Sugarfish is an excellent sushi restaurant known for its high-quality service and fresh fish. Absolutely 5 stars. We were a group of 9 and many of us did the omakase style lunches (Don’t think just eat) and loved it - favorite meal of the trip for almost all of us.

First time trying SUGARFISH as recommended by a colleague and it was utterly delicious. Don’t expect a traditional purist sushi omakase joint, instead quite the opposite. Sushi and rolls were BIG on flavour and I especially like the seasoned rice and the use of ginger and pickles in the dishes. Fish is also extremely fresh served along nice ice cold beers. Atmosphere of restaurant is very relaxed and service team was great.

Visited this branch after only visiting a NYC one, the experience is quite on par, just that the place is quite small and because of the no table booking policy, it could be hard to get seated. We chose to sit on the bar and it was quite alright. Service is ok, but food is really top notch, as usual. They offer substitutes for whatever you don’t eat. So don’t be ashamed of asking.

No reservations can be made. Public parking and street parking are available. Wait time was less than half an hour on a beautiful Saturday night. Amazing prefixed menu. Lovely ambiance and knowledgeable staff. Each course was served in perfect timing. Fish was fresh and paired perfectly with white wine. Left feeling full and satisfied. Great little spot in Beverly Hills.

Sugarfish never misses! If the food is anything, it’s consistent. It always tastes the same, across locations. Absolutely delicious! I came here for an early dinner, around 7pm but it was packed and busy. Service was a bit slow/inattentive, but my food was good!

Definitely a top LA sushi spot. All it takes is one bite to understand why this melt in your mouth sushi is called “sugarfish.” Small but delicious selection, we tried the “Nozawa Trust Me” Menu and loved it. Service was a bit slow but staff was friendly. No reservations, walk in and first come first serve. Probably recommend more for lunch than dinner.

One of my favourite spots to grab sushi to go as well as grab a quick meal! The fish is always fresh and the prices are extremely reasonable for the quality. Staff is also always extremely friendly here!It is a popular spot so prepared to wait. However you check in online and the queue is managed digitally so you can always walk around Beverly Hills while you wait.

If I could eat here everyday I would. I wish we had one in the Bay Area or Vegas! We eat here every chance we get. This trip we went twice for lunch. Service is always good. Dustin our server both times foe this trip is awesome!I get the TRUST ME and add other things or just pick all the things I want.Large scallops are my favorite. I can eat 6 orders in one sitting. I love the crab hand rolls too. Everything is good.The iced green tea is good and they give refills.Hands down the best bang for your buck. Quality of sushi for what you pay is just too good. If you can score seat at the chefs table squirreled away in the back of the restaurant, youre not just getting a meal... but a sushi experience. Chef Nozawa crafts a 20 course sushi bonanza that hits all the right notes. Everything is made in front of you. Every fishs unique flavor is highlighted. Every bite is curated and delicious. The rice is served warmer than you might expect but it adds to the experience. It was a treat to go and any serious sushi eater would find themselves in sushi heaven here. Nozawa Ichiban!!!

The price for an a-list place like this is superb. I recommend the fixed price menu, but not the most expensive one because I got that while my mom had the standard, and there was barely any difference. The service is world class. The portions are tiny but fulfilling as they come out one by one. The taste is mostly fantastic, a couple items that were disappointing. Vibe is cozy but very very dark. Some annoying ppl sitting next to us ruined the vibes. I’ve been to tons of Japanese restaurants and pan Japanese ie Nikkei and this was definitely one I’d take my boujee friends to when they come visit

I had the Trust Me for lunch and I was blown away by the flavor. I think people who dont like Sugarfish might have an issue with a sort of fishy smell associated with fish. The thing is, I noticed it wasnt the fish that smelled fishy, it was the seaweed.Good authentic seaweed has a bit of that factor, like when you smell a fish oil supplement bottle. For me it added to the flavor in a slight limburger niche strong food kind of way. It wasnt THAT strong at all, but it rose an alert on my senses which resulted in the calm and enjoyment of the great flavors of the sushi. The ponzu had a zest to it. Even the mayo was clearly no ordinary mayo. It was creamier and a little sweet.The space was only too limited in the atmosphere. I hope they expand it.Ill be going back for big events with my sushi loving friends and fam.Oh, and in true authentic Japanese fashion, tipping was not asked for nor given as an option on the receipt. I love that. Tips are a manipulative tactic of business owners who should not own businesses. American restaurants need to pay their staff. I can thank them and advertise them when they are exceptional.

