Food is good, service is fine.But this place forces tips, it’s predefined when checking out.Just to make it clear, I am okay with tip, I will probably even pay more than the predefined amount (18%), but I am not happy with mandatory tip.

I recently stopped by Sushi Ichimoto with high hopes of satisfying my sushi craving, but unfortunately, the experience left much to be desired. While the atmosphere was pleasant and they boasted an appealing party room for an authentic Japanese experience, the overall quality fell short.To start, the service was disappointingly slow. Despite the restaurant not being overly busy, it took a considerable amount of time to be greeted and seated. Whats more, there was an unnecessary push for us to order the BBQ option, which we decided to try. However, this order seemed to have vanished into thin air, as we never received it. We had to specifically request its removal from the bill once it finally arrived.The food itself appeared promising, but the execution did not live up to expectations. The sushi lacked the freshness and quality that one would anticipate. Its unfortunate that the potential of the cuisine wasnt fully realized.In summary, while Sushi Ichimoto offers an inviting ambiance and the potential for an authentic Japanese experience, the slow service, missing order, and underwhelming food quality ultimately overshadowed the positives. I hope the management takes these aspects into consideration and makes improvements to enhance the overall dining experience.

Food was pretty good, ordered the chefs special sushi but got sashimi. It was still good, but some people cant eat the straight fish. Everything else was fine and fairly priced. Felt bad for the staff because there was some crazy dude that walked in but I didnt let that affect my review.

Understaffed team on a busy night. We had reservations do we were able to get our table on time. There were only 2 waiters on a busy Saturday night. It took over 20 minutes to get our order for drinks in. The waiters were scrambling from table to table. Food was good. We ordered several dishes and were satisfied with the quality of the food. The service was just too slow. They really need to hire a 3 waiter.

Came here last Saturday to use the Groupon. Rolls are pretty good and large. Double salmon was by far my favorite roll (furthest left). We ordered 4 rolls for the two of us and there was plenty to bring home.

5-Star Plus! This is a must if you enjoy Sushi. The quality and portions are absolutely some of the very best you can find. We wanted to try some Saki, but being unfamiliar, Christina let us know a out the Saki Tasting. We found our favorite Saki to order next time! We enjoyed a Rainbow Roll and the Sushi & Sashimi Platter.

The service at this place was TERRIBLE! Never once did they walk around and asked if we were doing ok, and they never refilled our waters! BUT THE FORCED US TO GIVE 15% tips? $10 worth of tips for what????? What service did we get?? Taking orders and service is a part of their job so what other service did we get??The lady with the pony tail even circled the tips section and said “just tell me which choice you want, 15%-22%” !!!I thought tips were suppose to be free will, as in the customer gives how ever much reflected up the service that they received. Isn’t this just forcing people to give them money??

My order was ready faster than expected.They had anime paintings all over the restaurant but they painted over it 😤I ordered the spicy hamachi, has a lot of flavor for $6 it’s a great deal and is my favorite no soy sauce needed.The 49ers roll has salmon and lemon on top and avocado and cucumber and tobiko inside is good with soy sauce.The cherry blossom roll has tuna sashimi with crab and avocado topped with tobiko(caviar) tastes really good.Overall I had a great experience here and will be added to my go to sushi places.

Tonight is our anniversary and we have decided to make it special.We have a usual spot where we normally get sushi, because of the pandemic, we wanted to order locally so we dont have to drive far.We chose Sushi Ichimoto and boy, it was totally worth it!Not only was the presentation on point, it was also pretty (highly recommended for all foodies who love to post on IG). The sashimi was extremely fresh and I could taste the fish swimming in my mouth. Their fried oysters were so fresh that I can still taste it just thinking about it. Their rolls were just spot on and will certainly fill up every inch of your stomach.If you are looking to celebrate, or just craving for sushi, look no further, this is the spot for YOU!

