Decent sushi spot in Studio City!Frankly, the place is very popular but crammed up with seating and mediocre service at best. Both servers juggling our table didn’t really seem to be in a good mood…Some of the fish quality was quite good but the craftsmanship and attention to detail was minimal… mediocre cuts, mediocre presentation, and mediocre taste overall. With such a visual form of cuisine I would prefer a bit more elegance in plating or higher quality textures. If you’re looking for the best sushi around, maybe go elsewhere, but it’s worth mentioning the nice variety of Japanese cuisine on the menu. Definitely passable, but not memorable. Might make for a good group meal if you have different preferences all around! Unfortunately this place isn’t somewhere I’d come back to with the wealth of options nearby.

Popular sushi spot in Studio City. Service is good, you get served by a whole team instead of one server. Which is not a big deal but different. They were busy and perhaps that was why service was not particularly attentive today (no drink refill offer and one waiter handed us the wrong food, perhaps it was because we were in the overflow seating outside, but we handed our neighbor’s yellowtail handroll order to them)Food was delicious and not too pricey for what you get, though for the hype, I was expecting the fish to taste more fresh. The ikura didn’t taste like ikura I was used to, sometimes the way you store ikura can drain the flavor. Not super sure..The atmosphere though was definitely great and you can feel the excitement and great energy inside. If you’re looking for a place to have a nice meal with friends or family in a fun spot, you will have a great time ☺️

Sushi Katsu-Ya is worth the visit! The fish they served was so fresh and delicious. I couldnt believe how many different options they had on the menu, from classic rolls to udon. But let me tell you, the specials they offered were out of this world! I personally loved the Chirashi bowl. Id say the chefs really knows their stuff. And heres the crazy part, considering how good everything was, they should definitely be charging more. Its a hidden gem that every sushi lover needs to try. Trust me, you wont be disappointed!

This restaurant is a go to. Stop the debating, the pondering. Go here. It was exceptional in every single way. I have eaten a lot of Japanese food and in LA this will always be my go to. The food was AMAZING! My family asked the sushi bar employee named Mario to give us whatever his favorites happened to be. He served us an incredible selection of sushi and sashimi that were all devoured in minutes. I ordered the udon dish for myself. Ive never had Udon but I wanted to try it as all the other food sp far had been amazing. I was not disappointed at all. It was savory and perfect in the cooler weather. Pieces of chicken, lettuce, and egg all came together beautifully. The noodles were soft and wonderful. The dish was amazing. Go here and come here often!Edit: I wanted to also write how detailed and how much time and effort Mario put into each of the rolls he made. He truly is one of the most amazing workers Ive ever met anywhere.

Stumbled upon this place while in the area craving sushi. We had reservations for my daughters birthday dinner but the restaurant canceled on us and we had to find someplace else to eat. Katsu-ya did not disappoint. Parking was limited so we used the $8 valet. We were seated immediately without a reservation. Our server gave great recommendations, and was very thoughtful about my shellfish allergy. We enjoyed everything! We started with the fresh halibut with ponzu, spicy tuna on crispy rice and bluefin tuna were amazing, we ordered a variety of sushi cut rolls and hand rolls. At the end of dinner the staff sang happy birthday to my daughter. We will definitely be back when in LA!

Food was fresh and absolutely delicious. Recommend trying everything especially the popcorn shrimp and lobster on the half shell. We thought we couldnt eat anymore but getting the lobster proved us wrong. Thoughts of the topping still make my mouth water. Enjoy

My husband and I came to this classic date spot for his birthday recently, and Im happy to report that the quality has not declined in the ten years weve been going there. Weve lived out of town for a few years now and did a serious sushi tour. Katsu-Ya was for sure a competitor for number one. We had ice-cold Sapporo drafts, spicy shishito peppers, some fresh, classic nigiri, the legendary spicy tuna crispy rice, the worlds best baked crab hand roll, and a rainbow roll. Everything was impeccable, the service was flawless, and we were even able to get a last-minute reservation, which kept us from having to wait like we always used to. Even the prices were surprisingly reasonable. Katsu-Ya Studio City, never change!

Came pretty close to closing but was accommodated well. Price is not bad for sushi, especially the entrees. Miso black cod is delicious, very tender. Even the house salad is pretty good, has these nice fried crispy bits in it. Be aware there is no complex parking, valet is $10.

This is a busy restaurant so plan on a wait or phone in a reservation. The sushi bar is always packed. Friendly service and attentive. The food was appetizing and flavorful. We had the Albacore Onion (pictured), a staple here, the Crispy Rice Tuna (their signature dish), the Robert Roll and the very tasty Baked Crab Hand Roll. A must go to dining experience!