This place was fantastic and the service was incredible. My husband and I split one of the Trust Mes after a heavy day of eating. They even had a roll for our three year old (who loves sushi) to enjoy as its not a stereotypical American sushi restaurant with California Rolls (etc.). The fish was fresh and melted in your mouth. This place would be the only reason I go back to L.A.

This is supposed to be a celeb favourite sushi spot, so you have to try it if you are in LA. It was my first sushi in the west coast region. The fish was undoubtely very fresh and the rice was warm (which is how it is supposed to be). Rice was also very well seasoned. Other than that, there was nothing particularly extraordinary about this place. We got the Trust Me deal/option that costs arounf $50. You dont get much for the price. Since there were only 2 of us, we were seated immediately. The servers were nice, but I felt they were way nicer to the people next to us which kinda felt bad. Later that day, I stopped by this really cheap shushi place called sushi stop just to compare the general quality of sushi in the region. Their fish was equally fresh and their rice were equally good. Plus it was wayy cheaper. It was a more casual place though.

We took our guests from Salt Lake City to experience the famous Sugar Fish to go box. The presentation is amazing! The colors combinations are very bright. Sushi quality was very good! The four star is for our disappointments of the automatic extra charge of 30% on top of our bills!!! They didn’t give us any choice at all! We do take out during pandemic 2020 almost every day and every restaurant give us freedom of choice to tip how many percent except at this location. I think it’s very rude to say to the customer take it or leave it! We will not take our guests to this location anymore

So, I wanted to love this place but truthfully, it was good...just not great. The sushi was super fresh and of the 7 or 8 things we tried, we really enjoyed 80% of them. The service seemed rushed and spotty (sometimes super attentive, other times...hello, can someone make eye contact and assist?). The atmosphere was buzzy but cold...minimalist Japanese decor...functional but not warm. Id say go and enjoy it if this type of place is appealing but for me, there are other places Id return to first.

Came to eat here and have allergies to soy sauce explained manger “David do” that I can’t eat soy have too much salt.was very polite and nice but no matter what I said he refused to listen to me. Asked for regional manager and was given his info called and left a message hopefully they care about their customers. it’s sad to leave a bad review not a person that’s does that since it hurts businesses but no chef should tell you how to eat your food cause he wants you to eat it his way. Anyone who knows sushi in LA knows that Sugarfish is pretty spectacular. The fish is always delicious, the warm rice melts in your mouth and the seaweed on the hand rolls is crispy crispy crispy. This place should be called all about the fish because thats what its like.I like that their menu is set prices with service included. Actually wish that was the case at more restaurants.Sugarfish is all over LA. And this one in Beverly Hills is nice. It was really slow when we went, so that, I guess is why service was really slow. It took nearly 2 hours for our meal and check....despite only a few people dining. Thus the downgrade in rating. The food is almost always a 5, and in downtown and other locations the service is fast. Guess BH is just mellow these days.If you like good food (at a reasonable price) then this will definitely appeal to you.

The food itself is pretty good, but everything else at this location is off. The staff is being trained but so many dishes came to the wrong person. The restaurant doesnt have nice decor, too dark, their entrance can use a renovation. The music is too loud and chairs are crowded. I found it really hard to enjoy the entire experience. Also the rice on the sushi should hold up better, it crumbles easily. Great quality of fish and great price.

The course I had, Trust me, was okay. The rice was too warm compared to the fish, which was room temperature (sometimes even cooler,) and didnt stick together. I mean the pieces were falling apart all the time.Inside the venue it was so dark that it was almost impossible to see the food you eat. To read the paper menu, I had to use my phone flash. The waiter explained the dim light as being part of the venues ambience. OK, good to know.If you trust the local experts (sponsored) reviews more, you can probably ignore this one, but I dont recommend this place.

Came here with local friends who swears this is very good. We ordered the trust me, and salmon egg.The salmon egg had a slight smokey flavor to it while at the right saltiness level. I liked it.The sushi came in waves of small dishes of 4 pieces a time. I dont know why they wet the bottom of sushi with dark vinegar, but this causes the rice to fall apart when you pick up the sushi, and ruins the experience.The other thing I found very iffy is the extreme darkness of the place. The overhead lights barely illuminate! I wonder if they do this intentionally to prevent you from spotting issues with the fish. In any case, extremely soporific and a bit too intimate for me.