I use to go here all the time when it was Rays Sushi but wow this place is much better. The staff was wonderful and was on top of there game. We also got free ice cream for the kids such a friendly staff. I would recommend this place for big groups or just a date night such an awesome environment. Our family went to sushi ichimoto on 9/4/23 @8:15pm. We were seated and handed drinks before 3 other groups of people started to come in. The guy waiter did not even check on us, instead he went to the table that came after us to take their orders. The lady waitress also went to the other 2 tables to take their orders as well, leaving us waiting. It was late and we did not want to wait longer for our orders to be put in, therefore we got up to leave. As we got up, the guy waiter came over and I told him that he should have taken our orders when we came first. He just said “fine”, no sorry whatsoever. Our family usually come get for sushi, but after this incident, we will have to go somewhere else.I’m hoping the owner sees this comment and ask his servers to be more courteous to their customers next time.

It was our first time here, loved everything. The food is five star and so does the ambience and service. We had chicken katsu, salmon teriyaki. Both were so delicious. The serving size is huge for chicken teriyaki and it’s so flavorful. It comes with side of rice, salad, and miso soup. The place is clean and servers are very nice. They offer you with complimentary edamame. The lychee tea was ok and my boyfriend loved his oyster and seaweed salad. I want to go back again and try different food.

From the outside, it looks like a little hole in the wall but opens up to an inviting modern sushi restaurant. The service was terrific and the manger has the best hospitality. I ordered the fried hamachi, oyster Rockefeller style, fusion avacado, and baked lobster roll. Food is delicious and filling and definitely worth the price. I will be visiting here again.

We were visiting from El Paso TX and were staying at the Hotel across the street. We headed out to find lunch and decided to give it a try. So glad we did. The best sushi we have ever had. The garlic edamami was amazing. Even their water is cucumber & lemon infused. Amazing people ❤️ and service. It was so good we went back for dinner the last night of our stay.Definitely recommend!

We stopped by this little place for lunch on a long drive. It was great! Outside of the restaurant there was cute artwork of characters, and the overall ambience inside was calm. The dragon roll we ordered was delicious. The salad in the teriyaki bento box had a little too much salad dressing in the salad, but everything else was really yummy! We had a great meal for a good price, I would recommend.

This place was a hidden gem.Never judge ones character from its environment. In an armpit of a shopping area, Sushi Ichimoto is an unexpected surprise. Inside is very calm and warm with its colors and setting. At 5:30p i was the first before more and more people started to come in. The two servers we very kind and attentive. The bar chefs were a bit distracted with the games playing on the big screen, but once i was served, that only described to me as, distraction..The sushi and sashimi combo that i got was prepared simply and beautifully but there was quite a couple redundancies in the dish. In my photo, the nigiri 1st 2nd and 4th pairings were also the sashimi choices. The Salmon i didnt mind because that is my favorite fish. The 3rd pairing (fatty tuna?) omg, that was on point! That was the only jorney i was taken on in the dish. I cannot knock on the quality on what was served. Every single piece had full flavor and had such a sizable portion. The spicy tuna rolls were twice the size of a quarter. So the portions are generous.Bathroom is clean, no falling apart, and more modern. The only gripe i have with environment, that i pushed aside to an understanding one, is the 1st table walking in. That is their togo setup with all the bags and boxes and utensils just really throws off the modern look they have. I think its still there since the start of covid and just hasnt moved for the sake of staff convenience.I think im being generous with 5☆. This restaurant definitely has potential to be really great and to get in touch with its community again. Even their facebook has lost touch as of today 11/28/2022, I mean no photo posts since 2016? One visit and i already believe in this restaurant. And i will be visiting again.

