Hot roll was very overcooked, and there was no sriracha available! They didn’t offer another spice option. I bet there’s more options out there. Inside the restaurant looks like still seating like we are in a pandemic, it’s like that they are about to close inside. The to go containers are low quality for what we are paying for. Everything spilled out of it. I hope they step up their game. Very disappointed this time.

Although it is not a traditional Japanese restaurant (its run by Koreans) food is tasty and fresh. We loved the different rolls! The staff is friendly and there is a terrace to sit outside if you wish. Parking available in front.

(The food was so good we dove right in and completely forgot to take pictures…until the very last roll)- They knocked the ball outta park with their service, our server had the entire menu memorized! He was able to list all ingredients to any roll we had asked. All the servers continued to check in on us during our time there and made sure we were enjoying the food. We love how all the staff greeted us as we entered and exited as well. Overall, we felt really cared for and that made the dining experience even more memorable!- Everything we ordered was delicious and definately hit the spot!(Beef yakisoba, Philly roll, crunch roll, gyoza, squid nigiri, snow roll, kara roll)- The best part is how affordable the menu was even without happy hour! (Most expensive roll was around $15)

Solid Happy Hour joint in TO. The garlic chili edamame is awesome. Highly recommend that appetizer.Note for families with kids. When we went they had no booster seats or high chairs for our 2YO.

I was looking for a meeting happy hour spot AND sushi spot in general thats fairly close to home. I actually randomly found this place by driving by. I know weird right?Didnt even look it up before I went. Butsometimes youve just got to do it. And if you get lucky you find an awesome new spot. Well that was the casefor this place.Now that Ive been here a few times. I think its time for a review.Upon walking up to the door I was greeted immediately.Chose to sit outside in their tent area. Although they offer indoor seating I didnt opt for that on this visit.They have QRcode menus. Very easy to understand.Plenty of pictures of the food if you need to see them. Descriptions of the food are clear.I went with many things on the menu.The happy hour menu is very big for a happy hour menu.The prices are right and the food is delicious.I especially liked the garlic chili edamame.Would I recommend this place? Weve gotten take out several times before and the sushi is good, so I wont give it one star. But we went to eat in the restaurant and it was pretty frustrating. We signed into the wait-list app and I got the text letting us know we were in. Then when I checked our spot in line we had disappeared from the line and the screen as well. We informed staff but nothing was done. It was disappointing since many people signed in behind us, so we ended up leaving. Maybe just order for pick up and dont rely on service here.

A good spot to go right after work. The food is not absolutely fantastic, but not bad by any means. If it wasnt for the Happy hour, I probably wouldnt go here. The regular menu pricing is not worth it, while happy hour prices bring the cost-to-taste level much more balanced. They have fun Capri-Sojus, a soju inspired cocktail, that have flashy lights and a childlike nostalgia to them. I go here when I have a sushi craving but my wallet doesnt, and one again only for happy hour.

Sushi was good. They had great quality for the price. It’s more of a bigger vibe not intimate. The staff is 10 out of 5, very helpful and always watching! If you’re in the area I’d recommend this place, if you want simple sushi nothing crazy (although they do have some pretty crazy specialty rolls!)

Can’t figure out how to edit my other review so I’m posting a new one. Been going here for years it’s been amazing. Except for tonight there was poop in my shrimp. When I told them, I was informed by my server that management said “we don’t do that here” referring to deveining the shrimp… that’s disgusting. Management couldn’t even come and talk to me themselves…I didn’t notice it til the pieces towards the end because I always leave the two end pieces… I showed them, they wouldn’t do anything about it not even an apology from management for the issue and they brushed it off. Didn’t even care that it was in the shrimp because “we don’t do that here” … like that’s a health issue. I didn’t even ask for a full refund that’s my issue. I straight up said I don’t expect a full refund or refund due to almost finishing it before I found out I would never expect that for food I ate that much of all I asked for was it they could do half off on the plate of sushi but they essentially said you get nothing… not even a formal apology from management. I just think that this was so poorly handled by the company especially when I’m pulling it apart and showing it to you. Very unprofessional breaks my heart after going here for so long. The rest of the food that didn’t have shrimp tempura was good as always though. The experience just left a bad taste in my mouth literally and figuratively.

