Ive been visiting Summer canteen for at least the last five years. Probably longer. It is good food. I wouldnt say its completely authentic Thai food and it is a little bit on the sweeter side. I do think its a solid choice for Thai food in the area though. The atmosphere is okay. I find the dining area a little uncomfortable and its usually kind of cold inside....but I would rather that vs too hot. Most of the dishes are very good. I will say that orange chicken is consistently overcooked.

Good location for an outdoor snack. The ambulance dine in is pleasant.Menu includes happy hour drinks, salads, Thai dishes to take away tea and coffee.Good customer service

Wow! This place is amazing!I came here with a friend on a Monday afternoon, and we were seated immediately. The atmosphere was lovely and peaceful, and the staff were super friendly.Our food arrived quickly after ordering and was absolutely delicious. The portions were generous and the prices were reasonable.I love that they offer a nice variety of vegetarian options, and use Impossible meats in the vegetarian dishes. I had the Impossible Drunken Noodles, and honestly, I cant stop thinking about it, (Ill definitely be beck).Everything was cooked to perfection. The Thai Iced Coffee was amazing too.If youre in the area, this place is not to be missed. Id give 10 stars if I could.

The garlic pepper wings were just OK, nothing special no spice. The Pad See EW was bland. We asked if they could be made spicy and the server said yes, only to bring out noodles with absolutely no spice at all, they were bland and had an off putting taste. It was hard to try and finish the noodles. If you dine in, they never check on you or ask if your food is ok or if you need anything.

Absolutely delicious, with great service to boot. Highly recommend the curry noodles if you want a rich, hearty flavor. Notable beer selection. If youre in the area, its worth a visit!

So far Ive had the pork belly, calamari, tom-kha soup, egg rolls, garlic noodles with beef, and drunken noodles with chicken and tofu. The pork belly was amazing!!!!!! The drunken noodles are my favorite and never disappoint...Ill be back to try some other dishes but WOW THE PORK BELLY OMG OMG OMG

My Summer Roll today lacked Vermicelli in it, was really sticky and overpacked so the rice wrapper was bursting. 3 shrimp used in the whole wrap. The sauce was the best part but otherwise it was JUST greens. Honestly, I truly do not enjoy the food here. It’s sad because my workplace orders from here weekly and finally I’ve just decided, it’s just not for me. The food and overall taste feels very bland when compared to other Asian cuisine restaurants.

Summer Canteen continues to impress and consistently delivers excellent food and service. Since moving to the area eight years ago this has been one of my top favorite restaurants in the city. I have never had a bad dish or bad service.The food here is freshly prepared and served hot with a smile. If you love Thai food or if you have never tried Thai food, you WILL love this place. And to turn it up a notch, I would say its Thai Fusion cuisine.The restaurant has recently added a new happy hour menu with drink and appetizer specials. And continues to offer great lunch combo specials.Now go get your grub on!

The female waitress is unprofessional in serving. She listens to my order and she tells me someone will take my order. 10 minutes later, she comes to take my order again. I also tell her to leave the menu. She takes it away without asking me when I am not there. When I ask how long it will take to get my food, she tells me right there and runs away. Who is giving such a vague answer? I try to talk to a manager. She still tries to explain it is due to a busy time. Hence, i don’t wanna continue the conversation further. I am a local and dine here as well as order take-out quite often. The food is always on point. The drunken noodle is something to rave about and I crave it constantly!! Its fresh, flavorful and spicy. Just what I would want fromThai food. The curry noodle is also a great, comforting dish. It hits the spot on a rainy day. The service is friendly, but leaves something to be desired in terms of efficiency, especially if you sit out of eye sight. You kind of feel like theyve forgotten about you. But I will always come back for the wonderful food and lovely ambiance.

This place is great. I usually get the same thing every time I go - Green curry with brown rice and tofu (but sometimes chicken or steak). It is one of my favorite meals to get in the neighborhood. It is very filling and delicious. They have great lunch specials and a killer Thai tea.

Food was terrific and tasty. Service was great, prompt, and attentive. I like their lunches and the portions are right sized and atmosphere is great. Wish there was a little more parking but thats the only drawback. Still just as good and a delicious spot for lunch.

Food here is delicious! Love their chicken wings and fried tofu appetizers. The Panang beef, sweet n sour chicken and vegetable stir fry with shrimps are the best tasting Thai dishes Ive had so far. I highly recommend this place, but do come early, before noon I you can to avoid the lunch crowd and have a parking space.

There are lots of Thai restaurants in my neighborhood but with the nice service and excellent food this has become my go to place. Serving staff is very accommodating and helpful. I especially like the curries and their brown rice is the best!Take out is prepared quickly, wrapped well and is just as delicious as eating in.Highly recommended.

Staff is always very friendly and attentive. You can taste the difference in their use of high quality ingredients. The restaurant itself is very cute and pleasant to be in- especially for an easy place to eat out on a weeknight. Food is consistently tasty, and I havent had a bad meal yet. The dishes Ive had always hit that magic Thai sweet/sour/spicey/savory combo that I crave so much. Summer Canteen is exactly what it advertises. My only complaint- I almost wish it was a little more crowded, its earned it!

Well, I though it might be better, from the strong reviews here. I found nothing wrong with it - but it was just OK. I had ordered Medium but it was quite spicy - I can eat both so no problem but if Spicy IS stronger than this - whoa! Brown rice was good, Panang curry was ok and we had chicken satay starters - not that good, and had to ask for more sauce as it only came with a small amount. And KINDA PRICEY here... 3 stars at most.

