Finally I found my spot ! The people greeted me with excitementThe server was passionate about the menu and so nice. THE FOOD! Was excellent. And the drink nigori is a must have. Thanks so much cant wait to return. Also the crispy rice spicy tuna is a must have. Then menu has so many options but they explain it well so you dont get overwhelmed

Doesn’t look like much from the outside but open those doors and you feel like you are in Japan.The chef was making jokes in Japanese ( I think they were jokes haha), made the food freshly and it tastes amazing.Must try the baked salmon!

Hanashi sushi doesnt pass the taste test. I ordered takeout, three rolls (Philadelphia, California, and a salmon avocado roll) for $38.55. Expensive sushi with no flavor or taste. Also, the fish wasnt fresh, in my opinion.The restaurant itself seems lovely and cozy, but there are far better options in Santa Monica; Noma sushi (10/10), Sugar fish, and many more.Im a big sushi lover and tried many places in the area. Unfortunately, I wont be back here.

Nice little sushi place! We found it by accident. Sushi rolls are tasty, the service good, and the food came quickly. I wish the portions were a bit bigger but otherwise a great find. Oh, and there is a robot dropping of food at the tables. For real - I’m not joking!

Really delicious and fresh sushi. We got the garlic edamame, shrimp shumai, and three rolls we ate before taking a picture of. We got the hanashi roll, spicy california with black rice (not bad), and a spicy eel shrimp tempura roll. So good! I will be coming back, it’s a perfect date spot.

When you look at the menu, realize that they have more pieces per handroll than most other sushi places Ive eaten at in this area, so while the prices in the menu are higher, the portion size is too.Be careful if you plan on buying more than 2, I usually get 3 and this time I had to take some home, its quite a lot!Its delicious!

Really good sushi for the price, which-admitedly- was not super cheap. But you get what you pay for. Really fast excellent service too. I only wish the happy hour special would have been clear to not be on Sunday. When I looked closer at the sign it was indeed there- Monday-Saturday but its in really small print. Oh well. If it would have been Sunday too Id have ordered more food though, because quality of service and food was pretty excellent. Just slightly dissapointed that I couldnt have had more. Would definitely recommend if youre in the area an want some fast good food. But get in during happy hour (I think it was 3-5) for a really good deal.

Not the most authentic sushi, but there are so many different creative varieties so I wont complain. I had the same experience as some people mentioned in their review which the waiter didnt give you enough attention and ignore you. It took me 5 calls and my waiter still took 2 phone calls(for the restaurant) and another two orders from other customers to finally talk to me. Overall a good experience for some different sushi rolls especially during happy hours.Btw, it seems like this place is pretty understaffed, only one server for 17 people!

Service is pretty good except for the beginning because they dont pay attention to you. The beef teriyaki isnt really how japanese teriyaki tastes. Teriyaki is supposed to be grilled not boiled so, the meat is not tough. The rice was warm and hard. Its like the rice came out of the microwave. The tempura was okay, but the daikon or whatever vegetavle it was- was not good. The tempura sauce was from the bottle. They have so much expensive sake on the wall but they cannot make a decent tempura sauce. The meal was cold. My familys food was cold when it got to the table. Chicken and or any meat is supposed to be hot when it gets to the table but this places serves it just warm then it will soon turn cold. The salad was ok, but it could have been executes better than what we got. The sushi was not that bad but could be better, but the kitchen plates were bad. For the people in the reviews who said this is authentic japanese food is absolutely wrong. This IS not japanese food- not even close. The atmosphere of this restaurant is very different. It feels like a club with a stports bar thing. Not really a place to have kids walking aroynd because of the electronic music blasting and one of the sushi chefs, if thats you may call them, singing. I did not know i went to a karaoke bar. No one is really watching tv because they are not playing the prime games of the night. Finally the check was way more than what we would have thought. I could understand because of the three sushi rolls we had, but really with the price of the entrees and the rolls.

Great prices on happy hour for the location!Edit: visited again today: 6/14 and most likely will not be back.. service has gotten downgraded considerably since my last visit and took over 40 minutes just to get my water or any kind of sushi we initially ordered. There was only two tables there besides my table. they really need to ask the customer if there is anything else before their happy hour ends(last call). Only ordered 2 rolls and was not able to order again because they took so long giving me my first rolls...very sad... This place used to be the spot. Can see why there was hardly anyone in there during happy hour. From 4 stars to 2. Not 1 star just because the food is still pretty good but this was a bad experience after waiting so long and they didnt seem to want to make it right for us. Left the establishment not completely full, and pretty disappointed.

I’ve ordered online from this sushi bar multiple times, maybe 5 or 10. Combo B is my favorite position for lunch, it’s more than enough for 1 person.Today I visited this place with my friend as I wanted to try a special Hanashi course for two. Super fresh sashimi, huge portions, very fair prices, lovely service. I can’t decide what was the best dish of the course. Yellowtail and salmon melt in your mouth and are very flavourful. I will definitely return and I’ve been recommending this place to my friends and colleagues.