This review is for takeout only (covid). Got to thousand oaks around 8, looking for a quick bite for a late dinner. They start happy hour pricing at 8:30, so waited a bit before placing our order on the phone. Customer service was very helpful with helping us find the menu online. Generous portions for a great price during happy hour - and tasty! Definitely took care of our sushi cravings

Sushi was good but not the best in comparison to other places Ive frequented. There was plenty of flavor in their rolls with a unique variety of dishes to choose from. Try the chili edamame, one of my favorites! The salmon skin roll was prepared nicely, crispy and not oily. Mackerel wasnt very fresh but the remaining sashimi was good.Customer service was lacking at this location. We had a party of 5 adults and 4 young children. We all placed our orders at the same time but only the same 3 adults were being served their food. By the time the childrens and remaining adults food arrived, the rest of the party was already done eating. We flagged down the server multiple times to enquire about the kids meals and each time they would say its on its way. In the end they apologized and stated there was a mixup in the kitchen. Nothing more was done to compensate. Overall food was good, service was poor.

I like sushi and rolls in general. I have been to this place a few times and I had a mixed experience there. People are in general nice and welcoming. Place has a good ambiance. In general, decent food and sake.But the service can be a hit or miss. At times service is very good and the other times it was poor. They didn’t bring us plates for 10 mins after our rolls arrived. All the details regarding ingredients was not disclosed and their jalapeño popper contained shrimp to which my friend was allergic to. I’m glad he didn’t it right away and I informed him before he ate.At last, when the check arrived, there were items added to our bills which we didn’t even order. After a few minutes, same thing happened to a couple sitting next to us. All I’m saying is to cross verify your check for accuracy before you pay it.

It is okay. Although this is not my favorite, my friend wanted to try their lunch special so I went there yesterday. Their staff is very unfriendly and they all look mad. And if you want the actual sushi or Sashimi, this is not the best one to go to. But if you want something like teriyaki, rolls, donkatshu, etc, its okay.

Sumo Sushi has such great deals. There are great lunch combos or you can pig out with one of 2 happy hours. The first happy hour is 4-6 pm and then again at 8:30 pm.

I am picky when it comes to sushi. I have not found anything on the menu here that is not worth trying. This place is incredibly fresh. The yellowtail belly was the favorite this time. It just melted in the mouth. That and the eel will be on our list again next time we go back.

I dont not typically like sushi, but I was invited here by a friend. Let me tell you that this sushi is SO GOOD.I LOVED their avocado rolls and their fried California rolls, and there was more that I dont remember the name of. Even their ginger was noteworthy! It had that nice fresh crunch and its flavor was vibrant.The staff was also very kind and welcoming, and even on a busy Friday night we got a table for 3 in just 5 minutes.

Disappointing service. Accuracy and service have always been problematic, but food was good and happy hour pricing was good. Happy hour pricing has been limited to only a few days per week. I just made a takeout order and the person on the phone complained when I wanted a pickup in 1-1/4 hours. I offered to pickup sooner if it helped with a busy kitchen. After agreeing, they texted to say my order was ready 30 minutes earlier than scheduled. I asked the manager and lead person to make things right three times when I picked up the food. They let me know that I needed to schedule in advance 1 hour next time (like I did originally) and declined to make things right. There are a few other sushi places around. Ill be happily giving them my business.

