We are so excited to say that a great sushi place has opened close to us! The best fatty tuna youve ever had. Thick, buttery...so good. The eel just melted in your mouth, and the eel sauce is more mild than your typical super-sweet eel sauce. The presentation was beautiful. Service was incredibly friendly. The decor is very clean and minimalistic. What an awesome place!! Cant wait to come back!

We were walking at The River, and stumbled across this new sushi restaurant. What a great find! Amazing rolls and service. Sushi was fresh with amazing presentations! Not very crowded earlier in the evening, but started to fill up when we were leaving. I definitely recommend this restaurant if you are in the Rancho Mirage area!
Great service and quite good sushi for the Valley! The chef was quite accommodating to food allergies and special requests, and we enjoyed the variety of flavors between our rolls. Each individual super roll was definitely enough for one person to eat and be satisfied.
Food was delicious but service was subpar.We went there for dinner the day before thanksgiving with wife, mom and mother in law.The restaurant was not very big and have limited seatings. We had made reservation so didn’t need to wait but it seemed that most tables are reserved and they had to turn away any wall-in’s while we were there.The sushi was delicious and well plated. They even have a tablet at each table so you can see the pictures before ordering. I really enjoyed the salmon belly sashimi, it was super fresh and smooth when you bite into it (like butter 🧈 melting right into your mouth). We also ordered some specialty rolls which were all nicely prepared.The ingredients were super fresh which is crucial for any good sushi restaurant.However the service was not as good as the food. The waitress forgot how many orders have been serviced and had to check with us midway. Also they don’t speak very good English so that added another layer of complexity in communication.Overall food was great but service can be improved, hence four star.
Spacious restaurant with fun plates and displays. We ordered several sushi rolls and each one hit the spot. The service we experienced was fast and attentive. Only thing wed change is to come here with a bigger appetite so we could enjoy more of the menu. Baby friendly. Easy parking.

Incredible. Absolutely everything we ordered was incredible! I ordered the King Kong Roll and my husband ordered the Spicy Tuna roll- both A+ sushi and beautifully presented. We also ordered miso and edamame and they were excellent. We will be back and encourage you to try it!! Everyone welcome us and everyone working here were so polite and genuinely kind.
Overpriced, terrible quality, terrible atmosphere. We were deceived by the high rating of this restaurant. Save your money and don’t go here. The fish was not fresh and was clearly not sushi quality fish. Prices were more than top NYC sushi restaurants. $17 for a plain sushi roll that was 90% cold rice & 10% ground up fish. The food was not edible. They made their rolls spicy by drowning a salmon roll in an immense amount of chili powder.

The food was delicious and they gave us some on the house as well. The service was great and they have very nice and calm staff. The waiter moved us to a bigger table for our party. The atmosphere is very relaxing with candles and fancy music. The food comes creativitly decorated and also comes with pots of flowers for the table. They also gave my friend ice cream for her birthday and did sing a bit as well. Im glad I tried new food and it was really good!!!

One of the best sushi restaurants in the valley. The fish is very fresh, the rolls are made incredibly well, and the staff are super kind. Its never very crowded. Its a hidden gem.
This is actually located near Ben & Jerrys on the other side of the cinema but for some reason shows as inside Cheesecake Factory on Google Maps. This made it difficult to find.When I told the waitress I was a little confused by the menu she offered no help and walked away, which was weird. Also the prices on the menu arent the same as on the tick sheet for your order, which is confusing. We ordered tea which was served in paper takeaway cups, and the chopsticks are disposable which is not what I expect at a restaurant when dining in. On the plus side the food was good and service (aside from that one snag) was friendly. The meal was around 50 per person.
Omg!!! The best sushi we have ever had so fresh and flavorful. The owners are amazing the make the dinning experience so fun. They are welcoming and funny and really make you feel at home. We had to go back the next day as we are everything before pictures could be taken. You know must be good when the lpga women go there for a meal after poppy pond. We will be back everytime we are in Palm springs!!!!
First time here, we came from Los Angeles as a pit stop to charge our Tesla. The aesthetic is so cute, our server was amazing. And the food. Presentation 10/10. We ordered the Philadelphia roll with salmon and the salmon was exceptionally fresh. The edamame was quite spicy and really good! The Shrimp tempura was okay. Dumplings are also super good!!! Will come back to eat 😌

Best sushi in the valley in my opinion! I had many good sushi before and tried a lot of sushi restaurants in the valley. Everything I ordered today was absolutely delicious. People there’re very friendly as well! Hope one day they’ll have enough budget to elevate their interior design to match the quality of the food and service. Definitely would go back often.