A hidden gem. Well maybe it was just hidden to me, but I’ve found it now and I’m so happy I did. Located on busy Lincoln blvd., the inside is cozy and warm. The staff is kind and efficient. The food is delicious!My go to roll is the Santa Monica Roll. But everything they have on the menu I’ve tried so far is very tasty!

Absolutely terrible service and subpar rolls. I kindly asked for a roll replacement because the roll was covered in tempura beyond what is acceptable. It was like getting Katsu. Waiter’s words: “since there is nothing wrong with the roll we can’t replace it.” I’ve never heard anyone say that. Never again :(

Horrible customer service. They were extremely rude and discriminatory towards me and my friends. We were seated for about 8 minutes before we were given menus or even chopsticks and the restaurant was practically empty. Another couple who came in after us were given their food by the time we got out straws for our water. The woman who was serving us continually was rolling her eyes and was practically slapping the table when picking up the menus, we left shortly after. Would not recommend :(

They seemed confused that we had ordered in the first place, and gave us a very vague estimate.The sushi was good for the price but the takoyaki had NO mayonnaise, no bonito flakes, etc, they were JUST the dough balls with squid inside. Even though I was wearing a mask, it smelled like someone soiled their pants. 🤢Thought for a moment maybe it was my breath :-) but when I walked out the smell subsided. Excellent sushi! stopped in eith family. I ordered Monkey Ball (made without rice) which were very large (in diameter) pieces. Maybe 1.5 times bigger than normal sushi. We all enjoyed our fare and shared one or two pieces of each others. Again very tasty and enjoyable.We were able to sit immediately and we were promptly served.

First time here...and my last. I should have known when I asked for sesame seeds on my roll and she said they dont have sesame seeds, first time I ever saw that at a Japanese restaurant. I ordered a blue crab (real crab) Cali roll. While I was waiting outside for my to go order, I saw the sushi chef open a can of something and I hoped it was not crab! When I got home to eat it, it was fishy, not like crab and it was only avocado & canned crab! My tempura was okay, however they did not close the lid on the dipping sauce and it leaked out making soggy, so not good. If I lived closer I would have gone back for a refund.

This is my first review and I felt the need to inform everyone about this AMAZING place! Whenever my husband and I come to Santa Monica, getting dinner here is A MUST. Our first visit was during COVID last year. Even for to-go their packaging is so secure, sushi always tastes fresh, and their presentations are beautiful. Food is affordable and absolutely delicious!! Everyone is so friendly and generous there too. We’ve been to a couple sushi spots in Santa Monica and this one is our favorite. I have been here quite a few times for lunch. The staff is very friendly. Chef Phil prepares the rolls quite nicely and actually interacts with the guests on a more personal level which makes it all the more welcoming. Only been here for lunch so seating is never a problem.

Main course(sashimi+ sushi) is fresh and portion is huge. Softshell crab roll is superb. Would recommend this place for anyone visiting Santa Monica from Canada. Love ya!

This place is usually crowded because it is obvious they care about their food. Happy hour starts at 3pm and the place opens at noon. On this trip, I tried the volcano roll, caterpillar, spicy tuna, and the popcorn langostino. I will try toro next time. I ordered takeout from here and they completely messed up a super easy order. I ordered an avocado roll and cucumber roll and they sent me the wrong items. You also are charged $1 extra for them to cut the roll. I ordered iced green tea and instead got some sort of mixed matcha powder drink.All in all I ordered two vegetable rolls, iced green tea, and a small miso soup. It arrived after an hour and a half, was wrong, and not as advertised.

Bad customer service. After paying and leaving a tip I was asked about the tip amount I left by the waitress and was told by her she was expecting 15%. Not anywhere in the restaurant or receipt does it state that there is a mandatory 15% tip to be left. Definitely not worth coming back. Owner needs to rethink about the staff he hires if he wants customers to come back.

Inside ambitions! The small sushi bar doesnt look like much from the outside, but it is very nicely furnished and was well stocked even on weekday evenings. The two waiters seemed a little overwhelmed. Really good sushi at reasonable LA prices. Various vegetarian sushi variations, appetizers and pasta dishes available. Unfortunately, the Salomon Cut Roll contained almost nothing but fried salmon skin.

The location is objectively bad, and from the outside the place looks like a dive that doesnt promise anything good. Luckily things are improving inside, the decor is simple but pleasant and the staff (real Japanese) are kind and accommodating. The sushi offering is very wide, and the dishes I tried were all good even if not the best I have ever eaten. You pay the right amount and leave satisfied, but it is not an unforgettable place.