We were told a thirty minute wait. It was freezing outside with two heaters that were already occupied. We were told we couldn’t wait inside. An hour later we finally got a table in front of the door so we were cold all dinner. Second time there was that large of wait discrepancy. The waiter said the courses were over so I went to get the car. While I was waiting outside the waiter then told the rest of the party there actually were more courses. I didn’t bother to go back in. Never eat there again.

Came here on recommendation but this was disappointing. Fish was decently fresh but the rice was long grain, was too warm and fell apart when picked up. Sushi rice should be short grain, packed properly and slightly above room temperature. The sauce was a bit too strong and overpowering, it distracted from the taste of the fish. The wasabi is also not freshly grated. I guess for the price point, it is just... okay

Dont order take out from this place!! Takes them at least an hour to prepare and even then the sushi is not even close to the quality that Chef Nozawa insisted on when he was behind the counter. This place is a small fraction of what it was. To top it off they charge you more and add an 18% tip on each order. The kids that work here are horrible at what they do...which is provide short cryptic answers to questions and walk your order to you after youve waited over an hour to get it. Dont support places that dont provide good service or quality food. Id liked to go 0 stars on this place...nasty fish and nasty people are not a good thing in todays environment, bit it seems to ne more and more the norm. Bring back the pandemic...we ate here every week and it was great because people had to earn it...have a wonderful weekend. My Saturday was ruined by these people. My fault for going there...

I have tried nearly everything they serve and loved it all (except the bay scallops). No avacados, cream cheese or softshell crab here, just fish, rice and occasional light sauces. We had the Dont think, Just Eat set course and it was awesome. You get a great sampling of almost everything on the menu. There are some unique items off the menu so do ask your server. There are no reservations, so come in advance and get on the wait list. You can pop into another place for a drink as there is no waiting area in the restaurant. The mobile app makes tracking your place in queue. Highly recommended if you like sushi.

Would be 5-stars if it were located in Boston, but the next sushi place we tried (Sushi Zo) was much better. One highlight was the nori: very tender and crispy, almost melts in your mouth. At the designated time, we were taken to a private room of 10 seats where chef Fujita prepared an omakase menu for us. Fujita has a sense of humor and is entertaining (as far as sushi chefs go); the shared experience with the other diners was fun. But, the sushi itself had noticeable flaws. The rice was often too warm and too crumbly. Seasoning was inconsistent; often there wasnt enough salt to bring out the flavors of the fish; a few times the salt was overwhelming. There was too much rice in proportion to fish. About half the menu was non-finfish and just wasnt as tender and savory as good finfish.Overall, it was an enjoyable meal, but there was a lack of balance and flavor. Cant see myself coming back.

Had an exquisite omakase experience at Nozawa Bar with Chef Fujita. This was a upscale, but still casual, omakase, where the food was immaculate but the chef and servers very friendly and approachable. Arrive on time, as they do promptly start 5 mins after your seating reservation. That said, someone came in late, and the chef caught him up very easily. Pro advice from a Sugarfish obsessed:1. Take one of the prefixed - I recommend the Trust Me or The Nozawa2. If you did 1. - your second dish will be sashimi in ponzu. When you finish the dish a waiter will come to pick up the dish (as they need to rotate those plates for other tables)- do not let them take the plate with the leftover ponzu. Keep it and dip the upcoming hand rolls in it. The restaurant is not allowed to give you additional ponzu besides what you have in that dish3. I recommend to not use soy sauce. The sushi is already sauced and salted. It honestly pains me when I see tables dunk and almost marinate the sushi with soy sauce.4. In addition to the prefixed there are a few a la carte dishes. The Albacore belly is the best! Melt in your mouth dream. They usually run out of it quickly.Enjoy!

Order it ;) There are 3 versions of Trust Me: The regular one, the lite version, and the Nozawa. If you have a voracious appetite like me, order the Nozawa. The rice in the sushi was cooked perfectly. Most places butcher the rice and they overcook it. I did not even use any soy sauce, ginger, or wasabi because each dish had a bit of sauce or it was not needed! I fell in love with toro here. Other places do not even compare.... *cough cough* katana/katsuya.It is a very intimate setting, I like going here for dinner and finishing off the night with a bottle of sake.

This is a very nice sushi restaurant for those in the upper-middle income bracket, or for those who want to spend more money than usual on good food. They can run out of some selections of fish by evening. E.g. on my visit they ran out of salmon sushimi.

Chef Fujita took over from LA legend Nozawa-san recently when the latter retired from front-line fish slicing. Hes a hoot and will get you to pose for his Instagram. His 8-seater back room in Sugarfish offers 22-course omakase only, $150 a head including service. Best uni and albacore tuna I have ever had.
