I had the pleasure of dining at this Middle Eastern restaurant, and it was a culinary adventure I wont soon forget. The service was attentive without being intrusive, and the staffs knowledge of the menu was impressive. The food was a revelation, with each dish bursting with authentic Middle Eastern flavors. The ambiance was charming, with its cozy seating and beautiful decor creating an inviting atmosphere. Whether youre a fan of Middle Eastern cuisine or a newbie, this restaurant is a must-visit. You wont be disappointed!

We stopped in this delightful Lebanese restaurant on our way to Hollywood Bowl. The owner was super friendly and the food was very tasty and flavorful. The fatoush salad with the Pomegranate dressing was outstanding. They also have fresh homemade lemonade and mint inched tea. Both were awesome. Highly recommended.

I live in Texas and was visiting Los Angeles in in mid-November, 2022. I really enjoy Mediterranean food. Unfortunately for me, the variety of Mediterranean restaurants in my part of Texas is slim, so I was really excited to try a place in LA. We were going to see a show at the Dolby Theater so I searched up a place in that area to eat before the show. We found Sumac and checked the reviews. They were great, so we decided to give it a try. Oh, my goodness, this place was outstanding! The food quality was amazing and the taste was really wonderful. Fresh, authentic, delicious. The restaurant has a great ambiance and a peaceful vibe. Better yet, it wasnt even expensive (granted, I was on vacation so prices mattered less). Overall, a great meal, a great experience. I would highly recommend.

I was very pleased with the numerous vegan options on the menu. Their maple syrup Baklava is a must try. Great service and really nice quality food. Also reasonably priced. Street parking available and it is only few blocks from Hollywood.

Had the worst experience. The owner who took our order screwed up our order and when I expressed my dissatisfaction he asked me to leave which I happily did. He apparently got offended that he got called out for forgetting half of our order. Too arrogant and the restaurant was not all that for so much attitude! No thank you not even for free!

I recently visited a small Mediterranean restaurant and unfortunately, I had an incredibly disappointing experience. From the moment I arrived, I noticed that there was no one else in the restaurant which should have been a warning sign. I decided to give it a chance and ordered a few dishes from the menu.But, to my horror, the food was absolutely disgusting. The flavors were off and the ingredients tasted stale and old. I couldnt even finish my meal as the taste was so revolting. It was clear that the food had been sitting out for a while, and wasnt freshly prepared.The only positive aspect of my experience was the service. The staff were attentive and courteous, but unfortunately, that didnt make up for the terrible food. I wouldnt recommend this restaurant to anyone and I wouldnt waste my time or money going there again.Only took a bite of my chicken and they still charged me for the whole meal

Ive had the pleasure of dining at this restaurant many times. The food is authentic and delicious - and the place is very clean and well decorated. There are a lot of Mediterranean restaurants in the Greater LA area, but few are genuinely authentic like this one. They also are great for catering and private event opportunities, which I have arranged for - and during my experience with them, I found the owner and management to be professional, responsive, and dependable. I would definitely recommend that you try this restaurant.

Love the outdoor dining atmosphere at this medium traffic Hollywood neighborhood spot. The Shwarma Chicken fries were generous and flavor-filled. The Chicken Kabob plate was savory with perfectly grilled, tender pieces. Will go back again to try the other plentiful menu options. Excellent service too!

Eli and his team are amazing!! They catered Thanksgiving for us, and it was literally the best thanksgiving meal I’ve ever had. I know I’m not exaggerating because my husband literally said the same! We were completely blown out of the water with everything. Our favorites were probably the soup and baklava, but really everything was just above and beyond anything we expected! Looking forward to using them again for the next holiday!

Total disappointment!! Yesterday we ordered a chicken shawarma entree, kafta lemon entree, and beef shawarma entree.Firstly the service was so slow. Second, kafta and beef plates were served, and portions were smaller than in the pictures they post on their website and the pitas were so cold. Probably they brought them directly from the fridge. Lastly, we got the chicken shawarma which was not even close to the shawarma taste, it was like a chicken saute with weird cinnamon powder.All these plates are over $22, I definitely do not recommend this restaurant. Probably this is the longest review I have ever typed!

This restaurant is hands down a family favorite after today. The owner is an absolute gem of a person. Our experience was the best weve had exploring what LA has to offer in the way of good food. The frog legs, tabouleh, and falafel fries were the top 3 favorites. However, everything we tried was absolutely phenomenal. The restaurant was decorated nice but that was about it. The food is overpriced for what you get. Their “4 day” cooked shawarma was over cooked and dry. They should have cooked it less days if that’s the case. The flavors did not mix well. The tahini and babaganoush had a bitter taste that was not pleasant as well.Most importantly, the waiter did not seem friendly at all and forgot to bring us water. She then came back with a half filled pitcher from the faucet and made us pour the water and distribute the glasses ourselves. The only time we saw the waiter was when she came from the back to talk to her friends at a table. She served us without saying a word somehow. Never did I feel comfortable or welcomed here. Not worth the money and just not a good experience the whole time here. I’m not sure who is writing these 5 star reviews.