Had a wonderful birthday dinner here with my husband! Smooth piano jazz for a night of delicious rolls and tempura—toro (the best part of the tuna!), real crab California (amazing and a very generous amount of crab), and my husbands favorite yellowtail with jalapeño over some more crab (Hama Hama roll). Hands down the best dining experience I’ve had in awhile.

Ordered 2 Hamachi 1 bluefin and an FBI rollOnly 1 Hamachi 1 bluefin fbi roll sentCouldnt get refunded because Uber eats is trash, so that isnt the restaraunts issue- but the order mistake IS, unfortunately.Edit post reply I will stop by at some point. It is just the 11 for Hamachi. Sushi was excellent for what its worth, I dont know how to contact you but I am Justin will not be able to make it tomorrow as I work at Penske in Montebello tomorrow.

The environment is so attentive and inviting. We arrived upon opening and chose a table that would accommodate my husbands back pain. No judgements held as I asked for a fork due to my hand mobility issues. The freshness of all fish, bluefin tuna, yellowtail, even the quality of the spicy tuna and the squid, superb! Attention to detail when it comes to presentation and execution of their dishes is *chefs kiss. Sushi in the Coachella valley is a rare commodity, the freshness is appreciated. Only complaint is I love my wasabi to burn and the wasabi here was okay. Must ask for the fresh wasabi. But I understand Rancho Mirage clientele, as a chef myself.I’ll be visiting more often. Thank you for the hospitality and yummy deliciousness!

Food is too overpriced for what you get. I love sushi and this is one of the weaker restaurants in terms of quality. I feel it may be expensive because rent at the river is expensive.

The kindest and cutest sushi spot in town!We may have been those obnoxious tourists who placed an order for 20 people (not ahead of time), and they had our food out in less than 40 minutes. They gave us some sake on the house to keep us company during our wait.The rolls were massive portions, and they were totally worth the prices. I would definitely come back for a date night and split a few things next time!

Decided to try this place for the first time. Got there on Sunday at around 5:30 . There were only about five tables, but only one person running around. Waited to be seated, no one acknowledged us until finally the sushi chef said to just sit anywhere. Sat down for awhile, still no one gave us menus or acknowledged us, finally my husband had to go and ask for menus. We have no problem waiting a bit, but at least give us menus to look at, while they finish their other tasks on hand. We finally placed our orders, and had to ask for our water again when he brought us the food. Bad thing is, after another lady showed up shortly after 6:00 to help, we still had no service, with empty cups and sat there until we finally had to wave the lady down to get our check, so we can get out of there. Sushi was good, but the poor service just ruined everything. They need to be more efficient. Had same sushi else where, so won’t be back here again.
Im not sure if the other reviewers have just never had sushi before or what is going on. Maybe this is just how sushi is in this area? Everything is smothered in sickly sweet sauce, crispy rice is regular rice on a sweet cracker, rolls are massive, unwieldy mushy things. We couldnt eat the eel without removing it from the handroll and wiping off the sauce. Fish was okay on freshness, oysters were large.As for service, we had to ask multiple times for the check and we were out of water almost the entire meal until we finally asked for more at the end. We were served the wrong item TWICE. There was only 1 waitress and 1 runner for the whole place, which clearly wasnt sufficient for a slow Tuesday night.Top all of that off at a whopping $75 per person and my wife didnt eat her food. Took her to Five Guys after the meal. Wont be trying anymore sushi in the Valley, thats for sure, and were from Chicago - not a place famous for its sushi.

Waiter didn’t get our order until about 15 minutes. He got my wife’s order but didn’t come back for mine. I ordered uni (was not available) and Ramen (not available). I was told after about 10 minutes. A female got my new order. I followed up my wife’s order with the male waiter, HE FORGOT!!! After 15 minutes wagyu beef came….. too salty. My wife didn’t finish it. Bad experience. Took us about 2 hrs. I ordered food to go next door and done in 15 minutes. We love to eat and wanted to try a new place. Bad decision. Probably I was just unlucky because other reviews were good. For me, never again. I’ll stick to Misaki and Okura. I would have given a no star if there is.

Not what I expected. Very expensive for mediocre sushi. They put parmesan cheese on my baked muscles! Such a weird, but not in a good way, taste. The rolls were over-priced and the entrees were small. The only thing I liked was the cold water and the sailor caps the servers wore.