The first few times i ordered i was happy with the food but that definitely changed. I normally order take out for convenience and because its nearby. in one instance I ordered online and I get to the restaurant and my order wasnt even ready. Apparently they hadnt even begun to prepare it, they canceled and were not clear as to why. I was at the restaurant already so I waited 20 more minutes. The quality wasnt the best considering the price Im paying. I figured maybe an off day.I order again a different day the food was ok. I honestly feel I can get better quality at the same price somewhere else. I dont mind paying high prices for sushi its a given that it can be pricey but you pay for quality, and I dont see the quality.I have posted a review in the past but I believe it was removed not sure why.. it was not offensive or disrespectful just honest and my issue was never addressed by the owner its been close to 6 months since i posted that. this review was about their dessert.... I really enjoy cheesecake its my favorite so if I can order sushi and cheesecake at a restaurant Im excited!But I wasnt excited to see what I paid for.I ordered one slice to try I get home and I see the tiniest slice it was literally 2 bites at most. This place has survived the pandemic quite well. Now that dine in is available, its back to the dining pleasure of the good food I used to know.As expected, prices have gone up and the rice bowls have shrunk but thats okay. Their bento boxes are still full of the good food I used to love.Will probably come back to try our other favorites as before. Then maybe that extra star I gave this review may stay. We shall see.

Very tasty, BUT definitely NOT authentic. I have 2 serious complaints that would make any discerning Japanese customer throw their chopsticks down and march angrily out the door...#1- There was a bone in my sushi. A fatal error that almost made me chip a tooth. Any authentic sushi chef worth his salt would commit HARAKIRI 腹切り over this. Also, the cuts of fish were WAY too thick.#2- The service staff fell far short of the 癒し系なおもてなし IYASHIKEINA OMOTENASHI that one would DEMAND at any authentic Japanese owned and operated establishment.And herein lay the problem... As far as I could tell all of the staff were Chinese, and as a consequence they were fast and sloppy in their food preparation, transactional in their service approach, and the loud Chinese being spoken by the staff made this restaurant far from authentic in my Japanese-educated opinion.HOWEVER, the food was tasty. It ran a thin line between authentic Japanese and Americanized sushi. I think most Americans would not mind fast and sloppy, because many of us are guilty of this too, and most cannot differentiate between Japanese and Chinese service styles and language, and however too thick the slices of fish were, I think many American clientele would welcome this as added value.For most in Hayward, CA, USA, I think they would be above the moon with the food and service, but if they were in Tokyo, Japan, there would be no shortage of dissatisfied customers out the door and around the corner. Abysmal in-restaurant dining experience. To call it slow service would be to imply that there was any service at all. We walked in, ordered drinks and appetizers. Told them we’d need a minute for our entree order. Drinks came. Didn’t take our entree order. 40 minutes later one of our two apps came. No other tables were being served, at least in the main room. It looked like there were back rooms that were being served, but we watched two other tables walk out without even having their orders taken. Truly awful. Will not return.

With a less than acceptable experience ordering for delivery around dinner time, earlier this year, during COVID lock down, we decided to give the restaurant delivery another shot. We are so glad we did!We ordered 2 chicken teriyaki bento boxes with California roll and tempura, an extra California roll, and miso soup. The food arrived hot and everything was super fresh and delicious. The pricing of the items and quantity of food provided is an excellent value.We have always liked the restaurant for dining in and this time, the delivered items arrived with the same quality as we expect when dining in.Sushi Ichimoto is a must if you want high quality sushi and other items at reasonable prices! I went here tonight and I was blown away by how good the food and service was. Ive been eating sushi for years but this was - surprisingly - the best sushi and service I have ever had! The rolls were large and tasty, served on individual platters. The portion sizes were very generous - I had to take some home with me! The service was great. The place was busy but I was seating quickly, served promptly, and the food came very fast after ordering! My hot sake was served in a tea kettle of steaming water to keep it hot and delicious - and one of the servers was usually there to refill my sake glass as soon as I finished it off, despite the restaurant being very busy! When I was done, I had leftovers, and the server took and boxed them up for me, returned with a bag to carry them in. On my way out, no less than five staff members thanked me for coming and wished me a good evening. Overall experience was excellent and I very much look forward to returning. I just moved to San Francisco this week, and have quickly found my all time favorite sushi place!

Went in because of the fun artwork on the store front and stayed for the great food. Some dishes impressed more than others but nothing was bad. Prices were very competitive although I would hesitate to call it cheap. Rolls averaged $9-11 and were each at least 6 pieces. If youre going to go check it out, the lamb chop appetizer is a must. Trust me on this one. You will not regret it.