Maybe just not the right day. We walked in- no one greeted us or the other 2 parties who walked in before us. The woman was on the phone talking about how she had customers complaining. Giving one star because as my friend and I were sitting at the table finishing our drinks one of the hosts came up to us and asked if we could leave because they had people waiting. I don’t know about anyone else, we both thought that was extremely rude and such a disrespectful statement any restaurant employee could say to a patron. Asking customers to leave because other people are waiting, that’s how it is when you go out to eat on a Friday night, sometimes you are going to have to wait. We We’re thinking about ordering some to go food for family members at home, they lost that sale.We will not be going back nor any of our friends or family. I always leave this place with a satisfied belly and a big smile on my face! Service is kind and attentive and the prices are good. Happy hour is from 3-6 and then REVERSE happy hour is 8-close, I think.Make sure you head there early with your party though because it gets pretty busy during peak hours. Staff was friendly. The vibe was cool. I visited during happy hour with a few friends. Being vegetarian there wasnt much for me to try, but my friend enjoyed the rolls they ordered. Not a local but was in town for a few days. This was walking distance from our hotel which was a bonus & the outdoor seating extra plus. What a happening place. Went to dinner with a few of my buddies last night and this place was hopping on a Wednesday night.Everything we ordered was on point. We did not have any favorite dish so we randomly one here and there and they were all mouth watering and delicious. I love this place. Their sushi is always delicious. They have a special called the Jason roll which I had for the first time yesterday and i loved it. Our favorite local sushi joint. One server we frequently get, Dylan, is especially personable and attentive. A likable pro. The food is terrific, the restaurant is always clean and nice looking, the fancy rolls taste great (check out the Oh Yeah Baby roll). The simple miso soup is top notch, and happy hour is a good deal. They just added a fancy waitlist system and they have a ton of extra patio seating thanks to COVID expansion.

This is our favorite restaurant in Newbury Park, sushi or otherwise!Their prices on the basic rolls (California roll, tuna roll, etc.) are very reasonable for dine-in, and they have Happy Hour specials every day from 3-6 and 8:30 to closing. The salmon skin roll is our favorite, we also love the cucumber sunomoto and the salmon collar.This restaurant can be fairly noisy and bustling, so its good for kids. The decor is modern with an Asian vibe (of course!)The only drawback is they are usually pretty busy, if you get there after 5:30, there will probably be a wait!

I used to LOVE coming here with my co workers. However recently they changed their crab meat which is in a number of rolls they serve and it is absolutely awful. It tastes like it’s bad, and when we asked the manager about it she said they actually upgraded to a higher quality crab. Yet it tasted horrible. I went the other day with friends and we had to send back three of the rolls that had the crab meat in them. I’ll only come back if they change back the crab.

My family and I got sick for two days from the sushi I ate from this place. I gave a try to this restaurant last weekend because they off some cheap sushi and rolls. I tried the salmon, tuna, yellow-tale sushi and spicy tuna, yellow-tale roll. I could not taste the fish was fresh or not fresh at all when I was eating. However, it made me sick for a few days! I expected not get sick after trying their sushi. Please serve the customers the better fish than what it is. Also the waitresses were ignoring us and service was slow. My experience was an awful. Any server will gladly get you a drink refill, place an extra roll order for you, or grab your check. This place is close to my work and easy to get to. I always order to go and even though I always get what I order, it is not always correct. I do not care for the smelt egg (those little orange eggs) and one of my fav rolls here comes with them on top. Half the time they put them on even though I request them not to. They are really hard to wipe off so this is incredibly annoying. Other than the small issue of the egg I enjoy their rolls and the hostess staff is always really friendly.

I am a longtime regular; for years Sumo has been my go-to place to get my sushi fix. The quality is great and I always leave completely satisfied. The only down side is that they have grown so popular that it is always busy and they dont do reservations so you can sometimes wait a while to be seated (but trust me, they are well worth the wait)I highly recommend their spider roll, freshwater eel and the yellowtail belly.

I went to have lunch on saturday by myself and the waiter (and another one) were pushing me to eat faster and they even brought the bill for me to pay when I was not even half way done.
