I’ve been going to this restaurant for years. I’m so happy they survived covid.-The staff is always very friendly and you never wait for anything.-The dining room could use a makeover, but it’s always very clean and it adds to the charm.-If you don’t finish your first bowl you can take it home. This makes for great leftovers. (The cooks love when you drop a dollar or two in the tip jar)-They also have a soft serve ice cream machine, which my daughter loves.-Good location, just next to the public parking lot.

This is the place to go for good service and indulgance at a great price. All you can eat with appetizers and a small bowl of egg flower soup and soft serve ice cream to finish. Know that this is not the authentic Chinese food that you think youll get in SF but a place you can take nearly anyone. Sums Mongolian Barbecue is the best Mongolian barbecue that Ive ever had. Even during covid and having them prepare it. They make it easy to order and they do a great job. I grew up in Auburn and loved Sums. Then I moved away and Ive tried other Mongolian barbecues but nothing compares. The sauces they use are incredibly delicious and I love the thick noodles. I hope everyone supports these guys and they never close down. I would cry for the rest of my life if I ever lost Sums.

The short version:Great service, good, fresh ingredients, I loved it!The full version:I found this place by accident and couldnt be happier that I did.The service was impeccable. My friend and I arrived 20 minutes before they opened for dinner, but the (manager? owner?) saw us at the door and let us know they werent ready but invited us in to find seats and set us up with our beverages and appetizers. The servers were attentive and efficient and we didnt wait for refills and were offered more rice when we needed it. I felt welcomed throughout the visit.The food was also excellent. We started with a simple egg flower soup that I enjoyed (Im not usually a fan, but I ate the whole bowl). And there was a plate of fried won tons with a drizzle of sweet and sour sauce. The rice was done properly.Mongolian is all about the ingredients on the buffet line. This one looked like there have been more choices in past (pre-COVID) times, but there was everything I had hoped for and more. All was fresh, all was clean, and even though I didnt pack my bowl, it made a hearty portion. Both lunch and dinner are all you can eat, so theres no reason to overfill anyway.I questioned their sauce plan at first, as following the instructions led to a bowl with more juice in it than I would have done without direction, but the result was close to perfect.Great job. I couldnt have been happier. Im already making plans to go back!

This is a true local classic and is widely regarded as one of the best restaurants in all of Auburn. It’s a casual place, but the service is top notch. The servers are extremely friendly and attentive. You rarely have to flag a server down, that’s how on top of it they are. The food is delicious, and even after some recent inflation induced price increases, Sum’s still delivers a good bang for your buck.

There arent enough synonyms in the English language to say how great this place is! The customer service was excellent and they are still making sure people stay at safe distances from each other. Hand sanitizer is available at the start of the line to prep your bowl. The food was fresh and all bins were full. I followed the suggested recipe for the house sauce and it did not disappoint. I have to go back now so that I can get a copy because its now my favorite!

I went in by myself the first time having you never been there, I really didnt know how it worked. Turns out its an all-you-can -eat buffet so you sit down you head to the line and I saw people just piling stuff on their plates and then you head to the big round grill, where the chef cooks it all up and puts it in the bowl for you. I suppose you can go back for seconds although I did not.They do give you some soup and some rice at your table. but the service was friendly and the place was packed and the food was pretty good

Very good! You go through a line and pick your meat, veggies, noodles and at the end they give you suggested sauce recipies but you can make it to your tastes. Was amazing! My only complaint was they cooked mine on the grill with another bowl and theirs was spicy and that made mine spicy but really its not bad, especially if youre aware of that before hand and ask them about it. The service was good and the staff friendly. Was kind of expensive- $12/ person but was worth it!

Ate here a few weeks ago, wonderful food and the owner was front and center taking orders, a very gracious gentleman. Well definitely be back again, highly recommend the kung pao sauce! UPDATE: last time I went they were takeout only, but theyre back to full service and I went again on Saturday, October 2, 2021 with a friend. If I could give this place 6 stars I would. The owner remembered me from 9 months ago, and he and his staff were happy to see us again and have us in for dinner. The food was great this time as well and it was nice to see lamb and broccoli available again. If youre in Auburn and youre hungry, go to Sums, you wont be disappointed!

By nature of Mongolian restraunts the food is largely dictated on your knowledge of ingredients and ratios you use. Despite my limited knowledge i somehow wound up mixing together a wonderful dinner. The food was great, the service was also great and friendly. The price is more than fair. The restaurant is in a fun part of town. I guess my one critique would be the restaurant could use some renovations but I had a great meal with family and look forward to going back.

Finally tried it and wont be rushing back. It seems kid friendly as they have the soft serve for dessert. The wok chefs were mopping when I went up and didnt wash their hands between mopping and cooking. I found the all you can eat thing confusing also as we were charged for all you can eat but then were only allowed one bowl. Also, note the giant wok chopsticks are set on the floor on the ends when not in use. Pretty gross. I like the old school decor. Reminded me of Chinese places in the 70s.

Stopped by for a solo dinner on a Saturday night recently. They didnt have too much seating that wasnt packed with groups but they were able to pull a table together for me in between the booths. Like most Mongolian grills, it was a fill your bowl full and they stir fry it up at the end of the line. The disappointment came with the limited or lacking selections of ingredients. They didnt have chicken, only one size of noodle (extremely large), and limited vegetables. Their chefs worked efficiently and cooked the food thoroughly. It was also a bit expensive considering it was dine in and not take away. The meal was good but I just wasnt left with a great impression to go above 3 stars.

We always have to jump around the ingredients to get them into the bowl better - other places have a better order for the food. This is the only Mongolian BBQ Ive been to that leaves such a large amount of liquid in the bowl. The sauces seem watered down, but if you add many scoops, it wont be so bland. I do like that the broccoli is blanched, and the meat quality seems nice. Free soft-serve (vanilla only), with sprinkles is included.

Dont forget to add garlic and hot sauce at the end which is separate from the ingredients line. Garlic on the right as youre facing the wheel. Sometimes I wake up screaming from nightmares of Sums closing. I grew up in Auburn and have lived in Idaho the last 11 years. Nothing compares to this Mongolian BBQ. The udon noodles, fresh ingredients, and amazing sauces havent changed since the first time I fell in love back in the mid 90s. If Im ever rich I will personally see that Sums never changes.

First off this not the first mongo bbq ive ever been to. But the two cooks with the giant chop sticks were the rudisst and unhappy people ever. They were reaching and grabbing at bowls while people were still putting garnishes on. Then they didnt say anything and looked at people like, i wish i could spit in your food.Man it was awful, then he would place your under cooked food on table nearest incoming bowls forcing you to swim back up the stream of people waiting to get food cooked. Pretty awful. DONT GO..
