My friend made reservations for us here and the restaurant was very accommodating! The people here were very attentive and super pleasant which made the whole experience just absolutely great! The restaurant had a good trendy vibe and I liked the interior wall arts. We loved their nigiris especially their scallops and salmon which all of them were fresh and perfectly cut. Quite attentive service and overall, I loved everything about this restaurant in terms of food, the price, service, and they have parking which is always a plus. Will definitely come back and try different dishes off of their menu. Highly recommend!

Sushi quality is high, really enjoyable experience.The sashimi was excellent, the salmon nigiri, the unagi nigiri were excellent. The dragon roll and California roll were perfect.Highly recommend you giving this placr a try.

Sumo has a great selection of delicious sushi! The owners are great and provide excellent service every time we visit. They conveniently have a parking spot right by the restaurant. The location is easy to get to. The whole essence of the restaurant feels very homey, cozy, and welcoming.

Sumo is easily one of the best sushi restaurants in the Bay Area! The atmosphere is cozy, the service is fantastic and the food is absolutely delicious. The fish is consistently the star of the show every time I come here- each bite simply melts in my mouth! Some of my favorites are Agedashi Tofu, Baked Mussels, Bento boxes, Sashimi, Orange blossom roll and also the Sumo special roll is a must try item on the menu. Great selection of drinks and desserts as well. The quality of the food and the care of preparation is great!!

My husband and I both had bento, Lion King, and rainbow sushi. Both sushi was deliciously fresh. Staff were kind and nice. Would definitely recommend. Loved their decor, great atmosphere!

Not customer friendly.I had something in my throat when I got sitting in the table. I started coughing and nobody came to ask me if I wanted water.I stand up and went to the front table to ask for water, I told them I had something in my throat and need water asap to help myself. THEY TOLD ME TO GO HAVE A SIT AND THAT THEY WILL BRING ME WATER LATAER, it took them 5 minutes to come just to ask again if I needed water. (I already went to the restroom and drink from there)This is not a dramatic situation or anything like that, but I just can say that people here are not customer friendly.

I highly recommend sumo Japanese food in Albany Ca. I hadnt gone in a long time my friend and I went there yesterday we both really liked and enjoy our food we both got bento boxes and POT stickers, End EDAMAME everything was really good. There is street parking but sometimes it could be tough theres a small parking lot in the back yethat a lot of people dont know about. The staff were friendly and nice it was a pleasant atmosphere I think theres usually a coupon in the ValpaK The 2 times we went recently we used different coupons from there the saki coupon you can use with either of the other money off coupons. It reasonably priced anyway but the coupon makes it even better you get the valo pack in the mail or you can go online and get the coupon from there. I went back with another friend about a week later and we both loved our food and got $10 off our meal from the Valpak. Both of my friends agreed that this restaurant is better and you get a better deal and more food than the one we usually go to with in El Cerrito which we like also. Seems like this is a family own business and definitely people Should go there. I believe theyre close Mondays and their hours are Tuesday to Friday 11 AM to 2:30 PM then they close and reopen from 430 to 8:30 PM and according to the web, I think theyre open from 4 to 930 on Saturday and Until 830 on Sunday but I dont know for sure probably should call 1st.

Seafood udon was bland, no flavor, seafood was over cooked with little shrimp and maybe two clams. It didn’t help that my wife found a piece of plastic in the udon. The wait was really long, for the drinks, food and the bill. Although they did try their best. The sushi was pretty good and the people were nice, you could tell they were understaffed.

Service was a bit screwed up when our waiter was taken off our table (AFTER he had took our drink orders) and went to the table next to us (who were seated about 15 minutes after we were). So he took their drink and food orders while we waited for our waitress and overall it was about an hour before our cook came out and began preparing our meal

Lovely atmosphere, and quality traditional Japanese food. The decor is well thought out, I wish I got a photo of the mural of the seasons. They have excellent vegetarian options, and I am told their raw fish is great. I have passed by this place for years and overlooked it. Looks like a small hole in the wall from the outside, on the inside its like an upscale restaurant.

Ive been coming here since it opened. Ive never had service like this. It was my husbands birthday and all he wanted was sushi.Hottest day of the year and everyone in Albany decides they want sushi. This place was busy. With one server, one bus boy and a sushi chef they couldnt keep up. We waited half an hour to order then forty five minutes for our food to arrive. In that time two tables walked out.When or food arrived the sushi tasted like old warm Safeway sushi. I just wanted my husband to have a nice birthday dinner. We were sorely disappointed.

The food is great, the prices are reasonable, and they serve a lot of food. I have never left hungry or dissatisfied. The servers are always kind and generous, I would highly recommend this place.

Very friendly service, but food was just okay. Sashimi presentation seemed basic. Fish quality was okay, a bit mushy. Hand roll nori was soggy. Udon was good, tonkatsu ramen was fair. Tempura was pretty good except for the shrimp which seemed more like ebi fry instead of lighter tempura. Complementary edamame was nice. Likely won’t return.

This first part is not regarding the food. Do not order through beyond eats. Order by phone if you are picking up yourself. I had to wait 45 minutes because if some glitch with beyond eats. They did give me a free seaweed salad to compensate for the wait. Also, this restaurant made no effort to provide social distancing, delivery workers were crowded into a small entrance while the entrance into the restaurant was blocked off. The food was affordable but the quality of the fish was just ok.

Went there 30 min before closing. Ordered an appetizer and food to go. We ordered a ton of food, waitress didnt write down everything, we corrected her on a couple items she missed. Came home, didnt get everything we ordered, and somethings were WRONG. No chopsticks either, one salad for 2 people.Come on guys, we drove 20 minutes in the rain because we had such a great time before.Now Im sure the food is excellent, since Im doing this now out of annoyance, but I dropped $80 there. I expect to get what I paid for, or you can give me back the amount for what i didnt get.

We searched and searched for a good sushi place in the east bay. Sumo is now our go to spot. Its easy to find really expensive high end sushi, and there are plenty of cheap crappy spots. Sumo hits the mark with great sushi and totally affordable prices. Try the Jalapeno bombs. Awesome!

Pretty decent food. I got a bento box. Its a little overpriced for what you get, but I like that you can substitute various items in the box for no charge. Some things do cost an upcharge though. The tempura was very bland, however. Teriyaki chicken was alright and the sushi was alright. The pot stickers were very good.

Food is pretty good, nice big portion (maybe thats why this restaurant is called Sumo) but it can be better, the teriyaki chicken is nice and crispy but a little bit on the dry side (just a little) my wifes sukiyaki s beef is kinds of overcooked so is a little tuff besides that the food is not bad***UPDATE*** My Wife sand I came here few more times and then we found out their good quality control and quantity not that great. Its NOT authentic Japanese food. My tendon was weird. The shrimp was prebattered and fried, while the rest of the vegetables were dipped in tempura batter and fried. Then there were cooked carrots, onions, and zucchini under the tempura and the sauce was NOT tempura sauce. My husbands bento was ok. The flavors are off. No one there was Japanese. Not going back.
