was cold and dried. Never coming back again.

Wonderful to have them open again!!! My favorite South Indian restaurant in the Bay Area. Very nice, helpful staff. Clean, newly painted restaurant. Best sambar, dosa, vada, rasam, koottu and kurma curry. All those are still very authentic. Need to bring back the Bombay Thali and the Aviyal in the Thali. Dessert Kesari is the only off-key item I tasted. They forgot to roast the rava, add ghee and kesar & cardamom. I’ll keep going back and bring my friends.

The worst Indian food I have had in America. The masala in the masala dosa had no seasoning. The sambar was disgustingly bland and the chutneys were below average. The vada we ordered has no flavor and was already super soggy by the time it got to our table. The tea that we ordered tasted worse than rain water. Everything they used was recycled food. The sambar for the dosa was the same sambar in the vada. The masala in the dosa was the same as the one in curry side for the poori. Not one single item tasted good. How can a dosa cost 12 dollars? I would never even think of eating here again. Just cook these food at your home and it will taste better than here.

Came in here on a Saturday evening 2 weeks ago after I heard that this restaurant has reopened. This was my go to restaurant when I craved for some spicy flavorful Andhra food.We were 3 in the family and we ordered 2 thalis (15.99), 1 masala dosa (10.50) and a mango lassi (5.50). The prices were drastically higher.Well! now the food, the thali was pathetic and gross, the drumsticks served in one of the bowls was raw, the yogurt was sticky and seemed unformed, the eggplant was just a saute with minimal seasoning and no flavor, one of the bowls has a sour vegetable which was sour to the extent of being inedible, the dal was super thick and most of all the sweet vermicelli was watery and terribly sweet. Oh the dosa was like a papad, just super crispy to the point that it had no mass.This was nothing like the venkatesh bhavan we used to love. Seriously man!! I understand times are tough, you raised the prices, at least ensure you serve food with some level of quality.PLEASE avoid.

Used to love this restaurant before the pandemic, but was very disappointed with the dinner today. Once seated, placing the order was very difficult, as a bunch of employees are rushing past your table, but no one comes to take your order, till you call out. Then the wait for food began. The appetizer, Sambhar Vada arrived ok, but the uttapam and the Mysore masala dosa did not arrive at all. The uttapam finally arrived after 50 mins of being done with the vada. The dosa never showed up. We were very dissatisfied and left at that point. We asked 2 waiters and even spoke to the front desk guy. Unfortunately, there was no apology for the poor service or any attempt to make it right. The person at the desk just continued working at the register. As far as food is concerned, the sambhar was very bland, the vada and chutneys were ok. The uttapam was burnt and had a spoonful of veggies on it. Service and food quality were both very poor.

He had a sizzling dosa on my table in 5 minutes with all the necessary accouterments.....coconut chutney, sambar, a green spicy coconut chutney and one other that I had never tried before. Ladies and Gentlemen.......get ready for a treat! I will try to post a photo of the Dosa plate if Google allows.The Dosa was hot and huge and delish!!! The potato stuffing was tasty and flavorful. I waited for 55 minutes, my order nerver came and when asked the person who took orders whether the order was forgotten, the person got affended and very rudely replied that no cups for chutneys were available and asked me whether I want to eat or cancel my order in front of all customers. When I asked whether I can talk to the manager, he replied that I can very well file a complaint to the manager and name him as Arun. I went to the manager and explained what happened and how I got ill treated, the manager immediately said if I want some other item I can be served and just walked away. When the food was served ( this was not the original order even),I wanted to box the food as it was too embarrassing to eat in the place where I was ill treated. When I went to pay, the manager said that he is not charging me for the food as a concession for the mishap. I refused to take his offer and wanted to pay, but he kept insisting and I told him that a free food would not equate with how I was treated and left the food with the manager. I would never go to this place again. I will also make a case with consumer affairs.

This place employs racist people. We went in to eat food and when we said we wanted milder food the server started going downhill. He said the cook makes everything ‘South Indian’ so just order idli because all South Indian kids eat only idli only. What the hell was that? Have they even lived in the south? Tried this place and realised that the taste does not match that of Sarvana Bhavan.The service is also not so good. No one clears the dishes and the table gets cluttered. Maybe patrons visit this place as there is no other option in this category of food nearby and the price is lower than Sarvana Bhavan.If you like South Indian food I suggest you drive a bit more and got Sarvana Bhavan.

We gave catering order of Medhu vada, Onion Spinach Pakora, Cut Mirchi and Ven pongal recently. All the items are horrible except Onion spinach pakora. Chatni that he gave for Ven pongal is worst. We waited for 5 mins at entrance and nobody from staf acknowledge to ask how they can help us.Then we went to cashier desk, one of guy came and we requested him to get us a table to sit. These guys are great cheats. Last week they advertised that they are serving food with the banana leaf on behalf of Ugadhi festival. This is a south Indian style. They did not advertise anything about the price of the food. Once we were there they charged $18 (regular thali is $ 9.99) for a Thali which was very average one. if they advertise something for the festival we thought that they are serving for the same price with festival special but they doubled the price without advertising. I ended up paying $20 with tax for the below average meal. They charged $8 extra for banana leaf and vada. that was really festival for them not for the customers.