Had the wonderful experience of dining here with my daughter and son-in-law. Everything we had was exceptional. I had the chicken swarma plate and it was delightful. The owners Stephanie and Eli were very friendly and chatted with us at length about their restaurant. Don’t miss this place if you LOVE Mediterranean food!

Theres just no way that all these positive reviews are real. There are so many wonderful Mediterranean restaurants in Los Angeles and this isnt one of them.The falafel was wonderful and the only redeeming thing at this restaurant.The lentil soup was astringent and the shawarma seemed reheated past its prime.Worst of all was the service. The restaurant was empty and yet the waitress was irritated and could not be bothered with our order.The room is filled with neon lights that flash and hum cheaply and the bathroom is in desperate need of a clean.

Not what I expected from a restaurant rated so highly. Got the chicken kebab plate which said 2 skewers of chicken. Honestly barely looked like 1. Nowhere near the amount shown in the pictures. Pictures the restaurant posted should be removed because they are misleading. Wouldn’t come back again or recommend anyone to come here. $21 for a chicken kebab plate with barely any chicken isn’t worth it especially when the flavors weren’t there either. Greek salad was good and was the only saving grace.

I have been out and about to many restaurants in SoCal, but this place is really at the top of my list!The food is exceptionally fresh and clean, and the quantity-price ratio is absolutely on point. Terrible food, the Chicken Shawarma was cold and tasted bland! Also, the gentleman behind the desk was EXTREMELY rude to an Uber Eats driver. The guy said he accepted the delivery and was there within 5 min, the guy behind the desk berated him and accused him of being 33 minutes late (Such a weird guy for knowing that exact time lol!) and was talking to the driver in a belittling fashion. Honestly, the French fries were awesome, and the hummus tasted amazing like it was straight out of a Goya can lol. However, because of the guys attitude, I felt bad for the driver, and so me and my family and friends have agreed to never come back to this place until that loser is fired, or they solve the shawarma recipe!

Absolutely everyone must give it a try. The atmosphere is very vibrant and welcoming. I had a chance to talk to Nancy and her spirit totally light up the place. Her family risked everything in her home country and moved here to start a whole new life. You taste he art in the food despite all the corruption that her country is still suffering from and the lives they have lost but she still makes you feel like you are in her home. She treats her customer with love and care. She makes sure everyone who walks-in recognise that this restaurant is her home country. Se tried to bring everything she could with her family her to represent the beauty of her homeland. She is a brave woman and I want to tell her that youve hope to every other woman through your tasty food that probably can heel partial of your pain but you made my day when I ate there. Just went for the first time, and I’ll definitely be back! I live near here and have always wanted to go, because it has a great ambience and I love sumac as a seasoning. Finally went for the first time, and it lived up to expectations! There’s a great breakfast deal with yummy coffee and desserts. Delicious baklava—my partner said it’s the best he’s ever tasted. And the service was fantastic. Eli was SO nice and welcoming. We came for breakfast this time, but their falafel and hummus look so good that I have a feeling I’ll be going there for lunch or dinner soon.

Spice up your life with SUMAC!I was looking for a really nice, family-owned Mediterranean restaurant and SUMAC popped up. The setting was very comfortable and inviting. The man who greeted us, Eli, was very hospitable and educational about the food. We even asked, What is Sumac? and he informed us it is a traditional spice used in Lebanese cooking. He proceeded to bring us some samples of spices for us to try alongside Lebanese olive oil and some pita. The food was outstanding, the service was top notch and I am excited to come back. (Side note: the sumac spice is delicious and is for sale there as well!)

This star is for the waiter (male), he was the only positive of this restaurant. I am extremely disappointed in the lack of hygiene and respect that some of the staff have for their customers. Server touched my food with bare hands and when I said respectfully that I don’t want to eat it due to hygiene, the male server was overly kind and happy to take it away; offering to take off the bill. Within minutes a female worker came aggressively out to our table questioning me and being extremely rude. When my friend went to pay the bill she saw the order comped on the screen but the worker reversed what was promised to us, questioning my friend again until the waiter confirmed. She also refused to take cash when they said they take cash. And she then proceeded to whip the pay machine around before my friend had a chance to tip the waiter. Extremely rude, unsanitary (both restrooms and food touching). Flavorless food. I’ve never reviewed a restaurant before but this has really pushed me to do so as I don’t want another customer to eat flavorless food from a bitter person.

Visiting the Hollywood area and stumbled across Sumac when looking for some Mediterranean bites. Ample parking on the street and outdoor dining was great. The falafel and hummus were delicious as was the thin pita that came with it. Also ordered a chicken shawarma wrap which was fantastic -- the pita was grilled, the chicken very tender and flavorful, and the veggies in there fresh. Highly recommend!

Pizza is not worth the money, its just a mini-pizza in which coal remains in the wrong proportions under the crust, lentil soup for two, a portion is just like for the poor, everything is very mini ...