Food was delicious, prices werent bad service was good. I only have 1 issue with this place, my wife and I ordered the King Crab roll. Roll comes with Wagyu(obviously not Japanese Wagyu) on top and a King crab leg. It was a small snow crab cluster we got that was missing legs and the crab was so over cooked it had some toughness to it. Everything else was great. We came for sushi and we enjoyed our sushi. We will be returning but wont be ordering King crab lol

We stumbled across this gem before going to the movie theatre and we are so glad we did! They were so welcoming. We chose a seat at the bar which was very comfortable and the chef greeted us soon after we sat. The food was delicious to say the least. Based on the review, I know many customers and residents interested in this restaurant. Currently, the restaurant owner couldnt notice a specific date to open since the government official permit and license keep getting delayed. However, the owner is trying to research and prepare good quality foods to give luxury service. I havent met this type of boss who receives feedback from students and other coworkers. I believe the boss is a great leader to operate this restaurant. I wish the customers give feedback to the owner gently more once the restaurant opens, so the restaurant grows up together with excellent customer service in this town.Best of luck!
This is the best sushi place I have been to in the desert! Quality of food, service, and atmosphere were unbeatable. The chefs were so personable and also the woman in the white shirt! We had a blast here and the food was certainly the cherry on top of a perfect dining experience.

Unfortunately, the food and service was subpar. Rolls are covered in extremely sweet sauce and are mostly fake crab. After waiting for a while we had to ask to be served water twice and generally received inattentive service. We were served the wrong item twice as well
The place was clean, The staff was friendly, and the food was wonderful. Don’t let the strip mall look fool you, it’s the real deal. The chef (owner?) was very personable and friendly. My order took a couple minutes longer than expected which is no big deal and he apologized for the wait. They have a good thing going there and I can see it being a local hot spot. They have only been open for 3 Motörhead and I wish them the best of luck.

Excellent! Super fresh.....you can definitely taste the difference. A bit pricey but worth it as the slices are twice the size of other restaurants. I had the tuna sashimi, spicy yellowtail roll and unagi....all delicious. The tuna was served with fresh wasabi...yes, freshly grated wasabi... wonderfully different! Excellent service in a contemporary environment. Outdoor seating too. You must try. I dont hand out 5-stars easily.

My boyfriend and I came here for dinner and had some of the best sushi we have ever tasted! We sat at the sushi bar and the chef walked us through the flavors of each thing that we ate. The highlights of our meal were the Squid nigiri, the Toro nigiri, and the Wagyu Beef on a hot stone. The squid was so fresh and tender. The Toro was melt in your mouth but also had a nice bite to it and the chef made one piece regular style and one cut up uni style. We loved that the chef gave us the option try both flavors and they were very unique to each other but equally as delicious. The service we received was incredible and we will be back over and over. I am so glad there is such a delicious sushi restaurant at the River.

2023-07-15 05:13:05Husband & I are in town from Yucca Valley for our anniversary. Hes a chef and we love sushi on a hot day. Fantastic food, great service, & nice place. The food was so well presented & you can tell they take a lot of pride in it. I highly recommend!

2023-05-15 05:25:15Sushi Kawa makes excellent sushi. Located on the edge of The River at Rancho Mirage Mall, this place is an easy drive from Palm Springs, Palm Desert, and anywhere in between. When we went, the rolls were excellent (everything tasted very fresh), and really the only complaint we had was the price. It was insanely expensive (some rolls were $30+) however, the presentation was excellent. You’re getting more than just a sushi roll for $30 - the rolls are massive and you even get some sides on the same plate. You will not need to order more than one, unless you’re super hungry. The sushi wasn’t the absolute best I’ve ever had, but I’m certainly not complaining. Taste-wise, I would go back because some of the things we got here were really good. As I said though, I just hope they do something about their prices!! That’s the one thing holding back this place (hence why there are 4 stars instead of 5). They lower those, and I would easily say this is one of the best sushi restaurants in the whole greater Palm Springs area!

Food portions were perfect and prices were friendly. The Toro was amazing! New favorite sushi spot in town! Lots of parking available. Easy to be seated.

2023-01-16 22:49:27Great place to dine! We came for our last night to enjoy a nice meal before we were going to leave, this place did not disappoint! When we walked in the place was about 80% full (it took us about 5 minutes to get seated). The staff were nice especially this one trainee waiter who was very polite and joyful (it made our experience 10x better!). We ordered a bunch of food, which was a little on the expensive side. The food was nicely cooked and had great presentation. The wagyu beef cooked in front of you. Although, you have to wait a bit before eating, we did not wait long enough, resulting in the beef being undercooked (this was our fault, they told us too wait for about 10 minutes). The food was delicious, we finished everything! If you want something tasty that looks amazing try this place!