This place has really good food. I really like the free passion fruit ice tea taste very refreshing. Pad Thai is good, spicy rice is super good. I am not a big fan of the fried glaze orange donut chicken aka orange chicken but it was good and the pad see ew was delicious

Service was great. We are vegetarian and the waiter was great. He helped us switch all our orders to vegetarian versions. He even verified that there was egg in some dishes. The food was nice and spicy just as we requested. The pad thai and green curry were fabulous! The waiters were very nice to our kids and offered high chairs and cups with lids. service was fast and all our meals were correct but we were the only ones in the place (Sunday at 11 when they first opened).

One of our FAVORITE local restaurants....not your typical Thai or Asian restaurant in LA...the menu is truly unique, and there have so many YUMMY options. I think it’s probably majority Thai food, but seems to have a California fusion feel to it.One of favorites are the Tofu Fries to start (I’ve never been anywhere wheee tofu is prepared so crispy...I don’t know how they do it). By themselves, they’re kind of bland, but when dipped is sweet chili sauce (with peanuts and cilantro), the Tofu Fries are DELECTABLE!Other excellent menu items include: Ribeye with String Beans (small pieces stir fried...YUM!); Garlic Chicken Noodles; Thailand Yellow Curry; Pad See Ew (so?). They also have tons of delicious seafood options, but our family isn’t big on fish very often, but or friends say the love it all.We eat here about every 2 weeks, and we bring friends and visitors all the time. The service is truly EXCELLENT! (Very friendly staff who know us by sight...all so nice). It’s casual enough to wear shorts and a nice T-shirt or polo shirt in the summer, and most people don’t dress like slobs, but it’s definitely not too fancy.Overall. If you’re looking for a nice local restaurant to add to your places to try, Summer Canteen is great choice. It’s a great place to bring people visiting from out of town, as they probably have never had food like this before.

Mistakenly overcharge my card twice, overdrafted my account and laughed in my face about it.We had a table of over 10 people, who all paid cash except me. The server apparently thought the $200+ cash was a tip that she pocketed while charging my card the entire bill. I disputed this, and the manager said that it was not to worry and that I could dispute it with my bank. No, I wanted her to reverse the charge, but she wanted to avoid any penalty. I told her shed be liable for fraud if she didnt report the error, and then she said she would reverse the transaction. And then the server repeated the charge. My bank texted with over $400 in charges from Summer Canteen, reporting that I had overdrafted my account. I repeated this to the manager who laughed and said, Why so wittle money in your account? Oh ho ho ho!It took more then three months to get my money back, but I got stuck with a $35 overdraft fee. I will never return and cannot wait for this gross knockoff chain to be run out of business. Dont trust the fake reviews, this place was like Panda Express on a bad day.

I went here with my boyfriend last night and placed 2 to go orders. After over 40 minutes of waiting our food was finally ready. It wasnt like we ordered anything crazy, just two pad thai and that took forever. There was no apology for us waiting just, We have a lot of take out orders today. Okay, I get that, but they could have told us that it was going to take a long time when we first placed our order or given us something complimentary for our wait.Then the pad thai was average at best. I wont be coming back here again due to the poor customer service. If you value youre time and are looking for really great Asian food, just go down the street to Spice Season.

I have been going to Summer Canteen for the past three or four years. I accidently discovered the place while driving. This place has unique Thai dishes that are delicious and flavorful.I like the atmosphere, which is relaxing. Place is more spacious than your normal family style thai resturant.They have the best helpers with Big Smiles catering to you from the moment you get there until your departure.Love the food. Just moved around the corner from this place and it is one of my new favorites. I love thai food, there is hardly ever a time where I wouldnt eat thai food if someone suggested it so I am excited that it is so close. This isnt normal thai though, it is almost a thai fusion. Their Yellow Curry Noodle is SOOO good!! It is like the perfect mix of yellow curry and also a noodle dish and has so much flavor! Be careful because some of the spice sinks to the bottom and when you get down it gets super firey! Excited to go back and try the tofu fries...

Personally I wouldnt even want to give it one star. It took them a whole hour to serve our very basic order (fried rice, edamame, and pad thai). During the whole hour they didnt even ask for drinks refill. When I asked, they gave me an ATTITUDE PROBLEM. The food also really sucked. Even I can cook better than that. NEVER WILL I GO AGAIN! Worst dining experience in years and cost me $253 for a lamb shank and a beer.After miserable service from several servers who spoke roughly 2-4 words in English, they brought the check for over $300. After arguing that the service was doubling our drink orders, we finally got it down to the appropriate $208 balance. Since they were too incompetent to not understand how to break a check 8 ways, everyone paid in cash except me. My receipt comes back as a $208 charge, despite being handed over $150 in cash from the other 7 party members. Eventually I got the manager to intervene, who argued that it was my fault. But it didnt end there.Instead of refunding me back the $208 onto my card, the cashier, who just happened to be mentally handicapped, charged an additional $45 (which was my share). Now, $253 in the hole, my card was overdrafted. The manager had the audacity to laugh and ask, why so little money in your account? I responded, So if my card winds up in the hands of an incompetent, they dont liquidate my savings, too. She laughed and gave me a 10% off coupon. Gee, thanks, lady.Its been over a week and I have not had the money transferred back, and despite my attempt to contact them, they have never acknowledged my requests.I will never return to this restaurant, nor this franchise.