Fish quality is good, but presentation of rolls is soulless, looks like made by someone who doesnt think rolls are real food. Fish sliced not professionally, not even, should be specific size and weight. Minus 1 star. Rice was a bit overcooked, pieces of rolls were cut uneven, each piece cannot stand by itself, minus another star. Taste in general is good, plus saving few $, speed is amazing, I believe they can improve. I would recommend it for sure.

Very disappointing! Party of 4; salmon teriyaki and sushi were good, 2 Tonkatsu dinners were horrible. They were so dry and tough they were inedible.A meal compensation was offered, but not given. We were given 1 scoop of ice cream instead which hardly compares to $34.We wont be back. This was my dads bday celebration and he couldnt eat his meal. Too much focus was on grub hub and take out. The dine in customers definitely suffered as a result. There are much better places to spend your money.

Sushi is my favorite food and I ate here with my favorite person, who happens to be a talented chef. He gushed endlessly about the particular cut of his fish, showcasing the chefs precise knife skills, before shoving it all in his face. The perfect roll of fish -rice harmony I had going on in my face satisfied all my senses. If you want good food, you have to Value good food - as in - take all my money Sushi Ichimoto cause this is damn good food! This is the best sushi restaurant Ive been to in a long time! I was on a business trip in the area and I wanted to find somewhere that had a good review and had a chefs choice. Even though I dont live anywhere near here I will make it a point to come back! Jackie knows what he is doing, Gabriel is an excellent chef, and Sonny is learning and has a great personality and excellent customer service skills!The food. . . Muscle memory brought us to this place which used to be Rays sushi.Firstly, seemed like online orders override dining-in. I live in San Jose, and go to Hayward just for this restaurant. I also LOVE their Teriyaki Chicken, which comes with rice, a salad, and soup. The lemonades are delicious aswell.Their staff is extremely hospitable and welcoming. Especially this one aging gentlemen who always has a smile on his face. He is extremely funny, and he makes me and my accompanies feel like we belong there.Wait time is typically about 10 - 20 minutes, but for their food, I could a whole day.Their restaurant is always clean, although the restrooms could use some help. The artwork in that place is absolutely beautiful, with different Japanese characters painted on the walls. Sushi is good here, and they offer a Sushi Boat! The boat is Amazing, and every piece of fish is good, and they also have rooms for large groups, and its pretty cool. You have to take your shoes off because its a Japanese setting, where your actually only sitting on a pillow laid on the floor. The service is really good here, and they are very nice even when its so packed with customers. They also have regular seating as well, and the place is decorated pretty nice.

I went here for a friends birthday party with a pretty large group, about 15 people. The service was great. We had our own private room. The room was interesting. We were required to take off our shoes like most japanese traditional restaurants, but in stead of sitting on our knees or cross our legs Indian style, our table was circular built into the ground. Just check it out, it is hard to explain. Basically we sat confortably in the room and didnt have to kneel.Food was good. We had too many dishes to name, but the Lion King was delicious and the sashimi was very fresh. I particularly liked the smoked salmon and spicy tuna. The menu has an array of food to choose from with sons of the freshest fish for their sashimi. I usually go for the raw food but today ordered a bento box with shrimp tempura and sashimi. Cooked perfectly and tempura wasnt overly breaded. Kids ate rice and miso soup, while the teen ate the chirashi bowl. All equally fantastic in their own. We have been going to this place back when it was called Rays Sushi. I changed hand. It has declined over the years. The prices have gone through the roof with absolutely no improvement in the quality of the food. On the contrary it has gone worse significantly. Sashimi cuts are now half the size of what they used to be. Nigiri fish is also become thinner and now a sliver of fish. In the sashimi platter they have started to include fish like super white tunawhich actually a very cheap fish called Escolar. This fish is actually banned in Japan. It will give your horrible stomach problem.The traditional rolls are now filled with the cheap artificial crab and very little of anything else.
